Soundbars are getting very good, and I enjoy headphones a lot (everyday) but for gaming and movies, I'm all about a legit surround system with full-size speakers. But is that a dying breed?
I don't think its a dying thing but i have a theory about companies saying surround sound headset..........but its a long typeout
Not at all, I think more people are buying them now that theaters are leaving. Also seeing alot more 2 channel, 2.1 and 3.1 setups.
@@Hogre0knifenut makes a good point but. Ive always been a home theater in a box person but i feel like my speakers should be hidden to better conceal my sound while gettin the full effect but i feel sound bars are just to replace the standard factory tv speakers whereas HTIAB was designed to better increase and enhance your sound quality and performance thats why dolby has the Atmos capable sss (surround sound system)
Hey Caleb, I’ve been into surround sound and home theater since before there was even a such thing as surround sound receivers. Back then we bought out board surround processors and hooked them up to stereo amps.
I remember back in the late 80s there were high end boutique audio shops all over the place where I live in NY. Since then all of them have closed and we have a few Best Buy stores that have magnolia showrooms but even that stuff isn’t as esoteric as the older stores. I have kept my system from basic old surround in the 80s to 5.1.4 atmos now. I do not know anybody in my life that has a home theater system. I’ve met other enthusiasts online but I don’t know anybody who has a home theater. Most people I know could care a less about sound. That being said I don’t think home theaters are going anywhere soon. I was 17 when I started this hobby and I’m 50 now. I’ve had laserdisc, supervhs, vhs, dvd, Blu-ray, and ultra 4K Blu-ray and I hope to see a couple more formats before I shuffle off this mortal coil.
@@AgonyTheClown so was i like in my PlayStation obe days since i saw tekken 2 then more so in my ps2 days when i had my first dvd player
The Adjust 3D Audio Profile has nothing to do with intensity. Each option is a HRTF profile that the user should select based on which one sounds best to them. It essentially adjusts the level of how high or low 3D audio sounds relative to ear level
I just picked up a new QN90B with a Bose 600 soundbar. Your tutorials are the best. You explain so many details of why things work they way they work. This is so helpful when applying settings to our specific rooms. Everyone views and plays in different settings with so many mixes of equipment. I can now feel confident my PS5 is setup the way I want it to be and I am not missing anything. The sound now is super.
I usually use a headphone (pulse 3D at the moment) but i love using a full speaker 5.1 at least. I love the immersion it provides and games and movies offers every time more quality as time goes by.
This is one of those videos that I didn't know I needed until I viewed it. I may not have the hardware yet ... *cough ... but now I know what I should be thinking about. Thank you, Caleb.
My pleasure!
This was an incredibly helpful and useful video I was completely unaware of there being a sound-bar setting on the ps5 and a Dolby option I thought that was automatically done
Hey there I have a question
Since my soundbar is only 3.1.2 ch, is there any difference with using PCM and Bitstream? Because it will introduce lag if I use Bitstream Dolby or DTS on my Ps4
Home theater surround speakers all day.
I'm so thankful your channel actually talks about speakers! Most gamer channels only seem to focus on headphones which can be good, but never as great as the full surround you get from speakers and bass you can feel.
Yup, this all day. I run a full 7.2.4 atmos setup with ceiling speakers. Once you have a setup like this, you can’t go back.
I also have a set of pulse explore earbuds that I use just for party chats. I just have one earbud in for chats. 👍🏼
After watching your video on the best video setting for the ps5 I dug around in the PS5 settings menu and did exactly what you were suggesting in this video.
Bad info on choosing DD5.1 or DTS. LPCM is the correct choice as DD and DTS cause audio delay and are lossy.
Blu-ray audio playback is handled separately, so you get the best of both worlds.
Interesting, I've actually found that DTS gives no idea delay for me and pcm gives me a little bit. DD gives me alot of delay though. But I actually prefer using DTS now.
Yes this is the correct choise.
Yes. LPCM should be selected. For E-ARC connection to AVR, have to select "Passthrough" instead of "Auto" for it to output 7.1 PCM, at least for my PS4 Pro and LG C9.
