      Until 2020 (pandemic), most Canadians would have proudly & quickly said Canada is a great place. For multiple generations (young & old). It still is in many ways. But like all countries, a bunch of things have made life more difficult lately.
      During the COVID lockdowns, many people in apartments (or major cities) went nuts wanting to buy homes everywhere (urban & rural). Increasing demand and rising prices. Not long after, inflation caused mortgage rates especially to rise. Rent costs have soared too.
      People interested in working in hospitals declined. Less doctors etc..
      Simultaneously in Canada, the number of people coming by air, land and boat to claim asylum SKYROCKETED. For example, in 2023 alone, in just one region (Ontario) around 275 people arrived per day (on average). Ditto for other populated provinces. Also the number of international students skyrocketed too. Averaging around 1,096 per day in 2023 alone.
      Hospitals then hit with many wanting free healthcare. Less doctors/nurses etc., means greater waiting times.
      A severe housing crisis has occurred in many western countries including in Canada. In ways not seen in people's lifetimes.
      The majority trying to migrate to Canada recently have been from South Asia. And it's become extremely obvious to Canadians. Even those that are very used to much diversity & many cultures.
      Unfortunately not all players have acted honestly over the years. False asylum claims. Foreign 'agents' deceiving students for $. Plus some Canadians, a portion with ties overseas, became greedy and started doing things to make $ off of people's desperation.
      Then this year throw in all the Palestinian vs Israeli angry protests happening regularly in cities. Plus the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortion happening in Ontario and BC. All stemming from affairs in the Asian continent. Hate crimes went from rare to occasional.
      Canadians are not used to all this. So many, who have embraced multi-culturalism and immigration for decades are now worried and fearful (due to all of the above). And all are praying it doesn't turn into great anger (like in the USA).
      Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed … and for all people to be okay. Everyone I know is HAPPY with Canada Immigration's recent changes. Including multi-generation long-term Asian Canadians.

    I came to Canada as a Student 11 years ago and things were better then but in the past 1-2 years I have been advocating to my friends/relatives who want to come to Canada to drop their dream and pursue some other country.
    Even if you do get a high-end paying job which top around $130k-$170k you won't qualify for a Loan to buy a House in this country, you will have to go to Sub-urban areas that are 1-2 hours of Work Commute to afford one and then too you would need a huge down-payment to afford a loan.
    Canadian Goverenment has made Immigration a business and they are bringing in around a million people yearly and making profits off them through Immigration Fees, 3-4 times Education fees, Rents, Taxes and making them work in super-low paying jobs (average salaries here are $30000 annually). And all this while the Infrasturcture is crumbling & owning a House is becoming a distant dream.

    The student visa application form clearly says that a student visa is given on the basis that the student gets his education and comes back to home country. There is no guarantee that a masters in canada will result in a job in canada. Thats why it is essential that students do due diligence about the university from the university ranking websites and speak to college alumni. Also students have to remind themselves that they may have to look for jobs outside canada as well if things don't work out.

I can't tell you how many times a day people around me try to convince me that I'm making a mistake and should leave for Canada, or any other western country. While some of their reasoning may be logical, the vast amount seems like a mania to me. The societal pressure on those deciding to stay at home to leave for abroad is truly unbelievable.

Definitely these countries may seem like lala land but they will never provide you the emotional support you get from your soil. We definitely have to work more harder here but its better to make your country great and prosperous and lead at some point of time, rather than becoming servants in other countries and struggle their so much.

    I am not shocked or surprised with what ANI is trying to show here. Anyone with a little bit of common sense will know this reality. Not to be rude, but the universities these 2 folks are studying in are neither among any top college in Canada nor the courses they choose have much prospects. I see there is mostly a craze in northern India, specially places like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi etc to go and just settle abroad, like going to a foreign country is their ultimate goal and life would be like a fairy tale there. All colleges in the world showcase a rosy picture to attract students. It the duty of the students to do their due diligence to find out how these universities are in real. Problem is the expectation that life will just magically change when you go to a foreign country. You should only go abroad and study if it’s one of the top universities and you know you are a top talent, else prepare to throw your money down the drain. I have seen so many people over the years I met at work who studied abroad and came back to India to work after spending a bomb abroad on their study. Also there is always a hustle phase, where you need to compromise on your life. Even people who have jobs with a constant paycheck hustle with things like accommodation everywhere in the world. These 2 are just cribbing about the accommodations they got. I mean as a student where were you expecting to stay? Please come to Bangalore, Gurgaon and see the condition of PGs working IT folks are living in.

