Clancy Brown seriously doesn't get enough credit for his work. He instantly elevates anything he's in.
Absolutely
The one time Mr. Krabs doesn't cheap out
Totally agree!! Love Clancy Brown's work!! 👍
Not nearly as much as Todd Hawkeiser does
Maybe it's because his name is Clancy Brown
I love how when they yell “Cut!” Jesus’s feet come back to life and start scratching themselves 😂😂
That is funny! Probably not just because the extra that was on the cross had itchy feet. On purpose for its funniness. I hadn't noticed that. Thanks!
The extra missed breakfast and was starving for lunch. Itchy feet, ready to go eat.
It has to be said, Clancy Brown's support in this scene is excellent.
I love how this absolutely nails (no pun intended) Hollywood's Biblical movies of the 50's....something which,in my opinion, they could take a few lessons from.....I mean,seriously....who the hell thought it was a good idea to hire the director of *Requiem For A Dream* for a movie about Noah and the flood?
All Biblical movies should be directed by Mel Gibson
They do it also quite intelligently, and i love Ben Hur!
@@FrancoisDressler all religious movies should star James Franco 🤮
Noah was wacky but fun/creative.
I'm pretty sure this is poking fun at the biblical movies of that era. I'm sure the Coen Bros have a fondness for them, but to me this is playing up the more silly aspects of those movies' writing and dialogue.
Clancy Brown has so much presence as an actor that people who don't know who he is WANT to know who he is.
I love how "Hail Caesar!" (2016) makes fun of one of my all time favorite films, "Ben-Hur"(1959). If any of you have not seen director William Wyler's "Ben-Hur", it is a phenomenal film from my perspective! If you are transfixed by watching it, I recommend watching William Wyler's other amazing movies:
-"Wuthering Heights (1939) staring Laurence Olivier
-"Mrs. Miniver" (1942) staring Greer Garson
-"Detective Story" (1951) staring Kirk Douglas
-"Carrie" (1952) staring Laurence Olivier
-"The Children's Hour" (1961) staring Shirley MacLane
Obi-Wan Kenobi Thank you. I hope to read both books someday, which Wyler's movies are based on: "Wuthering Heights" (1847) and "Ben Hur" (1880). I saw the silent film version of "Ben Hur" years ago. I was not impressed. I thought the acting was corny, as well as the devine presence of Jesus. I am glad, however, you enjoyed the movie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi I do not think you need to apologize. You have your opinion. And I have my opinion. It was good talking to you as well.
Kind of going on a tangent here but are the Coens really making fun of Ben Hur? Or are they actually mourning films like Ben Hur? I feel like they yearn for the spiritual, edifying moments like the scene above (everything prior to the "cut!" that is.) But their yearning is ultimately cut short--they're unable to overcome their cynicism. Clooney wracking his mind to find "faith" is the anti-gravitational peak of the movie's arc, where the spell is broken and the Coens come crashing back down to grounded materialism, once again at spiritual sea level with Marcuse and his gang of communist screenwriters.
I saw the remake.
What did you think of the remake?
"You got most of it, man. You're all right."
I just realized the entire punchline for this scene (and the movie) is: You gotta "have" faith.
Why?
Cue the music and a somewhat respectable impersonation of George Michael
That’s the message Dutch tries to get across to Arthur
HAVE SOME GODDAMN FAITH!
Mr Krabs!
The Kurgan
Brother Justin!
"You've ruined the line boy-o!"
Lex Luthor
Dr. Neo Cortex
Best scene in the movie.
Would that it were so simple...
It's... complicated.
would that it'weeeeere so simple
It's awesome, but I really like the one with the priests
Are you a communist too?
This scene is totally amazing. While it's job is to poke fun at big screen bloopers of old, and Bible films of the 1950s, there's a LOT of Protestant Christianity in this, up to an including the point that most people can't/won't get, FAITH. Bravo!
Watch it again with the following in mind:
- Mannix plays the redeemer in this film. He saves deeply flawed people from the consequences of their sins. A *lot* of his scenes and character beats are lifted from Jesus of the Gospels.
- He has to make a choice as to whether to continue to do that hard work of a redeemer, or the (easier) work of bringing fiery destruction to the world.
- Tilda Swinton plays The Accuser, who seeks to destroy sinners. Narnia isn't the only place she plays the devil. ;)
@@jimluebke3869 woah that's cool, I'll have to watch it again now, maybe it was written that way to have the subtle message all along, thanks friend!
@@brandonsmith9098 Well the funny thing is that it's actually a communist message those kidnappers wrote in 😂. Re watch it . The film *is* strongly catholic though.
"a LOT of Protestant Christianity in this"
This is the Coen Brothers' Catholic film. Catholics agree with every bit of this scene.
@@tobiastorgerson5786 did you guys miss the scene with denominations and the rabbi? The movie is just a Christian movie.
Should have been the very last scene of the film.
And ended right on "you almost got it."
That final narration from Gambon could have played just before this scene.
1:32 Entire film crew getting hyped by speech.
First guy smashes it
"Why shouldn't God's anointed appear here, among these strange people"
I don't think it's an accident that the movie starts showing people from the "sun-drenched land" of Hollywod, when the dialog gets to "here, among these strange people". I don't know if I'd go so far as to call him "God's anointed", but Eddie Mannix does "shoulder their sins" and unquestioningly pays to ransom them.