THIS
Can agree, its been like that when I got my ps5 in December and it's still the same now. I upgraded to a new dolby atmos soundbar for the ps5 specifically and neither dolby nor dts provides synchronized audio. It's not a game thing either, the menu button presses already have this delay
Can you please do a video on 7.1 surround sound headphones, and how we would go about setting it up
What is the best experience playing ps5 these days, headset with 3D audio or soundbar with subwoofer and two rear speakers for surround sound? And generally is it okay to keep the AV amplifier speaker position from PS5 setting at default? Or do we need to adjust it
This is very helpful got a new 5.1 yesterday and still tweaking it..
For me after a lot of test and errors, finally the perfect sound was to enable the AV enhancement and changing the sound type to DTS, I was playing FF16 and was having a hard time hearing stuff, and now everything sounds crystal clear with a sound bar and without one. Give it a try if you experience some lost audios in-game.
I'm very happy with the sound on the Ps5, got it hooked to a Samsung Q950T Atmos soundbar and it sounds pretty awesome. During gaming i cannot tell if there's a difference to how it sounds to my Series X, however the 4k bluray player on the Ps5 destroys the one on the Series X, it's quicker, smoother, sharper and reveals more detail and last but not least it sounds fuller. Well done on this one Sony.
Since the PS5 updated the firmware and added an headphones equaliser the sound has improved greatly
Great work guys, videos like that are very helpfull for us,i use those settings now, also from your last video, thank you so much for this, great channel😁😁✌️✌️
Home Theater setup for gaming but later at night I switch to headphones.
Love these ps5 videos keep em coming
Thanks been waiting for this👍🏻🙂
I think some of this info is incorrect. HRTF profiles aren't related to intensity, and there was some misinformation surrounding Linear PCM.
I think the speaker position screen is futureproofing for when they add 3D audio to multi speaker systems. They said they were planning that.
No midroll ads!!! Thank you!!!!
I'm a receiver & speakers kind of gamer. Recently upgraded to a Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 with a massive subwoofer. Ceiling speakers are game changing.
PS5 have Dolby Atmos?
I have an LD CX1 hooked up to an Onkyo and use speakers. We enjoyed listening to you, as you confirmed what we did last night!
For audio format, you want to leave it to Linear PCM no matter the type of soundbar or speaker setup you have when it comes to video games. However, when watching a blu ray there’s a separate settings menu in which you’d want to switch the format to bitstream. HDTVTest made a video explaining this.
It seems no one is on the same page with PCM vs bitstream. I'm always reading opposite recommendations. Confusing!
can you post a link homie? i wanna see this video.
Can you post a link to it.tried searching but no luck
This is true in theory, but it only really applies if you have an Atmos setup. If you just have a 2.1 or 5.1 (or even a standard 7.1) setup, the best you'd get from bitstream is Dolby TrueHD or the DTS equivalent and those are, theoretically, audibly identical to a PCM stream. On the other hand, sometimes TrueHD has dialog normalization applied, so some might find that better and others might find it worse (though it is objectively different from the studio master). Perhaps more importantly, TVs like the LG C9 (and probably C8 and CX) have an audible lag when using bitstream from an HDMI source, so your audio will be about a second behind your video when using Dolby in particular. In that sense, it's arguably worse to use bitstream if a) you have an LG OLED TV and b) you're not using Atmos or DTS:X anyway.
@@Nunya.Bidness I can’t remember the exact link or article but I do remember reading directly from a game dev that linear PCM was the best setting to use for video games as their audio passthrough works different compared to what you’d be getting out of say a 4K UHD Blu Ray movie. I’d say just try out both and see which one sounds better to you with my experience being Linear PCM being much louder and more clear in games
I'm having issues with my headphones, the same ones I used on the ps4 now sound muffled on the ps5, and when I play games like COD I can't really hear the person until it's to late and when I do hear them they always sound like they are coming from the same direction. Any way to fix this??