    This documentary, "Borrowed Dreams: The Canadian Experience," is a must-watch for those considering studying in Canada. It uncovers the hidden challenges faced by Indian students, contrasting their high hopes with harsh realities like the housing crisis, healthcare issues, and job opportunities.
    The importance of research before studying abroad is underscored, as it dispels the vibrant image often portrayed online. This thought-provoking documentary questions the support provided to international students in Canada, making us reconsider if the Canadian experience is worth it.

If there is no one guiding you you can easily get lost. Depends on what your end goal is. If you want to settle and do any type of work and work within debt/credit cards then yes you can make it. Otherwise if you want to be successful early and have savings then you should stay and find professional work or run a business etc in a less expensive country.

    Another is in Sanskrit from Valmiki Ramayana. Bhagavan Rama says to his brother Lakshmana after seeing the affluence of Lanka:
    "अपि स्वर्णमयी लङ्का न मे लक्ष्मण रोचते ।
    जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी ॥"

They are least concerned about you getting a job after studies. Most of the international students end up working in a field which is not related to their studies. The government and the colleges will never show you the true picture coz Canada runs on immigrants money. Immigration is the lifeline of Canada. Do not come here. As a domestic Canadian here … you guys are being used to make money
    Sorry
    Nobody in canada takes courses like hospitality management, healthcare management.
    These are courses no company hires for : nobody trusts their company’s capital to be managed by graduates that never worked in the industry (or better yet never managed people)
    The gov stopped subsidizing Universities directly in 1990’s
    That’s why they team up with agents in India selling you the BIG dream
    Blame the agents they and the universities are the one to get you in this place
    Canada doesn’t need hospitality managers : it needs trades people, engineers, healthcare workers on the ground, oil frackers, heavy duty mechanics, electricians , plumbers (the stuff that keeps the country running)
    If you want jobs mentioned above I assure you will make $$$$ get the top foreman’s position(management) in 4 years within the same ammount of time it takes you to complete a worthless degree

    A non-Indian here of course. But I remember way back that student visas were only granted to those who could demonstrate they would be able to support themselves for the ENTIRETY of their course with a view to returning home after completion.
    Where I blame the Canadian government is making it easier for international students to gain PR once their course is complete - it has lead to an abuse of the student visa system with a lot of international students who technically cannot afford their courses hoping they can find an easier way to stay in Canada anyway.
    Now, looking at it from the side of a Canadian citizen, I simply cannot see a reason for, nor agree to taxpayer money being allocated to “help” international students from any country, nor the roll of universities or businesses to make life easier for them. All of the issues I saw in the video would be resolved if a student comes to Canada with enough money to cover tuition and living expenses.
    I’m sorry if you have been sold a lie, but maybe returning home is the best option for you.

    Not only students, everyone is suffering here in Canada when it comes to housing cries and healthcare. It's close to impossible to have a family doctor and even if you get one you don't get an appointment right away. In case of major health issues such as cancer treatment and heart related problems you have to wait months for a specialist appointment before they can even start any sort of treatment ( my own sister had to fly to india to get a surgery done for cancer removal), in case your special needs children you have to wait years to get the treatments started, waiting time in hospitals can be upto 12 plus hours to see a doctor , not only rental prices are high but to buy a property is very expensive . Life here is not easy. If you have good job and good life in India you should think 10 times before you even think of coming here. I have been living here from 19 years and I am still struggling because the system is not right. It's a beautiful country and somewhat safe as well compare to India but life is very tough.

So how can normal people afford this ? It’s a complete mafiased system here , with 45 lakhs you can get a full education with EU recognition and you can practice there . Here per year the fees is 20L minimum, so 80 lakhs total.
      Also the total number of seats are extremely low in India as well , number of people are way higher so what will the rest of the people who don’t get government seats do if they don’t have money to pay for private ? Waste more years ?

    The thing is that people in Canada have tried to showcase the ground reality to people thinking about moving here. However, what others and I have observed is that people don't want to listen. Most of the time people sitting in India will ask us why are we not moving back if we're so saf about it. They fail to consider that we have been here for 4-5-10 years, we're pretty settled but understand that newcomers are going to face significant issue in current economic and political climate.

    Very well articulated and true facts have been demonstrated, I myself came to Canada after possessing the professional qualification in India, but sorry to say that the things are turning out to be very opposite way, I am doing a sales job in the category 3 Bank and doing odd jobs to meet my daily life style in India which I was having. The experienced personnel also suffers a lot when comes to foreign soil like Canada or USA. Planning very soon to fly back to India so that I can carry out my experience in Legal Professional domain.

Canada should send them back. Its not worth the trouble. SC ST and OBC and minorities can stay back. Upper caste need to hot foot it back to the land of Modani and Yogi

    Most of the Indian Students see the Indian RUclipsrs showing luxurious lives and then they expect to live that way. Last, some fail to succeed and become bankrupt at the age of a student and some become Canadian RUclipsrs.
    Dear Students, please consider spending that money in India and improve your mother nation like the country where you expect to live. Likewise, I would also like to request that Govt of India try to improve the facilities and open more opportunities for the students, something like ISRO.

