My dad was diagnosed with brain cancer this June and is currently dying. The way you love your parents, is the way I love mine. This has been incredibly heartbreaking to say the least. I started a garden (inspired by you, of course) over a year ago. My landscape is lush and beautiful. My dad spent many hours in my yard talking about life and his love for his family. He was always impressed by all the things I built and grew. Your videos have peeled me off the floor many times and motivated me to continue working in my yard. Thank you for being a light during my darkest days 💜 -Michele
I know I've become an official Garden Answer addict when I get up early on a Saturday morning with just one thought in mind - I'm off work today and I get to watch Laura first thing in the morning instead of late in the evening! Now that is getting your day started off right.
My dogs and I watch your videos every morning before we get out of bed. They are a fantastic, joyful way to start my day! 🤗 Somewhere along the line, my dogs have figured out that when Laura says, "see you in the next one", it's time to get up. They jump out of bed, shake, stretch, and I do, too!!! Thank you for your bright smile and positivity!
I had a cat that would come running to sit with me when she heard the trumpets from CBS Sunday Morning. Now mine stay in bed with me until GA is over. Pets learn quickly their human's habits.
My mom & I watch everyday! We love your channel! It’s my daily motivator! Even though we are in Oklahoma and definitely not the same zone, I have learned so much! I’m also a therapist and have recommended your show to patients as a motivation and self care. Thank you for inviting us into your life each day! Thank you also for being such a positive, wholesome place for us in this busy, chaotic world!
Beautiful swag! I love how you used what you had. You make project easy and accessible for everyone. Did anyone else hear her say "rustle" and immediately think of Russell? 😺 He always seems to work his way into videos, even when he's not around. 😁
Spray your berry branches with hairspray to make the berries more stable and less likely to drop off. Hairspray also keeps the evergreens from shedding. ☺️
@@insideout8814 Spray with Wilt Stop. It will help quite a bit. Of course it will last longer outside (inside heat dries things out fast!) But my indoor decor has lasted a few weeks indoor with WS. Outdoor pots lasted most of the winter.
love how pretty it is. You could tie some jungle bells on some skinny ribbon and hang it in the middle of the big ribbon and Benjamin would get to hear it when you open the door.
But be careful about bringing them into the house, I got pantry moths last year from cinnamon pinecones. Maybe put them in a 0 degree freezer for a few days first to kill any bugs.
So pretty, and got my imagination going. So easy to take this idea and run with it, depending on what you have available. You could add different ornaments, bells, battery powered lights, etc. my mind is racing!! Thanks for that, Laura! I love what you do!!!💚💚💚❤️💚❤️
Waking up at 4 a.m. on a Saturday isn't fun. Fortunately, I have a new episode of Garden Answer to watch to distract me from my racing thoughts. Thank you for your delightful videos. They truly provide joy when I'm stressed. The swag is lovely. I think I'll make one for my front door this year. 🙂
All my years and so many wreaths wags and garlands, I’ve never done with a single rope! Learn something new every day and they are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing! ❤️💚
Your timing is perfect. My swags finally gave up the ghost and I had to toss them. I was pondering what to do. Now I know. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I have a couple of pine trees in my yard and this time of year the cones drop profusely here in Georgia. What better way to use them than to make a simple swag for my front door. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I won’t have to buy a thing cause I already have everything I need on hand and more. Blessings to you and your family!
But how do you get bugs out? I live in GA, too, and tried it last year. I brought a host of tiny bugs in my house! Apparently they winter inside pine cones.
Thanks, Laura, for the instructions for a fun project. I set up to do this project for me and my daughter with pine scented candles, hot buttered rums and Celtic music! So fun! Tip for all of you out there who have very sappy cones like I do. I pick the cones up from our white pine tree (with gloves to protect hands from sap that hardly wants to come off!) I place them on cookie sheets with thick layers of newspaper under the cones and place them in the oven for a couple of hours at the lowest oven temp- 200 degrees in mine. After a few hours the sap has coated the pine cones like shellac and the excess has dripped off into the newspaper. The cones are sticky no more and beautiful with a rich, slightly shiny glow.
Those a so stinking cool and so not what I imagine at the beginning and easy enough even I could do it! My inner faery was crying a little though because there was no glitter ✨ on the pine cone 😂 .... the options with the basic structure are endless and you could do the same thing with all kinds materials for any season or holiday.. I just love 💕 it! Laura is so creative and comes up with ideas for us that are attainable and not complicated.