What if my ps5 is connected to my tv but I have a receiver also connected to the tv via the eARC? What should I select as my HDMI device? TV or receiver?
Jbl 9.1 Bar and Sony X900H w/ PS5
When I switch to bitstream, it sounds thin and weak
Pcm sounds more robust and full.
Why do you recommend bitstream > lpcm?
Do I have to do something special if I'm using powered speakers on my tv setup?
So I have a Vizio Elevate soundbar, but that's a full 5.1 surround sound system. The only way to get the speaker channel options on the PS5 is to select AV Amplifier as the speaker set up. Would you recommend using that option or the Soundbar option for soundbars that have surround speakers and a sub?
Im pretty sure the 3d audio section is not for intensity. It is based on how your ears shape detect the audio’s 3d effect with the different options. Disappointed it wasn’t very touched on this video since it’s one of the playstation strengths in audio.
I have a brand new PS5 and a brand new Samsung curved monitor model U32R59. We're all set up and everything is working, the problem is in not being able to get audio to come through the speakers. If you plug wired headphones into the monitor you can hear all of the audio perfectly. However if you use a 3.5mm aux cable to connect monitor to speaker via an aux-in port, no audio is heard. I tried everything. Please help.
But I do have another question for u…. I had everything set to dolby to at least get the 5.1 and I popped in bluray for Spider-Man into the spider verse which is DTS 5.1. But guess what? When the proper movie starts, there is ZERO sound unless fast forwarding at 1.5x. In order to get the audio to play I had to adjust the bluray option for audio from bitstream to linear pcm and then the DTS audio came out fine…. And that was with os5 audio format set to DTS…any clue why or if there’s a work around or something?
Full quality A/V receiver and speakers for sure! Any insight on brands and distributors I should consider for the best set up I can get for under $1,000?
Love these videos you guys continue to do. Great job!
What if I connect my Soundsystem with an optical cable to my TV And then connect a 3.5mm headphone to the Soundsystem? That is my setup. Would the sound be better than through the controller? For some reason I doubt that wireless controller would bring as good quality as a Soundsystem connected via optical cable but I can't really hear any difference. And when I activate Dolby or DTS as audio format I for some reason get a significant lag
I have Pioneer elite Dolby atmos receiver and the thing that I've noticed is that no matter what sound settings I choose on the ps5 in games that support 7.1 like last of us 2 or God of war it won't let you select 7.1 in the game sound settings but my ps4 pro hooked up the exact same way will. Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks for doing this, I appreciate you.
I have my sound bar connected to my TV. Should I change the audio output settings on my PS5 to Sound bar or keep it TV? What would be my ideal settings?
I noticed a Vizio Elevate is shown during this video. Since that is technically a soundbar but has 5.1.4 channels, would you recommend choosing AV Amplifier over the soundbar option? It sounds like based on what you said that doesn’t really matter if you are choosing Bitstream Dolby or DTS audio, is that correct?
Need help got a ps5 slim sound worked fine up until about a month ago ps5 hooked up to tv and I got a vizio m-series 5.1 and I'm using eARc form the to soundbar and the sound keeps cutting in and out I tried everything please help
When using Bitstream with my soundbar, I get audio delay. I have to leave it on PCM.
Same I am use a lg cx with sonos Arc, I hear that the audio is better with bitstream dolby, But I get a big delay
i have literally scoured the internet for hours upon hours and can not for the life of me get a solid answer. If you use virtual surround sound such as Dolby atoms, windows sonic, Astro mix amp exc. in the in game menu under audio settings what option should you use? stereo headphones or surround sound? I know you should never double up on surround sound effects it will make the audio sound like crap. another question does the in game audio surround sound option count as an effect or is just controlling the dynamic ranges/EQ's?
I have 9.1 jbl yet on ps5 audio format I got the same options but it doesnt say bitstream just dolby or dts, also jbl message pop says pcm whnever I turn the game on! Any idea ?
What settings should i have, i don't get sound coming from the centre channel and i am on 7.1 surround sound?