    Almost a year now in Canada. It really depends on the type of person you are, if you think you’ll have a good relaxing life in Canada by looking in the Internet you’ll have a hard reality check when you reach here like the girl on the video. But if you are an aspiring student, you choose a good university, right courses and programmes and really work hard and keep on learning and working on yourself everyday, this country will reward you, this is a really beautiful country. I love India as my country but Canada is a very meritocratic country, you get what you deserve on the amount of work you put in and I agree Canada has lots of problems right now but no country in this world is perfect, if you just focus on the negatives all you’ll see is flaws so you just need to have a positive perspective.

    It is tough. But a piece of advise to students - be ready for the struggle, go for international education only if you have sufficient funds and not opting for bank loans. A full course fee + at least 1 year of expenses should be arranged before going international.
    This will help you focus first on your studies and with time you will find a way to secure a job. If you get a mental disturbance due to low funds or other negatives, then you have simply wasted the amount.

    The documentary is very good and addresses all the points that one needs to know. Can we get a similar documentary for students in India? We are facing the same problems of unemployment, while the property prices in tier 1 cities are skyrocketing.

  • @amitivory
    @amitivory 7 месяцев назад +5

    it is same everywhere! when a student from a Tier 2 town comes to a Metro city in India. They have similar experiences. We need to understand that. Also, 99% students going to Canada are not going their for education; it is a easier route to Canadian PR. They want to settle abroad and not return to India after studies. Studying Vs Immigration is an entirely different ball game. If your motto is just Studying, only University Education and not colleges should be focus be it in Canada or anywhere else around the globe.

    • @handsomejack8259
      @handsomejack8259 5 месяцев назад +1

      But they spend only Rs.200 on a train ticket to come to a Metro city from a village, while to go to Canada, they sell their land, house, take a loan and spend like 40-50 lakhs to reach here and end up getting nothing.

    • @chetanshukla768
      @chetanshukla768 4 месяца назад

      What an irrational comparison. Even those who are genuinely going there to study would certainly want an ROI. Their aim would be to stay there for a couple of years and earn handsomely to secure their future. And it is a no brainer that Canada is better than India in a lot of aspects and Canada has (at least until now) made it fairly easy for the immigrants to earn a PR in a stipulated time frame. Keeping the aforesaid in mind, who would like to come back to India after their Canadian education and work experience?

    • @ft1725
      @ft1725 4 месяца назад

      @@handsomejack8259The truth of the matter is many Indians encounter your first real understanding of race and class difference in a Western country to which you are brainwashed to hold higher than your native country. The Canadian citizens want exceptional Indian immigrants who come from families that don’t have to take out loans so they can study in Canada. Even these exceptional Indians are lower on the socioeconomic ladder than a Canadian citizen who’s been there since they were babies.
      The citizens do not want to subsidize Indian students’ education fees and although tuition is unequal when comparing citizens to internationals, it is not unfair. Many Indians who have come to study, study nonsense subjects the Canadian economy does not need. Culinary management is a bullshit diploma program. The same thing with healthcare management. Get degrees in nursing, get trade jobs and apprenticeships like electricians, etc.
      Also, many Indian students believe they are good at speaking English until they arrive in the country. Many have thick accents that are highly incomprehensible to native English speakers. This language barrier makes it much harder for Indian immigrants who don’t have a fluent level of English to understand the social nuances and implications of their actions. Canadians will observe your behavior to see if you have your head on straight. Many immigrants from India do not. The citizens see a lack of self respect in a lot of Indian international students’ behavior. If your source of getting to know Canada came from immigration officers who make money off you, tv which advertises and lies to everyone, and third parties who are not inclined to tell you the whole truth as a way of saving face, it is largely your fault for being so naïve.
      If you want to do better in Canada as a collective Indian internationals first need to speak, write, read, and listen to more English. They must be fluent before even applying to study in Canada. This is the foundation to everything else to do okay in Canada. Indian internationals need to apply to programs that are necessary for the Canadian economy. For instance, Canada needs more nurses. Indian internationals should not rely on getting a part time job to fund their education in Canada. They need to be exceptional enough to get a scholarship or economically stable enough to pay for the education themselves. Finally, Indian internationals should understand there is a reason why many Canadians who don’t have an Indian background don’t want to go to India, but Indian international students from India want to come to Canada. What that means is Indian internationals need to understand there will be race and class differences that manifest in the way people react to a Canadian born citizen to an Indian international student. Is this fair? No. But knowing this, and knowing what you will do about it will serve you much better in the long run.
