I have one of your cimarron replica 45’s, Every gun I buy I always take apart and start polishing internals,, yours is the first one I didn’t need to work over. Very satisfied with this pistol
After watching this video I ordered a Model P. Waited for months. When it finally arrived the end shake and barrel/cylinder gap was dangerously excessive… over 20 thousandths of an inch! Cimarron told me to send it back to their gunsmith. After more months of waiting it was mailed back to me. The barrel was set back so far that while the barrel/cylinder gap was great, the cylinder would no longer turn after cartridges were inserted. The base of the cartridge would not clear the recoil shield. Went from too loose to too tight. Sent it back again. This time the wait was much shorter, but when I got the revolver back, the cylinder fit correctly, but the ejector rod was literally hanging off of the barrel by almost 1/8” at the end. It was unusable and unsellable. I asked Cimarron to replace it, but they refused. I finally gave up and give it away. I love these old weapons and appreciate that they are still being made, but this was my experience.
Making gun history with Mike Harvey. This is outstanding dedication to the gun world and people that Love collecting and shooting. Thank you Mike for everything you do. Keep up the good work. And I will keep collecting. 🇺🇸🇨🇱
I would have to agree, these 1800’s weapons are works of art. Definitely masterpieces from days past, a chapter in the pages of history all on their own.
I have a 5.5" 1873 that I bought in the mid 90's, beautiful revolver, and well made. When I bought it I test fired it, cleaned it and put it away. A few months ago I decided to load some cartridges, and test it properly, and regulate the front sight because it shot a bit to the left. In short, this is one of the most accurate revolvers I've ever fired with Berry's 230 grain plated hybrid hollow point bullets and a moderate charge Of Unique powder. 3 shot groups are literally "one hole" at 18 yards from sandbag rest. When I purchased the revolver, I compared it to Colt and Ruger, and it seemed higher quality, than either of those, and looked better as well. I love it!!! Keep up the great work. Oh, and tweeking the front sight a bit got her dead on the money the first attempt.
@@clatechilders856 Made a tool from a stick of forged aluminum, cut a slot in the end the same shape as the front sight, and lightly bent sight. It's unnoticeable, and is now dead vertical. It only took a small amount, nothing drastic.
I have been watching Mike Harvey do these Cimarron Original videos, he seems to be very much at ease with his presentations. Recently, I bought a new Cimarron Frontier model revolver with a 7-1/2" barrel. I am VERY much impressed and happy with this beyond cool revolver. All the screws were placed in the frame with absolute precision, which is a sign of a company that stresses perfection! Sometime I want to talk to Mike Harvey one on one... I have some original old time gallery cards of indians, and one gallery card is an original of gunman Tom Horn that Mike Harvey would be interested in. I think that Mike Harvey may be familar with my friend and famous cowboy artist, Mehl Lawson. We were in the same high school class in California.
@@wilmoney4619, Cimarron revolvers are well worth the money! Everything is as Mike Harvey says it is. I might buy another Cimarron revolver with a 7-1/2" barrel! Then, I will have 2 of the same .357 Cimarron revolvers!
Mike, I just bought one of your 1862 Pocket Pistols in .380 two days ago. Disassembled it and cleaned it that night and went to the range yesterday. This was the first Cimmeron for me, I have to tell you the fit and finish was first rate! Shooting it was a delight! It’s a little stiff but it’s new, that will improve with time. Shot a little high, gonna find the sweet spot for it and with some Kentucky Windage, it will be just fine. It’s a good match with my nearly 40 year old Henry brass frame. Next purchase will be one of you Navy Conversions in .38. Thanks for your quality products and company!
I bought my own 1873 single action for open carry, hasn't failed me once, it came tuned for smooth, cowboy action shooting as well, as having an awesome fit and finish all for a reasonable price to. Only had to replace one piece and it only cost me 60 bucks. Cimmerian knows what they're doing and is damn good at it, can't recommend them enough.
I just ordered a Cimarron P410 Frontier model chambered in 45 Colt. On your web site you indicate that this model is an exact replica of the pre-war SAA. This, I believe includes the lockwork that produces the 4 clicks. The pictures look great and I am really looking forward to getting it! I plan on ordering a mate for it as I am going to get back into CAS. Great vid! Thanks!
