The engineering on this car is truly alien and, if you're uninitiated, it really does feel like you're piloting a spaceship. The combination of the brake button, super quick, self centering Diravi steering and hydropnuematic suspension ensures the SM drives like nothing else. Glad you enjoyed the videos! My Dad always wanted one of these, although he only got as far as a baby powder blue Dyane 6 - although that was also quite a quirky funky car in its own right. Love the design from the body shape to the interior & those dials! Citroen really were really distinctive design & engineering pioneers during this era 👌
Ahhh, the Dyane 6 is like a slightly more luxurious 2CV. I would love to own one! Citroen was an engineering driven company in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and its innovative design and features unfortunately did not translate into healthy profits. Peugeot ended up acquiring 90% of the company in 1976 but it was too late to reverse the quirky and lovely CX, perhaps the last of the great Citroens.
How in hell did that Citroën made it to the States! O_O Man, you surely have great taste. Look at that design, and those big green globes for the hydropneumatic suspension! That car was way a head of its time and looks beautiful! Cheers from the very South part of the continent, from a Citroën lover :D
Thank you for the kind words. This Citroen was in fact a US model - as evidenced by the US headlights and front clip - and is 100% legal. Citroen stopped selling cars in the US in 1973 due to the height adjustable suspension which couldn't meet fixed bumper height regulations.
Wow, I've known about the main dials being of that funky oval shape, but I've never seen the auxilliary indicators down to the lefff right I mean of course, D'OH... water temp, fuel and oil temp I'm guessing? Quite a unique layout there, too.
The SM is a spaceship. Thanks for the videos.

I love old Citroëns, even if I never had one myself. They are so weird, so unique, that they reflect a world that barely existed even back then.
Funny, every time I drive the SM, I say this car was surely designed and built by an alien civilization.

Exactly right. They are perfectly positioned for a quick glance during normal driving.
Hi. What is the flashing red indicator to the right of the warning cluster? Starts and sounds good.
The flashing red indicator is for the seat belt. Safety, even back in 1972!
I don't hear a buzzer in this video...what does the Citroen SM horn sound like?
Man, remember when cars used to be interesting? I don't, because i was born too late
Carry the torch forward my friend and help your generation remember why these cars were so interesting.
