J is the man. Unapologetically brilliant with a IDGAF attitude and a car man to the core. He has afforded the car life we all wish we'd had and he's clearly not finished yet. Sat in his big house, cars floating about everywhere, browsing the interesting bits in the classifieds, jump on a podcast like he belongs there all whilst smoking a tab. Cool as F. I adore that man.
I mean.... Are you kidding me? Jay Kay on the show really is a Christmas miracle! As a Jamiroquai fan in my teens to being a car enthusiast in my adult life... Jay has always been a legend of the UK car scene every bit as much as a legend of the British music scene. We don't get to hear from him anywhere near enough nowadays. The man is appreciated. Happy Christmas to all the listeners, and thanks for a wonderful year of these excellent shows, gentlemen! ---- Edit (because it's critical information) - Firstly, I would improve service stations by allowing drivers to pay at the pump with a card (as they've done in the US for many years). Put in the card, enter the pin, pump your petrol and the moment you click the nozzle back in it charges the card and you can f**k off without queueing inside. That would also prevent anyone just driving off and stealing petrol. I just don't understand why it's not a thing in the UK? Secondly; I just remembered the time I met Jay at a recording of Top of The Pops (the big hat and everything), and the man was a gent. Just in case I hadn't already aged myself enough. Alright, I'm done now.
Lovely post. But I have good news for you: we do have pay at pump by card in the UK. Often only one lane of pumps with that feature but we have it all over the place. I urge you to keep an eye out and enjoy the fulfilment of a dream realised.
Pay at pump is everywhere in the UK! I’d say at least 90% of places I fill up have it now. Station I went to on Wednesday only had pay at pump with no option to pay at the till
This was one of the funniest, most entertaining episodes. Everyone was on their A game, and Jay Kay was the icing on the cake - what an absolute legend!
Jay Kay’s ramblings were great and it proved he was worthy to be part of the “and friends”. If you do have other special guests in the future can they be as car nerdy as Jay Kay.
Why does Chris always try cut things short or worried about rambling, I think we would all agree we would be happy if it was another 15-20 minutes longer.
@cozza819 100% agree. It has to be some sort of contractual thing. Maybe the guys have hard outs at an hour? Or maybe it's the editor? Hard to say, but it feels like it's not an option to run longer...
I think the best compliment I can give this episode is that it feels like any other one, due to the seamless integration of Jay Kay into the group (he needs to be on every week!) still remember the great piece he did with Hammond and his red Miura back in TopGear’s hey day
Love listening to you all and seeing Jay. I feel like I have to squash and disguise my car passion for most parts of my daily life and I'm always conscious of what other people think. We are all more than a little aspergers really. Then I get in the car, listen to this and it's like being in the room with you guys. You are so lucky to be able to do this and it's so nice to be able to listen to it and hear people like Jay and Neal go down the rabbit holes and it being totally OK. This is such a rare thing.
Great show every week but absolutely brilliant this week. Jay Kays’s a proper car guy and very worthy addition. I second Rowan Atkinson for next guest!
Sorry Chris, I know you're going to get a lot of this now you've opened the "guest floodgates" I don't know what your working relationship is like with these people but I'd like to see them if you have a good relationship and they're willing to engage. (some are a stretch I know) -Alex brundle -Henry Catchpole -Harry Metcalf -LeBlanc -Vicki Butler I open suggestions and edits up in the comments. I will revisit and change my list according to who the CHOF community would like to see. Best regards
What a wonderful petrolhead to have a guest. Also so pleased Harry Metcalfe on his screen having Chris Harris and friends podcast in his McLaren 650S 6 month review. Would be great to see Harry on this as a guest sometime.
I’m shocked that no one has made that spoiler the Delta EVO 2 has for the GR Yaris yet. I’d also love to see if someone could make that escort cossie wing for one too
Exactly as he's not the sort of chap that will just agree with the group if he has a differing opinion. Plus he's not from an era of mega money racing drivers.
What a show, what a guest, loved this episode gents! Cosmic girl will always be in my mind, 3 amazing cars but that purple diablo was breathtaking. Wow!
Manish! I'm so glad you mentioned that horrible year at McLaren. I've got "forever memories" of that season. It was my first year at uni and I was doing motorsport engineering, so I'm making friends with all these car guys which is something I didn't have growing up. We're all talking about and watching the season together and big the thing that sticks with me as an Alonso fan, "GP2 engine, gp2!" And the car being "much e-slower than before". I still quote those radio messages on a regular basis. How upset Honda was at these comments was eye opening for me as the first time I saw the business and pr side of F1 and how important it is, without which the sport probably would exist or be as interesting.
