COMPARISON: Wolverine Vs. Red Wing, Who Wins? stridewise.com/red-wing-vs-wo...
In which I take a hard look at the beloved icon of Americana, the 1000 Mile boot.
The 1000 Mile has been a staple in workboots since its debut in the 1910s, back when it was made of horsehide. Today it's made from a rich, full grain, Chromexcel® leather, though they're not fancy - these boots don't have unnecessary moc toes or cap toes, there's no lining, they're really just workhorses. The 1000 Mile is here to get the job done.
It's not a perfect boot, though. When compared to other boots at this price point there are a few quality control issues, the sole slips a lot, and there are a few other problems that I mention in the video.
So is it worth the cash? Keep watching and read my full review: www.stridewise.com/wolverine-...

I own a pair and you pretty much nailed the review. Although I would add that these boots are not designed for winter/rainy conditions
Yeah, that's for sure!
I LOVE YOUR BOOTS..and your boot videos !!
That means so much! Thank you for stopping by, I really appreciate your support. Any requests?
Great content,looking forward for more.Subscribed.
Thanks a ton! Got the Alden Indy coming up tonight :)
Thanks for the review. What are in your opinion a great option of boots for a smarter environment but that are also able to protect you from snow and rain? I don’t seem to find that combo in a boot
I have the "1940" version of this boot in CF Stead waxed suede. The break-in period was almost nothing and it is probably my favorite boot right now. I love my 8111 Iron Rangers and Thursday Captains, but this boot beats them for comfort. I like the leather sole as being in the dry southwest negates the drawbacks of a leather sole in wet/snow conditions. It feels great when walking and I have not seen any excessive wear. The Butyl-treated leather sole seems very durable.
I just bought these boots and have been wearing them for a few days. These are my first pair of leather boots. Can you give me advice on how often I should clean and condition them? Also do you polish these boots? What do you do to make the leather shiny like in the video or is that just good lighting lol
I wear my 1Ks in a business casual environment all the time. Khakis and Polo shirt, with my 1000 Mile boots, or Iron Rangers.
As far as the leather sole goes, that is only available on the “Original” models. There are other models with Vibram rubber half soles and heel stacks.
I have several pairs of 1000 miles boots and have been mulling over what I think them for a while. I have: classic/basic; Courtland (moc toe/w rubber sole layer over leather); Montague (Chelsea and also w rubber later over leather outsole). Also have a Kilometer boot-cheaper version of 1K with all synthetic outsole and non-Chromexcel leather. I’ve waffled back and forth numerous times on my conclusion about 1K boots and go through phases of wearing them and ignoring them.
[ QC/CONSTRUCTION ] - Quality control is not great as you point out-loose threads and more importantly leather selection results in some serious wrinkling in one boot. Both boots wrinkling the same way doesn’t bother me, but left and right boots wrinkling differently offends my sense of symmetry. The Montague’s have a synthetic insole that diminishes them a bit in my view for a professed classically built boots. I haven’t worn these boots in the rain (except Kilometer boots), and I think it’s probably not reasonable to expect (compare) wet weather performance; and I realize in the “old days” that’s what people wore in the rain.
[ FIT ] The fit is consistently 1/2 size down from my brannock size, same adjustment as I do for Red Wing Last No. 8. The basic 1K’s are in black and have a lot of use; and they’re weathering nicely. [ COMFORT ] One complaint is that the heel area is not shaping into a heel cup (which helps me a great deal with comfort). And the shank (I think fiberglass shank) is a bit thick and raises the heel area bit-not a deal killer, but I don’t have that issue with other classically built boots. The leather breaks in easily of course, as one would expect with Chromexcel. For comfort my biggest complaint is the heel cup. When it gets time to resole, I’ll make sure to ask cork gets placed in the heal area and that the inside of the heel is cupped rather than flat to allow room to shape. Also, I’ll replace the shank with a metal one for the thinner shape (not necessarily for strength).
[ WEAR ] The single leather sole provides a thin profile-if that’s what you’re seeking- but it also means you feel the ground through it and the outsole deforms quite a bit around the edges. I’ve seen a couple resole jobs with a double sole and I like it but it does change the aesthetic quite a bit. I think adding a thin sole protector is a good option for durability, traction, but the edges will still deform easily. Some have said it looks too bulky, but my perception is that the toe box is much narrower and slimmer than a Red Wing No. 8 and it looks like an old school dress shoe/boot (especially with its thin outsole). I do wear them with dress clothes.