Hi can you help me ? I have a denon x1600h, ps5 and a philips 807. And i cannot bring it to use linear multichanel from the ps5 on the EARC ( ps5 connected to tvs earc port ), instead the max i can get is dolby+dsur - and the reciever wont switch to adapt to other audio sources like it would normally do ( reciever set to auto ) . I can only get multi ch from ps5 when i connect it to the reciever ( and lose 120 hz vrr ), or connect it to a ARC hdmi port ( and lose 120 hz vrr ). When i connect it to the EARC port, i get 120hz vrr - but only dolby, no multi chanel. I did go EVERY posible combination of settings and i just cant make it work : (
Quick question I want to fix my sound because it gets too loud when there is shouting in last of us but when there is talking I can't hear anything
So.... If I have a vizio 5.1 sound bar system connected to my TV through arc CEC, should it be TV or sound bar? Which device is the output? the signal or audio?
How do I get all sound through my headphones (chat & audio) and also keep the sound on my tv?
When trying to use Dolby/DTS I get no sound out of my rear surround speakers. Have to use LPCM and get all the surround, spacial moving noises etc.
For reference I have a vizio p65 TV, and a Vizio 3651 soundbar.
Thanks for the video. I have a Samsung qn95a tv with a q800a soundbar and tv supports pass through and Dolby atmos toward the soundbar. Now that they’ve enabled 3d audio also for tv/soundbar but only with linear pcm, would you still suggest me to use Dolby (even if it is not Dolby atmos)? And between Dolby and DTS which is the best?
Btw, when I’m playing alone without friends I usually use a pair of Steelseries Arctis 7p headphones which sounds great and I think it is the most immersive way of playing on Ps5.
I have the Bose 650 home theater. I have my PS5 connected directly to the Tv and the Bose connected to the Tv using the earc port. On the PS5 settings I selected output device Av amplifier and audio format Dolby. Is this ok?
I was just able to get a ps5 and found this video. I use a 2.1 sound bar for media and I prefer a head set for gaming. My current headset is the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE.
Thanks for the info in the video.
Hello. Maybe you can help me out pls: i have a denon x2700h conected to 5.1 speakers and the ps5 trough the receiver and the receiver to the tv and i'm experiencing some small delay in sound very small like 100ms but still visible. Can you please explain me why? the ps5 is set to linear pcm, the hdmi is set to bypass in the av ...and the video is flawless no delay perfect ..but the sound seems to be coming a little late . thank you in advance
I’m confused as half the people say use LPCM as audio format. I have lgcx Sonos arc surround and sub and have tv set to pass through. Wouldn’t I want LPCM ?
I don't think the game audio is natively in dolby or dts. If you select bitstream for game audio, the ps5 encodes the audio into dolby or DTS, so the audio is being compressed. For regular and 4k blurays, you can set the player to bitstream for dolby atmos, dts x, etc.
It's instant encoding in DD or DTS. Best experience in open world games, like Ghost of Tsushima
i connect my ps5 to my LG C9, then transfer sound via earc, and select the dolby mode on my ps5, unfortunately these is a very clear delay of the sound, so i think the lpcm will be the better idea?
if i have my ps5 connected direct to tv and my soundbar connected via hdmi (arc) what hdmi device sould i select TV or Soundbar for best sound.
I am trying to select “bitstream” from BD settings but option is not available. I can only choose “PCM” as bitstream is present but it seems not activated. I use UHD HDMI CABLE. AV is Anthem MRX 520 that support DTS HD MASTER AUDIO & DOLBY TRUE HD encoding. I really don’t understand….can you help me?….thanks..
Great video, I also own a soundbar but do not have that option under HDMI device type. My soundbar is connected to my Samsung television. What I need to connect it directly to my PS5?
@Digital Trends today i got a problem where my headset is not working on ps5 controller. Its HyperX Cloud Stringer Core headset for ps5, it works well on my pc but today it just sounds very muffled and distorted on ps5.
I rebuilt database, turned off 3d audio, changed 3d audio settings, even did a system software update from the safe mode and still no luck. Could you please help me out with what I can do?
