One funny thing is that he also plagiarized himself LOL (Well recreating his own songs over and over)
can u send me an expample lmao thanks for your funny comment i already knew it,

I mean, i write music and I do this too, but I try to be more subtle with it and just include "reused" bits as more of a motif than anything else
Yep😂

Thanks for clearing that up. I was confused legit
Damn that trunks one is one of my favourite themes, and the second one always felt familiar, now I know why lol
I think he made the tune more interesting actually lol although it is stolen
@@mathewg1747He just cut off one beat to make it 7/8 instead of 4/4 and then brought everything onto F minor (one of the plagiarized portions is on C minor).
@@mathewg1747undoubtedly.
I find it hilarious how obvious it was when he plagiarized September
and he did it with such a goofy ass sound 🤣
Such a shame, DBZ Budokai Challengers was one of my favorite DBZ songs.. I'm glad he got caught though, despite how awesome the music was it doesn't make it right to steal someone else's work.
Couldn't have he just sampled?
@@CraftTest943 That is another option he could've done. A shame he didn't.
You could still check out the original itself if you like the song
Yeah the music is awesome, because it was stolen from better artists.
Gave them more exposure when people found out, but also what killed him mostly is not giving credit. Had he simply give credit and get permission he'd be fine. Humble himself and work with other music talents to make some new material.
God it's not even subtle!! Not sure how he got away with it for so long.
One was because it’s Japan and two because the internet pointed it out around the 2010 I believe. Still he has a good ear not gonna lie
It is because the audiences don't really mix so they aren't competing
Because normies aren't ear trained.
I think the last song was actually just using the same Sound Sample pack for both, but the rest do seem pretty legit
His arrangements were fire, shame he had to steal
Hell I thought it was Sonic Heroes at first
@@mooganifyZero G - Chemical Beats
It’s sampled in MANY games’ soundtracks, it’s actually crazy
Yamamoto was practically DBZ Kai itself. Dude made so much bangers for that series and it fit Kai so well. I was only in 6th grade at the time, but I knew something strange happened when Nicktoons changed up the music in a re-run of episode 56..

For him not to steal other people's work you dumbass
Lmao way to spin this into a positive
That doesn't mean you should copy the music you like. Or if you do, at least be honest and license the music from the original authors, so you can make your own versions.
@@Andy_0L both are true lol
Man toei was lucky that no one copyrighted even afrer all this plagrism
Toei wiped their eyes out when creating the fifth Kai album and turned out that most of Yamamoto's Kai album were plagiarized like a bootleg compilation album you sold in a black market.
Fun fact those drums in the last 2 tracks are actually a sample which you can hear in other games as well like sonic heroes's egg emperor theme though i will admit in this they are chopped strikingly similar and with how many other tracks have been plagiarized by Kenji it wouldnt be too surprising if its copied.
The issue is that he didn't credit the original artists of the samples he used. He passed everything off as his own work
The drums are from a sample pack called Chemical Beats by Zero G. It even has electronic synths used both in sonic heroes and Budokai. There's a song in Budokai that has the same synths as chemical plant from sonic heroes.
Stratovarius is pretty sick tho not a bad band to steal from lol

@@spectraphantom6597Well, Yoko Kanno was one of them. Yamamoto stole one of the track from Cowboy Bebop.
Damn. At first I thought it was just the bass and then the synths came in. And there's still 4 more examples!
You know challengers kinda sounds somewhat similar to hunting high and low but having it mixed together it actually sounds even better
Dude got good taste and was quite competent at arranging music, shame that he didn't ask for permission (I think many of these bands would've been okay with being in a DBZ game, considering it was as popular as Pokemon back then).
I think that's the biggest problem. Didn't ask for permission.
*see's spiderman ripoff* EXCUSE ME WTF... I'm trying to figure out how I missed that because I owned a copy of that exact spiderman game. And also as a metal fan I can't believe such a thing went over my head as a kid.
I would’ve noticed it too had I played Budokai
Play X-Men Legends, one of the level has the song with the same piano synth as Inside Buu from Budokai 3.
Man, these comments are bending themselves into pretzel shapes to defend this.
Sure they sound awesome and was part of our childhoods, but *so did the songs he copied.*
You don't have to stop listening to them, but he *stole* them, *which is wrong.*
And I can’t believe you are typing this comment to attack someone who just made other songs better. Then why don’t you speak of other artists who steal *daily* content from other music too? Tell me, why constantly attacks somebody who only wanted to make something better? Why not juridically attack rappers or RUclips remixes? I can’t believe people are THIS dumb. Mate, think twice before stating this absurdities.
Lmao at all the people trying to defend his plagiarism by saying “oH bUt iT sOuNdS bEtTeR tHaN tHe oRiGiNal.” Plagiarism is plagiarism period. If he had paid to sample the music instead, that’d be a different story.
Thing is why do you as the end consumer give a crap? It either sounds good and fits the animation or it doesn't
@@liquidsnake6879Well they have reason to care when it doesn’t get used anymore.
Argument invalid.
Yes while there are like one million producers in America stealing shit everyday from other music and claiming it as their own, that is not plagiarized.. yeah yeah, very smart reasoning.
@theragingninja9858 wtf are you talking about? They *pay* to sample songs.
Sampling is no new concept, even the most famous of songs you'll find have been sampled multiple times like "im a believer" by the Monkees, new artist are sampling "im blue" by Eiffel 65.
You have to be an idiot to think otherwise, sure there have been occurrences of stolen songs, but they get outed, in this day and age people will know when an old song is used, use your head.
@@KikonSketchesDrake stole from multiple songs and saw zero repercussions for it. Remember the player's club?
I always recognized most of the stolen Riffs from stuff like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but I always just thought they were intentional homages or references to classic rock - kinda like how JJBA references American music all the time. I never realized some of the songs were literally just like… the same baseline or melody note-for-note copied from other obscure songs, that’s far less excusable lol
Also - holy shit fuck stratovarius slaps so hard lol
Why is the video so scuffed, all the titles are misspelled and the... "fading out"/transition is just flat lowering the volume 2-3 times
Wtf
Trunks killing Frieza to something that sounds like its from Seinfeld. That last one reminded me of Sonic Heroes lol.
Even despite this... his songs were absolute fire
That's true but the songs which he used were more fireee
@@animefightsakainu2924 TBF I loved the other songs a lot more than these
Of course they're fire. They're copies of awesome songs after all.
They aren’t his songs though
The Kai stuff is garbage, which is a shame because his Budokai music is godlike. He could've been like a Japanese Bruce Faulconer if his Kai music was like the Budokai stuff (which is a good thing, for any weebs reading).
Honestly, the tracks Kenji actually used were so good that I don't even think people are mad that he plagiarized, they mad cause he got caught doing it XD
Im only annoyed he did it without permission lol. ANd got caught ofc.
@OMP - I think he only got caught because he copied Avatar's theme for Kai
@OMP - Heard it was because the songs weren't popular in japan, not sure how accurate that is though.