[ CONCLUSION ] It’s overpriced for what you get, but I don’t know what might fit in its space. Other similar choices are either too “work boot” with a prominent toe box or too “fashiony” with a pointy toe (you might have discerned that I don’t like pointy toes). I like the in-between shape of the the 1K’s that makes them adaptable to a wide range of wear. And they are just easy to wear. If they were easier to obtain, I think a Beckman flat box boots would be my choice over these for similar use/purpose-but those are like unicorns and not a fair comparison. Of the 1K’s, the Courtlands are my favorite for aesthetic and practical reasons. The rubber outsole overlay is really useful (similar to Evans I think). By the way, I think I mentioned in another post that I think the Kilometer boots are the value champ. You don’t get the chromexcel (still good leather), but you get a well built boot with the same shape, and a synthetic outsole that can handle foul weather. I didn’t talk about the Montague’s much. They’re a very different boot, but I wear them quite a bit. The leather is not chromexel (don’t know what kind) and ages distinctively.
What boot would you say offers the same amount of ruggedness but better function?
Not sure what my leather is but it took for ever to break them in. Though I've taken them on many hikes that were hours long through mud and shallow water. Plus I've had to run in them a bit on time constraints. So far they have no problems despite my abusing them.
I've noticed after several mink paste applications the "crinkles" smooth out a bit. I did however have to do a full vibram resole at the 13 month mark.
Yeah I want to experiment with removing those wrinkles. I've heard people say you can iron them out if you put a towel between the boot and the iron. Seems risky though!
Hi great review!! I enjoy all your reviews very thorough and you do a good job of responding to questions. I was just surprised that you said that these don’t work well with Chinos/Cotton pants and a button down I believe? I think these are perfect for exactly this. A button down? You mean like a flannel shirt? These work well with just about everything. I was thinking even dressier very tempting tho to push it there. So if not with the clothing articles you mentioned what do you think works well with these boots? Thank you.
You said can’t t wear these with Khaki and button down...
Yeah thanks man, I meant like khakis and a button down, a business casual sort of outfit. I think they're too informal for that. Chinos and flannel they can work!
Stridewise
I see now thank you for that clarification. Keep up the excellent reviews we all enjoy them!
I agree with you in terms of the boot not being "too outdoor" or "too indoor", It's right in the middle. Some will call it basic, to me it's timeless.
It is, isn't it. I plan to refilm this review, I just got the boots out of storage
I own 2 pairs and love them. I also like leather soles. These boots are not necessarily for heavy out door use. They are advertised as so comfortable, you could walk 1000 miles. Leather sole slip on certain surfaces and you have to ruff up the soles a bit before they hold slick floors. I have no complaints at all. As far as the thread that you found that should have been snipped..that is what they make scissors for. I take care of everything i own and don't abuse anything. These boots are made to last but i don't know how well they will hold up with someone that doesn't take care of them. Boots and shoes have to be maintained by brushing, polishing, and if they get wet..just like any other boot or shoe, should be dried properly. I was in the Army back in the early 60's and these are very similar to the boots that were issued to us. The only difference is that the military boots were higher.
Great comment, Steve! The leather soles have grown on me, they get grippier after a while and they are indeed comfy with good groundfeel. Different strokes!
