      Thanks so much ChuckP25! You'll love it! The only thing I'd do differently is install the handle in the middle. Now that they've been up a while, I think I'd prefer it that way when opening the doors. But they still work fine having it installed on the outside edge.

    Nice job ladies!!! Just wanted you to know that I noticed there was some blow out from drilling the holes for the hardware. This can be avoided in two ways. One simple clamp a sacrificial piece of wood tight to the back of the door or two use WoodOwl Ultra Smooth Tri-Cut Auger bits to drill your hole. They stop your cur just before you penatrate the door. This allows you to turn the door over and finish drilling from the opposite side. No blow out.

      THANKS for the tips! I guess we weren't too concerned because it was going to be covered by the hardware and on the inside of the door. BUT it's definitely good advice for future projects 🙌🏻

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  3 месяца назад

      Our closet opening is 46" and the rail size is 52". If you go to the description of the hardware there are more detailed images as you scroll down that tell you how to measure to order the correct size of hardware. I can't remember exactly but its the door width plus (xx) amount and it will tell you the right size of rail to use. shopmypo.st/YeZbOa

    This is great! I need to access the entire opening of my closet to allow interior drawers to open. Is it possible to mount the swivel door far enough outside of the opening to allow the entirety of folded doors to be outside the closet opening? Meaning: will the swiveling door hit the wall?

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  3 месяца назад +1

      It's hard for us to say for sure since we don't know exactly what the area looks like. But I would think you can. As long as the doors are large enough to cover the closet opening if you shift them farther to one side I don't see why you couldn't.

    @2thesunnyside do you need a hardware kit specifically for a bi fold door or would a "regular" barn door hardware kit work?

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  6 месяцев назад

      That's a great question! Yes you do need the bifold-barn door hardware kit. The "regular" barn door hardware slides to the left and right but doesn't have the swivel function to slide the doors open like the bifold-doors. Hope that helps. Here's a link to the hardware we used. Be sure to read through the description carefully so you get the right size. (There's a Q&A section that will help you with that, I want to say you need to add 6" to the overall opening of your closet space to figure out what the rail length should be.)

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  4 месяца назад +1

      Great question! Now I realize we didn't cover that in the video 🤦🏻‍♀️
      It's recommended that the size of the guide rail = the width of the door opening + 6"
      For example: the width of your door opening is 34", they suggest you buy 40" or more guide rail.

    Thank you for the video. You make is look so easy! We installed a similar bi-fold barn door but when we close the doors, they seem to fit perfectly but they don't stay closed, they fall open an inch or so. Is there a magnet we could use to help keep the doors shut? Thanks for any suggestion.

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  4 месяца назад

      Oh no! That's a bummer! When the doors are shut do they seem to be too tight and that's the reason they're popping back open? 🤔 I'm just curious because when we first installed ours instead of popping back open they'd almost want to keep closing so the middle where the two doors meet was actually folding in on itself so the doors were angled in toward the closet in the center. I put little rubber drawer stoppers in the center of the doors to help them stay closed with a flush look instead of being recessed. (Hope that makes sense 😅)
      If that's not the case, then trying magnets in the center of the doors isn't a bad idea. You'll have to let us know how you fixed the issue. Good luck

    I love your video. When you added the 2 1/4 inches, is that to the top of the Rail? What size drill bit did you use for the pilot hole? I also see you used standard drill bits and not metric. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  3 месяца назад

      Adding the 2 1/4 inches to the height of the door will give you the center point of the rail (where it will be secured through the holes in the rail). For the pilot holes we used a 5/8" bit (15mm) and drilled 2" deep. Hope that helps.

    • @rbosco2112
      @rbosco2112 3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for getting back to me. Just one thing. For the pilot hole for the rail screws are you sure you used a 5/8 bit. 5/8 is so much bigger than the screw and the bit in the video looks small. @@2thesunnyside

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  3 месяца назад

      Oh my goodness! Good catch! I just went back to the instruction manual and it did say 5/8" (which was for an extra step we didn't show in the video: installing small wood pieces if we didn't have a wood header to secure the rail to).
      So to answer your question again, looking back at the manual, it shows a 1/8" pilot hole. Hope that helps.

    Is the floor mount only needed to prevent the wobbling ? What would happen if you don’t use it? I only ask because I have a tile floor I want to do this on, not sure how I would secure it. This video is extremely helpful btw! Thanks for creating.

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  Месяц назад

      Yes the floor mount would prevent it from wobbling. I guess it could actually come off the rail and fall down if you don't install the floor mount. You can get a tile/cement drill bit so you can still secure the mount into the tile.

    What if your have LVP floating floor and can’t with concrete subfloor, I can’t drill into the floor, will this barn door still work? Any suggestions?

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  5 месяцев назад

      There are certain nails you can drive into concrete. Of course that one piece of LVP wouldn't float but the rest would be able to. There are also some really strong double sided adhesive "tapes" you could try. That piece essentially keeps the doors plumb with the wall and from wobbling around when the door is in use. Maybe take a trip to your local hardware store and see if there are any products that might work.

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  2 месяца назад

      🤣 Glad you proved him wrong! 🤪 We actually worked with the company on this video 👉🏻 ruclips.net/video/TEhOKfzFJnk/видео.html And helped provide feedback on their instruction manuals. So they should be much better now. (Pretty sure the wood dowels are included if you were planning to install directly into sheetrock or other types of walls. (Without a header or stud to secure the rail to). You'd drill a hole big enough for the dowel to fit into, then you'd secure the rail into the dowels) 🤷🏻‍♀️ That's our best guess anyway.

      Well bi-fold doors have been around for a long time. But most are only familiar with a barn door that slides to either side to open and close. So in the barn door world having it open as a bi-fold is just a different option for functionality in different spaces.
