Good job we didn’t have to endure Sam Allardyce. At least Southgate cared and tried and gave us some amazing memories. Stood up for the players. Represented the badge with pride. But tactically was found wanting and the right time to leave. He has left a great platform off the pitch and has big shoes to fill. On the pitch we need an elite coach.

If England had mirrored the Spanish formation, remembered to bring a fit left back, picked Gordon, realised Rice isn't a number six, not picked two players to play as number tens, blooded in an alternative to the non existent Harry Kane and actually kept at playing the 4-3-3 formation, then I believe there would be a greater cohesion amongst this team and it would've at least worth watching. More often than not, this tournament has been a painful watch for England fans and that is down to Gareth Southgate and easy draws not withstanding, he should have gone after the last World Cup.

Robbie correction: England got to the semi-final in 1990 with Sir Bobby Robson. Italia '90. Against West Germany, went to penalties. Pearce and Waddle missed.
Some people are celebrating, yet they should hold their horses and be careful what they wish for.
Southgate has raised standards and expectations. Under Southgate England has gone deep into tournaments. There is now an expectation to win and het to finals. If the next man doesn't qualify or get out of the group-stage, people will be crying out for Southgate in a few years time! There will have to be pragmatism at times, not all teams can merely be turned over.
In terms of the new manager:
If English, has to be: Eddie Howe or Carsley.
If non-English: Klopp (though doubtful he would ever take, as he wants to relax, so no idea why his name is being constantly thrown into the mix).
No way Lampard, Rooney or Gerrard. They have poor man-management and inter-personal skills.
    No way: the Argentian Pochettino.

I think Southgate has been unfortunate. If we had the same squad that lost to Italy we would have won this tournament. We had players injured and completely fatigued, we also had players who it was their first major tournament. Not being able to call apon players because they were injured cost him this tournament also the fact the media put so much pressure on our players, makes it even harder. Now we will have to accept that its going to take the next manager some time to get the team he/she to where they want them to be. As soon as I saw the game against Iceland before the euros, I didn't think we would get out the group because how fatigued our players looked. The fact is he did extremely well to get them to the final.

FA arent going down the foreign route again after Capello and Ericsson. My gut feeling is that either Potter or Howe will get the job.

Or do we go with a manager that has had success in tournaments with the england youth like Spain did? Lee Carsley isn't a massive name but he's won things with the lads breaking into the mens team before. If anybody knows these players it's Lee.

Being the England coach is the very last job Klopp would ever accept. I also doubt that he will become the US coach but not for the same reason he would refuse the England job. For that reason we have our fingers crossed that maybe (ironically) someone like Beckham could convince the Teuton to change his mind about retirement.

England can qualify for tournaments, they can get to quarters, semi's and finals. The job has been to get a trophy since 1966 so effectively they need a manager that can win a trophy with a style of football that doesn't stink out the stadium. And this is the impossible dream. Is English national football attractive....hell no. Spain are the benchmark for how international football should be played at the highest level, possession football, precision football, dictate they play. etc etc. It's not a shock when England lose at the business end and that is the problem

All fans should boo boring football even if its winning.

England will flop at the next world cup. I think that because they won't be able to play in the heat in America, especially as many games will be earlier in the day due to the time difference. It'll just take one game like the one vs Spain where they're chasing the ball for that to happen.

When you look at the grand scheme of things a better manager would have won at least one of those competitions.
The England team had that much success because of the golden generation of players they had at their disposal despite Gareth Southgate.

That's right Scape goat and use your agenda Southgate got people playing with pride again for England they love being there cos of him
Despite Southgate 💀 so it's not his fault when we lose we had a golden generation 2002-10 Capello worked at Madrid top manager as you say why couldn't he do it for us if he's a proper manager

Howe has already came out and said he’s not interested, he loves the day to day involvement of management and England wouldn’t be for him. He has one of the best projects in world football right now at Newcastle and it’s only getting better since Paul Mitchell has been recruited, exciting times ahead for Newcastle. Howe will want to be involved.

Give him credit . He's second to Alf Ramsey , fell short with tactics and reliance on Kane who should have had continual support from second striker . Next England manager must learn from these errors and have the team play with more rhythm and freedom . Both left back and right back situation needs resolving and midfield leaders along side Bellingham to strengthen the side .

I'm not English, but despite the history this guy has with England and his country has with England, I think Simeone would be perfect. I think that he has not got to much time left on his contract (I could be wrong) he plays defensive when he has to, and attacking when he has to play lesser opposition. He can also bring a bit of nastyness to the team and he is a winner. Would be great for England to have him as a manager

Here we are asking for top managers to come to England when we just got beat in a final by a nobody as manager. It's clear that international football doesn't require a "top manager" just someone who knows what they're doing perhaps. Also the players really need to step up.

    Calling it now:
We appoint whoever after Southgate leaves. Qualify for the World Cup with great expectations of potentially winning it and playing attractive football.
We don’t make it anywhere near the final potentially getting knock out at the group stages fans and media call for the new managers head.
Fans and media cry for Southgate to come back and then leads us into the next euros.
Despite Southgate’s faults he knows how to get England deep into major tournaments no proof anyone else can do that as of yet.
Let’s not waste another talented bunch of England players.
But thank you for the good moments Southgate ❤