You could fairly call Hollywood movies "A truth told not in words but in light", but I'm not sure I'd go so far as "A new truth, beyond the truth that we can see", but a lot of the metaphor holds up.
It's very beautiful.
I hope the lady at 1min 51sec got a cooked breakfast because her acting in that one second was truly awesome.
I wish a cut of the Hail Cesar film existed. 😅😅😅
I wish all the fake movies they showed were real!
Would that it were true.
If we had but... If we had but...
Cut, Faith had but Faith
Faith, FAITH, FAITH
Clancy Brown "Kurgan". Best ending scene, ever!!!
FAITH! ...Faith, what if it were so simple...
would that it t'were!
@@paulbali9998 Sorry, I'm no native speaker (nor writer)
@@paulbali9998 Say the line trippingly!
I’ll never be able to watch another biblical epic without hearing George Clooney say “FAITH, goddammit!” (Followed by Clancy Brown’s “Well, ya got most of it”)🤣🤣🤣
This was enchanting until the comical F up
It really goddamn is, which makes it so remarkable.
@Brandon Smith yeah because the main character is basically shouldering the sins of the entire studio. And it wears on him an insane amount, but he can't be slowed and can't be stopped 🤣 he is an absolute machine. All he knows how to do is work 24/7, solve problems constantly.
That was the point, and so well delivered.
I forgot how much i love this movie!
Wow that was beautiful! GC can act. 😀
2:17 Clancy Brown’s uncomfortable little glance cracks me up
Thats Kurgan beside him - Highlander
Sergeant Zim from _Starship Troopers_ and Mr. Krabs from _Spongebob Squarepants_ might be more famous roles these days, I don't see as many _Highlander_ references
Love when Clooney plays screwball comedy
God I love the score for this scene.
Ave true to Caesar
This movie is brilliant
He was doing pretty good there.
Is that...is that other actor the voice in skyrim?
clancy brown, i don't know if he's in skyrim, but knowing his work, he probably is
That's kurgan from Highlander
Not sure, but he *is* the drill sargent from Starship Troopers.
He also voices Mr. Krabs, Dr. Neo Cortex in the Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot games, and played Col. Schoonover in Daredevil Season 2/The Punisher Season 1.
He's one of the sadistic guards in 'The Shawshank Redemption'.
He's not credited, but I'm just about certain that's Michael Cera up on that cross.
Hank went deviant 😂
*looks at Jesus*
28 STAB WOUNDS!
Yup, best scene in the movie.
My favorite movie. A joy from start to finish.
Am I the only one who would live to see George Clooney and Clancy Brown play roman soldiers in an epic biblical movie?
i want to believe
It's true. The Christ is King. Look to the abundance of lies to hide this simple truth, that you are God's daughter. Does thou now believe on the Son of Man?
Clancy Brown is a centurion! The voice is perfect!
👍👏❤ from 🇮🇹
It’s a funny scene but it’s also very moving
Ladies and Gentlemen, Baird Whitlock!
Mr. Krabs
You mean the gods
No i do not
I guess seeing the truth of God is predicated on having faith first?
It’s wrong. In the beginning of the movie, there’s Saul of Tarsus, and he came years after Jesus cross.....
you're a dumbass. You realize almost no movie is shot in chronological order, right?
@@JohnLutherable No, friend... in the movie, they are reading the Screenplay, and they say: “ First scene is Saul of Taurus” . It ‘s not a Shot situation, but a screenplay one. I mean, have you watched Hail Caesar! ?
After rewatching this scene, I'm disappointed Clooney wasn't nominated for an Oscar for this role
Clooney did a great job here no doubt about it, but Josh Brolin was amazing.
Miguel Eduardo Sánchez tbf clooney didn’t really have much to do in the film except for sleeping and looking at other people, on the other hand brolin should’ve been atleast nominated
They changed it!!!!!😂
Very unrated movie
Almost made me want to go to church
I told you I would find you
No e visto esta película
Their names are "Italicus" and "Crockus"?
Attalicus and Gracchus.
Autolychus/Autolycus & Gracchus
👍👏❤ from 🇮🇹
..'love', Autolochus?
OMG HANK!!!!!!!!
This is the only film I've ever walked out of.
I feel bad for you
not enough cars exploding and one liners
It’s all there in your name.
Did you see UltraViolet in theaters?
Caesar portrayed by Clooney? LMAO. Didnt know the most important and whitest roman/european person of all time looked like a spaniard or greek. Next thing is Hitler portrayed by Antonio Banderas
Julius Caesar died 40 years before Jesus was born (give or take) Clooney is not playing him. And seeing that you are so ignorant I must tell you also that there were a few Emperors with ancestry in the Iberian Peninsula like Marcus Aurelius, or even born in it like Trajan.
Brandon Smith i just assumed from the three minutes i have seen in this video. It was an instant reaction only
Kwijiboz i just assumed when i Watched this short clip. Altough you cant compare an Iberian with a roman phenotipically speaking, i only reacted by impulse when i watched this video
Clooney was not playing a Roman, he was playing an actor in an era when melodrama took far more precedence over historical accuracy (or even solid guesswork).
What the...
