@@Canada_Facts You’re welcome. I do have a question though. I have the 3 decos but I want to extend my current isp router’s coverage. I have it set in router mode, but is there a way to have them both (the deco and my isp router) as ONE network, just expanded? Or will I always have TWO SEPARATE networks (Deco and isp)? Currently in router mode, it STILL creates 2 networks as if it was in AP mode

The main thing is what is the lag in milli seconds for the device to switch between these nodes when you move around in two modes. That is missing in this review. Did you run the AP mode speed test after the swith or before the switch?

Hi Jasdeep, I have a mutli 4 story house that is wired and all wires meet in basement. Currently ONT modem device also is right next to all the wires in basement. I added a switch to network all the house jacks, and I would like to add Decos as AP wired backhaul. So is my setup correct like this ? ONT Modem----->Router with DCHP------>Switch in basement. Then Switch----->Main Deco on Level 1 as AP and use jacks in each connected via Switch on Level 2, Level 3 as AP. Is this the only possible conflict free setup ? Thanks for your videos.

What if my isp router has sufficient ports so that all decos can be directly connected to it and disbursed around my house? If I turn off the isp router's WiFi signal would that alleviate the competing networks issue?
Also, is it better to daisy chain each deco to one another, or would plugging all directly to the isp router achieve the same speeds?

    • @Canada_Facts
      @Canada_Facts  2 года назад

      Great question
Connecting all decos to ISP would be an AP mode I think
If you could either connect all decos with ISP (for AP) or if you could connect all slave decos to Main deco (router)
      That is the best
If not then you can daisy chain
If you are not going to hardwire then daisy chaining would automatically happen

I turned DHCP off on both router and extender and they both run in AP mode. I then connected the main deco directly to the Hitron and connected the main deco to 4 switches (8 ethernet in each). I have placed the main deco in the basement at one end of the house and then placed 5 more decos around the house, probably an overkill but 4 upstairs and 2 downstairs). I tried AP and Router mode and not sure which one is better. The main difference is that in AP mode i also have the use of the other 3 Hitron ethernet connection to stay with one network. In the router mode, deco creates its own network so the other 3 ethernet connections on the Hitron are not useful as they belong to a different network. In both cases i am getting very good wifi from the 6 decos. I am currently in the router mode. Have I done this correctly? PS our house is large (3700 sq foot with full basement).

Hi Raj - Thanks for the question
Honestly when it comes to wifi you should only check 2 things - Range (speed across different spots) + Roaming
As long as both check off and you are getting the desired connection it doesn't matter whether you are using AP or Router
Router does provide you Parental, Antivirus and other benefits if you want to keep those
My suggestion would be - try one full week on Ap and other on Router and test the Roaming when moving from one spot to other
If it is same for both then choose either

    (2) Create a new ssid with 2.4GHz only separate from the main and guest network. Reason: majority of my smart devices such as plugs, lights, switches, etc are working on 2.4GHz frequency only, they were designed with maximum distance in mind and the side effect is that they'll have trouble connecting or reconnecting to an ssid if that ssid name is broadcasting both on 2.4GHz and 5GHz at the same time. They must be on an SSID that is only broadcasting the 2.4GHz frequency so that they won't have issues connecting or reconnecting to wifi. I would prefer my smart devices to be on the same network as main and not isolated.
    (3) I want to keep the guest network for guests only. I want to make the guest network isolated from my main network. So i would prefer not to put my smart devices on guest network. Guest network must be isolated so they can't see my devices.
If adding a new ssid cannot be done on deco app, then my top choice would be to let the 2.4GHz smart devices utilize deco guest network as a pure 2.4GHz only and not isolated network.
For the guests, is it possible to turn on deco main wifi6 router mode, deco guest wifi6 router mode and modem/router wifi5 at the same time without causing big interference? Because if yes, that could solve my requirement of having 3 SSIDs. Guests have no right to complain if they are getting wifi5 only.
Follow up question. If the Deco wifi6 x series is operated on ap mode to complement the wifi5 ac router's wifi. Does that mean that deco can only provide wifi5 speeds even when they can support up to wifi6 speeds just because the router is still on wifi5?

Good idea but I am not a 100% about the extra ssid flexibility with deco
Probably contacting tp link would be the ideal solution

For the extra SSID, you need to have a MIMO(multiple input multiple output) router

can you please suggest if this would work?
ISP modem > TP-Link TL-R600VPN SafeStream > Deco (Primary Deco / Connecting via LAN) and configure this as dynamic IP.
And rest two deco connecting via LAN (as back-haul connection using TP-Link TL-R600VPN SafeStream LAN ports)

It looks good setup however not sure why you can’t get plug directly to isp modem

@@Canada_Facts our ISP provided ONU and then on your own router you need to setup PPOE.
Only thing is that I probably would need to disable DHCP on the Safestream and use it as switch I believe

im using DECO X60. although it works using AP mode, problem is it destroys my network, sometimes it suddenly becomes a router itself giving IP addresses even the mode is on AP.