Good morning, Laura ☕️ Those turned out beautiful. However, not as gorgeous as your diamond 💍!! Definitely going to attempt to make this! Thanks 🙏🏻 Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
Hey Laura!! Thanks for the amazing and inspiring work! I’m a young gardener and you have inspired me to do great things to help the Agriculture Industry grow! I came across you 5 yrs ago and I’m 14 yrs old right now! You have inspired me to start my own channel Ultimate Gardening and teach my generation and ones ahead of me to get their hands in the dirt! Thank you Laura!💚✨🌿
I’m happy for you to have your own channel, but it’s bad manners to keep posting this information over and over to get more subscribers. If your content is good enough, you will get subscribers, it just might take a little while. Hang in there and so the hard work to get where you want to be, just like Laura and Aaron have done.
Simple but gorgeous !!! I can’t remember EVER seeing a pine cone swag before and I live in Wisconsin. This is a wonderful eco-friendly, inexpensive project that’s right up there on my list of Christmas to-dos this year. Thanks so much for introducing me to something new and beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your sweet family. 🥰
I couldn't agree more with Laura, they definitely fit better on these door. The ribbon made it all. Can they tolerate battery operated Christmas lights??? I can imagine they would look spectacular 😍.
Morning!! Yes, they do!! Just wire the battery pack behind the ribbon and greens and you don't see it. I used the little teeny lights last year and they looked awesome! Happy holidays!!
If you’re collecting pine ones, soak in a vinegar/water mixture for about 30 minutes to kill any bugs. Bake in the oven at 250 for about 30 minutes until they are open. Once cooled, place in plastic bag and shake to release all the seeds.
What a pretty idea! I like it very much! I also appreciate that pretty bling 💍 you have there! Was someone treated with a beautiful anniversary gift? Anyway, both are very pretty & thank you for sharing. I was also hoping you might do a bird feeding video this winter. I know you’ve done them before but I like it & am interested in how you will be feeding them this winter. Thank you 😊♥️
So beautiful. Thank you for this tutorial. I now know what to do with pine cones my 8 year old granddaughter and I collected on a nature walk last week. This will be a perfect project for us to do together during the holidays. I can prep everything, make it into a “kit” and it will be pure joy. I’ll sort our pine cones, and collect any additional cones needed. I will also precut the rope and wire, and make the bow. We will want to make two. One for my home, and one for her home. She will love presenting it to her Mom and Dad! We may add some candy canes and a small ornament. Other than gathering additional cones, I have everything needed on already on hand. Thanks again. We love your channel and watch all the time!
If you have pine cones this is a wonderful way to utilize them. The swags turned out beautiful and they looked perfect on the doors!!! Maybe I'll go pine cone hunting today?! Have a wonderful day!!! Thanks!
💜💚 Yess, there's something about nature and it's smells, I love pine scents with a lil cinnamon and nutmeg! Now I'm going to plant that plant that grows them red gorgeous berries!!! I love it!! I'm making somethin like this in my 2 pots out front I watched you do it one yr!!! Again love your bows Laura!🤗 man these are gorgeous I'd buy 2 !!!
Thank you Laura! I never saw this swag made. I love pinecones and collected them for years. while sorting my christmas stuff just yesterday i realized i have way too many and need to use them somehow. This is just perfect timing. I love it! Thank you for all you do. You're amazing.
Laura, I would not be too concerned with the thumbs down as I click to check a commercial/ad to see it and as I came back to your, I noticed there was a black thumbs down. I had clicked the thumbs up so I changed it back. It must be a glitch. No one would give you all a thumbs down on purpose and there are way too many to legitimate. As always, this was informative and lovely.❣️😊💗❤️💕
Thank you for these. I have nearly driven myself crazy trying to do wreaths on a number of occasions. You are beautiful and smart and I wish you could give us the secret of your boundless energy! God bless you and your family this Christmas!
Good morning! Love the swags. Easy she says, you make it easy and beautiful. You have a gift, flowers, planters, swags, whatever, you make it beautiful.
Love all the decorating and Christmas videos! Wondering if you'll be using a real Christmas tree in the Hartley since there is no heat to dry it out ? What a fun family tradition that would be to pick out a tree for the Hartley!😄 Would love to see your parents house decked out for Christmas! I love the videos where she is involved...the two of you are so joyful and brighten everyone's day!
This came out beautiful!!! So I have a bunch of pampas grass I need to do somethong with and I think I could do something similar... you got my wheels turning now laura! 😆 love this! Thank you so much!
