As a woman that grew up as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, this was always one of my biggest fears, going door to door as a child. 😂 Got out years ago, and now as a parent, I can't even imagine sending my kid to stranger's doors. Lol
There are a lot of people who believe in a lot of different things but nobody complains about them. The reason for that is because other religious group keep their faith to themselves, and they don't impose it on other people. If you feel like people have an issue with you because of your faith, then look inwards. It may not be you specifically, it maybe the institution and the members of that institution.
It’s been a long time since a horror movie has shaken my to my core quite like this one did. Everything about it is perfect. The claustrophobic feeling sets, the tense music, the acting.. it all comes together to create one hell of an experience. Hugh Grant delivers the best performance of his entire career as Reed, but in my opinion, the real MVPs are Sophie Thatcher and ESPECIALLY Chloe East. Both are absolutely phenomenal with East just barely edging out Thatcher as the film’s top MVP due to her acting in the final third once Sister Barnes dies. and that’s not even getting into the content itself 😂 what a searing commentary on religion as a whole. One that isn’t entirely original, but the way it goes about presenting its concepts is able to make up for that
Can't watch the whole video until the weekend because I'm going to see this in theaters tomorrow. Commenting because I hear that's good to do for creators you support!
@@stutter_box I went and saw the movie then I watched the rest of your video. I agree with everything you said. This movie hit me hard at first because I 'died' a couple of years ago and I went through the "afterlife". This movie was great and your review of it perfectly encapsulated my thoughts on it. Faith is yours, go nuts with it UNTIL you start to impose on others human rights and freedoms. We are all human and at the end of life, we all have to come to terms with the type of human we decided to be.
I definitely want to watch this very soon. The trailer sealed the deal for me. The front room with Brandy also looked good and had religious vibes. We always love debating about sky daddy. Yup I have no idea because there are so many denominations and religions period...it's alot.
Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition, I've just found your channel! Very thought provoking, and I'm looking forward to leaving a lot of comments in the future ✌️
You know the movie wasn't about challenging religion, right? If Mr. Reed cared about deconstructing religion his dungeon wouldn't be a female only closet of captives. He was just a weirdo obsessed with controlling women and he does it under the guise of dismantling religion. His motives were to force women to provide an audience for him while he talk.. and the missionaries had faults that led to their demise. Barnes was desperate to prove she was smart so she kept trying to poke holes in Reeds anti doctrine, while Paxton was eager to hide her wit, as to not trigger the obvious mad man; basically being like "golly-gee Mister, you sure are wise" "can we please go now? " I think you were just too excited about the secular logic rant, and maybe missed the actual premise for the plot
In comment sections elsewhere, current and ex-Mormons had a mostly positive reaction. They were saying that going door to door and the sister missionaries were portrayed accurately, and were not written as egregiously stupid.Their calling them "sister missionaries" set my teeth on edge. They're not missionaries yet? And they saw nothing wrong with restrictions for women.
33:18 Freudian slip! You said Religion serves to deal with "the Afterlife." I think you mean to say "to deal with death" because there's no proof of an afterlife.
Syntax/semantics… my mans is casually, off-handedly, referring to the abstract concept of what happens when your mom goes to that nice, big farm upstate… it’s got rolling grassy meadows where she can frolic with the other old 🐶s. lol You must be great at parties 😂
This movie is not against faith. It’s against high-demand religions and cults. It’s actually very supportive of faith. Faith has absolutely nothing to do with appeasing a higher power to try to avoid punishment. That’s religion. I would take all your critiques about people of faith and turn them all back on yourself as an atheist. You’re being pretty hypocritical.
@ Your respect for people’s faith is conditional upon them never sharing their views and perspectives with others. That’s where I would say you’re being hypocritical as an atheist.
@@PIF95 No? He said he respects religion as long as people don't try to use it to ruin other people's lives or that they try to lord over how society runs. It's on you that you don't understand.

I saw this movie in Utah, and several people who obviously didn't know what it was about angrily walked out in the first half hour. 😂
I also watched it in Utah and people also walked out within 20 minutes 😂

Agree through and through. And yes, though they’re all great, Chloe East absolutely floored me!
@@stutter_boxI love the arc that she goes through from being like kind of timid and awkward at the start to being able to stand up to Reed at the end