Haha I was only just watching the old Top Gear episode where Jay Kay beats codpiece Cowell and now he's on the podcast, fantastic! True petrolhead and cool music. Thoroughly enjoyable episode this week fellas and thanks to Jay for being a great guest, and I'd probably have to go with "You Give Me Something" as my favourite Jamiroquai song.
Brilliant guest nerd today. The quartet works so well, but it's nice to have someone new who is knowledgeable and passionate about cars. Jay was at one of the first Kop Hill climb events when they restarted it about 15yrs ago. He was leaning against a BMW 2002 Turbo battering. He brought a couple of cars along to run up the hill and still does each year I believe
Loved this! JK is a musical and automotive legend. Great choice of guest and I think an occasional guest to the podcast would be a great idea going forward.
Props to Chris for the french hatchback combo with a 8000 or + revs Honda 1.6 or 1.8 90's engine. I would add the gear ratio of a Suzuki Swift M16A, it is very short for quick accelation but sacrifice top speed, which on twisty backroads you don't need anyway. 100HP/Litre NA engines from Honda for pretty mundane, but fun to drive daily cars are so characterful. Really great fun to cost ratio if you construct and engineer a combo of the chassis and rear axle of the Peugeot 306 with for example a B18C 98specR engine plus Honda gearbox with 4.39 final drive ratio. Or just buy a flippin Peugeot 306 Maxi if you got full pockets.
Campervans are best hired. Had some brilliant campervan holidays. One of the most memorable being 10 days around the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand
My favourite podcast and band collide, awesome! Well done Mr Harris on keeping this sub two hours, although I would happily have listened to more. Beyond excited for the tour next year Jay. See you in Manchester!!
What an absolute star guest.....an inspired choice, the breadth of knowledge, obvious passion & sheer humour will mean that needs to be repeated. Happy & peaceful to you all & to my fellow viewers & listeners
Fantastic as always chaps! Love the idea of petrol head guests coming on too. A suggestion for a two car garage: You are a recently retired WRC driver who has bowed out gracefully after a long reign at the top. Driving flat out through forests and down icy cols still gives an irreplaceable adrenaline rush, but life in the limelight has taken its toll. Craving peace and quiet, you buy a small cottage near Mishnish lochs on the Isle of Mull, just off the West Coast of Scotland. This new abode boasts a generous two car garage and sits alongside one of the island's famed rally stages. After being easily persuaded by a few locals in the pub down in Tobermory, you decide to keep the competitive fire burning with an annual entry to the Mull Rally. Following the sale of your Andorran apartment and Finnish lake house, you have £500,000 to buy a suitable rally car and a daily driver fit for some 'reconnaissance' for the upcoming rally. Choose wisely! My picks: Ex Burns/Auriol/Gronholm 206 WRC - Girardo and Co - £360,000 Toyota GR Yaris - £45,000 Keep up the great work! Love the show
Another excellent episode gentleman and arguably your fith member in JK. As folk have said, having genuine petrolhead guests every so often would be fantastic. I second Rowan Atkinson on an episode 👍
Ahh... the 90's hot hatch... Excellent pod, Jay an excellent and most welcome addition to the mix. Finally someone managed to shut Cooper up for a bit 😀
Should seriously consider bringing Jay in for a regular slot. Absolutely brilliant. He lives the car life most of us would love the luxury off doing. On the Merging of two cars. I'd love an Opel Manta GTE Coupe with a full GTR running gear fitted. Great work Chris. Keep it up.
Brilliant podcast. Perfect guest. Great vibe. Jamiroquai - nailing Gil Scott Heron’s The Bottle. The tune that got me into being a lifelong fan. Merry Xmas Boyz.
That road trip video of you all across Europe, has now gone many notches higher. Jay Kay is supercool and we all loved his music and his love of cars. You could link up on his global tour on his tour bus/ super duper camper.
Awesome session gents, thank you as always for the car-tainment, laughs and some time to switch-off. One of my happy places!!! Manish is 100% spot-on about Max and why he is like he is. Genius driver but without the class to be put in the 'true great' category at this stage. I don't blame him, he is the victim of his father, whose shithousery, bullying and living his life and bog standard racing career through his son has made Max what he is outside the cockpit. Let's hope Max's impending fatherhood helps change him for the better and creates even a sprinkling of the class Lewis oozes.
