It was cool ride for cruising. Not a fast car.
Have an order pending for a new 2025 230i ...really miss our former '19 230i...so yes, am voting with my wallet!
One of these ouvertook our car on holiday in Cornwall in 1973 was really moving, I never seen one on the road since 52 years thats a rare car.
Et c'est navigateurs se disent soucieux de l’écologique et laisser pourrire leurs bateaux dans un ports . Se que je voudrais savoir qui paye l’emplacement au port ?😮
So you’re finally starting to see why I’ve liked them all these years 🤣
Yikes Mike. What else could you have bought for $30k? A 2003 Audi RS6 perhaps. Maintenance with cars as you know it's either time or miles. You mentioned that your 3 year maintenance costs were just under $15k, what's the total miles since you purchased it. You have more dollar pain threshold than I have. With the exception of tires, since I do most of the maintenance work my self I cap out at $1000 per yearly maintenance costs. Anything above that, time to move on. It's miles for smiles, not miles for dollars. LOL
Hope all is well my man 💪🏽
Best vtec
SPOOOOOOON
Well said Michael. VTEC UNTIL I DIE.
Would be twice as cool if it was manual
Was considering this when I got my 2022 Mk8 GTI. If this was available in manual, I would've probably chosen this one over GTI
Let's go! 🦾🗿
Not sure I’d say a Golf or Impreza is a direct competitor given that neither are coupés.
Fair point. I was thinking more in terms of power output, size and price.
I still kind of regret not buying that 135i convertible a few years ago! Great video!
Lovely sound. And magic carpet ride....
and is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and its cars are nothing more than unreliable and meaningless junk....
It is a shame to see Citroen lost in the corporate labyrinth that is Stellantis, but I'm hopeful they find a way to stay relevant and reinvent the brand.
Spectacular car.
Having owned Peugeot 405GTxi, Peugeot 405GTxD, Peugeot 309GTi and a Renualt 18 Turbo in my time I can say I love a good fast Frenchie. The Peugeot chassis are fantastic and that old 309GTi used to go like a gokart round the twisties. (I also once had a renault 21 non-i that was so crap it doesn't even deserve a capital letter!) That's a lovely sounding Mi16 by the way. Rev happy wee engine!
Thank you, I do miss it and have seller's remorse on that one. I would love a 309GTi if I could find one stateside. Or a 205 or 206GTi.
@@autosnob Yeah I am fully in understanding with the seller-remorse! I try not to think about it as there are also Skyline GT-Rs and Honda NSXs in there too but they all paved the way for lots of other interesting hardware as I'm sure your Mi16 did too. Doesn't make it any easier though when you look back - luckily I only have pics and no video! I actually didn't know any of the older Pugs were available in North America at all - did you import the Mi16 yourself? Take care man :)
@@autosnob Another quick Q: was your the 4x4 Mi16 bud?
@ Mi16s were actually available in North America! It was one of the last Peugeots sold in this country before they pulled out in 1991. Very few North American Mi16s still remain on the road today.
@ North America never received the 4x4 Mi16 so mine was not.
8 days a week. Give me a Brit Jag over the Mercs and Beemers anyday. Especially the rotten older S-Classes, always go on the arches which is unacceptable from Mercedes. The lovely W123 aside.
I agree the W210 and W220 Mercedes were bad but X308s are not immune from the tin worm either.
NOT MY 911
But it could be.
I 😀 My 911
My neighbor's Boxster ate that shirt
These turbo motors drive better with the 8 speed zf.
I do like the ZF 8 speed and don’t miss the DCT. But I prefer the engagement of the manual. With better shift linkage it would be a home run.
Steering wheel 🛞 looking like early airbags
It does! Even the passenger glovebox looks like it should have an airbag. But no SM ever got airbags.
You can retro fit a modern Bosch alternator. Will help electrics a lot and the window regs
Great tip!
Apparently you pump the brake pedal for abs
My steering wheel blocks the turn signal indicator on the dash, which is annoying but the most lovely interior in the 228
There's definitely a few ergonomic misses but it's all part of the charm.