And Challengers? Anthem of my childhood, I'll just say it.
Kenji Yamamoto: “When write a song that already exists” XD
Stratovarius sounds like an awesome band.
Battle Point Unlimited sounds like a Doom midi with those strings.

The very beginning of battle point unlimited sounds like guile’s stage from street fighter 2
He didn’t even try to change them 😂
It's DBZ I just wish I could just tell them personally thank you. Now I'm about to check out one band I've never heard before. Thank you so much! A BAND I would have never heard before until this. Sweet! At one point I felt the soul of Avenged Sevenfold. Fucking thank you DBZ!
@KurdischerHengst7 stop advertising you dumb Fuck
This actually lends itself to another point about wtf Yamamoto was thinking. Why couldn't he just....get permission from the original artists and do his remixing legitimately? Surely at least some of these guys would've been happy to have a new generation introduced to their work?
To be fair, the Battle Point Unlimited song is the whole plagerism of Progapanda album songs.
It is a mix of 3 songs.
he actually made murder of love propaganda way better

By cutting off a beat to make it 7/8 rather than 4/4.
I remember some theme in Guilty Gear game that sound so similar to stratovarius - hunting high and low
Right in the childhood...
Ok, @ min 07:00, who copied who, because apart from Spiderman, I believe Dan Wentz also made a version of it in Red Faction 1, just type Self Destruct Sequence, it's the 12th track.
This is what's bound to happen when you force out dragon ball games every year.
Some of these are just genre tropes and common motifs. There are way more obvious examples of his plagiarism out there. I saw another compilation a few years back that shows how much of the Androids Saga was stolen from James Cameron franchises. I'm gonna look for that video because your video isn't very good.
Dayum, Kenji was onto Strato fucking varius, hell yeah!
Jesus these are blatant when you hear them side by side like this 😂
Number one is straight up plagiarized. And I loved neversoft spiderman and bodokai 3 when I was little, however....neversoft Spider-Man I won't be surprised they got someone who worked with Pantera or some other rock band to produce it or used some sound pack on its ost.
Gotta think Kenji for putting me to some Strato though, their music is godly so far
After I listened to X-Men Legends' "Sentinel Labs (Action)" song, many of the comments were related to Kenji Yamamoto and when I get to Budokai 3's "Inside Buu", I really lost it when he stole the piano part from "Sentinel Labs (Action)" song.
He stole from fucking SPIDER-MAN?
Ok dragon ball z kai came out before Avatar so basically avatar stole one song from Kenji Yamamoto because dragon ball z kai came out in march 2009 and avatar came out December 2009
It was in 2010 that the copy appeared.
Just like he didn’t take long to copy Terminator 2’s theme a year after it came out back in 1992.

So that’s what they really do . Reuse sounds . 1:27 THE BEST SONG IN DBZ GAMES
7:24 I would argue it's actually plagiarized from Red Faction's Self Destruct Sequence.
NOOOO NOT BATTLE POINT UNLIMITED.

