Yes, we can and we doing it in that way only. Updated 15.01.2024: When we added dettol other day, we don't face any problem, but when added Lizol, and kept for 4 days without cleaning it, so the colour of the reservoir changed to dark white colour.
They do not recommend using floor cleaner solutions or even tap water. Instead, you should use filtered or RO water in the reservoir. Using tap water or other cleaning solutions can cause white layering issues in the reservoir and block the small hole between the reservoir and the main unit.

What happen if there is unnoticed spilled water in the floor. Does it damage the product?
I guess it won't, but emptying the reservoir after every cleaning helps to avoid spills.
