These are one of the first pairs that got me interested in heritage boots. The hard part with these is, with all the different versions available, deciding which one to actually purchase
I have been wearing boots for decades. I have owned a lot of boots. 1000 Mile Boots are one of my favorites. Durable. Comfortable. Don't pay full price. Wait for a sale. Use a coupon. These are not steel toe boots for construction jobsites. They are tough enough for anything that does not require a safety toe .
I have 6 pair of 1000 Mile, ( 6000 miles?) including the pair you reviewed. They are great just to throw on and are they light and breathable with the leather soles, I wear in business casual or with selvedge jeans. Most RUclipsrs hold the leather soles against them but Wolverine offer 3 more optional soles which is 3 more than the Iron Rangers. Enjoyed your fair, detailed reviews and keep it up
This is really informative, thank you! I just ordered this exact pair for a song on eBay. My favorite boots are the RW Beckman 9011, and I got these because they're very similar. I have 3 pairs, but they're discontinued now so I wanted to expand my horizons.
As always, great review Teik, very informative and useful insights. I have a pair of black Wolverine 1000 mile original boots, and I think mine are not Chromexcel eventhough the website says "Premium leather from Chicago’s famed Horween Leather Company". The leather is supple and the boots didn't require any break in period. By the way, when you get them new, the unboxing is quite an experience! The box is beautiful and they come with a black cloth that reminded me of the Grant Stone unboxing 😊. BTW... You have to share with us how you get such great deals on Ebay!! Impressive 💪
Great review. This is the first video I've seen of you and your vernacular describing the parts of the boots, pace, everything, was really well executed. Thanks!
I have bought two of these boots, my first pair were purchased second hand, which are still going strong but will need to be re-soled in the future, I find as I have gotten older into my late 20s, I have refined my style into something classier. I have always loved the look of these boots. Thank you again for the review! This was really informative and gave me a lot more to think about.
I have these same exact boots. Same color too. I love them! I guess I got lucky in the leather selection because mine haven't developed the loose grain heavy creasing I've seen others have. I had very little experience with leather soles and I do worry a bit on their durability, but I'm not hard on my boots. Mainly urban/office environments for me. And I find the leather soles are more comfortable than the hard Vibram soles on my Red Wing Blacksmith boots.
I have these. They were super comfortable out of the box and look fantastic. One of mine has the same odd creasing across one of the vamps, but I've learned to live with it. The other problem I've had is the speed hooks aggressively scratch the tongue. Mink oil redarkened the leather, and I've been assured by Wolverine customer service that it's not a destructive process. I liked them so much I also got a cap toe pair.
My friend has given me several pairs of his boots to sell after breaking his ankle and there's a pair of these amongst them, apparently his favourite boot's, well worn with a great patina. Still extremely sturdy and certainly seems to be well built, I'd have kept them for myself if they'd been a 9 UK, I'm certainly impressed with them.
Thanks for the review. I sold my 1000 mile boots because of the loose grain creasing. Specially for the price. The leather smell on this boots is addictive and the color is beautiful.
Fantastic Teik!!!! Loved your explanation of the 270 welt lending itself to a more dressy look, it definitely does!!! As far as that topy goes, you can have a cobbler remove that and you can experience the magical flex of that leather sole all over again!
From all of the cobbler videos that I have seen, 1000 mile boots have a plastic or fiber glass composite shank. As a matter of fact, I have never seen a 1000 mile boot that didn't have a shank.
I guarantee that the creasing you’re seeing is just heavy grain break. It’s not I deal for sure and can be ugly, but it’s not loose grain. It’ll feel like big bubbles that have been deflated
I HAVE A QUESTION 🙋 I’ve been watching u and many other channels for months On a redwing iron ranger U see the threads sowed threw the rubber out sole good year welt As u walk the stitches on out sole get warn and disappear Once that happens is out sole only be held together with glue Is the thread still holding or is it gone can some one explain I’m brain can not understand stand wats going on Because if the thread is gone Then wat was point of good year welt
Recently found some Rag & Bones boots that are said to be made by Wolverine. They are VERY similiar to a 1K Mile moc toe. And surprisingly leather-lined. Great review once again, give thanks.
A great work boot I wear them 12 to 14 hours a day in the construction field as long as the iron rangers just great boots to have ya make them sound fancy but in other people eyes maybe but just plain work boots