For the last 1+ yrs I've been watching your channel. I went from avoiding garden responsibilities at all costs to creating a balcony garden for 2 consecutive seasons and growing my housplant collection. Thank you for your inspiring videos. In return, i'll share a little bit of trivia with you - the part of the pinecone that you wrapped the wire aroung is called the "scale". Thank you Garden Answer!
So beautiful! Don't forget that any pine cones that you gather from outside - you want to bake them in the oven (put on double layered parchment paper so the sap does not wreck your pan) at 200 degrees for 2-3 hours. You do not want any little bugs that live in them to come into your house! I am absolutely going to make one of these - love it!
Nice white table top to show all the details of your beautiful swag. I really appreciate the high quality of your videos. So I guess that's a thanks to both of you: Laura and Aaron!
Laura you’re so funny, when you said hanging a Christmas swag when there’s hollyhock still outside, you would feel like a duck out of water here in Australia I have blooms of every sort around, it’s late Spring beginning of Summer, and all the Christmas lights, trees etc. love watching your videos you’re my biggest inspiration every morning to get up and fuss around my garden, have a beautiful Christmas and thanksgiving with your beautiful family!!
I absolutely ❤️ this swag! Thank you so much for sharing and the inspiration! I wish we had those long cones here in Georgia! We have the short fat ones! This is so beautiful!
Beautiful swags created by a very nice person whose ideas help to brighten up a wonderful time of the year. People like you are very inspiring in an ever Increasingly dark world. It's nice to see how you care to show people how to bring happiness with simple features that can give them a sense of cozy warmth. We need more of this in this world.
Just finished making 6 of these! Brought home a trash bag full of pine cones from our church to try and make something for the 3 sets of double entrance doors. Well, this video popped up in my feed and I was like “What?! These are beautiful and perfect!!” Thank you Laura😊❤️
Happy Saturday Garden Answer Friends! Ooohh. I love this swag idea Laura! I have watched your wreath tutorials in the past...your acorn wreaths...and Love them all! I am going to attempt this project for my mirror hanging in my living area.. I bought a Sprague of berry branches with white battery operated twinkle lights, I am going to incorporate into my homemade swag. I have a vision, thanks to you Laura! Can't wait to start this project.. First, I am going outside to pick up some long pine cones from our pine trees shedding their cones...Have a great day all!
Hi Laura and Aaron! I really like your pinecone swags. They turned out so pretty and I think with your demonstration on how to wire everything, most of us could do that. I like the greenery, berries and bow that you added. It made them look perfect. They look really pretty on the white doors to the sunroom. Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh Laura I love how they turned out. They are absolutely beautiful. I just love the look. Now I need to start making some swags and wreaths. You, Aaron, Benjamin and Samantha Grace have a great weekend.
The "SWAGS" came out,so sweet and festive Love where they end up hang,by sun porch (I wish I was there, seating with you, sipping a cup of Java on your sun porch!!! Christmas bonding jajaja P.S I love how you RE-USE a lot of the materials you use on your projects!!!😊😍😄Everyone SHOULD have a Friend or Sister like you!!!
Love these swags, so pretty! It does appear you switched out the bow for a larger one with more loops? I like how much fuller it looks. Thanks for always inspiring 💚
so beautiful with just simple things from Mother Nature ❤ ... i do need to practice making bows; you make it look easy and it probably is, but i always feel "all thumbs" doing these projects.. practice practice... i laughed when you showed the hollyhock blooming: now you're having a southern California Christmas!!! still weeding, planting, blooming down here and putting up Christmas lights when it will be 85 tomorrow (cooler today), lol... ahhh, but it's still a joyous and fun time of year!! 🙂 ❤ thanks for the video!!! 🙂 ❤
They turned out just beautiful! I may have missed it, but what type of pine did you pick the cones from? I am a florist and we use a lot of cones but I rarely get to work with this "sturdy" of a variety. Thank you for always being so inspiring 💗
Beautiful, economical and environmentally friendly. Love💕the swags. I am so glad you showed the 3M Command hooks! When watching your video yesterday of redoing the corner area and you using nails for your pictures I was yelling “Use Command strips!” I use them to hang almost everything, especially temporary holiday decorations! I have a couple outside for wind chimes that continue to be used even 3 years later (surviving Chicago area winters!)
