Ironically I was a backup candidate, but I only found out 1-2 months later my last interview with them. Basically, the guy they actually hired took another job after accepting with the company. I thought they ghosted me and I told the recruiter I thought you guys didn’t even consider me and then he let me know the situation. Sufficed to say, I stayed with them for 10.5 yrs and it was great there.

I have been in a similar situation around 8-9 times (final round, HR keeps you warms but I knew something was not right when they could not give me an answer even after 7-10 days as they are working on confirming the other candidates / doing background checks). Never once did I get the role. OP was very lucky because from my experience it very rarely happens.

One will be provided as soon as a final decision has been reached. i want to ask if i would still be given the offer. or should i forget about the application and move on

Hello Ben, I have interviewed twice for this dream job and they had all the green flags indicating I'm the primary candidate. But they are taking more time than announced. I exchanged with the headhunter and he said that they really loved my interview but are having a hard time deciding between me and another candidate and are wishing to come to a conclusion within the week after an internal meeting. I offered to send in references if needed, no answer since then. What do you think of the situation ?
Ps : thanks for your video!!

Thanks for the video. Q: I exchanged a couple emails and calls with a recruiter 4 months ago. He was clearly overwhelmed and followed up 60 days later saying they wanted an advanced degree. I thanked him and moved on. He is emailing and calling again saying he changed the job description requirements.. any thoughts/experience? I have to wonder if the candidate they chose didn't work out and/or the company is a bit flaky.

This happened like 15 years ago. I was interviewing for a middle management role with this "Entrepreneurship" organization. Made me go through 6...YES 6 rounds. In the 4th round I made several mistakes and expected to be removed but surprisingly I moved ahead. I asked the HR and she told me there was only 1 other candidate that was "more favored" at this point so I still had a chance. It was only at the very end (of Round 6) when I got eliminated that the HR told me that the other candidate was way too good of a fit and got the role. Turned out they had 3 candidates only moving through the process and couldn't eliminate me from round 3 onwards. She said that they had wanted to eliminate me on round 4 but needed "choices" for senior management in future rounds. The hiring manager contacted me after HR did and I confronted her with what HR said. She admitted it and apologized. I later found out HR got scolded for saying things she should not have.

I so agree with everything that you mentioned. I was recently told by a recruiter that they are pausing my application for now (after 2 rounds of interview) and that they want to be in touch on a monthly basis to assess their hiring needs and my job search status. Is this common too and do they actually mean it?

This happened to me at my last job, I wasn’t their first choice but I guess I was “next on the list” in case something happened. at my last job, the interview went really well and it ended up being a casual conversation, however they hired someone with more experience. but then about a couple weeks later they contacted me and asked if I was still looking for work, which I was at the time. They said the person they hired before me only came for o couple days and didn’t show up after that (the person probably found something else and didn’t give notice) and they offered me the job. Although, I’d rather be a company’s first choice, I still needed a job so I accepted it.

How about you interviewed & and I thought it went well & even got a reply to a thank you letter & then 1 week later... instead of an offer you get a phone call from the recruiter saying you are still in contention but due to the heavy competition of this role, expect an answer from us next week ? Is that a good or bad sign ?

    Hi Ben,
1 stage interview went very well(Friday) (walk around the factory and introduced to general manager and other office staff) on the end on the interview hiring manager asked for availability for early next week and said will contact me Friday by 8pm or Monday morning. I send follow up email straight after the interview and provided my availability. On Monday afternoon time i received an email saying" Hope you are well; it was great to meet you and happy to hear you enjoyed coming to our site.
There may be a slight delay in the second interview, but I would like you to come in for it. What is your availability end of next week please?" So basically the 2 stage is delay for almost 1.5 week. Then i received another email "I will check for you internally and come back to you asap to get this scheduled" does it look like I'm backup candidate?

Interviewed again last week: same council different position. the interview had to end to be in time for the next person's timeslot (which i know is true) but they gave me an email to send remaining questions to. I sent that email, that got no response, that email address is the main hr email address too. Also been 9 days and havent heard about my application at all. Any idea whats going on? First of all, I love your name, had me cracking up. And thank you for the kind words! As far as the company, it sounds to me like they are a bit of a mess with their process. Proper scheduling would have helped with the timing issues, having people fill out their answers isn’t a hiring best practice and then finally, 9 days with no response is irresponsible and a bit rude. How many open roles are there? Is it just the two? How did the interview go also from your perspective?

@@BenTalksTalent thanks very much about the name im glad you like it ^^ Its the county council not a company, so i expected they'd be more respectable. One of the interviewers was the same from the first interview so it was easy for me to tell the difference in how it was going, I thought they were very keen throughout almost helping me answer the questions. After the first (failed) interview I emailed for feedback to help with this second interview, I said how disappointed I was etc- A part of me hopes they're trying to make me think i failed again, to disappoint me again so Im for sure to take the incoming offer, but this is wishful thinking. That email afterwards that I mentioned were my own questions for them, that we ran out of time for. They maybe didnt like my questions, who knows, but im for sure less keen on the position after this. if you have any more ideas what could be happening id love to know
