He was much more than just Bob Ross’ inspirational and technical master. He was a talented, fascinating, fun-loving, and spiritually-evolved individual in his own right; a great artist and a motivational pioneer, with a caring message.
I don't have words to describe my appreciation to Mr. Alexander, the love he put in to the paints is contagious, Thank you Mr. Alexander, you inspired me.
Bill was a man who lived well. He made you believe in yourself. I could have a miserable day and one episode of The Magic Of Oil Painting would snap me out of it.
Bob Ross DID give Bill Alexander credit for teaching him how to paint. Bob could paint, just like me..I also paint, however to learn those techniques that Bill employed is what was needed to make GREAT paintings. WET on WET paintings have been around since the 15 century from what I read, but Bill did create the idea of priming the canvas first. The magic white on the canvas first. I think later JESSO came out and it was much improved and that is what Bob Ross used. They were BOTH brilliant painters. I can paint fairly good. I could always draw as a kid and so on. But it takes me HOURS to complete one painting like they do in 30 minutes. They are the masters for sure. Thanks to RUclips , we can watch them forever
I do note some drastic differences between the two, though. Bill's paintings, from what i've seen, are often sharper and sometimes more detailed within the video's timeframe. But i think this is because he tends to work at his pace rather than the viewer's pace as Bob tended to. Bill is an incredibly adept painter, but Bob was able to teach it. Bill does a lot of explaining/talking as he creates, but Ross often will slow down or stop to show the exact brush movement he was making. They had different specialties, i think bill was better at creating/defining, but Bob was better at translating, and i think that's why Bob excelled with his tv series.
@@richardwright8189 "TV host and prolific painter Bob Ross studied under Alexander, from whom he learned his wet-on-wet technique, a method of painting rapidly using progressively thinner layers of oil paint. Ross dedicated the first episode of the second season of The Joy of Painting to Alexander, explaining that "Years ago, Bill taught me this fantastic technique, and I feel as though he gave me a precious gift, and I'd like to share that gift with you [the viewer]". As Ross's popularity grew, his relationship with Alexander became increasingly strained. In a 1991 interview with The New York Times, Alexander said of Ross, "He betrayed me. I invented 'wet on wet'. I trained him, and he is copying me -- what bothers me is not just that he betrayed me, but that he thinks he can do it better." -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Alexander_(painter)
I watched Bill Alexander's TV lessons so many years ago. Don't know why I searched his name today but it brings back good memories. I like his comments, such as "Fire in." He also used to say "very nice, very easy."
Some people will never be forgotten because of the gift they were to this world and Mr. Alexander and also Mr. Ross will never be forgotten because they made our world a better place. I miss them both dearly and am grateful I lived in the time of these great men.
I will gladly sit through a full 1-minute commercial to watch these videos. Please keep uploading full episodes. Monetize them with ads at the beginning. We would still be very grateful.
I had forgotten about this wonderful man..He was the first to paint with the two inch brush's..I learned his cabins way back when..lol still love this man.hope he's still around and painting clouds.:)
These take my breath away. Partly because Bill Anderson is very gifted and the love in his heart spills over to me. This love makes me have the desire to paint. I believe I CAN paint. Somehow, I know I WILL paint. His video makes me happy just to watch him. His video makes me hopeful. Blessings to you Bill Anderson. You are passing on God’s gifts that he bestowed upon you. Thank you.
I love his painting, I love how he teaches, encourages me....oh, but I also love that he TRULY understood, appreciated and spoke of how fortunate he was (& we ARE) to live freedom in the US!!
Fantastic to watch , just a Cabin out in the wilds and WOW , Bill just conjures up this wonderful tutorial like a ray of sunshine . You can only feel inspired to do a painting after watching Bill . This is awesome and thank you so much for sharing . I'm going to watch more of his videos , excellent .
I watched this guy on PBS in the 1980's when we had only 7 TV channels. Bang! No mercy! Magic white! Almighty fan brush. Fire it in! It's that easy. Done.
Yep...it's not rocket science. You have to remember, though, Bill painted for over forty years before he became a television celebrity. It's not as easy as Bill shows but with practice and patience you can paint, we promise!
I'll tell ya.... there's NO WAY , when I was watching this guy in the 70's on tv, did I EVER think I would , one day, be watching him , as a old fart myself, on my COMPUTER . Hahahaha A COMPUTER! Yeah, that thing that was as big as a house back in the day hahaha and he was SO old hahahaha. Who kbew?! 🤔
