Some new players recently! Heres some tips / A quick way to have fun / success when my video ends:
After leveling, just dump your points into Small Guns to ~100% +, and use the pistols and rifles you find. You can find a pipe rifle and 10mm pistol very quickly in Klamath, the next town. You will rarely miss when fighting the rats here at this lower level state with Small Guns this high. In this scenario, if you keep stacking small guns stat, it typically will pay off for the next several levels to be more effective in combat and kill more things at a distance and get more loot from fights....rather than put points into first aid, bartering, etc. Don't put points into any other weapon skill until you feel like you have diminishing returns with Small Guns. 3 good weapons to consider: a pistol with lower AP cost, a long range rifle, and a burst fire submachinegun or burst auto-shotgun when they are close. If you have enough AP/Agility, you should be able to use a shot of the low AP pistol + a burst or rifle shot all in the same turn.
thank you
I love how the show came out and you wrote this nice comment to a video you made 9 years ago. Super sweet of you, my man.
Yes...I watched the show, played the fuck out of FO4, then read online 2 was the best, bought it on steam, got frustrated, googled "How to play fallout 2" got this video.
It's hilarious so many people did exactly what I did and you are helping us now all these years later.
Fun fact for anyone playing a female character, if you name your character buffy and go to Becky in the Den you'll get armor, 1,000$, a grenade and a few other goodies. Obviously it makes you a little OP in the beginning, or if you just want cash sell it! And use it to buy the car. Happy gamin 🌻
I never knew this! Now to play gunslinger Willow
As in the vampire slayer?
@@omalleycaboose5937 yup
@@dannydumlet nice
Also, when you standstill, hold left shift to highlight item. I found this out a moment ago.
WOW! Great find!
The student becomes the teacher
also shift need to be used during sneaking if running is on auto
when i reached the end of the room, there was a guy that chalenged me to hand in hand combat, and he killed me snd my last save was waaay back... its frustrating. i quit the game lol
@@sakatis It has taken me a few tries to get through the tutorial dungeon. I made it to level 5, and I'm still not sure about the combat.
@@ganondorfdragmire7886 lvl 5??
Thanks man, sinked in over 300 hours to Fallout NV and 100 to Fallout 3 but I've never got the hang of Fallout 1 and 2 haha!
Good shit! Hopefully you enjoy the earlier games as much :D
kinda late answer but damn fallout 1 drain like hundred of hours xD
@@BelegornHK You can make it through Fallout 1 in only 15 hours or so. It's a fairly short game. Fallout 2 is more than twice as long, but nowhere near the time sink as the later titles in this IP.
@@Thagomizer fnv is really easy to beat though, you can get to the strip at level one just by going to the jean skydiving place, take a left turn, stay on the right side of the road, sneak by black mountain and get through the passage, head to mccarran, run past the guards at the monorail, when you get to the tops youll level, choose the black widow perk, screw benny (literally), kill him in his sleep, find yesman, everything else you could do pretty easily.. if you mean it has a lot of content though then yes
I never understood how to play the earlier on games of fallout and now I can. Thanks man I appreciate!!! I love fallout
When you have to watch a 25 minute guide just to beat the tutorial...
Classic FO. I remember wasting hours learning how to play in FO1.
So i am not the only one
honestly overatted af i just got scammed by some redditor ass fallout fans and wasted my money on this shit game 3d fallouts are infinitely better
me too bro, me too
Punch the bugs hard
Step 1 - Make a high Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Perception character. Make sure that “Gifted” is one of your traits and tag “Speech,” “Science,” and “Energy Weapons.”
Step 2 - Finish Temple of Trials by talking the guy down.
Step 3 - Run to San Francisco-after looking up location on internet-and talk to the Brotherhood’s representative there for a quest to Navarro.
Step 4 - Run to Navarro and pick up Advanced Power Armor Mk.I and Plasma Caster (with its ammo)
Step 5 - Proceed to play the game by finishing quests and objectives.
Played this game nights and night 18 years ago. Time flies by quickly.
Playing this year again.
Thank you so much. I had started fallout 2 about four times after
learning incredibly important mechanics after hours of game play. This
has saved me many more restarts.
green area means that you are traveling within a given location / town. i.e-from east den to the west part of den city. Red area or brown means you are leaving the local area and will go into the travel map view. hope this helps, its obvious if you've played for a while but it's still an important distinction to make. Also for traits don't take skilled go for gifted or neither.
Interesting fact, that girl at 21:23 is the daughter of the first fallout character. Your character in this game is also a relative, if not, the son of that girl, if I remember correctly... could be wrong though.
Yeah the chosen one is her son/daughter, because he/she is the grandchild of the Vault Dweller. Like you said, the Elder is the child of the Vault Dweller, so the Elder is the Chosen One's parent
Loving FO3, New Vegas, and 4 as I do I’ve wanted to like FO2 but failed to wrap my head around the keyboard commands more than once. When it was new I was focused on paying bills and putting food on the table. Now I’m old and I can relax and play.
Seeing FO2 on Steam, not knowing what I did with the earlier purchases, I bought it again. How many old games have been reworked to run with today’s computers. I’m guessing only the best. I really want to like/play this old school game. Too many people rate it high in all-time favorites for it to be the kludge it seemed to me.
I’ve learned more in a few minutes of your tutorial than all the other times. I may actually get into it and enjoy it as I wish. The desire to help others is what sets Homo Sapiens from all others. Many thanks young man!
Thanks for this! Fallout 1 & 2 definitely have a really severe learning curve to start. But are well worth the time sink.
Just got the game about 10 minutes ago, booted up and installed so thx a lot for this basic breakdown. Helped a lot man.
Boom! Have fun dood
@@coolnamesTV I'm having a blast so far.
