Great review. I think the reel is the most under-rated piece of fishing equipment used. A bad reel can make for a long day. Well done and best of luck on your next outing!
This reel is excellent!!! I love it. Caught forty 1lb - 2lb size Snook in under an hour last year April and since then it has not failed. Rinsed with fresh water, Stripped down, wiped out and some Penn oil on the shaft and drag washers...it has NOT lost its smoothness and functionality in any way!!!
Ive had this reel for over a year ive abused it not oiled it or greased it or even rinsed it out. Still holding up great no rust i took it apart last week and put some fresh grease and oil and its like a brand new reel again
That minus a couple bearings and a direct-drive handle. Tbh you could probably drop some carbon fiber washers in it and it’d be just as good as the pursuit
You get what you pay for you can’t beat the persuit 4 I wouldn’t use this reel unless I had no other choice it would be a good starter reel but you can always buy a used penn that’s better then this one for the same price
JC, I think you are doing a great service to those fisherman seeking a quality product at reasonable price. Just wondered if you would provide specs on the rod used with this reel. Thx Chris
Great review. I have the 4000 and the 5000 in this reel. The only thing I have had trouble with, due to my negligence probably, is that my anti reverse bearing had a bit of water inside it and it Rusted fast. I cleaned it out using a product in South Africa called Q Fish and oiled it up again. All is well. I fish a lot (once or twice a week) and I have caught many fish and sharks with these reels. The reels are over a year old and they are still running.
Hey JC I've had many different reels & not one has rust on them. I have a more then a 10 year basspro combo spin caster & she still runs perfect like out of the box but the only thing is the paint is fading & I've caught many fish on the basspro spin combo. Ill try to find the reel you have to catch fish to. Thanks for the review in your penn rath fishing reel.
I've been using my grandad's vintage Penn spinfisher 7500 for so cal surf and pier fishing. It was an awesome reel but the drag doesn't work anymore and sometimes the reel slips especially with a fish on. So I got the Penn wrath 8000 for my 12' rod because it was the only thing I could find within my budget that I trusted. Gonna put 30ilb braid on it, let's hope it's $50 well spent and serves me well
Hi jc I currently own the combo with the 5000 size reel looking to get the mead light combo I can't say anything bad about this combo it's going very well the Penn wrath with the 5000 size reel thanks 🐟
Certainly a great reel for the money. I'm going to try the Penn Wrath 5000 paired with a Penn Squadron II travel rod in Sardinia in a few days time. Just a brief trip so going light. Hopefully I can tag a cuda from the rocks somewhere. Going light on the rod, and fairly heavy on the reel. The only thing I would say in addition to your review is that they are pretty heavy. However, I like this with the Penn brand. Like a small block Chevy V8, these reels are bombproof. Tight lines, and thanks for this video.
Have you given any thought to doing away with your 4000 reels? There is some 2500 these days that will do everything a 3000 and 4000 will do. One and probably the best option would be the Penn Battle 3 DX in 2500 has enough drag, line plus those upgraded gears. Penn conflict, Diawa freugo, and nasci also come to mind. I am in process of doing this I am going with Penn DX in 2500 and 5000 and that should take care of all my needs inshore and near shore fishing. I just dont see a need for a 3000 or 4000 these days.
For saltwater fishing, I'll stick with the 4000s for a lot of types of fishing I do. I like the line retrieval ratio and also a 4000 size real has a much larger spool than a 2500 so I can cast further. The weight of a 4000 real is not an issue for me. I just find that a 4000 is a really good all-around size reel for a lot of the types of fishing I do.
Up here in NS alot of use 5000+ reels for fishing the heavy current rivers and basins for 20lb striped bass. They will burn out 2500 reels quick with the big tide currents
I bought a 4000 at Walmart and when I got home it fell out of bag sitting kitchen counter to floor. Wrath of Khan is what I ended up getting. Didn’t even get to put line on it so…..
Penn reals only last six months for me. Junk cast internal gears. Get them wet and they freeze up or make reeling difficult. Shimano is basically the same crap. I have had a Mitchell 300 for 40 years and it is still going strong. Minor spring replacements and other small maintenance. I take the bearings and screws from my penn and shimano and upgrade cheaper reels with them. They last longer than the penn or shimano. I used to be diehard for both brands until they went cheap internals.
@@RadReelingFishing also the handles on the wrath is slightly different from the pursuit and fierce. I agree with your video, I have a 4000 wrath and for the money it’s a durable reel. I fish the Chesapeake Bay and it’s held up for 2 years. I want to upgrade the felt washers to carbon but don’t know which ones to buy.
JC, four months of your fishing is probably four years for the average person. Awesome video!
Love your shows! Here in Tampa for a week. Staying in largo. Can’t wait to get out there today