Agreed, I have worked for EVERY penny I have ever made with nothing given to me but a hard time so I chose to wear Redwing at 18 years old in shipbuilding on concrete and steel because I could! I now have been a teacher for that same industry with same company 32 years total and now I’m 50 years old and have worn my Wolverine 1000 mile ankle boots 10.5D (brown) and 1000 mile Oxblood Loafer 10.5D (red) for the last 14 years in my Sheet Metal shop because they are “SEXY” with LEATHER soles made by a F’N cobbler and that’s a dying breed so I wear 1000 Mile Wolverine’s in my classroom because I can! $400 is a drop in the bucket when you spend your entire life 40+ hours a week on your feet and some days I get “Real” Frisky” and wear my Lucchase “Full Quill” Ostrich (Cognac) and EVERYBODY can talk or be jealous; Who gives a shit after the years I’ve put in!#”EverbodyCrazyaboutaSharpDressedMan’sFootwear!”#Wolverine1000Mileboots/loafers10.5D#Redwing(black)Engineer/1155Nailseat11”boot10.5D#BootLUST/ENVY@archtopp1
I wear size 11 Indy boots, 11 OSB, 11 in docs and 10.5 in 1k so they run just a bit big for me. Super comfortable though. I have 3 pair of CXL boots and I treat with neatsfoot oil. I don’t put Venetian on anymore because I don’t like the waxy feel. It’s not much wax, but it’s there. The neatsfoot keeps it soft and flexible. Also, let’s be honest... we’re not doing actual physical labor with these boots. Maybe in my shop walking around, but not outside pouring concrete and shit.
Yeah I'm an 11.5 in Indy and 11 in 1k and Red Wing. CXL is treated with neatsfoot before leaving the factory so I can see using it on your boots as a go-to conditioner, though I usually just use Venetian shoe cream on almost everything for simplicity's sake.
Does it fit like Red Wing's Iron Ranger?
Own a freight delivery shipping business. Don't need steel toe but I'm in some pretty nasty gravel junk yards, old warehouses etc.. Would the 1000's be okay if I were to use them for this? Would need them to do double duty (work/business at day - Dinner with Wife at night) as I do with my Iron Rangers.
I'm considering the 1000 mile Evans boot. They have added vibram to the front of the sole as well as the heel. Apparently they listened to folks like you. I never thought I would spend $250 on a pair of shoes/boots but when $100 ones fall apart in 9 months $250 suddenly looks like a reasonable price for footward that will last for years. ;)
Yeah that one seems like a better bet! Still not sold on their leather selection but hopefully you get a good pair :)
I have the Evans boot and it is excellent.
How do they breathe for your foot??
Nick- You've got to start using shoe trees in your boots! Most of the boots in your videos look 30 years old. I have most of the boots you've reviewed (RW, Alden, Wolverine) and although mine are at least 10 years older than yours they still look relatively new.
Haha I promise I do now. When I got these Wolverines they creased up in the first week though, it wasn't a lack of shoe trees I swear! But now they're all sitting in cedar, Jeff, take my word :)
Nick, forgot to thank you for your reviews. They're really terrific. I learned about shoe trees long ago..and glad I did. They are really good for your shoes/boots.. These however are a little over the top...Cool...but overkill :- www.redwingheritage.com/us/USD/product/care/boot-storage/cedar-boot-tree-95062?gclid=CjwKCAjwrNjcBRA3EiwAIIOvq7E_ivULuxvAY-eufdlhcsOjTV-n-WSQ_O5gskDwV2uOsFS5YqyB4xoCxcIQAvD_BwE
@@jeffroberts9536 Yeah, they are a nice concept, but for $80 each is way steep, when you can get a good pair for of trees for $20. But if you want your boots to last you need to polish them, and use trees.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Stridwise, you really need to use shoetrees, all the time. Especially if the soles are all leather.
1883, huh? Coincidence that Luchesse claims their origin to be that year, as well?
Hey, quick question here, do you mean order half a size down/ one size down from your normaly boots size or form your sneakers size? I want to buy those and i am wearing 9,5 on sekakers. I am thinking to order 8,5 on wolverines. Whats your thought?
I ordered a half size down.
I just ordered a pair of 10000 Mile boots off EBay. They were $100 after shipping and come with Wolverine 1000 Mile lug soles.
If they had leather soles I would have passed, but the lug soles should be good on concrete, even with wet surfaces.
How does the leather sole hold up on these? What are the pros for a leather sole compared to rubber? I like the idea of a leather sole but something tells me the sole is done within a year or so, while rubber lasts forever sometimes.
Leather soles are softer, have better groundfeel/feedback, conform to the foot a bit better. You'll get a few years out of them and the grip does improve over time, but they're always ugly and they suck up water and dirt.
What did you personally use to condition these?
I'm sorry to say I had just sent these to the cobbler because I'd gotten a stain on them so I'm not 100 percent sure what he used. I should have known that, I know. If you like the shine I think Saphir's Renovateur will do the trick.