This is definitely a good video but when i used router mode my internet speed and ping was bad soon after setup so i changed to AP now superfast though i dont have the firewall or switch functions i guess. Btw i have modem and I don't own a router does my modem act as router?

hi..i would like to ask your opinion about my setup...i am with rogers internet and have 3 deco m4...my current setup is:
ROGERS MODEM (not in bridge mode and wifi turned off)
--->Main deco (connected to rogers modem by ethernet) (in Access point mode)(broadcasting the wifi i am using)
---->Gigabit switch connected to the main deco by ethernet cable (12 ethernet port switch)
---->2 remaining decos connected to the gigabit switch by ethernet and located at different rooms a good distance away
when i do speed tests there seems to be a big drop off in speeds in terms of hardline connection or wifi if not connected directly to the rogers modem... if a laptop is connected to the rogers modem directly by ethernet i would get almost full gigabit speed but if you connect the same laptop by ethernet to the main deco or the switch or the other remaining deco, i would see a 60% drop off in speed/mbps...
do you think it would be better to use wifi router mode?
do i need to set the rogers modem on bridge mode and the deco in access point mode?or bridge mode modem with wifi router mode?
also, i need to be able to use functions like NAT,port forwarding and parental controls but apparently access point mode doesnt allow these features..
thanks in advance for your help

The issue here is deco M4 does not support Gigabit speeds practically
The higher end deco units line X series are wifi6 and support gigabit speeds

Hello.. My router using mikrotik and then port mikrotik to port 1 main deco1..
    And port2 main deco1 to another deco2 port1.. And then port2 deco2 goes to port1 deco3
It's it possible and how about througgput?? This still fine??

      Still fine
If that’s the best possible structure then no worries

Hi Jay, super and clear explanation. Quick question here, in router mode my laptop has seamless switch over between Deco's, however for my cell phones (both of them) even though there is switch over between Deco's internet doesn't seem working when it is switched from one to other Deco. I have to manually disconnect and re connect to deco for internet to work. Hence, any suggestion would be really helpful. Thanks in Advance

    Dear Sir,
If you use hardwire to your deco system then why pay that big cost? Why not setup the same but with normal routers for each room you have

    • @Canada_Facts
      @Canada_Facts  Год назад

That is a good approach but the problem would be roaming
When the mesh is of the same brand they do smooth handoff
Having hardwire is just like fan vs Air conditioner
      Hardwire boosts the speed
But mesh is needed for one common network that supports handoff and roaming

Greetings.. I have an Asus RT-AC87U Router , nearly 7 years old. Over the years my devices have grown and recently added 3 Deco X60 in a mesh configuration as access points with ethernet back haul . I live in a large 5600 sq. ft. , 3 floor home (concrete floors , 12 inch brick walls) . The home is covered by cat 6 cabling , so all heavy media centers ( 1 home theater and 2 smaller setups , all 4K , Netflix , Hotstar , +++) are wired ( TV's , Roku's , 4 K Fire Sticks , Apple TV , NVidia ) . I am into home automation so have a number of 2.4 Ghz camera's , smart devices. I also have a Zigbee set up ( about 34 devices) on a HA server . There would be about 50 + WiFi devices and about 20 + wired devices accessing the internet ( thru the Deco Mesh and some on the Asus Router) . While about 40 devices access through the deco mesh , and 20+ are wired , all the DHCP protocols are handled by the Asus Router . I would like to upgrade the router , to one capable of handling multiple devices. The WiFi coverage is not very important as the Deco Mesh would cover the home . Any suggestions as to the path I should take ? Your thoughts most welcome. I live in Bangalore.

I guess you are looking for wifi router options
If that's the case you can probably extend the decos as a replacement for the Asus

@@Canada_Facts Appreciate your quick reply. My concern is that the main router (Asus or the Deco X60) should have the cpu power to handle 100 + devices as the DHCP will be handled by only one device (router) and not by the access points. The traffic /bandwidth to the internet would get channelized thru the router ,. The WiFi processing would be done by the access points scattered around the home , but ultimately it will be the router linked to the WAN which will do some heavy lifting. Am I correct in my thought process ? If so , what should be my next step !! Look forward to your inputs.

I don't know why but I have had to use Access Point mode in my 2 bedroom Flat, for some reason with Router Mode i was getting a lot of random disconnects during work meetings and online gaming, it was not stable at all, I presumed this was something to do with interfering signals, potentially from my ISPs provided modem but honestly I'm not sure after watching this video because it sounds like I should be using Router mode...

    • @Canada_Facts
      @Canada_Facts  2 года назад

Generally AP mode is more preferred if the two rooms are pretty far and you would not be roaming from one room to other
However if the rooms are close and you end up roaming a lot, I would prefer Router mode
But if the ISP modem causes interference you could turn off the Wifi on that and try
There is always scope for exceptions and best setup is the one which adapts to the layout of your home

If youre having problems with router mode, then going to AP brings into question the quality of the router. The router quality isnt a problem in deco router mode because its only acting as a modem to the deco, which is basic functionality for even the cheapest routers. If you're router is high quality and can handle 64+ devices then having the Deco's in AP mode, shouldnt reduce speeds. Be sure to TURN OFF wifi on the main router in BOTH modes and run a LAN cable to the first deco. If wifi is left on in AP passthrough and Access point mode, then you may get interference.