This is so great. My favorite thing to listen to while washing or working on my cars. Last week it was washing my 997 s in guards red,m and aerokit. Today it was doing the brakes in my Tacoma. Cool having Jamiroquai on. I get done and go to shut my phone off and take a closer look and see a familiar sighting. A little McIntosh piece in the background and what appears to be a Sonus Faber loudspeaker (I pair my McIntosh with B&Ws, but quite like the Sonus Faber and Wilson Audio with Mac). Nice!!! Now I get to send this msg to my dad, who always seemed to always listen to McIntosh and drive 911 and my brothers who also got to grow up with the same influence and taste 👌🏼
Well, yous all feel like a bunch of lovely uncles that I always wanted to have 😅. You guys keep delivering episode after episode after episode... Marvellous, it just makes my day every time!
Regarding the clicker in the uk I stick my filler cap under the handle , it works a treat . Do t let them see you do it though they will Shout at you over the Tannoy 😂
Fantastic episode as always! Chris if you want to see French hot hatches with vtec engines head to any budget trackday. The amount of 106/206/cliosport cars now using K20 engines is crazy!
Definitely one of the first things I thought when the campervan talk came through... "It needs to have a trailer out the back with a good car on it" because doing all that driving only to come across a great piece of road for which you are stuck in a mobile home would be unbearable. Or your campervan is a race car with enough room in it for a 6' mat and you are not in the position Neil spoke of where you aspire for a life you do not have. This podcast is excellent. Jay fits in like a glove with the usual quartet vibe.
Rowan Atkinson for next guest! Great to hear and see J
Foly huck, yes please !!!
Rowan is painfully shy and doesn’t like appearing as Rowan
that would be the dream
Love that idea; but I’m afraid Fip999 is right. I do seem to remember having seen Harris together on some couch with Atkinson being interviewed…
Harry Metcalfe
J is the man. Unapologetically brilliant with a IDGAF attitude and a car man to the core. He has afforded the car life we all wish we'd had and he's clearly not finished yet. Sat in his big house, cars floating about everywhere, browsing the interesting bits in the classifieds, jump on a podcast like he belongs there all whilst smoking a tab. Cool as F. I adore that man.

Happy Christmas to all the listeners, and thanks for a wonderful year of these excellent shows, gentlemen!

Edit (because it's critical information) - Firstly, I would improve service stations by allowing drivers to pay at the pump with a card (as they've done in the US for many years).
Yep. BP have their own app (i think the others do too). I use the BP app to pay all the time. No need to queue in the supermarket to pay at the end. 👏
This was one of the funniest, most entertaining episodes. Everyone was on their A game, and Jay Kay was the icing on the cake - what an absolute legend!
Jay Kay’s ramblings were great and it proved he was worthy to be part of the “and friends”. If you do have other special guests in the future can they be as car nerdy as Jay Kay.
hmmm think it was rather annoying how he kept cutting everyone off
@georgesj9536 they cut each other off all the time, he's an excited car nerd. Enjoy the energy
Cooper is getting a dose of his own medicine when JK... The man can talk lol
exactly what I thought 😂 he didn't get a word in!!
Glorious stuff
Why does Chris always try cut things short or worried about rambling, I think we would all agree we would be happy if it was another 15-20 minutes longer.
@cozza819 100% agree. It has to be some sort of contractual thing. Maybe the guys have hard outs at an hour? Or maybe it's the editor? Hard to say, but it feels like it's not an option to run longer...
@@cromulentparty It really was hilarious to watch him have to experience the thing he always does - and JK "pulled the Cooper" so perfectly lol
Jay Kay as a guest amazing. Didn’t think this pod cast could get better. Love it guys thanks.
I think the best compliment I can give this episode is that it feels like any other one, due to the seamless integration of Jay Kay into the group (he needs to be on every week!) still remember the great piece he did with Hammond and his red Miura back in TopGear’s hey day
Jay should be a recurring guest
I reckon a guest, every now and again, is a great idea. But the guest has to be a proper bloke and a proper wheelman.
Or woman
Bashir al-Assad? 😏
Yeah .. that is where Top Gear got it wrong.
Having guests because they were famous rather than car people .
And some presenters .
Well they hit it out of the park for the inauguration!
Damon Hill, James May, Eric Clapton, Guy Berryman, Keith Moon and Pete Townsend please 😂
Just Great. Jay really fits in well! Always loved his music (and videos) and style - what a great suprise!
Can we have a video of you all checking out Manish’s 456 when it’s finished?
@ My dear friend Jennifer thanks for the lovely sentiment.
You have to give Jay K one thing, he and his band made music that is truly timeless. He has fans across every age group. It's a very rare thing
What an absolutely mega guest! Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good drive!