After watching this Redwing is an easy choice.
is the black version of this one also made of chromexcel or only these brown version?
All are Chromexcel.
You mentioned that boots normally come in B, C, D etc. I have yet to find a boot that offers C width. Do you know of one? I have a narrow foot, and Thursdays is about the only boot that comes naturally narrow.
Alden does! Whites/Dayton do as well. These are pricier brands though. Whites and Dayton will custom make boots to your foot though, I got a discount code on my Dayton vid if you want
allen edmonds
Doesn't look like they are a 360 degrees goodyear welt. They look like they are not stitched around the heel. Ohh you mentioned that ;.)
I might be wrong but is the leather made from Bison or is that just from 2021 and forward?
No, this is Chromexcel, the standard cow leather. Wolverine has a million versions of this boot though and their line has included bison.
I purchased the 10.5D and it is what I have worn since 18 years old and now I’m 50! I have the Brown Wolverine 1000 mile ankle boots and the ox blood red 1000 mike oxfords and have worn them both for last 10 years being a teacher in industry. I am a diehard Redwing boot for steel / concrete NOTHING better! I’m being very truthful about both! 1000 Mile is my high end teaching boot, best looking and Redwing is the most Durable blood, sweat, & tears work boot! I LOVE all “3”!#Wolverine1000Mile#RedwingEngineer(black)/1155NailSeat11”Boot(brown)#StartedwearingRedwingbootsat18,now32yearsofbootswear
These are sick
Reminds me 20's style clothing
Yeah especially with the leather sole, it's got a real old timey look
Im trying to find the chromexcel on the wolverine website, is it under a different name or is chromexcel material the stock 1000 mile boot?
Yep that's the stock, standard model!
@@Stridewise thanks
How about an updated review of these now that you're so much more experienced with boots?
YES i actually took them out of storage to do just that, i think i water damaged these boots though by not using shoe trees after the rain and I want to get a fresh pair, and then i'd need a bunch of time to break THOSE in, and so on and so on
I’m debating getting a pair, but it bothers me that they don’t have a shank…is this a problem for anyone? Does it matter for these boots?
These do have a steel shank mate, honestly though...these are about $80 to $100 overpriced. I have these and multiple red wing heritage boots (which these are most often compared to) and i can tell you without a doubt that these are inferior in build quality and finishing. They actually use a leather board insole whereas red wing heritage boots use a thick piece of veg tan. If I were you..I’d purchase the Blacksmith from rw. There are really good brands that offer similar boots but at better prices or similar prices but with better quality. Parkhurst is probably the most notable. If you’re looking to spend a little more $ then try Nick’s falcon boots. 🍻
I have a pair of the Wolverine 1,000 mile boots and I agree they're not comfortable, and the leather sole wears quickly and has no traction. Also, the eyelets are rough / sharp on the inside of the boot and tear up the tongue. You can custom order a different sole but for $400 IMO there are better options.
Glad you agree, Matt! Comparing these with Thursday boots soon, keep an eye out!
Stridewise - thank you for your response. I look forward to the comparison. You have the best boot reviews on RUclips. Most reviewers only give first impressions whereas you have worn your boots for a while before you review them which is really helpful.
So glad you think so! Thanks a bunch man.
I saw a video of someone wearing 1000 mile boots with a suit....thought they worked well. (I suppose it might work well on a case by case basis??)
I've never seen anyone pull them off with a suit haha I'm sorry. Just a personal opinion I guess, but one that a lot of people share.
Are these the Cordovan color?
Nope, just regular brown. I had stained a little part of the toe by using the wrong conditioner so I gave them to a cobbler and had just gotten them back, that's why they look a little more shiny than usual.
Hi, why do some comment that the heels on these boots need extra nails through them? Thank you
I guess because they can separate. Mine didn't, but it happens with a lot of boots at this price point. I don't think you'd need to until it starts happening, if it does.
Stridewise
Thank you for answering my question. Appreciate your time and feedback.
Question for Stridewise: Why would you buy and review a leather soled boot?, ifyou know all leather soles scratch and offer very poor slip resistance, and most importantly, Wolverine offers the same model boot with a Vibram lug sole.
Because this is the most popular Wolverine boot and one of the most popular boots in America, so people want to know the pros and cons of it!