Man I had no idea they were this different
yamamotom sounds like circus music
I never noticed the avatar one
His best work was from far away in the DBZ series...sad that he went on plagiarizing other people's work for video games.
In my opinion, he was so talented that he really didn't have a need for it...makes you wonder why he did it 🤔
I personally disagree with #1
I think #1 is more closer to YuYu hakusho (Sensui's Territory) than Spiderman.
Yeah kinda but it's still closer to Spider-Man when it comes to the beat
i agreed. i also think it is just minor similar in beats and doesn't really sound like it.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say very few of the people throwing around words like "steal" and "plagiarism" are actually musicians themselves. John Williams and Led Zeppelin are given passes on much more flagrant examples of melodic similarity than these. The reuse and reapplication of riffs and licks is super common in blues, rock, and jazz music. There are even pieces which clearly reference other works by reapplying their solos within another context or otherwise outright rearranging the entire thing to be interpreted slightly differently. Hell there's a term to describe artworks like these, it's "pastiche". To an extent its just part of the art form. There are limited rhythmic and melodic combinations, and far less that sound appealing, so eventually they're all going to be dried up if this degree of similarity is considered theft. Removing any sort of nostalgia bias from the equation (because frankly DBZ budokai isn't that big a deal to me), this just seems like people getting mad over something they don't fully understand. I feel bad for Yamamoto having his name slandered over this.
Where there's smoke, there's fire. And there's 20 years worth of smoke.
Damn man the Avatar one is so close.
Kenji Yamamoto defenders are almost indistinguishable from the replacement score fanboys, in that they:
-Use nostalgia to retroactively justify what shouldn’t have been
-Disrespect the originals (in one case the copied tracks and in another the soundtrack that was replaced)
I never heard of the originals until just now. But disrespecting them is crazy tho.
I mean, I do like his versions of the songs more than some of the originals. Its not really a defense, but I do like how they sound.
I still have all my copies of dbz budokai 1-3 with the plagiarised soundtrack I wonder if they're worth something now given their uniqueness XD
To be fair, Trunks theme is, first of all, a remix of various Propaganda songs (not just that one). Secondly, Kenji Yamamoto's version is playing in 7/8, while the original is in 4/4. If you use the same notes but play them in a different rhythm and in a different tempo and/or time signature, it truly wouldn't be plagiarism.
Correct about the time signature change but that really wouldn't fly with the actual artists.
"Wouldn't be plagiarism" is quite the wild claim. It's still incredibly obvious WHERE he got the idea from, while barely changing the notes themselves, and -- most pertinently -- not crediting the original
There are so many songs plagiarized nowadays, and no one even says a word about it, this is bullshit, while poor kenji got sued because of this, just demonstrates how this society really failed in everything.
Shame.
Nope, many songs nowadays have similar rythms in just one part but have much other different stuff. Kenji got sued because he just took all this, so many similarities, nothing wrong with liking it, but he should have been honest and licensed the music, so he could make his versions legally
20 years.
Being honest I dont feel like the second one was close enough to call it plagiarism. It was clearly inspired by, and thats fine. Theyre definitely different enough though. Second one as in 1:42
agreed, it doesnt even sound the same or similar.
avatar one is very obvious. that is very clear.
The synth melody is almost note for note a direct copy of the lead riff in Hunting High and Low. The guitar is trying to mask how it copies the vocals by adding a few superfluous notes. The overall chord progression is also identical
@@joelcastro-reyes1667 these normies aren’t ear trained don’t bother
He could've at least tried to be subtle...how did it take so long for him to get caught?
And defense of the last one; that's just a drum sample. Imagine saying that using a sample like the amen break is plagiarism.
Hey can I copy your homework?
Fine just don't make it obvious..
The song Murder Of Love: Propaganda is from the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film..... By the way the plagiarize song is still in the Dragon Ball Kai Series or they have to redo it.
Wait what?
his copied songs are fire though lol
Should have stole from Sonic. Then they can say "well you guys stole our super sayan and 7 dragon balls idea"
Basically the anime john williams.
The Ebb and Flow was probably Kenji's own thing cuz DBZ: Kai came out before Avatar
It played on the cell arc which by the time they got there was at least 2009
Okay, the Budokai Challenge Ost and the Stratovarius song are different, the rhythm is similar, but the lead guitar in Yamamoto's song is radically different, it's pretty much a different song.... can't say the same for the other Stratovarius song. lmao
man ripped off spiderman ps1 hahahah
Plaging spiderman ahahah
He changed it up more than pop artists who make way more money do, they literally copy and paste without a thought and no one cares because its pop and they're rich so they can afford lawyers.
This guy was legendary for many childhoods and shaped many good music tastes.
Difference is those pop artists get permission and split a portion of the revenue with the original creator. This guy did neither.
He should have been honest and license the music from the original authors, so he would have been able to make his own versions with no problem
Hip Hop artists had plagiarized and stolen content from other IP for their album cover aside from songs such as Soulja Boy.
Shows picture of "Visions" album, while we hear songs from "Infinite". Just no...
Some of these aren't even SUBTLE.
No one ever ask why yamamoto did this and i find that weird
Because plagiarism >>> easy money
Because fans believe you can give passes to the Japanese. No. Everyone in this world must obey the copyright law.
Because he was really just an arranger.