I bought one, I love it. it is a work of art. don't like what Uberti did to the firing pin to make it collapse on cattleman 2. I'm glad I got a Pietta model where the firing pin is solid
*Too bad the guy who misinformed his audience doesn't apologize, and point people in the right direction of the facts.* *Instead, his ego stands firm, forcing you to have to take the initiative in straighten his mess out.* *Oh well, we all benefit from having heard this wealth of information you have stored in your mind.* *And the Saga of Old West Replica Firearms, grows on because of you.* *Thanks....Thumbs up # 95*
I just finally saw a Cimarron 357 today for first time and I was really taken with how beautiful it is I am a former special forces medic and I usually go for the newer semi auto handguns Glocks Sigs etc.. but I am really seriously considering buying one now.
Thank you for this. I'm about to buy an old model p with the 7.5 inch barrell, looks absolutely beautiful. My friend has an Uberti which is great but I like the wood and finish on these Cimarrons so much. I'm also just so happy there is a company that still offers the authentic experience with these guns, including the 4 click hammers and all of the internal changes made by Cimmarron. You guys are great.
Just picked up my Frontier .45,4.75 inch. Been playing with it all day lol. Also got an El Paso speed rig holster and a beautiful glass case for the 6 gun. All beautifully made from Cimarron. I look forward to purchasing more goodies from you folks.👍👍
I have property in Llano very close to Enchanted Rock. I'm definitely paying yall a visit soon when I go down there. I just ordered a Frontier .45 Colt ,4 3/4. Cant wait to get my hands on it. Thanks Mr Harvey for all you do and your great contributions in quality firearms. 👍👍
Thanks. Unfortunately Cimarron is closed to the public, but Texas Jack Wild West Outfitter is also owned by the Harvey family and is Cimarron's official showroom. Its a great Western store! We look forward to seeing you there! Thanks!!
Thank you sir for those stories very very knowledgeable I love cowboy shooting and the history on all these guns thank you for the video it was a pleasure listening to you
Mike Thanks so much for your stories. Love my Cimarron's. Please have them make a Model 1894 in 25/35. You are the only outfit producing a decent 1894 Winchester 26" Octagon barreled 94, and with Hornady making the 25/35 Leverlution ammo with those soft plastic tip splitzer bullets it really makes a total full measure out of that round.
Just bought two of your Uberti SAA revolvers, a 7th Cavalry model in .45 Colt and a 5.5 in .44 WCF. Other than the fact that the Calvary model came with a mar in the grip and a scratch on the hammer, I am somewhat pleased with them both. Would simply argue that "Works of Art" are generally unblemished. Tools, on the other hand, are pretty much destined for some kind of surface altering demarcations. Just not sure in this case which term applies to my purchase.
Thanks for the video! I'm 45 years old and I've been hunting all of my life. I've always loved the old firearms, even the old flintlocks. I've had all sorts of firearms but I am in the process of getting just single action revolvers, leverguns and single shot and double barrel shotguns. I know that semiautomatic firearms have more ammunition but they aren't near as nice or built near as well as an old colt or Winchester. I don't have a lot of money but I'm going to do my best to get me a few cimmarons.
I love my Cimarron 1873 SAA 5.5” Artillery Model. It’s such a sweet shooter and I wear it around my property regularly. It’s taken a bit of a beating over the past couple years. Would love to get the wood grips refinished or new.
I like my modern guns but I also love classic firearms from the old west too. Like you said they were works of art. I live near Fort Smith, Arkansas witch has an old west history with the courthouse of the famous Hanging Judge Parker that sent U.S. Marshals to find outlaws hiding in nearby Oklahoma. That of course inspired the movie True Grit. They have some of the original classic guns in the Courthouse museum and nearby they are building a U.S. Marshals Museum. I definitely want to purchase a old west style replica soon and the classic revolvers still made by Colt are $1700+ . There are a few Cimarron revolvers at our local gun store. They looked beautiful. Don’t know witch models they were. One was $500 and the other $600. Maybe soon I might put one on layaway. I think every gun owner needs at least one old west style revolver.
