You did the right thing. That reminds me of our trip to Disneyworld, where we were lounging out by the pool at The Wilderness Lodge, and saw this large black snake slither next to us! It scared the bejesus out of us, and we still don't know if it was venomous or not.

I can understand a snake protecting it's own territory, but when they are in my territory I will find a way to remove it and kill it.

As with all and any wild critters , Habitat is key . Allowing a Lawn to become overgrown will allow a ' Habitat ' zone and not everything that might move in there may be ' Neighborly ' . Snakes are synonymous with tall grass , perfect snake habitat . Keeping a tidy home means yard work , tidy in and tidy out .
Good job on not getting snake bit while getting the job done .

Woohoo, another dead snake! That's what I'm talking about. Only good snake is a dead snake.
Okay, all kidding aside, I'm terrified of snakes and have had multiple run-ins with them in the wild, and it's no joke.
You definitely did the best thing to keep those kids safe. God gave humans the awesome responsibility to manage His creation by ruling over the animals, and sometimes that calls for decisions such as the one you guys made on that day.
Well done gentlemen. God bless you Blake.

Yeah it was a cotton mouth. if it would have stayed away from those kids I’d of let it live.

If you run across a 4 or 5-foot-long diamondback rattlesnake or a water mocassin, hit it with the hot sauce. It is nonlethal but makes them very disinterested in you.
I like Sabre Red in the stream type. Most cold or warm-blooded animals do not tolerate pepper spray. that is why it is used in Bear Spray
but in a lower concentration than human pepper spray. But I always have a Ruger or Colt right hip loaded with CCI Snakeshot.

I really amazed you guys don't run into more snakes than you show. I do agree with making sure it did not go into the next yard with the kids but as fat as that snake looked it was eating well. Hope the mice and rat population does not benefit from the snake being gone.
I live in the city and have had garden snakes it my yard and found 1 in my basement twice. When I was young and would visit family in the country, they always kept a hoe by the door. They would open the door and find large snakes sunbathing on the steps to warm up often.

apart from the fact that you almost stepped on her it's good that no one was bitten and you did the right thing that you protected the kids.
