AC Unity definitely blew me away, graphically. But Syndicate seemed to vibe harder than any other creed. The cobblestone roads, the street lamps, and the fogginess popped hard as heck at night, dusk, and dawn.
idk how to explain it, but in the older ACs, it felt like your character blended into the world more. They lost this with Odyssey, and it definitely started going off track with Origins. You can create a graphically great world but it doesn't land if it doesn't manage to capture that immersion.
Agreed AC Syndicate is very underrated indeed. However I do wish they'd remaster AC Unity now as I think that game can finally shine with the more powerful hardware features to handle those dense crowds (still the only game that makes it feel like you're moving in a dense city in my opinion). That version of Paris was awesome especially the lighting in the interiors really holds up not to mentioned the dedicated stealth button for the 1st time in the series. I'd really just tweak the slow/sluggish combat and that God awful QTE concluding boss fight.
@@CrabSully yeah, I didn’t get into Origins as I just couldn’t get into the character, setting, or story. I like Odyssey a lot but the grind was painstaking. I also didn’t like that you had to max out your armor to one shot assassinate NPCs. Graphically it’s beautiful but just doesn’t have the same spirit as the former games.
Horizon zero dawn and Days Gone have actually some really beautiful and realistic open world sceneries. These two games always made me pop up the screen recorder like , Ah man.
Love Days gone! It literally doesn't get enough respect for just how great a game it is. But everyone who has played it always says it's one of the best open world games they have played. Days gone and HZD are two of my favorite games.

Great list! Rdr2 is still the gold standard for open world games imo. I was also blown away by Hellblade when I first played it. Can't wait to see what Hellblade 2 will look like.
Hellblade is simply astounding, i'm baffled they included that freakish weird faces Until Dawn and no Hellblade, Until Dawn looked like animatronics trying too hard or glitching, Hellblade, well, you can't really tell if it was Senua or they implemented some sort of neurological wave that showed in your mind Melina Juergens doing exactly what you'd think she would do in the game by pressing the buttons/keys, as for RDR2, for me, it is the GOAT not only for graphics, but for the whole package, and he kept talking about it on consoles, that made my jimmies rustle, also the fact the it isn't number 1 on the list, since people TO THIS DAY use it to test GPU performances, my setup is an i9 10900k, GeForce RTX 3060 12gb and Corsair Vengeance 32gb(2x16) 3200mhz that i've built from 0 with excellent cooling(2x 120mm fans taking cold air, 3x 120mm fans expelling hot air), it runs every game between 45º~55º celsius(depends how hot the day is) on both CPU and GPU on Ultra or Very High(if the game doesn't have Ultra quality option) at 1080p WITHOUT overclocking, but RDR2? 60º~70º celsius on Ultra(again, no overclocking).
Watching these games' gameplay through RUclips doesn't do justice. You have to play it yourself to be able to truly appreciate the beautiful graphics they got. I'm still in awe looking at the landscapes of God of War and AC: Origins. It's just too beautiful
The Order 1886. I hold a special place in my heart for that game. Visually one of the most impressive video games. Yes, it was short, but in all. The story, gameplay, and visuals were enough to keep me coming back to play it again. Sucks we will never get a sequel.
Great vid. I think Witcher 3 deserves an honorable mention at least. Maybe not superbly polished, but the world design, details, and the "immersiveness" the world and the characters provide are mindblowing. Oh, yes, and weather - that deserves a video of its own.
I'm curious for the next-gen update of W3 🥰 I already played the game three times on PS4 but I recently bought it on PC and I'm waiting for the update to start playing again

@@flataffect The level gating sucks for a player who just wants to experience the main story quest i agree, but if you play doing the side content grinding is not necessary at all, it helps that the side content in Origins is pretty good (imo) but i definitely felt the gridding in Odyssey, that one went overboard with the side content and a good chunk of it i felt it wasn't as well thought out as in Origins.
I wholeheartedly agree with AC: Origins. For me, it was the first AC game I played and it's one of the very few games where I now have 100% on the main game and the expansions. I'm a casual gamer and I often don't go for 100% (I'm honestly happy if I can finish the main game), but Origins just kept calling to me and I wanted to explore everything. Agreed on this for sure. Chaos Theory is one of the best looking games on the original Xbox, even impressive compared to a lot of early 360 titles. The lighting & shadow effects are still great to this day.
Ryse of Rome was stupidly underrated if you ask me. not only graphics, but it was also hella fun; you really felt the fights and were part of intense battles
I felt that game was repetetive, linear on such an extreme scale that I have yet to come across any other games which is worse in that regard. But for the first couple of first hours, that game was amazing
Unity was downright mesmerizing for its time , paris is damn beautiful , historical buildings like the notre dame still look beautiful in 2022 ! And are not matched by anything . There was a rumour that a lady spend 2 years only on the notre dame. And damn did she did a good job
yeah it's true - and an incredible bonus is that because her model was so detailed, it's helping the teams rebuilding the cathedral after the horrible fire in 2019.
I think what this list proves is how damn groundbreaking and ahead of it’s time the previous console generation was. And that with the exception of frames, the new generation hasn’t exactly been a quantum leap in the graphics department. We may have just about reached the peak of what console graphics are capable of.
Wouldn't say it was ahead of its time. When they were released PCs were already capable of handling graphics like that for a longer time. It was a reasonable step and still felt smaller than the PS2/PS3 step. On the other hand, the new generation just didn't change that much then. But it's probably just the evolution of graphics. The new progress is just more subtle.
Just finished uncharted 4 and lost legacy on my pc and my mind is blown. This game has made me completely forget about tomb raider. Badly waiting for next uncharted instalment
There are so many : Driveclub (rip), Star Wars Battlefront 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gears 5, Forza Horizon 3, Need for Speed (2015) And many others, I'm forgetting so much of them for sure, I can't say them all.
Crysis OG and Crysis 3 still look mind-blowing to these days, with great lighting and texturing tech that most of the modern games are still not using.
I feel horizon zero dawn deserves a spot somewhere on the list. I took about 200 screenshots on my first playthrough of the game and it was just so stunning

Honorable mention to LA Noire. The facial animations were the best in gaming. It actually made you feel and think like a 1940s detective.
Yes, but to go back today you really see the limitations. The fact it's a slow, stuttering mess on PC without a 3rd party program is also a big knock in my opinion.

AC Unity definitely blew me away, graphically. But Syndicate seemed to vibe harder than any other creed. The cobblestone roads, the street lamps, and the fogginess popped hard as heck at night, dusk, and dawn.
Yeah, the city in Syndicate was stunning. So atmospheric, detailed and evocative.
idk how to explain it, but in the older ACs, it felt like your character blended into the world more.

And that with the exception of frames, the new generation hasn’t exactly been a quantum leap in the graphics department. We may have just about reached the peak of what console graphics are capable of.
Wouldn't say it was ahead of its time. When they were released PCs were already capable of handling graphics like that for a longer time.