You are SO AWESOME Bill...I love watching you paint and sing too😄 Thank you for this painting. I paint in Acrylics because Oils trigger migraine headaches in me. I can use the same techniques in painting as you did here with the brushes. It's so great to see how much fun you have when you paint, good for you!!!
I hate to break it to you but... Born: April 2, 1915, East Prussia Died: January 24, 1997, Powell River, British Columbia, Canada He actually outlived his protege Bob Ross whom I would also suggest by three years despite his show airing much earlier
Is this man still around? I miss him. I started painting since 2015 because of him. He inspired me in the beginning. So fun and full of nostalgic feeling watching his arts.
Reyna HeriChan only in our hearts and on our screens. Bill passed away in 1997 but he continues to inspire people through the legacy he left behind. So glad he touched your life as well.
@@AAlexanderArt Oh i'm so sorry. I just came back to see painting videos again and i remember this man's video of Homestead who first brought me into this hobby in 2015 when i became so desperate after had a miscarriage. Palette knife is the first tool I ever had... 😁 After i asked that, i checked Wikipedia and i just found out that he passed away in 1997. O my God, im sorry. He surely was one of those shooting stars and i will live his afterglow for a long time.
i just love the old ramshackle shack look........one thing perhaps missing,,,.....some crows in the sky,,,flying em'ss i love the singing too.......very good....thanks
Bob Ross learned this technique and changed it up to make his variant. Bob's style is very photorealistic, Bill's is more in the style of the old masters.
I love them both. Bob's getting me back into painting but I'm hoping I can get back to Bill's style. I love impressionist painters. Bob's buildings are more simplistic while Bill's seem to have more realism. Both men are reminding me the most important part of painting is to have fun!😄
Dear professor, u're amazing, fantastic, wonderful so sympathic too u're magic to sum up u're too much I'm in admiration toward your person and your immense talent Are u sure u don't come from an other planet, an artistic one? Big keeses to u
No Mercy fire it in ! Amazing and much more offensive as the happy little clouds or the whispers of Bob Ross but both were so blessed may They Paint and fire the happy clouds in God's Paintings ;)
I love Ross and his voice is amazing but this guy is a much better painter lol I often found Bob Ross paintings a little child-like and their execution
He was much more than just Bob Ross’ inspirational and technical master. He was a talented, fascinating, fun-loving, and spiritually-evolved individual in his own right; a great artist and a motivational pioneer, with a caring message.
And a bit of a Nazi too ;)
Both Ross and Bill are wonderful people!!
I don't have words to describe my appreciation to Mr. Alexander, the love he put in to the paints is contagious, Thank you Mr. Alexander, you inspired me.
He was a mighty man.
I love watching Bill on Alexander Art. He's so cool. He makes me smile a lot while he is creating his paintings.
Bill was a man who lived well. He made you believe in yourself. I could have a miserable day and one episode of The Magic Of Oil Painting would snap me out of it.
Saludos desde Argentina, i like the houses...
I miss these days. Even though I was working 6 days a week, I always had a chance to watch him paint.
Almighty Alexander is the best. I watched him all the time as a kid. I am now an almighty artist. I love you bro!
You should never e v e r say something like this. Other folks decide that. And folks who claim to be "almighty" regularly are just lying . . .
What an incredibly talented man he was. He's been gone for so long but watching these videos brings me joy
He is not gone, he is here teaching us. What a privilege!
I learned as a boy to paint and draw watching Mr. Alexander. Now I'm 47 and a desiger and love watching this channel and hearing, "almighty brush!"
Im 12 and I like watching this! Bill inspired me to start painting!

Did Ross acknowledge Alexanders influence?

What an inspiration...Thank You Mr Alexander...Rest in Peace..

Thank you for the inspiration... Beautiful work!
Thank you Alexander
Love his sweet accent. Very beautiful paintings.
Love the way he described joyfully mixing his paint..."like a pig in manure". I wonder if Ross ever "borrowed" that line too.
It's great to watch the man who inspired the master! After much watching, I am inspired to "give it a go".
I enjoyed that very much. Masterfully done. ❤

Amazing!
I love how he keeps lapsing into just muttering "Home on the Range" to himself
WOWwwwwwww this guy is NICE. I love this painting.

Bill's catchphrase, “You can paint it any way you like!” :)
kxmode - and “Tanks for vatching me!”
Absolutely the best, funny, informative and a real master. I am so glad to have found Bill. One thing though, what is magic white?

Thinner white paint..do not mix with Gesso.. thin white paint down or buy magic white.

I like sooooo much. Sooo amusing but yet helpful for beginner like me
