Hey Daniel! I began my tattoo journey a little over a year ago and I've been watching your videos like an absolute f**kin madman and I must credit a lot of my success to you. After just doing fake skins for a year I finally decided to start doing real skin (my own) with the guidance of your needle-depth video of that mandala/flower you did on yourself which honestly man helped the most out of any needle depth on fake skin video out there. After doing 4 on my own legs and getting pretty damn comfortable I decided to start working on some friends and family and my first ever on my friend came out so damn well my lines were saturated, I had zero wobbles and it just looked overall like a solid tattoo and is already healing very well. My second however did not come out great (I will be able to fix it) and I think it was due to the placement back of upper arm near elbow, I found I really struggled with the angle and if you could make a video on maybe how to deal with drastic angles and such and still pull long clean lines I think that would help a ton of people and not just me, also another thing you can maybe shed some light on as I promise you there is NO info on this topic at all is tattooing really boney areas like knee caps, knuckles, and hands. It was a 5 inch sword with really long straight lines... maybe it wasnt the smartest choice, also my machine that I use actually just shit the bed yesterday so maybe that had something to do with it as well. But yea im doing almost 4 flash pieces every week right now and it's all thanks to your videos man 🤘

@DanielYuck The first bought machine I worked with was a cheap coil liner with dragonhawk needle bars. I got the Extreme and kept on with the bar needle and switched to a 30mm metal grip. Once I made my way through all of the bars I had I felt it was time to give cartridges a try!

Totally agree, I just finished a nice piece on a sheet of TrueSkin, I figured it was stenciled so I might as well do it. They do both have there pros and cons, if TrueSkin would soften there formula a hair then it would be 🔥 If ReelSkin would thicken there skin by 1mm then it would be 🔥, I can’t get anything other than 2mm skins from them, they state between 2-3mm… I think for people starting out, they are going to have a bit tougher time getting things together on the TrueSkin. Definitely worth practicing on both probably, I chocked the TrueSkin up as a 65 year old biker that’s been riding shirtless in the Florida sun for 45 years. I appreciate all the time and effort you put in for the community, keep up the good work

Your videos are always so helpful. I have been saving to get a dragonhawk x8 so I can slow down my speeds for dot work. I need a better gun, the one I have is a hand-me- down and is one of the 1st MAST . Cant hang my needles at all and if I go out more then 3mm even though its a 3.5 I dont get ink do less i get ink dumping and seem to not get any depth and faint lines havibg to go over it like 8 times before getting even visible clean lines.

I prefer to hang my needle out a lot so I can relate to not being able to hang the needle. I prefer to hang my needle out to be able to see the needle tip and so I can prevent pooling of the ink. @DanielYuck fake skin. I am still new but been following your videos theyre very helpful. I wont even attempt human skin until I have a better gun. I dont wanna injure the skin when tatting people making a bad name for myself right away. When I can finally get 1 stop lines on fake skin maybe 😆 . It may also be the cheap ink that I have too. It okay for practice but wouldn't use it on a real tattoo if you paid me. The colors are nice but the blacks and darker colors seem to have to really go over it to get it even decent. 🙃 Hopefully soon I can get a better tat gun to get better results. I know it'd make a world of difference. Keep up the helpful tips. I follow a few different tattoo channels and by far yours has been the most helpful when it comes to technical issues. You break it down into a good understanding that doesn't complicate things. My eldest sons 10 he wants to learn to tattoo. For xmas I got him the ink pen cartridges that you use with your practice books. After i get a new tat gun he can have this old one to get his lines down. Good practice.
My lines are coming out like the middle good one so I guess retracing them is normal? I have to go over them everytime. And that’s what slowing me up cause you have to retrace them perfect or it looks bad
Those lines on TrueSkin look like garbage compared to the ReelSkin , as far as saturation, needle depth, and the time it takes to apply. I ordered some TrueSkin after watching your videos, and by the way I find them to be good and thank you. I ordered four, stenciled and applied a few and decided it was garbage compared to ReelSkin, no offense, I returned the two that were unopened. I get the same results as you, I personally find that the needle depth has to be quite a bit deeper on TrueSkin and you need to go quite a bit slower with voltage kicked up high. Maybe good practice for thick weathered skin, however I’ll stick with ReelSkin.
I appreciate your feedback, time and support Conrad! I apologize about your experience with Trueskin. I can understand where you are coming from. I personally love Trueskin however it can be a bit on the tougher side of fake skins. I feel Trueskin is a fantastic skin all around as it cleans up nicely, accepts multiple forms of ink deposit from lining to shading etc. I also like that I have to adapt to the fake skin to accomplish the results I am looking for. I am working on a full torso tattoo on Trueskin and I am enjoying the process. I just have to adapt to this fake skin. I don’t higher up my voltage or anything. I will adjust my hand speed & voltage which I find translates nicely to adapting in human skin. I also love Reelskin as well because it’s softer and easier to work with, not as tough. But also has its draw backs as it can be a bit more on the softer side as well. I feel it’s the best of both worlds. Softer or tougher the objective of applying a good tattoo for me remains the same.
Hey man, thanks so much for the video and the tips. I have a question and I dont think i'm the only one struggling with this a beginner artist. So I've been practicing a lot on fake skin and it looks really good and solid, I even bought a fake hand to wrap my fake skin around to practising on those angles but when I tattoo real skin it dosent come out so good. Dont know what to do or how to practise to make it better without real skin practise?
I've been told by different artists what the proper needle depth is and the answers are never really helpful. So in terms of millimeters, what is the proper depth?
Then you clearly aren’t putting what they say to practice, if you did you would have an idea , he literally shows you in the video, if you can’t follow that then how do you expect to get it with millimeters? You gonna use a ruler?!