I found an old 1889 colt single action army in horse thief canyon in Oklahoma fully loaded look like someone dropped it back in that old west time period
Mike, my Cimarron Frontier.45, is a better pistol than my 3rd Gen Colt. It’s a Pietta made SSA, but it’s so much nicer than the Colt, and I have always been a Colt fan, I daily carry a Colt 1911, but as far as quality, your Cimarron Arms are as good as they get.
Could you possibly give the width measurement of the frame where the backstrap meets please? I know the full sized P frame is .88 inches across to accept the full sized grip. I cannot find the actual width of the smaller P Jr Frame. Thank You!
I wish the uberti cimmaron 1873 had the correct checkering on the hammer instead of the laser stuff they do now. Wish they would fix that as cosmeticly they are typically very attractive accurate to original guns.
Mike you posted a great video and I really enjoyed watching it, and talking about craftsmen work on a firearm versus mass production. I recently bought one of Cimarron’s Evil Roy 45 colt revolvers and it has the smoothest action that I have ever tried on a single action handgun (I am not disrespecting the other manufacturers and have several of their firearms). But there is no comparison: the hammer comes back effortlessly and the trigger break is smooth as it gets. I don’t know if my Cimarron is a fluke but don’t think so. The guys at the gun shop are friends and they said it was as smooth as any they had ever seen, including more costly single actions. You didn’t mention trigger action in your video but you really should point that out it is second to NONE. Best Wishes from Wild, Wonderful West Virginia!
I’m going to buy another Cimarron. The 1892 Cimarron made by Chiappa is as nice as the Miroku Winchesters. Next is a 1873 Army. Right up the road from my cousin inJohnson City.
I love it. I have a pietta saa and I didn’t know the difference between the companies. Now I know you sold me with the fake gun news. I have to get a cimorron now. Thinking of the el malo 2 because it’s so different from everything else I love the creative new old style stuff. Thunder back strap birds head octagonal barrel wide hammer I mean awesome. Also the octagonal barrel adds more weight to the 3” barrel helping with recoil. The evil Roy in 7.5 I think I’ll get that one day two. My wife limited me to two guns a year. Apparently she says I have to pay the mortgage and 401k also.... great video man love firearms love history love America so of course I love western guns.
Mike. Thank you. Fantastic history. I learned about Cimarron from "The Adventure Cowboy" as I have been looking for a Colt single action to go with my original 1896 manufacture date Winchester 1892 in 44-40. I learned about the Cimarron Bisley in 44-40 with 7 1/2" barrel. I want to purchase one from you guys. Do you sell from the Fredricksburg Office or do I have to go through a Dealer? I would really prefer to purchase from you. I am 64 years old and this is a lifelong dream to have the two firearms in 44-40. I purchased 72 acres in Arizona where I am going to live out my days many of which will be spent shooting. Thanks again for this RUclips!
It's great hearing the true stories right from the man! I can hardly wait until the next class! I just got two of the open tops. By the way you shirt is flat out Bad Ass!! Maybe some day you could design a few more nice T-shirts
I love your cimarron pistol they are beautifully made Long live the cowboy guns I have not seen a cheap made one yet Please keep them original I bought the 357 and 45 love to get them out and show them off to friends everyone loves them Next one for me is that short double barrel to your right
Well, I think my second hand Model P is flippin' awesome. Hopefully Joey 'Too Nutz' won't mess up my getting another, but first hand Model P and an 1873 Short. ... all I need is a horse! ... scuse' me Hawse!
You are totally right about these "dress up gunwriters", Mike. a good example of that is in the Fall 2020 issue of GOTOW in the article about the Standard single action. It is reported in the article the reason behind ring around the cylinder is the cylinder wall being too thin. Everybody that knows anything about Colt type SAA knows that ring comes from incorrect timing of the bolt. Personally, I have bought my last copy of that magazine. Check that issue out because that writer states a few "facts" that just isn't so.
Thanks sir! GOTOW gets a lot of things right, but every once in a while something slips by. They do have some very good contributors, but they've got one or two that fudge some facts from time to time. Probably a higher percentage of truth in that paper than anywhere on the internet!! haha. We spend so much time putting out misinformation fires. Always the same people about the same stuff. So called "experts".
