      I hope they do. Might be my next vehicle. I just worry about fords reliability currently. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they cancel it. That last year they made the Ranger (before bringing it back), Ford sold more Rangers than Mustangs. Their thinking was people will stick with Ford and buy the more expensive F150. What they did is bought Canyons, Colorados and Tacomas. Ford isn’t known for good decisions.

    I think I've watched 40 different "Towing with the Maverick!!" videos on RUclips and this is easily my favorite. Why? Because most of the others have some stupid premise, like "CAN IT TOW??" "CAN IT HANDLE 4K??" Just dumb! As if Ford would lie about its ability to tow, or lie about a tow rating. OF COURSE it can tow, and OF COURSE it can tow 4K properly equipped. DUH. But exceed the rating and see how it does? NOW THAT is a video worth watching.

    Flag to see it handled this load well. I am contemplating the maverick but was not sure if it would work for me as several times per year I need to move a 2100 pound mini excavator and my trailer is right around 1500 pounds itself. Now I know those 5 to 7 trips per year will be no problem.

    • @rmjones15
      @rmjones15 Год назад

      Did you end up getting it? If so, how has it been?

    • @alexmaclean1
      @alexmaclean1 Год назад +4

      @@rmjones15 I did, and it has been pretty much flawless. I found getting used to the smaller size vs my previous trucks didn't take very long, it was noticeably easier to park as well lol
      I've towed my baby excavator a few times since as well, right around 3500 pounds with the trailer and while it certainly notices the weight more than my Ram 1500 used to, it handles it just fine. If I had to tow that much daily I would stick to a half ton but it doesn't struggle by any means.
      The one issue that came up wasn't the trucks fault but it had a tire vibration that they could not get sorted out. Eventually the dealer concluded the one tire was simply defective from the factory. They covered replacing the tire and the problem went away with it. Just luck of the draw I guess. That was resolved at about 400 miles and it hasn't been back to the dealer since, except to do the first oil change at 1200 miles. It may have been a waste but since I was towing I felt better swapping out any initial break in particles or whatever. Going forward I'll stick closer to suggested intervals.
      Over all I give this thing a 9/10 it's been great and when not towing it gives me about the same fuel mileage as my wife's rav 4 lol

  • @Radarcb329
    @Radarcb329 2 года назад +4

    Why didn’t they use a weight distribution hitch like the Equalizer? Problem with towing is not the weight, it’s the stability from cross winds felt when passing big trucks.

    • @Sheepleton

      They weren't going that far and the truck outweighs the trailer. It was fine.

    • @ow-my-achilles1106
      @ow-my-achilles1106 Год назад +1

      Even more than that, if there's excessive tongue weight and the rear squat is a lot, this means brake/control is reduced at the front wheels. If tongue weight is more than half of max rated capacity and the rear end squats a lot, then a WD hitch should be used to correct it so control and braking is maintained.

  • @kingduckford
    @kingduckford Год назад +2

    That motor doesn't have a load of low end torque. The real reason it can pull is because it has very low gearing. All of these classes of trucks are all gears, not motor. The Crown Victoria weighs the same and has the same tow capacity, has a higher GVWR. If you hooked up your motor to the AOD 4 speed transmission of a Crown Vic of years past, your motor would pull itself apart with its turbo and high compression. That old 302 has less horsepower than your motor, but far more capacity to work and suffer heavy loads. You don't have loads of low end power or capacity in that motor, you have endless amounts of mechanical advantage with a low rear end final gear and super low gear first gears.
    Beyond "how confident it is pulling", keep an eye on that temperature gauge. It isn't just about how "sporty" if feels while doing work, but how how the differentials, gearbox, and motor are.

    • @kingduckford
      @kingduckford 7 месяцев назад

      @@lockandloadlikehell 3.81 for the towing package 2.0 turbo. 2.91 for the hybrid. An 80's Crown Victoria with 4,000 pound pulling capacity could have a 2.73 final gear. Keep in mind, that the 3.63 equipped final drive Maverick has more mechanical leverage in 4th gear than the Crown Victoria has in 1st gear.

      Biggest thing is being smart. Slowing and STOPPING is what matters most. If you overheat your brakes coming down hill you can LOSE your brakes and then you are fuxked. This is why trucks centered around towing have remote trailer brake controls and engine braking to help alleviate the stress on the trucks own brake system

    • @alexandnate1

      It would technically, because the non tow package Final drive is 3.63 versus the 4k tow package has a 3.8 final drive, effectively delivering more "wheel torque" per gear, but the engine still makes the same power.(About 5% more torque based on axle ratio)