From the looks of it, the Wrath is the Pursuit III minus the HT-100 Drag Washers.
You have an Excellent point Frankie,
That minus a couple bearings and a direct-drive handle. Tbh you could probably drop some carbon fiber washers in it and it’d be just as good as the pursuit
@@noahleonard6075 yeah but when you buy those upgrades might as well buy the Pursuit iii...it'll cost close to the same on a new one.

Thanks for the review. Just got a 2500 in and ready to try. This is my 4th Penn!
Seems a lot smoother and nice than my 90's spinfisher and it has instant anti reverse. Reels just keep getting better.
Until u hook on to a big fish and youll want that spinfisher v back quick lmao

Been looking forward to this one. Thanks for the video!
Great Vid JC, I swapped out the fiber drags on my Wrath 8000, and the carbon makes a world of difference. Tight Lines Brother.
What brand of blue braid are you using on your wrath? I wanna know what’s the best braid is to use in your opinion!
I like to use this brand, usually in yellow: amzn.to/3NvvTOz

How do i find the carbon fiber washers?
I love it too bought two of them, Walmart selling them for $40 bucks up north

I've never even heard of this reel before. Thx for sharing 🤙
Have several of the Penn Fierce and Battle reels. Great reels!! I still use my old Mitchell 300s and 302s. Good reels even today!
Hey JC never seen that reel by Penn only the big daddy at bass pro thanks for the post catch you next time
AWESOME, Thanks JC !!

Great review....I bought one today the 5000.
Just bought one I’ll catch them with this 🐟🐠🐟
I have had my 4000 for 5 years, not a single issue.

Change out the felt drags with carbon fiber drag. I did and it is amazing difference.
How do I go about getting the carbon fiber washer?
Can you check out the persuit 4 when it drops? Considering you loved the 3 I could only wonder what you would say about the 4
Also. I have the wrath 6000. It works great up in jersey for stripers and dogfish
I bought a 4000 at Walmart and when I got home it fell out of bag sitting kitchen counter to floor. Wrath of Khan is what I ended up getting. Didn’t even get to put line on it so…..
good job as always
JC what rod did you pair the wrath with, I’m thinking an ugly stick gx2 7’ or penn squadron 11 7’
The GX2 is a great rod. The ugly stik Inshore Select is a good one too.
If I had a choice out of the Penn Pursuit 4 and the Wrath 2 which one should I go with? Which one will last longer? And which one is overall better?
Penn Pursuit
@@RadReelingFishing thank you 🙏🏽
Great video thanks
Mine is still working fine.
Nice review !!!
You gonna buy some pursuit 4 reels
It depends on the price my friend.
The next future reel to get aka upgrade , level up to , penn slammer
Yeah, I was looking at the slammers today. Those things are sealed up really good.
What would recommend between the 6000 and a abu garcia pro max 60 for saltwater?
I made this video a while ago about reel sizes: ruclips.net/video/MyZVHX2uc2U/видео.html

$30 for this reel sounds like a steal.
Excellent!
And the other reason besides reasonable is easy take downs and service by your self…🐟🐟🐟
Penn fierce 3 2500 has an anti Reverse switch.
Oh, not something I'd ever need (the anti revers switch). Thanks for letting me know.

Yep I got that, but I only used it in the lake. Just because I have penn Battle and Clash for
saltwater. But yes it is very budget reel..
Nice video…
Hi sir I buy this 22dollas
What size is that one?
4000
I love Penn reel
It’s a bait switch. Not a reverse switch.
After 4 months of fishing with this reel… I hucked it in the trash an bought a slammer 4