How high is the heel of the Wolverine?
About an inch!
Where can I find this in New York ?
www.wolverine.com/US/en/stores?dwcont=C73128387&sma=sm.000sqwbj3184scozth51yzjyaui2k Take a look!
Spot on review. Great leather, but that sole could be better. I have owned these and found they really stretched out over time making my initial good fit a bit too roomy. That leather comes from the Horween tannery in Chicago... excellent leather. I believe there is a Horween Cordovan version of these boots.
Still haven't managed to pull the trigger on cordovan boots, maybe 1Ks in Cordovan should be it! Glad you enjoyed the video my friend.
What's your opinion about the leather used on these compared to Higgins Mill and do you think these are comfortable compared to the AE? I stayed away from these as these seemed quite bulky, but looks sleak on you, probably because you are a big guy. Once again good review and you need more subs.
Thanks a ton, Nikhil! (Is it Nikhil? I've got a buddy called Nikhil.)
Yeah the funny thing is that both boots are Chromexcel but they still feel different, AE's leather feels a bit thinner and it also fits a bit better, it's got leather lining and feels more snug on the foot, whereas there's no lining on the 1000 Mile.
I totally agree the Wolverine is bulkier than the AE so it depends on what you're after, but personally I preferred the AE. Fit better, look better, grip better. The Wolverines look a little more broad and outdoorsy though, which is an aesthetic a lot of people want from their boot, so it's a preference thing.
Thanks man and yes my name is Nikhil.
Put some rubber taps on them where they don't grip
Good advice! The good thing about Goodyear welts especially is it's easy to customize your shoes.
Just add a Commando-soul to em
You need shoe trees
Haha I do need to get better at that but these really aren't that old, I just think they crease easy. I also had recently sprained an ankle, which I think is why one of the boots was a little more wrinkled.
Yep. I use shoe trees and 1000 mile boots crease on the vamp. The leather is really soft and it's just the way that they break in.
The thing is not all Chromexcel does this, I think Wolverine is just not great at leather selection.
@@Stridewise the higgins mill boot creases on the vamp as well. but I think it looks fine. they are really not dress boots even though you can wear them with a suit in the right circumstances. but I think the higgins mill boot creases in a better way. maybe i just haven't worn them as much as your wolverines.
+1. Hundreds spent on boots, add $20 for trees. I’ve had a pair of courtland for years and mine look nothing like yours.
Has anyone had negative effects from mink oil i like how it water proofs and shines ? But read its bad
I used to think mink oil and Obenauf's were the be all and end all of leather conditioning, but I think Venetian shoe cream is usually a good bet if you want to keep the leather healthy without darkening it too much.
Can def be worn biz casual. I have to disagree there. Great videos
Thanks man! We can disagree and still be bros 👊
Did you like these more than allen higgins or this more?
MetalsForBrunch I like Higgins mill better
@@Stridewise The higgins mill is more refined and the redwings are robust and pretty sleek for hardcore working boots. I just picked up the iron rangers 8111 today 20% off my higgins mill coming in the mail today. 😁
These boots would need a treaded sole for me to take them seriously.
Yeah they've got a boot called the Evans which might be up your alley amzn.to/2Ec1vX7
So many 1000 miles version yet none in wider widths. Sad 😭
I don't see how they can sell these boots with such a crappy slippery sole for this price. Thanks for saving me 400 bucks bro
Second time I wore these on a rainy day, the sole started to separate. Slippage is a big problem in winter too. I would even go as far to say they are unusable in winter if your city ever gets rain, snow, ice or salty sidewalks.
Dreadful! Sorry to hear it. Leather soles were a risky pick for Wolverine!
@@Stridewise That’s probably why they offer a half sole version. It’s interesting to buy the leather sole version then complain about traits inherent to leather soles…when there is a half-sole version a click away.
Some people really love leather soles, some people don’t. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm leery of leather souls. Took a bad fall in an icy parking lot.
I 100% agree you have reason for your concern Guy, haha. Only certain situations are good for leather soles.