Brilliant 🎄🤘
Rowan Atkinson, Jonny Smith, Tiff, I’d love to see these car legends feature as a guest some time!
Love listening to you all and seeing Jay. I feel like I have to squash and disguise my car passion for most parts of my daily life and I'm always conscious of what other people think. Can we have Tiff or Damon Hill on sometime, please?
I don't think Tiff is a car guy to this level. Would still be a good pod though
Great show every week but absolutely brilliant this week. Jay Kays’s a proper car guy and very worthy addition. I second Rowan Atkinson for next guest!
great Talk, Jay k is a proper geek. Rowan would be a good one
Neil's brilliant shirt "Monaco 4452" is the original license plane from Alain Delon's 250 California Spyder SWB, Sn2935
Sorry Chris, I know you're going to get a lot of this now you've opened the "guest floodgates"

Jay Kay is a class act, and a great guest. Thanks for having him on. I haven't seen him since top gear.
The car podcast with JK and friends.
That man makes Chris Cooper look quiet 🤣
In that case Jay, I'm grafting two GR Yaris' to make a modern day Integrale.
I’m shocked that no one has made that spoiler the Delta EVO 2 has for the GR Yaris yet.
I’d also love to see if someone could make that escort cossie wing for one too
Yes!🎉🎉@HowToSpec
@ the GR Yaris in ford imperial blue, escort cossie wheels with that wing would be perfect
I love how Jay keeps the conversation going, making this a longer episode. Brilliant!
great edit work to show all cars mentioned. getting better!
Fantastic guest, I love his music and his cars… a combination hard to beat! Thanks for another banger
Make Jay a regular. He's an absolute hoot. I also want the rundown on Neil's Collecting Cars dig!
Yes, we accept Jay as a new member. Please include him weekly, thankyou.
Tiff would be a great post-xmas guest!
Exactly as he's not the sort of chap that will just agree with the group if he has a differing opinion. Plus he's not from an era of mega money racing drivers.
Fan-bloody-tastic!!! My favourite show AND favourite musician. What a start to my Friday. (More Jay please)
This time it seems Jay was the only one having a drink ;) What a fucking COOL GUEST Loved it. Merry Christmas x
Hmm, that looks like a Macintosh amp lurking behind Jay Kay , nice , very nice .👍🏻
What a show, what a guest, loved this episode gents! Cosmic girl will always be in my mind, 3 amazing cars but that purple diablo was breathtaking. Wow!

J needs to become a permanent fixture, great episode guys
Brilliant guest nerd today. The quartet works so well, but it's nice to have someone new who is knowledgeable and passionate about cars. Very entertaining watch. Great chat and a right good laugh. Gonna pay more attention to Porsche handles from now on...
I like Jay Kay, but his mention of a Matra Rancho has elevated him further. Always wanted one and my favourite leftfield choice.
Renault 5 Gordini! 205 GTI 1.9. Both fun! Citroen SM is the best French coupe from the old days.
Fantastic - has taken me until Monday to finish but what a podcast guys, epic banter..!
My favourite podcast and band collide, awesome! Well done Mr Harris on keeping this sub two hours, although I would happily have listened to more. Beyond excited for the tour next year Jay. See you in Manchester!!
He has to come back - fantastically good banter between all of you!

Fantastic as always chaps! Love the idea of petrol head guests coming on too.
A suggestion for a two car garage:
You are a recently retired WRC driver who has bowed out gracefully after a long reign at the top. Driving flat out through forests and down icy cols still gives an irreplaceable adrenaline rush, but life in the limelight has taken its toll. Craving peace and quiet, you buy a small cottage near Mishnish lochs on the Isle of Mull, just off the West Coast of Scotland. My picks:
Ex Burns/Auriol/Gronholm 206 WRC - Girardo and Co - £360,000
Toyota GR Yaris - £45,000
Keep up the great work! Love the show
My favourite part of the week made better by a under appreciated living legend !!
Another excellent episode gentleman and arguably your fith member in JK.
As folk have said, having genuine petrolhead guests every so often would be fantastic. I second Rowan Atkinson on an episode 👍
Thanks for the suggestions for my 2CG. I'll pick Jay's Matra and Chris' Aston because I all ready have the "little green land rover lightweight".
Got to merge the excellent 1982-87 Alfa Romeo GTV6 with the overblown reputation of anything German.
Jay was awesome, what a Christmas gift of a pod!
