Floor's lower register just slays me. Her rendition of this exquisitely beautiful work by Tuomas is an emotional depth charge to the heart. I cannot get enough of it. And I understand the loss. Among my family, at 73 I am the last man standing. This music is deeply personal for me. Some will get it. Some will not. I do, and that is all that matters. Kiitos Nightwish.
For me as a Metalhead since 1985, listen to Nightwish since the Oceanborn Album Without the Anette Era and found back to them since Floor is the Singer, i missed the Metal guitar riffs from Empu in this, its a nice ballad, but the Spice is missing.
Nightwish is something special. There are other bands which make good music too, but they are unmatched when it comes to lyric, emotions - and of course Floor. She is simply magnificent. I'm so glad, that I live the same time where Nightwish exists. Can't even describe it...
Tuomas plays the keyboards, and Troy sang the last couple of lines. This is one of Tuomas' most brilliant songs...just amazing! It's one of the most beautiful songs that I have heard in "Decades!" My mother passed in November of 2023, and I know she would have loved it!
This is the perfect ending to Nightwish trilogy. So beautiful when all comes together. The circel of life is now complete. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
As others have said, the song is a beautiful ode to the parents that are no longer with us, but they were the lanternlights that guided us in the dark of our youth. The verse "I am you who climbed off of my back / Not long ago" reprises another Nightwish song, named "Our decades in the sun", which according to Tuomas himself is an ode to the band members' parents. The beginning of that song is "I climbed off your back / Not so long ago", so it's from the son point of view. In lanternlights the perspective is reversed, so it's the parent that sings the verses.
The projector sound is also the beginning of Yesterwinde. So the album starts with that and this is the last song so ending with that like the album is finished
That sound is the beginning and the end of the album. I know Tuomas says he doesn't make "concept albums", but for me the whole record works as a single symphonic composition, and every song is a different movement. The album makes more sense when you listen to it from start to finish, as a single piece of music.
Hopefully it will be a long time away, but we (my wife and I) have been thinking about what we find important around our funerals (just to ensure our children do not have the heavy lifting). I think I found a new funeral song 🙂
I hope so too! But definitely understand this sentiment and choice. And important to plan too, like you said to make it a bit easier for the children. Mourning and grief is hard enough already.
While hearing this song for the first time … my first thoughts are: I need a da… tissue, this is beautiful, i want this song played at my funeral … its even more perfect for this as Our decades in the sun …
Nice Saeed👍,It never was only metal With Nightwish as we all know, this is a focus on Tuomas as composer and Floor as vocalist and is showing their master craft to leave us in "shock and awe". What a beautifull song.🤘
Such a beautiful song! And many references to not only their previous albums but also to Auri and Altamullan Road songs (maybe even to Now We Are Free from the movie Gladiator). I think this song is like a love letter to those gone to the meadows before us and to those left behind. Lanternlight shines on the graves and represents the memories. In Finland there is this beloved poem that is often used in obituaries, and I feel like there might be a reference to that as well: the idea that those we love continue to surround us (in nature) after they are gone. Thank you for a nice reaction!
I have heard that Tuomas lost his father during the lockdown when he was composing the music for the new record. That was Troy singing the male parts. Time passes as do each of us.
I feel like this song is a ode to everyone who lost theier parrents!! Floor sings the sentence, i was the one who climbed of your back not long ago, same words used in the song Our decades in the sun, and that song is surely a ode to our parrents, that basicly why i say its about lost parrents, who became stardust.. Could be a song written by tuomas to hes father, who recently died.. I really love this song, this and a ocean of strange islands, are my 2 favorites from new album..
the piano and her voice really helps to set the mood for this song sounds like chopin or something like that awesome classical holy smokes with music from songs like this this album is going to fly off the shelves online or not
I think /heard that Tuomas wrote this as a tribute to his late father and Floor becomes as usual the song and deliver emotions that grab your soul .Greetings from nwAse Sweden
That one passage at 6:34 (your video) is Floor/Nightwish's little challenge to all the cover-artists. - a light mix, not bellowed but ushered forth as a connection to the end.
A very beautiful soft ballad. Very classical. Nightwish are just awesome and Tuomas a great writer/composer. This song is already one of my favorite NW-ballads. I recomment you other great ballads by nighwish: While your lips are still red Sleeping sun Harvest Hope you watch them too someday, Saeed.
Great reaction, thank you very much. The whole album in my opinion is a masterpiece, I love the mixture of heavy and soft but especially this beautiful song. On the album there are several duets of Floor and Troy I really like, also in this song. Tuomas played the piano but did not sing (he only did on the first NW album). In some parts the song reminds me of "The song of Amergin" (Ireland 8th century: "I am the wind that breathes to the sea. I am the wave on the ocean..." etc.) and there are references to former Nightwish songs.
Really love this song. Thanks for letting me know about Troy's singing. He sounds great in this. And definitely want to hear more duets with him and Floor.
Lovely reaction. Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is taping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy.
What a way to end a trilogy of Endless forms most beautiful, Human nature and finally Yesterwynde . Tuomas is a genius ruclips.net/video/yOlHiKmfI7E/видео.html. Plus you are right. To compose this is one thing but to have a band that brings it to life is another. I love the new album.
"Wind", as in watch, not weather :) According to Floor and Tuomas. Floor has said this one chokes her up so much, the band "rewound" for another take. Tuomas has recently laughed, that he doesn't sing, it might be Troy. Good observations, lots of "Easter Eggs"! Snow on your palm, [Within a snowflake on his palm, Storytime]. "Petrichor", a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather. The smell of freshly mown grass... Déjà vu! [Scent of fresh-mown grass in the morning sun, Last Ride of the Day] [Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden, Song of Myself] [Lay on a field of green, Endless Forms Most Beautiful] The old movies, memories. The oldest item "The Repair Shop" has repaired was an incredibly rare Lantern Clock from the 1600's, believed to have been made by renowned clockmaker Thomas Loome. Maybe Tuomas is a fan? Recently they restored a 35mm film projector, a real tall high-voltage monster; the tick, tick, tick noise at the end.

Most youngsters are not aware, yet.

"OH MY, BEAUTIFUL FLOOR"....Tuomas piano, Troy coming in with the vocals....Memories

Tuomas booked 2 weeks for Floors vocals , she finished everything in 6 days......he couldn't believe it .
And she did it 6 weeks after giving birth!
Love Floor's lower register. Floor's voice is just another instrument for Tuomas to use.
So good!