What boot do you recommend for a suit?! (Other than RM Williams)
Usually something calfskin, I liked the Frye Jones Lace Up for like a blue suit: ruclips.net/video/zjyCbPgy6Io/видео.html
Ditto the Astoria Boot from To Boot New York: ruclips.net/video/GNn1KDdqOxA/видео.html
Why in the world would you wear a RM williams with a suit? They are chelsea boots, they belong with some casual wear, or on the ranch herding horses.
Yeah I never recommended RM Williams for a suit, which is something I'm copping flack for from Australians in the comments ruclips.net/video/j1gIRoxV7kM/видео.html
Zhemin Lin 1 in 2 people at my office (suit attire) wear RM's and I agree with your assessment!
Bro you gotta tone it down with the hands, outta control. Maybe try holding onto something like a pen or even the product itself, less likely to be throwing your arms/hands around so much. Anyway, thanks for the review.
I'm happy with my hands but thanks man
Actually I like the leather sole and it is durable
Yea I go back and forth on leather soles.
I don't think I would call any leather soled shoes heavy duty work boots. If I wore something with a leather sole for work they would be worn out and trash in a months time, maybe they were rugged back before we had rubber soled boots but now these are just a fashion statement.
That's a good way to put it. Actual work boots today are totally different, these are more worn because they're iconic.
@@Stridewise I would love to be able to wear something that looked that smooth and classic every day though.
I prefer Thursdays and Red Wings to Wolverines.
Yeah I feel like more than anything Wolverines are just a bit boring haha
People saying you ruined your boots by not using trees don't know what they're talking about. One of your boots simply has loose grained leather. It's a natural defect and not caused by improper care.
I feel like for a great boot, its should be difficult at all to maintain. There should be a standard with very little slight deviation from it. Like ar15s and mil spec.
Hey man shall I get the one with extra soul.
Yeah!
Get some shoetrees for those Wolverines.
Get some shoe trees!
1000 miles? Nah... maybe 400 miles 😀
An Aussie in NY?
Yup! Been here for a long time, it's why my accent is kinda mangled haha
Stridewise Still got the twang though 😊. Love the reviews, mate!
Yep, definitely a touch of American in there! Really glad you like the reviews :)
Cool review but that boot has a lot of loose grain
You're right, I should have emphasized that more. The boots aged more quickly than I would have liked.
No, no they are not. Had two pairs fail on me in one year. One of them had the heal fall off. The sole actually wore through on the other
Yeah leather soles have a lot of downsides. You might want to check out my vids comparing this boot with Red Wing and Thursday!
This is 2018, there are better options than leather soles for weather wear. All my years of cowboying of course was with leather boots but we always wore overshoes in wet/snowy weather.
Great point. It's not like you have to pick between a flat leather/cork sole and a Commando sole anymore!
Lifestyle boot
I swiped a pair of these from a woman that wasn't really aware of what they were...other than that they said 'Wolverine' on the upper. Barely used and took a flyer on the size available (I wear a 12/12.5 tennis shoes and these were and 11.5). Fit perfectly. As far as I'm personally concerned I've yet to see a review video by someone who really WEARS these style of boots. It's on you and I'm not knocking a lifestyle if all you put them through is streetwalking in NYC, but growing up watching Indiana Jones, I was looking for an...adventure boot that didn't weigh 10 lbs (like most outdoor oriented models from every company). Backpacked in Maine for 2 weeks on them and although the leather soles are a bit unorthodox, at least for a guy who spends most of his time in composite toe/steel toe work boots, they wear in quite well and with them potentially lasting 3+ decades with care and cobbler work they are the best boots I own. They look both presentable (after a quick clean) as well as functional. I'm not the guy who polishes boots like a few hundred push ups were on the line, and will never be. That being said it's awfully easy to "dress" these up with casual wear. Leave the boots upwards of $500+ to the yuppies in cubicles and fad company CEOs trying to impress diggers at home. The 1000 mile, Iron Rangers & Chippewa 6" service boot are for us regulars.
Haha I mean I'd think by the appearance of the shoe it's clear I've been beating these up quite a bit, I completely submerged them more than once during a storm here. But no, I didn't take them to the Peruvian jungle or anything :) I'm glad you liked yours though! The QC issues vary for everyone so looks like you got lucky. They have another boot called the Evans with a grippier sole that might be an option if you want something grippier. I agree these are more versatile than Iron Rangers, that's a nice aspect. Thanks for the comment, Spencer!