Corsair void pro headset support Dolby Atmos 7.1 surrounding sound in my pc via iCUE software. I like to purchased PS5. As PS5 do not support iCUE software, do PS5 will support Dolby Atmos 7.1 surrounding sound which Corsair void pro headset default providing?
For the LG cx sound settings… changing the output to PCM… should I disable Dolby atmos option as well since ps5 doesn’t support Dolby atmos?
@Digital Trends, can you help me? I would like to buy a good headphone, which one is perfect for dolby atmos, Netflix, movies on TV or PS5, gaming etc.... But i'm completely lost in those products... Can you suggest me a good headphone for this purpose??? Thank you for advance!
Sennheiser 600/560s
I find I get little or no output from my sub when using LFE? It turns on doesn't seem to do anything? Maybe it's more subtle for games? On MGSV the sub doesn't even turn on? Is this normal?
Need help please. I’m frustrated with not getting Atmos.
Am I doing something incorrectly on the settings? I believe i followed all that is mentioned here.
On the verge of returning PS5 for XBox X. I’m good with either of these on the gaming content side. But want immersed sound effect while playing both games and BlueRay discs with movies.
Current setup:
TV: Sony XBR900F
AVR: Yamaha VX680 (5.2.2)
Speakers: Klipsch &2x downfiring Atmos speakers.
Connection: Console - Yamaha - TV (eARC)
I have a ps5 hooked to a Sony x900h TV and a older Sony ct370 soundbar. Numerous times I had to reset my TV to get sound. The soundbar or TV wouldn't produce sound. Not sure if it's the 2.1 hdmi port or something else. I'll switch it to these settings and see if it will continuously work
I have an LG CX which has Dolby Atmos TV speakers built-in, should I still enable PCM on the PS5?
I’ve been using an old 5.1 yamaha receiver with boston acoustic speakers. It only accepts optical input from tv, no hdmi inputs.
I was thinking of upgrading to a sony str hd790 and getting a couple of upfiring speakers. I have since found out that ps5 has no dolby atmos other than blu ray playback. Even the netflix and prime apps cannot output dolby atmos on ps5. This is very disappointing 😭
For the Sonos Arc soundbar... should I use Dolby or PCM ?
I have a Samsung tu8000, it supports Dolby digital plus. Should I turn on Dolby on the ps5?
My setup: TV+soundbar+PS5. If u connect ps5 directly to TV, how to get maximum sound quality from soundbar? Some people had issues of sound quality - they noticed that the sound quality was bettter when connected PS5 directly to soundbar - not to TV. How to fix that?
I use sony headphones for my ps5, but i am willing to buy that 3d pulse headphone if you can confirm me that they actually do better 3d sound, our i will end up with same sound?
Guys sometimes i like to play ps5 ..via OLED TV without headphones when playing Call of Duty Black ops i like to hear the online players rage voices coming out of my sound bar BUT THE VOICE CHAT AUDIO in Call of Duty multiplayer KEEPS COMING OUT OF MY PS5 CONTROLLER ..and not my TV OR SOUNDBAR SPEAKERS ...how can i get the voice audio to come of my sound bar.
Why is my old PS4 headset sounding muffled when playing games on the PS5?
Here’s an odd situation using my Denon AVR-X2400H Atmos receiver with my PS5. Films and Dolby Atmos no problem. BUT - when Dolby or DTS 5.1 is in play, the sound suddenly randomises! For example, I play Batman 80 th anniversary DVD which has 5.1, plays great. Play Agents of Shield blu ray which has DTS 5.1 and the receiver plays in stereo?! Same with games, Ratchet & Clank 5.1 no problem. Marvels Avengers the game STEREO??? Can anybody help? No matter the settings chosen I have the same outcome?
Can you connect your soundbar with bluetooth with the ps5 cause im using my pc monitor and i dont have optical outlet.
Here's my setup. Ps5 sends signal to a LG C1 tv, tv send audio by arc to an LG home theater. I know noticed when starting the last of us 2, that in game, I can't set up 5.1 audio while setting the console to pcm. Only bitstream or DTS. But then, it introduces audio delay. I've tried several tv settings like bypasses and what not but nothing seems to help. Any tips?