my man. i did a tattoo the other day and alot of lines just werent depositting enough ink consistently. used a 9 Round Liner and was lubricating every line with A&D before pulling them thru the flesh. i was wondering if the A&D was dulluting the ink by continuously applying it? or was 6.3 to 6.9 just way too slow for my application? possibly both? when i cleaned the appearing to be ok tattoo off with green soap it revealed some horrible ink saturation like almost invisible, some. and i made double passes on the lines too & was dipping the ink properly. it was sad
also i noticed how light your stencil is on the synthetic skin. how do you get them so light dude? my eyes arent the best so sometimes i have trouble even telling apart the ink im depositting from the stencil and its kind of hard differentiating whats really going on till i clean it off. id love lighter stencils, i dont know why they choose a dark blue so close to black pigment for stencil paper lol maybe im just blind idk

Maybe good practice for thick weathered skin, however I’ll stick with ReelSkin.

I apologize about your experience with Trueskin. I can understand where you are coming from. I personally love Trueskin however it can be a bit on the tougher side of fake skins. I feel Trueskin is a fantastic skin all around as it cleans up nicely, accepts multiple forms of ink deposit from lining to shading etc. I also like that I have to adapt to the fake skin to accomplish the results I am looking for. I am working on a full torso tattoo on Trueskin and I am enjoying the process. I just have to adapt to this fake skin. I don’t higher up my voltage or anything. I will adjust my hand speed & voltage which I find translates nicely to adapting in human skin.
I also love Reelskin as well because it’s softer and easier to work with, not as tough. But also has its draw backs as it can be a bit more on the softer side as well. I feel it’s the best of both worlds. Softer or tougher the objective of applying a good tattoo for me remains the same.
Hey man, thanks so much for the video and the tips. I have a question and I dont think i'm the only one struggling with this a beginner artist. So I've been practicing a lot on fake skin and it looks really good and solid, I even bought a fake hand to wrap my fake skin around to practising on those angles but when I tattoo real skin it dosent come out so good. Dont know what to do or how to practise to make it better without real skin practise?
I've been told by different artists what the proper needle depth is and the answers are never really helpful. So in terms of millimeters, what is the proper depth?
Then you clearly aren’t putting what they say to practice, if you did you would have an idea , he literally shows you in the video, if you can’t follow that then how do you expect to get it with millimeters? You gonna use a ruler?!
@@randomshit65 their answer is never the same. If my skins are 4mm thick then I can set my machine by that guideline. The question wasn't for you either.

Maybe u should have did the first lines as slow as u did the second 1
my man. i did a tattoo the other day and alot of lines just werent depositting enough ink consistently. used a 9 Round Liner and was lubricating every line with A&D before pulling them thru the flesh. i was wondering if the A&D was dulluting the ink by continuously applying it? or was 6.3 to 6.9 just way too slow for my application? possibly both? when i cleaned the appearing to be ok tattoo off with green soap it revealed some horrible ink saturation like almost invisible, some. and i made double passes on the lines too & was dipping the ink properly. it was sad
also i noticed how light your stencil is on the synthetic skin. how do you get them so light dude? my eyes arent the best so sometimes i have trouble even telling apart the ink im depositting from the stencil and its kind of hard differentiating whats really going on till i clean it off. id love lighter stencils, i dont know why they choose a dark blue so close to black pigment for stencil paper lol maybe im just blind idk
