    I believe you two are in love. Sometimes I wonder if couples are really there for eachother or if they're just swept up in the excitement. You know like, "this is really easy making everything about ourselves! We get so much attention for spending our money! We love showing off all our stuff to all our friends!" Etc. What I like to see more of is, "we really like eachother. We thought this through. We're committed to eachother. We talk and communicate everyday. We are in love." And I think you two are on the right track. Congratulations!

    In the process of planning our British-Mauritian fusion wedding, this was useful! Though it's definitely harder to plan the stuff we want to do in Mauritius as quite an untraditional couple and 50 max guests!

    In terms of getting married, apart from the delay it caused, covid also helped with my wedding. I am American and my husband is Scottish, and having to have a traditional wedding so the legitimacy of our relationship wasn't questioned was giving me anxiety, because a wedding is just so unimportant to me. We got married at the council building with his mum and gran for witnesses, and to video it so my family could see, and it was such a relief. I have so much respect for people who have the vision and drive to make these things happen. You keep talking about how you wanted simple and small, but I'd have had panic attacks trying to put your beautiful day together, even with having so many supportive people helping make it happen. It's so neat to see and learn about what went into it, and the results must be so satisfying to look back on. From what you've posted of it, your personalities are there in every detail. Congrats!

    I love that you guys are so honest an open!
    My actual wedding (special circumstances lockdown) cost about £3000 everything included.
    Then probably another £1000 14 months later (was supposed to be 12 months but we both had covid on our one year anniversary) for a smallish party.
    However we had 2 cakes that were both gifted to us by different people! So we saved a ton there.

    The most expensive part of our wedding was just getting me there, after BA cancelled my flight at the last minute. 😄 A piece of advice one of our guests gave boiled down to “don’t eat stale cake”; i.e., enjoy that wedding cake now instead of after it’s been in the freezer for a year. You can buy new cake for your anniversary! And buying cake is a perfect couple bonding activity, if you ask me.

    Having planned my wedding last year, it's really interesting to hear you break down the costs for your day and how you made your decisions. It's always lovely to get to know the things that each couple cares about in their wedding.
    Another huge factor in venue costs that I think it's important to mention is the area where you get married. Some of the venues I looked at in the metro area where I live were five times the cost or more compared similar venues in more rural areas.

    Hell yes! Thank you for making this kind of wedding content! Honest wedding cost videos are so needed! My husband and I got married last year and spent about $6,000 US but we DIY'ed like everything. I made all of the decor and centerpieces (crochet'ed flowers) and catered it. The only thing we didn't DIY were our outfits.

      There's no such thing as a constitution in the UK, but we do have laws against discrimination. Race, religion, sexual orientation and gender reassignment all belong to what's known as "protected characteristics" (as well as some others) - basically it's illegal to discriminate against anyone for any of those characteristics, and if you can prove you have been denied a service or made to pay more (etc) because of them, then it's illegal and you could sue

    Interesting to compare with my own wedding, which wasn't in the UK. Everything cost the same, but in our local currency. So it was 1000 for the photographer, for example. Though, cakes are VERY expensive, and flowers too. My husband wanted real flowers, so that inflated the cost a little bit, but it can really range. Heard from other brides in my home country flowers can go for upwards of 3k, which I think is crazy

    Aww y’all have been talking about the wedding for so long and it’s so nice to see you finally enjoy it 😭😭
    Question: why do y’all refer to south Asian/Desi things as Asian? I mean that’s not wrong to say hahaha but I am used to speaking a little bit more specifically about being Indian/desi or even specifically where I’m from in India

    • @Cascadeis
      @Cascadeis Год назад +2

      I’ve been wondering this a lot as well! I know close to nothing about where Shaaba’s roots are, but I know a lot more about Chniese, Korean and Japanese culture so whenever she says “Asian” I think “no it’s not, is it?” 😂

    • @Robb3636
      @Robb3636 Год назад +1

      @@Cascadeis I think because her family are from Mauritius, which is actually in Africa, but the population living there are overwhelmingly from India, Pakistan and the like, but she doesn't come from a specific place in Asia, so when referring to her cultural roots the non-specific 'Asian' works. Plus, in Britain (where both she, and I are from) we have a very high population of Indian and Pakistani people, so if a British person refers to an Asian person, statistically they'll be from that ethnic group. It's more of a recent and Americanised thing to say 'Asian' and mean Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.

      Here (Australia) Celebrants are licenced, civil, 'authorities' that can legally marry you, prices vary a lot, and there are those who specialise - cultural, spiritual, some *won't* marry queer couples, others specialise in it.
      It's the person you get to do it if you don't want a priest, though (obviously) your spirituality can still play as large or small a part as you and your celebrant wish.