My Aston Martin choice to increase in value would be the V8 Vantage Spitfire edition. Love the the guest 👏🏻
This is glorious, can we have Jay every week (when he's not on tour ) pretty please, Chris ? 👍👍👏👏
What a perfect addition to the gang.
A quintessential petrol-head. Bravo!
Have a great Christmas, one and all.
Ahh... the 90's hot hatch... Excellent pod, Jay an excellent and most welcome addition to the mix. Finally someone managed to shut Cooper up for a bit 😀
This is fantastic, thanks for sorting this Mr Harris, Jay Kay is a legend 👍
This pod was good and helped make my day. All of the pod attendees are total legends in their own, [BMW] individual way
Couldn’t have imagined a better guest star. Jay is a superb addition, I’m here for the ride! Let’s go.
This was absolutely fucking amazing . Jay fit RIGHT in and was a hysterical and charming addition . Perhaps an annual repeat appearance !?!?
Should seriously consider bringing Jay in for a regular slot. Absolutely brilliant. He lives the car life most of us would love the luxury off doing. On the Merging of two cars. I'd love an Opel Manta GTE Coupe with a full GTR running gear fitted. Great work Chris. Keep it up.
Really great podcast, entertaining from start to finish!
Brilliant podcast. Perfect guest. Great vibe. Jamiroquai - nailing Gil Scott Heron’s The Bottle. The tune that got me into being a lifelong fan. Merry Xmas Boyz.
saying the 928gts being the best looking all time explains the big eye glasses
Mr Clifford is definitely a man who humms his own tune isn't he? 😂 Much respect for being an individual though.
On the clicker-use the petrol cap and wedge it into the handle to hold the trigger. Stand back and watch!
I cried tears from laughter. You guys have outdone yourself with this one. Chapeau
The Morales mix of Space Cowboy is a great tune. Always a winner in a mix
Jay Kay in an Up GTi singing Half the Man, life couldn't get much better than that for me 😍
My amalgamation (because I've driven one and it was terrifying) is a mk1 MX5 with RX7 twin turbo running gear.
That road trip video of you all across Europe, has now gone many notches higher. Jay Kay is supercool and we all loved his music and his love of cars.
You could link up on his global tour on his tour bus/ super duper camper.
Awesome episode, gentlemen! Love this (even) longer format.
Lovely special. Giggled and enjoyed the whole show. What a guest.
What an absolute treat, my favourite podcast by a huge margin and to have a guest like Jay on is just a cherry on top 🍒
You guys are brilliant And on this pc you have smashed it even further. Thank you
Awesome session gents, thank you as always for the car-tainment, laughs and some time to switch-off. One of my happy places!!!
Manish is 100% spot-on about Max and why he is like he is. Genius driver but without the class to be put in the 'true great' category at this stage.
Great dynamics and great energy today it was a pleasure to watch. Merry Christmas to all of you and a happy New Year to you and all your family.
Jay with his Mcintosh stereo by the look of it.
Nice Sonus Faber speakers too.
What.
A.
LEGEND!!
Best podcast ever, friggin fantastic! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
What a way to launch a guest series! We all need to hear Jay talk about cars!
Best bit: 32.50 when JK lights one up.
As Cooper rage quits the convo
God do I hope this podcast never ends
This is a fucking flex lads.... Wow. Much love for this one, and to the legend himself...
928/TDF hybrid great shout!
Getting JK on!
Thank you!
what a wonderful addition he was!
This just worked so well, loved it even more than usual. Well done chaps 😂
Aston. Buy a Cygnet for 25k and with the 175k buy a 720s Maclaren. Or buy a GTR R35 for 70k plus a Amg GT similar price and keep the change.
Well, yous all feel like a bunch of lovely uncles that I always wanted to have 😅. You guys keep delivering episode after episode after episode... Marvellous, it just makes my day every time!
Regarding the clicker in the uk I stick my filler cap under the handle , it works a treat .
Do t let them see you do it though they will
Shout at you over the Tannoy 😂
Fantastic episode as always! Chris if you want to see French hot hatches with vtec engines head to any budget trackday. The amount of 106/206/cliosport cars now using K20 engines is crazy!
EVERY nanosecond of this was pure pure joy.
Paul Daniels was my neighbour in Holland Park when he had a Ferrari 328 with the number plate MAG 1C
Definitely one of the first things I thought when the campervan talk came through... Jay fits in like a glove with the usual quartet vibe.
What a bloody great Christmas present. Always enjoy geeking out listening to you guys and JK fitted in perfectly.
Is this real life, or am I dreaming??
Just got to the AM bit, I was at Castle Combe when Rowan raced his red Zagato.
