  • One of my goals when making quilts is to use up scraps. The goal with this quilt was to use up the scraps from my two previous navy blue necktie quilts. It is my first triangle necktie quilt using English paper piecing techniques. I make these quilts without glue to avoid creating the plastic trash associated with glue.
If you are new to making quilts from upcycled neckties, I teach how to prepare the neckties in a previous video - • Recycle Neckties into ... - this is one of my most popular videos.
Also, check out my second necktie quilt video at • Upcycled Neckties Quil... .
I would love to hear your experiences upcycling ties into quilts and hopefully this inspires you to use up the scraps.
The triangles are 3 inch equilateral triangles - I just found a page on Google and printed it with the correct enlargement to get the size of triangle I wanted.

Thank you for asking! At some point I should do a tour of my sewing space because I love watching those types of videos. I guess I feel like it's not "pretty" enough compared to the videos I watch. All the containers are made from recycled materials. But maybe that's appealing to people like me! :) We'll see - maybe that will be a future video. Thanks for suggesting it!

I am sooooo tempted to try paper piecing, and I do have a stash of ties! Between you and the Shannon Makes channel that I also watch, you have both created beautiful things! Thank you for sharing!

Kay! Thank you so much for mentioning Shannon Makes! I was not familiar with her channel and you have now unlocked many hours of wonderful videos that I will enjoy. Thank you so much! And I look forward to seeing what you make (could be something small to start?)

@@kayfleskes I started watching Shannon Makes and I figured out that a) she appears to be Canadian like me and b) she just moved to Nova Scotia where I am from originally. So gosh - no wonder you like both of these channels! :)

LOL! That had not even crossed my mind! I generally like to watch videos where people are sharing their stories about making and renovating.

When did you pull out your templates

Good question! I pulled them out once all three sides of a triangle were attached to another triangle. Once all the triangles were attached to each other, I removed all the papers for the triangles along the edges. :)
