    Nice tutorial, liked the atmosphere effect, it's a shame cycles doesn't do the same bloom effect.. 1 point I need to make, as with every other planet tutorial on YT... NASA planet maps are all equirectangular maps and they are made specifically for UV spheres with the Environment Texture node,,,,then put them on Generated with Smart sphere mapping and it solves the pole pinching... no need for a cube sphere or UV mapping ;)

    Noticed that the tilt of the Earth axis should be 23.5° on the Delta Transformation so the spin is aligned to the correct axis...if not it would create a unrealistic "wobble"....tho the earth does wobble, but not that much.

      Depends on how and what you animate, but I also change rotation mode from XYZ Euler to XZY Euler. I also use a geonode "point" set to a radius for infinite resolution, where I map it using environment mapping with -1 in the x scale. Since points "look weird" in viewport, add a UV sphere and delete geometry/only faces for a wireframe representation of there sphere. Dunno if this approach works in Eevee, my Eevee is completely broken so I'm setting it up for Cycles. Edit: Missed "delta", I was working with regular transform.

      @@caribbeanchild I found the tutorial very fun and easy to follow, that was the only part I got stuck on and probably because I'm still very new. This was a great starting tutorial and way to learn nodes. Actually I learned a bit more and perhaps it was because I was on Eevee, not sure. I went and found the original tutorial he linked but still couldn't get my atmosphere to show blue like that.

    • @ammo793
      @ammo793  2 года назад

      Hi Marco, you can find all the maps in the description link. I cant remember the names now, but I think theyre something like "day" for difuse, "bathymetry" for the roughness,. You can use a normal map or the NASA "height" image as a bump map.
      If you find the files confusing on that visualearth website, just google earth+texture+maps and you will find multiples sources where to directly download difuse, specular, roughness and normal.

    I'm not really sure what it is, but the volumetrics just will not work. Either it's a cube or it's nothing. I think you're assuming a bit too much knowledge on the viewer's half.
    This tutorial is great, except that if you run into a block then there's no explanation and no understanding of how to move forward.

    • @Adrian-bn5tj
      @Adrian-bn5tj 2 года назад +1

      for example, the tutorial you linked to is for Cycles, but cycles doesn't support ShaderToRGB, so you can't use it
      I've looked my shader over and it's identical, so it must be some setting outside of the shader itself I'm missing.

    • @gokulcj
      @gokulcj 2 года назад

      @@Adrian-bn5tj I had the same issue. I figured it out by adjusting the "Multiply" node in the beginning. Try adjusting the 'Value' by either increasing or decreasing with the slider, and at some point, the cube will turn to nothing. That's the point you have to check. Just before it turns to nothing, it takes the spherical shape. There, you can adjust the values slightly. Then to fine tune, you can adjust the following 2 Coloramp nodes.

    Hi there! Thanks for the tutorial so far, but I have a SLIGHT problem. When I apply the atmosphere material, I get a cubic volume -> looks like a cube of blue fog around my Earth. Any idea, what I am doing wrong?

      add a gradient texture set to spherical, then add a mapping and texture coordinate, set the mapping location all to -0.5 thenadd a color ramp and clamp the sliders and put it into the density and scale up the sphere. hope this helps

    • @mve736
      @mve736 Год назад

      Probably a bit late, but I found a way around this that works in Blender 3.5. I'm a beginner so take with a grain of salt. ;)
      I noticed that by playing with the Multiply node on the left (i.e. the first starting from the left), the cube disappear at some point. In my case the cube vanishes from inside out, meaning that just before disappearing, we only barely see its corners. So my idea was to invert his process, i.e. make the cube vanish from outside in. For this I added an Invert node between the Multiply node on the left and the first ColoRamp node. Now if you play with the Multiply node again, the cube will vanish from outside in and this time just before disappearing, it will take the appropriate spherical shape corresponding roughly to what we see in the video. I can't explain why this is, but it seems to work.
      Bottom-line: just add an Invert node between the Multiply and first ColoRamp nodes on the left and voilà. :) I hope this helps a bit.

    • @TheSpacePlaceYT

      I found a way! Essentially, it is very very microscopic, but if you slowly move the first multiply node, you can see it take a spherical shape before dissapearing.