In England redwings are 100 dearer than wolverines
Thanks for the info . Nope. On these for me.
You comment about the boots creasing excessively... That’s on you.. buy some cedar boot trees! These are expensive boots..they deserve better care...
Naw this happened in like two weeks, it was the boot's fault
Stridewise It doesn’t take long - seriously, next time start out with daily use of boot trees. I guarantee you’ll see immediate improvement...
Never buying wolverine again. My wolverines were great the first two months but now hurt to wear them. I own red wings and aldens so I know a good pair of boots.
I agree. I know Chromexcel doesn't always wrinkle like this, I guess I just got a bad batch of leather, but that would mean Wolverine has bad leather selection and/or quality control. I've got a comparison of Wolverine and Red Wing coming out in a couple of weeks, keep an eye out!
I was hoping wolverine would be a good boot. I imagine different feet impact the way a certain boot forms as its broken in over time.
@R. M I own a good amount of boots. Red wings, aldens. I've owned two pairs of wolverine boots and both pairs have been terrible.
They age weird. They crease a lot! I guess that's the downside of chrome tan leather :(
A lot of chrome tan leather is great and even Chromexcel is great on higher end brands with better leather selection. You're just better off with a pricy boot if you're going to use Chromexcel I think, like Viberg or Alden. Or get veg tan boots :)
love the sole.
They look so rich. To me, they are the perfect looking boot. Too bad they are so expensive and seem to be made out of poor quality.
Yeah if you want a chromexcel boot with a toe that looks like that that isn't too expensive, I don't know maybe Oak Street or Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill or Grant Stone Diesel or something, they're all a bit more narrow in the toebox though
The outer sole is too thin. Really silly.
It is very thin. It gives nice 'groundfeel' though, which some people like.
Interesting accent. It's like American but has a non-rhotic British feel.
It's Australian but I spent 7 years in America and 2 years in China, so it's all over the place
I just got my Nick's. I'll never buy cheap boots again.
I used to like them and wanted them for so long but now I realize they look too bulky, rather have the Higgins
That's funny I'm the same way, when I first got into boots I thought they looked great and now i think they're too bulky/bulbous.
you guys should try high heels.
@@matthewwilliams9610 not a manlet so
my bad, your comment sounded like a bitch
Your review has convinced me not to buy. Thanks for saving my $.
Sorry to let you down, Brandon! They're honestly fine boots just the leather selection isn't great and the leather sole is meh. Better options out there.
Stridewise yea I need a all day everyday comfortable boot. Currently working in a new pair of RW just getting to the all day point. Thanks for the review.
Which Red Wings did you get?
Stridewise #8849 black prairie leather.
Oh nice, I have the 8890s - very similar looking!
Lots of loose grain on that pair.
Hells yes.
Mink oil. No.
100 miles at most, the sole looks weak
You can't wear it with a suit? Challenge accepted
Out of all these boots it looks like for the money that Thursdays boots for $200 are the best .
I'd NEVER buy a pair of boots with a leather sole
All of these boot reviews are done by guys who don't do any work.
It's almost like anyone can wear footwear, but here are a bunch of reviews by a sheet welder if you like: stridewise.com/category/work-boots
You fucked up your boots man. Use shoe trees so they hold the shape and don't wear them everyday - One day work, one day rest. They are originally made for work, but now you have much better soles ect. for hiking/working boots, so why not take care of your casual dress boots?
This needed a video? Lol
Kinda look like shit, no?
Review Wolverine 1000 mile Evans.(Bought new.)
After i have cut open that piece of shit boot.....
1. Boots stink like they have been worn for 5 years.Really stink like stinky feet.Without exaggeration.
2.Boots in the middle sole squeek.
3.Boots have thin leather insole, under little foam AND real insole under is 3-4mm thick dark color compressed PAPER !
Under is steal shank, than white compressed PAPER and little cork.
NOT LEATHER.........PAPER is inside.
4.Left boot tongue is higher than right one and is sawn wrong, not vertical.
I am not shure, maybe i have fake boots.
But they are piece of stinky, squeeky shit and i have torn them appart and true them in garbage.
If you wear these you're a clown
You need shoe trees
that was true when that was released, yes