What about television speakers on the LG CX that can decode Dolby …still set it to linear pcm?
Is there a way to get good surround sound on regular Blu rays? 4k Blu rays sound great but regular Blu rays don't for some reason. I'm using an LG C9 and JBL Bar 9.1 with earc for my ps5
I have an lgsk10y soundbar. Dolby Atmos worked fine on my xbox one X. On the ps5 I don't have Dolby bitstream like this video in settings. Just Dolby. So when I try and select bitstream in the movie settings it's greyed out. Any ideas please?
Excellent and really informative video❤️👍🔥💯
Thank god! This vid helped me out a lot. Bitstream sounds so much better then pcm. On my system anyway. PlayStation never replied to me.
Ok so help me out here. I have a 5.1 home theater system. What's the best option for me to use with my ps5. Thanks
Hi yves here.
I have a for you question is it better to use dolby audio or dolby atmos on my ps5 when i have arc on my avr receiver and earc on my tv.
I want to have the best audio for watching series, gaming and listening music. What is your opinion, which is better. In want to use surround, but don’t know what to do.
Kind Regards yves
I listen to the audio of the Ps5 with a Bose soundbar, has it ever happened to any of you that changing the various audio formats from linear Pcm, dolby or Dts produces a distorted metallic sound as if it goes wrong?
What if the TV speakers themselves are capable of Dolby sound...is it still preferable to use Linear?
I can’t get surround today decode in my account receiver. I just get pcm. My ps5 is hooked up to the receiver and then to the tv. There’s no options anywhere for bitstream like the PS3 had
i have a dolby atmos soundbar my ps5 says it’s using dolby but in the tv sound settings it shows dolby digital not dolby digital plus which is the atmos setting
Should I leave my sound bar on stereo? Or put it into surround sound mode, or 3d surround sound mode?
I need a video on how to out put the chat audio to my soundbar because it only comes out through the controller.
Hey there I have a question
Since my soundbar is only 3.1.2 ch, is there any difference with using PCM and Bitstream? Because it will introduce lag if I use Bitstream Dolby or DTS on my Ps4
I have AV amplifier I guess. Sony ht s500rf. And I have LG nano cell with one arc HDMI. I still don't understand the connectivity setup you mentioned! Is there any chance you can help me?
I get a slight delay on my sound bar playing Blu Ray's through my PS5, it's fine when I use Bluetooth? Anyone know the problem
Since Bitstream Dolby and DTS are being recommended here it makes me curious how many others have issues with audio delay on those settings even with pass through turned on? I have an LG C1 with a Vizio Elevate and the audio delay with Dolby is noticeable.
I have a Sony A8H and just hooked up a ps3 to it, should I have RGB set to Full or Limited? I mainly just play COD mm2 occasionally on it
I have a kick-ass BOSE soundbar with a separate wireless bass module. Sound is great for everything including gaming but the only way you can get 3D audio on the PS5 is with headsets which I don’t like to use. I’m hoping they come out with 3D support for other external audio devices soon.
I run my PS5 through my ARC, because my receiver isn’t capable of outputting HDR, but it’ll only output in Dolby Digital 5.1. I miss out on TrueHD sound as a result.
Hi, I have a high-end av amp and I wanted to know about my ps5 for the games can you advise me pcm or blistream??? thank you
how about Soundbars with rear speakers like the JBL Bar 9.1? if i select Soundbar it is only 2 channels. Can is select a AV for my 5.1 Setup with the soundbar?
I'm using a Samsung n850 soundbar with the lg oled and Im having a few issues. I plugged my arc cable from my soundbar to my earc TV and then I plugged my ps5 hdmi cable from console to 120hz hdmi in TV but the ps5 won't detect my soundbar. I have to plug the ps5 hdmi cable straight to my soundbar and then the ps5 detects the soundbar in sound settings. However by doing this I'm losing my 120hz but gaining my 7.1 Dolby Atmos