Thanks, as always, very informative ! I'm not sure I would pay 360$ US for a pair of 1000miles. I prefer my Black Prairie Blacksmiths, but, since I'm not really sold on the Copper Rough and Tough version, I'll keep an eye open, for a pair of second hand, brown 1000miles. Have a good day !
I have a few 1000 mile boots, standard round toes and a pair of the Evans (Moc toe (but but stitched flat, and w a 1/2 rubber sole built in). I"ve noticed that the insole seems to have a little raised strip in the center rear that I suspect is a shank. Does yours also have that? It's opposite of what I want which is a cupped heel. I use a 1/2 sole insert to help but it's disappointing. My other goodyear welted boots (mostly Red Wings) with shanks don't have that problem.
I have the rubber on leather soled model almost a year old and still getting compliments on them. Do you have an opinion on the Asolo Adventure GV hiking boot?
I have a pair of LL Bean Katahdin boots by Chippewa that are much like these but not sure how they match up in quality but they wear very well, but I notice that the dye tends to rub off on my socks :)
After watching the rose anvil break down of these boots, I wouldn't spend the money on them. Which is too bad because it is a nice-looking boot! But on the inside it is clear that they cut a few corners but still charge as if they didn't. Still a better boot than a pair of Doc Martins though lol.
I find that there's far more room in the toe box with these than with Thursdays or Allen Edmonds. But maybe that's just the styles I've tried. What brands would you say have a similar last?
I just got a pair new on sale at a local store for $140 CDN on the weekend. I'm not sold on the leather sole. I walk a lot and there is no way the leather will hold up to my shitty gait and modern sidewalks. In just 3 days and maybe 15 miles there is significant wear. (I'm through the welt stitching near the toe). There is no way it will last 1000 miles. Im debating getting a half sole glued on, getting the soles replaced right away with a vibram mini lug or just wear them as is and get them resoled in 3 months when I've destroyed the leather sole. How have your leather soled shoes held up? This is my first pair and it just doesn't seem like a thing that should still exist in our modern world. ...although I do walk more than most people (40 minutes each way to and from work)
I find with leather soles they wear frighteningly for a couple of months and then settle down. These are oil infused leather soles so should last longer. They are far more flexible and breathable than rubber but obviously don’t last as long. Like all things in life you have to choose one attribute or the other!
I respectfully disagree about the clown look. The toe stiffener in these boots is bold and STRONG. As the boot breaks in and soften and crease, the toe remains as prominent as if it associates with Ronald McDonald.
Hi Tek, what kind of work do u do with aboriginals in WA? Sounds so interesting, would love to know more. You are such a wealth of knowledge and I love watching your videos.
I’ve been working with communities and community controlled organisations across the North since 1985, helping them in governance, Grant business-case applications, strategic/community plans, and in economic development and business startups, as well as in day to day leadership and business-management mentoring.
We all have different preferences. I apply rubber sole protectors on all of my leather soles.
Good idea...thanks

I just bought another pair from Wolverine for One Ninety Nine.

The leather soles are one of their best features

Nice review Teik, these are the boots I wear. Thank you for the education on Wolverine.
Thanks for watching James!

I’ve been watching u and many other channels for months
On a redwing iron ranger
U see the threads sowed threw the rubber out sole good year welt
As u walk the stitches on out sole get warn and disappear
Once that happens is out sole only be held together with glue
Is the thread still holding or is it gone can some one explain
I’m brain can not understand stand wats going on
Because if the thread is gone
Then wat was point of good year welt
Thanks for the honesty

Yes, place the boot between Higgins Mills and Red Wing Rangers and you find it's proper value.
Teik excellent review, we are still waiting for your comment on the next review. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
"Like some dogs and most cats it's not listening to me"
I plan to use this in conversation today.
A great work boot I wear them 12 to 14 hours a day in the construction field as long as the iron rangers just great boots to have ya make them sound fancy but in other people eyes maybe but just plain work boots
Maybe I should get a pair one day

I suspect the overall quality is not “as good” as the Wolverines, but you know, it’s in the subjective areas - I love my Chippewa service boots!
These are awesome boots....but for the price I feel like they cut to many corners....

Grant Stone, Parkhurst have combination lasts without to higher toe puff