I love your project again. I will make it, too. I did not realize that those Pine cones can really make into a beautiful X'mas swag. With all those natural materials from the garden, it's so unique and lovely to have natural X'mas decor in the house. Thank you so much again for sharing your videos. Take care and happy holidays. 🥰💖🎄
Wow! Who knew making a swag could be so simple? When I saw you use that rope as a base, I was like, “huh?!” 🤷🏼♀️🤔 and then in true Laura fashion you made it look so easy and beautiful! Will definitely try my hand at this! Did you get a new surface on your studio table? I don’t remember it being white. I loved how it made it easier for us to see what you were doing!
Are those berries already dried? Or will it dry? Would you be able keep the berries year to year? If so, how would you store it when not in use? So pretty!♥️💚🎄
She mentioned that the live greens and berries would have to be removed before storing. You could use artificial greens and berry branches from a craft store which would last. Doesn't she make it look easy? I have used live greens and berries in a window box. The birds eat the berries during the winter which is fine with me.
I've been creating with pine, yew and juniper for years. My Mom was a florist and I worked at the Holidays with her. But, l had Never seen such a Beautiful, And easy to make Christmas swag! I'm a new viewer and you have me hooked Already! They call me Mr. Christmas, because l love it so much! I can't wait to see your other Wonderful ideas. Thank you and have a Great New Year!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🎉🎉🎉♥️😃

I’m waking up at 4:00 am to watch my Laura …love You so much!❤
Ok, you have convinced me to try my first bow. I always found them intimidating. Thank you 😊
Thank you for this idea. I live in Southern California and I'm going to use unripened limes and passion fruit. I'll use palm tree berries branches.
That was awesome! I often wondered how to attach pine cones to a swag! Thank you so much! Loved how they came together easily❤️🥰🙏
Excellent ribbon making directions and now I can make 2 bows today for my front door garland!
Love it! I believe I can actually make this! Thank you so much for sharing. Have a fabulous day.

Gorgeous Laura🎄You always make these projects look effortless, which in turn makes me want to try them🤗
At last I’ve found someone who uses natural foliage for Christmas decorations. Absolutely beautiful, thank you.

I really love this swag!! It looks so beautiful on the door!! 💕
Love these! Thank you so much for the tutorial! I was wondering what the back looks like since they may be on a window.
Just finished making 6 of these! Brought home a trash bag full of pine cones from our church to try and make something for the 3 sets of double entrance doors. Well, this video popped up in my feed and I was like “What?! These are beautiful and perfect!!” Thank you Laura😊❤️
Always great for the soul to do or watch Christmas & Easter types of projects!

Good morning, GA friends! I haven't made a swag in years. Now, where did I pack my pine cones? ~ Lisa
The things you do with stuff from your own backyard... 🥰 Girl, you got talent!😍💞👍🏽!
It is LOVELY! I know what my project we’ll be today. Thanks for sharing! 🎄xo
Oh Laura I love how they turned out. They are absolutely beautiful. I just love the look. Now I need to start making some swags and wreaths. You, Aaron, Benjamin and Samantha Grace have a great weekend.

P.S I love how you RE-USE a lot of the materials you use on your projects!!!😊😍😄Everyone SHOULD have a Friend or Sister like you!!!
Love these swags, so pretty! It does appear you switched out the bow for a larger one with more loops? I like how much fuller it looks. Thanks for always inspiring 💚
I wish it would have taken her more time so I could have gazed at her diamond ring longer! BEAUTIFUL! Oh, the swag is spectacular, too.
Love the swags, they are a favorite of mine in decorating for the holidays.
I love them.❤ I go wandering and scavenging every year. It's the best part of decorating.
Beautiful work Laura as usual. Thank you 🙏
so beautiful with just simple things from Mother Nature ❤ ... i do need to practice making bows; you make it look easy and it probably is, but i always feel "all thumbs" doing these projects.. practice practice... i laughed when you showed the hollyhock blooming: now you're having a southern California Christmas!!! still weeding, planting, blooming down here and putting up Christmas lights when it will be 85 tomorrow (cooler today), lol... ahhh, but it's still a joyous and fun time of year!!
I think these came from the big blue spruce tree that tipped over in late summer. I remember her harvesting the ounce cones before they removed it.
Great project🍁🍂! Love it! And.... your ring is so pretty💍!
Did anyone else laugh inside when Laura said "the flavor of your swag” maybe just me 😂 ♥️🎄
Love this project and so happy you can save them and just replace the greenery.
What a beautiful way to use pinecones. Love this project!
But, l had Never seen such a
