Queen! This hit hard. There is one part where she begs him not to kill her, and he says "I will not kill you, you are my best friend" and then proceeds to boop her nose like she did earlier in the movie on his nose. She was not only there before, they were friends, that one hit home. Let's say on my 19's after I was super drunk, a "friend" of mine, did not act as a friend. I am 35 and I just accepted it happened and called ir for what it was, 5 year's ago. I stopped telling myself it was my fault and that it was normal to happen because I was drunk. Thank you for your análisis and for your unstoppable understanding and talking of the fear of being a woman. We are not crazy, we just had enough and won't stop talking and acting about it.
Just started watching, but wanted to say thank you for making this so thoughtfully. It definitely sounds like it would be something triggering so watching your review is easier than sitting in a theater unprepared. ❤ Although, it’s good this movie had a trigger warning at the beginning which was sooo much better than other movies like this.
Hey, I'm not sure if you know, but basically the plot of this film is playing out in real time right now in France....TRIGGER WARNING SA A total of 50 men aged between 26 and 74 are accused of SA'ing Gisèle Pelicot in her bedroom in southern France between 2011 and 2020. Gisele was given pills by her husband and doctors that made her go into a deep sleep every night and lose big parts of her memory, then men would do what they did when she was 'sleeping'. The husband was finally discovered because he was being prosecuted for another issue and police found the videos of all of what he did to Gisele on his computer.....he had filmed all of it. The trial is HUGE in France right now and being widely discussed, look it up!
That's awful. I hope she's doing okay. If this movie is anything like that, I don't think I'd be able to watch this video right now (I already feel like shit), not every violent SA survivor reacts like this, but reading this comment made me feel sick.
@@FishareFriendsNotFood972 Hey, it's all good. You had no ill intentions, and helped me take a step back until I'm in a better place to watch this video just in case.
@@shadows-sweet-embrace TW for what exactly?? There's literally no details besides saying she got drugged and people did stuff to her while she slept. Nowhere in the paragraph does it explicitly say anything that needs a trigger warning If you're that fragile stay off your phone for a while 😂😂

I decided to watch this video after seeing your newer video about Ryan Murphy, so I should go ahead and subscribe now because at the two minute mark, you hit the nail on the head. I would MUCH rather watch a video summarizing this story than watch the actual movie itself and possibly be triggered or retraumatized. Even if viewers of this video become uncomfortable while watching it, it's easy enough to click off and watch something else, whereas in the theater, you've already bought the ticket, you're already sitting in the dark surrounded by strangers. I just wanted to say that I appreciate the warnings and validating the people who want to know about the story either a) before going in, or b) having no intention to see it at all.
As you said, first red flag is going to a secluded island in the middle of nowhere. And then I saw they all had the same clothes (in what quantity???), my first thought was „how many women have been here and what happened to them?“
Even though the subject matter was super dark, I think it was an overall solid movie. I especially enjoyed the way Frida and Sarah interacted with each other.
I loved how Sarah was initially not super friendly (and kept eyeing Frida and Slater) but immediately switched when they realised something wasn’t quite right, because women have to stick together (which ties into what Sarah says over dinner because sh*t hit the fan). And as soon as they banded together, badasses!
I saw the ending a little differently. I saw it as Slater finally realizing that the therapist guy was actually his abuser which is why he stutters around him now, and now that Slater remembers, the therapist guy is getting arrested and Frida called the cops on him cuz she knows what he did. That's why in the movie when Slater says his sister gets mad at him for "going golfing with him after what he did to him." I took it to mean that the therapist guy is actually just a powerful executive but isn't actually a therapist, and during their "sessions" he is continuing to abuse him. I think he has been a "friend of the family" since Slater was a kid and that's how all this started.
Frida was the "Oracle" while the therapist played a somewhat "The Architect" role from the movie The Matrix. Possible two tech giants who were transcending throughout the mind of Slater. Slater, Frida and Slater's therapist were the only real people on that island.
@@Art_a_must I saw it as all one timeline but that she keeps getting her memory wiped and then brought back to the island. But I do think that it's possible that at the end of each of her visits, they probably give her a huge dose of the perfume to forget what happens. Maybe they offer a concentrated dose or drug their food before they leave or something. I'm not entirely sure but they do something to make her forget before they take her home again. But I think the process of her getting roped back into it is probably just like any other trauma survivor process where the things that trigger your traumas are kind of like a moth to a flame. You can't explain why it's so seductive to get sucked back into the trauma patterns from your past, but it keeps happening and then you end up hurting again after it ends. So I think she is drawn to Slater because her body and her nervous system are aching to resolve the trauma of her past by rewriting that story.
Psychologist here. I wanted to comment on the idea of something that makes you forget your trauma. It sounds too good to be true, and that's because it is. We know that people are able to repress their memories (usually it just happens, they don't actively try to do so) which can be protective in the moment but unfortunately, it does not mean there are no effects of the trauma. That's one of the main things psychoanalysis is supposed to help with - unearth those memories and feelings in the unconscious part of our mind and deal with them, so that they don't weigh us down. So in my opinion, although it is painful, if a person finds a good professional therapist to help them, who knows how to pace the process, it is better to find a way to cope with these negative experiences in the long run.
I couldnt watch the movie bec. it would have been too triggering to watch but I appreciate Zoë Kravitz using bold colours in her palette and giving us representation of succesful female anger, rage and physical violence! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I noticed the how the primary is being used here ... I haven't seen the movie (yet) but I wonder what each colors mean.... But i can take a wild guess ... Red = warning or danger Yellow = alert (???) Blue = tranquility (???) I noticed also the use of the color Green... Usually this means nature.... Maybe healing? There's also White ..... Not sure what it means (yet)... I gotta watch this movie!!!!
Ok but she gave Slater what he wanted right? To forget? Would it not have been poetic justice to, after she’s done all the switching the deeds and money and company into her name, then give him the venom so he remembers *everything* he has done and has to live with himself in the hell he created and she now rules?
Great review! This movie has stayed with me since I saw it. I’m not sure if I liked it. I might need to rewatch it to be sure. I really like the theory that the young kid sprayed himself and that Slater and Frida were in exes? If either of them looked at me like they looked at each other? 😮💨🫠 acting!
Did you watch the full trial? Because I did. I followed it everyday and listened to hours and hours of testimony. And I say this as someone who is more inclined to believe anyone that speaks out and believed the story that was originally told, I do not believe Depp was the instigator. No one is a perfect victim. That applies to both sides. And Heard was lying, which I hate to admit is the case because it hurts the rest of us when we speak out. Most abusers have a pattern, a trial of victims. Where are his other victims? Where were the people backing Heard? Why was he adamant about this trial? Why was the evidence provided highly questionable and she denied providing the original photos to show metadata? There were too many lies. I watched the whole thing in shock as I saw the media misreport and certain misandrists twist the story. I was never a Depp fan, I didn't know that much of Heard, but after watching the whole thing, I felt betrayed by Heard because I had believed her. I actually wonder how people cannot see through her and see how she takes away from actual victims. But I cop it up to people's own biases and not watching the entire trial. Too many people default to siding with women when there are also male victims of domestic abuse too. That is why so many male victims never speak out, because they know they will never be believed. Plus it is actually relatively common that manipulators and abusers turn the table and accuse the victim. So in cases where both sides accuse each other, I think it is important to take a step back and examine it all on a case by case basis.
