Different thermometers tell different stories about the heat in Death Valley

- At Death Valley National Park, tourists queued for photos in front of a giant thermometer the National Park Service keeps near the visitor center. It’s not precise. It registers the temperature anywhere from 1 to 5 degrees Fahrenheit higher than more modern instruments kept by the National Weather Service nearby, providing a more impressive reading for pictures. Really who cares. It's hot in the summer big deal. Guess what Canada is cold in the winter?
@@Martin-mt3wz well its simple, if you dont care, then youve never had to deal with it. 🤣🤣 When its 115 outside and the transformer to your block explodes from the heat and you have no power, you have no choice but to care young one

Its crazy this place gets tourists.
It looks cool. 🤷🏻♂️
That's why it's been in a ton of movies despite being in the middle of nowhere.
I would only visit in cooler times
This place is amazing to visit in winter, I would not visit it between April and October. It’s just 🥵
I'd be kinda cautious of snakes😂
@@Homeskillete74Snakes are taking cover under rocks and dead tree branches to escape the sun and heat.
If you ever have the chance to visit Death Valley it’s an amazing place, just go during the winter. If you’re lucky it will rain and Kaleidoscope Canyon is amazing.
No thank you. The only reason i would go to to CA is to see wildfires.
Better yet just stay home and save your money. When it all crashes you're going to need it to really survive. And guess chances are that your house is going to get warm when you can't afford to pay the electric bill because you wanted to go somewhere that was hot. You'll have all of those comforts right in your own home.
@@JustLikeHeaven77 That’s a pretty cold heart. Tell that to someone who has lost everything in a fire or CDF, USFS, SAR or the many people who try and save lives and property. It’s laughs until it happens to you.

120° is Normal
It’s not normal. Average temperature have been getting hotter because of manmade gas pollution from companies, gas cars, and jets.
@@JDMimeTHEFIRST not true, that's what we've been told, but it's a lie. Earth disaster cycle incoming.
Death Valley is considered one of the most extreme environments in the world. The hottest temperature ever officially recorded on Earth was 134 F (56.67 C) in July 1913 in Death Valley, though some experts dispute that measurement and say the real record was 130 F (54.4 C), recorded there in July 2021.
Actually son, this is not normal even for Death Valley. Average for this time of year tops 116, their expecting 130+. Wrong again, but I expect you're used to that.
@@jamesg8365 I was reading On 13 September 2012 the World Meteorological Organisation disqualified the record for the highest recorded temperature, exactly 90 years after it had been established at El Azizia, Libya, with a measurement of 58°Celsius. The official highest recorded temperature is now 56.7°C (134°F), which was measured on 10 July 1913 at Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California, USA.'' So 136F was the record until 2012 when a group of organizations said it was based on faulty measurements basically. So 56.7°C (134°F), which was measured on 10 July 1913 Death Valley is the record.

It's a desert. What's the point of making a fuss of how hot it is in the desert? There must be actual news out there. Has AP checked?
Thank you, Ranger, for your service.
So it’s like the external air temp gauge on your car, you get in after several hours parked, and after a few minutes of driving, it adjusts to ambient air temp, and not radiated heat from the car, and the temp readout will drop by 8-10 degrees F.
i mean, not really. it drops because you're moving, not because thats the "ambient" air temp.
i understand why they say that its not the "official" temp, but what the radiant heat is what YOU would feel, even if in scientific terms its not the official heat.
It's only record since people been keeping record you don't no how hot it was,1000 years ago
Actually we know how hot it was not only 1000 years ago but millions of years ago. Because of something called science.
@ExtremeMadnessX no, you are making an educated guess. It's not like figuring out what gases were in the atmosphere or where there used to be water. It's hard to know what the temperature really was other than hot or cold.
@@Karamarika Actually, it can.
We can tell past temps from ice cores, tree rings, amount of sediment in rock layers from glaciers, layers of the ocean/lake floors, coral reefs, chemical proxy records, types of plants/animals in specific layers, etc. We don't have an hour by hour temp record of course. We do know the general climate for sure though. It's so much evidence that it's like saying germ theory is an educated guess lol

no water in hand. 128 degrees, you have to hydrate by the minute.
@@JustLikeHeaven77 it is the desert and all the concrete, metal, and the building that's got to be more than 10 degrees added right there. Everyone needs to drink more water, not dehydrating sodas, tea, coffee well a lot less of these.
It's dry heat. 95 degrees here in East Tennessee with 80 percent humidity has a heat index of 133 degrees

..Urban desert heat is an Alarmist friend...
It was 122f when I went out there and so help me i never felt heat like that. If I didn't have AC and water in my car I would have died. I don't even see how these folks are standing outside. I struggled to get from my air conditioned car into the air conditioned hotel.

Records aren’t broken. We haven’t been accurately measuring this but for MAYBE 100 years. It truly has been hotter and cooler over the last 10,000 years of the Ice Age we are exiting from.

i drove thru death valley a few summers ago with no ac thought i was gonna die
Well now, an apparent honest assessment of what is really happening.
At what temperature can people tolerate anymore? Like still be safe but at what heat that burns you enough they you can't stand anymore
I went thru Death Valley. It was 135 degrees. Furnace Creek is a bit cooler.
no it wasn't. the record high in the world is 134 in Death valley
and it's made hotter by all the concrete, didn't yall learn from when it hit 138 in the 20s?
They said the radiant heat makes it hotter.
You are wise.
You don't need concrete for that when the natural sand gets up to 201 degrees.
I visited in 1995, wait, JULY 95. Most brutal thing I ever experienced weather wise. Still a gorgeous, surreal place that's worth a visit.
The just admitted they fudge the numbers
include heliometer of sorts for irradiance, a pyranometer for the Solar energy
Why?
@@RichRich1955 thx for interest, the pyranometer is a means for measuring Sun's energy per unit area or irradiance. Since there various forms of energy, such as radiant & thermal, try to discern each & how affect temperature measured at that place. I believe hearing the Ranger briefly mention radiant & environment factors.

Tourists get to see the thermometer which is 2 deg too high, isn't that great. If you're going to show wrong temps just put +200 deg so they can get a cool picture for home and run to the local Museum to deface more artwork.

I saw a couple Millenials walking in Death Valley last week - 119 F and they were dragging a car door and about to collapse. I asked why they had the heavy car door and they said when it gets too hot they roll the window down