Mike check out DJI clip on microphones, will massively improve audio quality. Keep it up!
Thanks for the tip!
I have the 2001 vanden plas. It doesn't have the super charger which I would really like. I just dont know how difficult it would be to change that out.
Sell it. Get the XJR and don't look back.
@@autosnob The car I have is near mint condition with only 46K miles on it. I think it would be hard to find an XJR in this condition plus if I could get the super charger installed with the transmission I would have and XJR but it would be the Vanden Plas edition which would make it extremely rare. I think they made only 500 of them.
@@MasterHomebrew anything can be done with enough time, patience and money. But at the end you'll still have a not quite XJR. I've been down this rabbit hole with other cars and I've learned the hard way that it's better to start with the car you really want rather than try and create the car that it's never going to be. There are still low mileage XJRs out there, just be ready to buy when one pops up for sale.
I have one. Love it. But I'd love it more if it had a Tremec 6-speed manual 'box
It can be done! Check out @swallowsracing
Would be nice to see above the dashboard............
Francais Creature of 1972❤
Ferrari???
No this is a pre Ferrari Detomaso era Maserati
I think all were 5 speed, I had 420 1985, 5 speed, just very small difference between 4 and 5:)
In the US, most 430s and 228s I've seen had the ZF automatic.
These cars, if maintained are amazing…I had the X300 XJR6 and X308 XJR8…..change out the upper and lower pulleys, larger Intercooler and pump and she really moves….
I need to sample one with these mods.
Always found these completely stunning. I remember seeing a 430 for the first time in the mid-90s at a car auction in Bordentown, NJ. That interior was mind blowing, so much that I recall it like it was yesterday! The mid-80s through the mid-90s was such a special time for cars. Thanks for sharing.
It's funny because the inside of a 90s car that captured all my senses was the opposite of this 430. The cabin of the 1992 400E was so austere that I couldn't help but remember exactly how it looked, smelled and felt to the touch. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@autosnob I don't disagree with your 400E assessment either. What was so great about that period was that every car interior had a unique vibe, different smells, and materials. Each manufacturer had their own unique strategy. I always think about the Maseratis, the Mercedes, Jaguars, Volvos, Saabs of that era...all so interesting in their own right..probably with the US car being the least impressive of the time. Fast forward to today, and while many interiors of new cars, while definitely some interesting design elements, are really just variations of the same. The only cars that feel "special" to me these days are the hyper expensive.
@@dmcars147 I'm hopeful that car manufacturers will recognize a need to return to form and that not all things screens make a car special. Otherwise cars interiors will only be differentiated by software.
Beautiful car, very unique...i have to say im surprised they took the time to wrap everything in leather ....except the steering wheel cover....hmm...btw what are your thoughs on the tc by maserati?
Thank you! I haven't driven a TC but I will say it does share it's lovely leather seats with the Biturbos of that time.
Can easily imagine John Dillinger driving this one at speed!...I've got a 2007 XJ6, and I love it.
We didn't get the XJ6 in the States with that generation XJ - only V8s. Is this the same V6 found in the S Type?
It’s a great car but I won’t take it over the W210 E55.
That’s fair and having owned a few W210 E55s I can certainly understand your point of view. They are also great cars, in their own right.
Use to have a 98 XJR in beautiful British Racing Green for 11 years. Wonderful vehicle. Still miss driving it
1997 the true final edition of the XJ
I agree. I've owned many Jaguars over 40 years but my 97 X300 was the best of all, and the last proper XJ saloon. It was the final incarnation of the time-proven AJ6 engine. In my mind the only way I'll improve on that is getting the same year supercharged version, the XJR6. Maybe this year...
X306 is better but you’re close here
I haven't driven one, but I am intrigued. And it was available with.a manual!
Car used for a bank robbery - couldn't have said it better myself!
what I love about jag styling is they've always had the aesthetics of a leaping jag in their body shape. from the XK120 to the XF
Tuve uno es una joya
I just got 98 xjr, 65k miles, in British green.
Same here got a red 99 xjr had the e39 m5 as well, his point about the m5 is completely true it’s a hoot, 3rd gear power slides in the dry