Excellent overview. Thank you as well. I own a number of your firearms without publishing the exact number. I am very happy with fit and finish too. Of course, the nickel finish guns are hard to beat for looks. If I were to suggest something or make a request ... I would love to have the option of getting a Cimarron 1873 Single Action Army with an upgraded or more expensive case harding to historical manufacturing processes and yes - you would have to charge several hundred dollars more than your current ones. Not a big deal; but there is a difference between the outrageous priced Colts and when you can find one and their high priced friends at Standard. Great job and thank you for making great guns too. Nothing better than Hopalong Cassidy’s rig or Have Gun Will Travel.
Brand new subscriber to the channel. I recently bought, new, one of your 7 1/2" Frontier revolvers in .357, and absolutely love it. I'm saving for a purchase of one of your Trapdoor 45-70 carbines, either new or used. Don't seem to see it on your website, but there seem to be plenty of them available online. I'll get one asap. Expect to love it as well.
Nice video! I make the same comparisons when i compare a new to an old Winchester. The lines that are "Art" are just not there in the new production. These were not just tools, they were and still are art.
It depends on how much work you want to do and how much the company puts into their kit. I'll never get a company made gun as nice and fitted to me as I can do. I put tons of hours into making my guns perfect for me.
Would love to see you make a M92 in 454 Casull/45 LC with a 24-26 inch barrel! I own a Rossi M92 in that caliber, but it only has a 16 inch barrel. Would LOVE to have a longer barrel in the same caliber. Please give this some serious consideration. Thanks
I love your guns. Hoping that the one I have my eye on is there still next payday. 357 cattlemen gen 1 race tuned gun fighter. If you have any recommendations on where I could locate one it would be much appreciated.

Yep!

@Frank Bohacek .... I have done a little research on a few different models of originals, but none pertaining to the history of the reproductions.

Could you possibly give the width measurement of the frame where the backstrap meets please? I know the full sized P frame is .88 inches across to accept the full sized grip. I cannot find the actual width of the smaller P Jr Frame. Thank You!
I love the history and have a Richards transition model so I will look for the video! Excellent channel...keep em coming!
I shoot my 1872 open top more than any other pistol in my collection. Thanks for it Mr. Harvey.
I have worked with many machinist that are wonderful artists!
I can’t wait to get a man with no name peacemaker! Beautiful guns!
I just purchased the cim ppp357n. What a beautiful gun.
I’m going to buy another Cimarron. The 1892 Cimarron made by Chiappa is as nice as the Miroku Winchesters. Next is a 1873 Army. Right up the road from my cousin inJohnson City.
Love my Evil Roy ! Thank you 🙏
Wonderful story and very interesting
Glad you took an interest. Hopefully someone will after you.
I hope one day I can get one of these great looking firearms. TY for sharing
Picking up my Custer 7th Cavalry tomorrow. Hope it meets expectations.
My cimmaron 7th calvary 1873 is not timed right, but what can I ask out of its price?
Thanks, very interesting.
These are beautiful pistols I would love to visit your store one day. In the meantime I’m going to buy a few Cimarron’s
Well, I'm sold.
Nice video! I make the same comparisons when i compare a new to an old Winchester. The lines that are "Art" are just not there in the new production. These were not just tools, they were and still are art.
Beatiful !!!!
It depends on how much work you want to do and how much the company puts into their kit. I'll never get a company made gun as nice and fitted to me as I can do. I put tons of hours into making my guns perfect for me.
Who'da thunk fake news would find its way into firearms journalism.
Would love to see you make a M92 in 454 Casull/45 LC with a 24-26 inch barrel! I own a Rossi M92 in that caliber, but it only has a 16 inch barrel. Would LOVE to have a longer barrel in the same caliber. Please give this some serious consideration. Thanks
Look forward to buying your guns! Thanks for the great video
Hell YA!!
I love your guns. Hoping that the one I have my eye on is there still next payday. 357 cattlemen gen 1 race tuned gun fighter. If you have any recommendations on where I could locate one it would be much appreciated.