This video has been very educational. Thank you. The older Fallouts are very different from any game I've played. Ive always wanted to get into them but i find it difficult.
I was shitting myself ,being killed by ants and barely passing the tutorial ,thanks a lot man,had no idea you had that VATS like thing ,luv ya.
7 years late.....but great video, it helped me a ton playing these early fallout games for the first time. I appreciate this a ton!
glad it helped dude :D
For someone who REALLY wants to get into this game but can't get past the first level and kill a few rats to begin with, this came out as a GREAT help. Thankyou, sir!
***** You are welcome dude. Hope you enjoy those old games...I know I do!
youre like the dad i never had wtf you literally are explaining this like im your son thank you
im here for you....always
2024 and the video is still helping people out.
💪
I've probably wasted 1000+ hours on fallout 3 and new vegas collectively over the years, so I've been looking to try out the previous entries. This video helped me a lot with the learning curve.
New player. This was so insanely helpful thank you! I remember growing up these days when games were so much more difficult bc they didnt spell it out for you you had to learn and hard as you went along.
Your attitude and straight-shooter way of describing things had me insta-sub.
Right on dude, appreciate that.
They aren't RPGs but I have two games I made that are on Steam if you are interested 💪😎

@@coolnamesTV I like your poker game, I'll pick it on payday.
@@mickhoward3954 awesome! Let me know what you think, and especially if you find any bugs. I will be working on putting leaderboards inside the game this weekend!
It’s the constant misses made me feel like I had absolutely no clue
I really appreciate your simple explanation of the turn-based combat. That was always something I never understood. Thanks man!
great tutorial. This game is not forgiving at all, but I'm committed to finishing it.
Thanks for doing this I beat fallout 1 but this definitely helped with my experience with fallout 2
Thanks for making this video. If I'd bought Fallout 1 or 2 when they came out, I imagine a lot of the controls would have been covered in the instruction manual (as opposed to newer games, that use in-game tutorials for that kind of thing). Unfortunately, Steam games don't come with instruction manuals :(
Was looking for a way to weapon switch, as I couldn't remember how to do it (played many years ago, and F1 didn't seem to have it, unless I am just blind). Was not disappointed. Thank you!
This video helped me tons when I was trying to get into the game. It definitely helped me understand the feel of the game play. Thank you for the effort you put into this!
I would so watch a playthrough of this. Especcialy on how to actually get a gun and start playing. Im talking about you Keen Ra'at!
I just seem to suck at this game. I really like it and want to like it.
I might do that sometime on a stream!
coolnames TV That'd be awesome! :D
***** Thank you!
He didn't include the best tip for how to play, save scumming.
if your having trouble at the start, try to scrounge 350 dollars to buy suliks freedom at buckner. he is by far the best companion in the early game and you can get him extremely easily. remember to get the 100 dollars out of your aunts tent at the south west, right before going to the bridge area. you can sell whatever junk you find for another 100 and you should have 352 dollars if you spent none. the money is well worth it. you will probably get your first good small gun at modoc, while traveling to vault city after going to the den. youll get the assault rifle from finishing the modoc main quest.
Fantastic guide. I've always wanted to get into the classic fallout games but would be able too. Thanks for the help!
DeeJay877 Glad it helped bro. Have fun :D
I'm quite ashamed of myself because I could not figure out how to leave the world map, but now I know + a lot of other useful stuff as well. Thanks!
+Wailer Have fun playing dude!
coolnames TV I will! Thanks again.
Hey Im actually just got it free as a holliday offer on EPIC games. Im a fan of Fallout 3 and New vegas. I have just realized that is really hard to play or I missed the gameplay logics for a 90s game. I had only played a couple of 90s games like DOOM, Duke Nukem etc.
Thank you for this video, i just started playing fallout 2 and keep dying. I rage quit after i accidentally picked up the c4 after dropping it and couldnt get it out of my inventory. Ended up killing me, didnt save and i was pissed. This will help quite a bit
I played this when it first came out, thanks for this video, was so confused as how to pick it back up again!
Thanks bro, that helped a lot. Games were really build different back in the 90s.
Thank you so much for this, I've always struggled with the classic FO games.
Blue M0nday Very welcome! Hope it helped
I know its an old video but i've tried so many times to play and got frustrated, i tried again and saw your video and i'm having a lot o fun with this game, just had to leave a comment and a like as a thank you.
I've been playing this game for the past few days and its so badass. Putting the right number of points in the skill tree is very important as I learned, ie: you can't use many weapons with only 4 strength...
Waifu San Sick bro, yeah i was planning on making a 'character creation' tutorial too to go over short and long term ramifications for high/low stats you pick. Glad you are digging the game :D
Hey man thanks so much was having so much trouble with the trial and basic game play this is my first classic fallout glade you made this video so I was able to stick with it
Right on! Really hope you enjoy it and glad the video helped!
Thanks for making this mate, helped a ton. Do you know of any other keyboard shortcuts I could use? It bugs me that I have to click on everything to get things done.
Hey thanks dude, this is a really great intro to playing.
i like your voice, no other reason why i picked this over anyone else so thankyou
Brilliant video man. Just picked this up a few days ago and played through Fallout 1
right on 💪
The forced tutorial just killed the game for me idk maybe if the village spent less time building a huge underground temple filled with giant ants and scorpions just for the purpose of getting a vault suit maybe they would not need a geck just saying another thing forcing me to tag either melee or unarmed also angers me in the future with all those guns not to mention Enclave troops, DeathClaw and Wannimago I pretty sure a pointy stick or your fist would last a whole of five seconds before they gib mr tribal.
Super Sledge and Power Fist are pretty OP but definitely do add an additional bit of difficulty. Agree with you about the temple, lol
You must hate almost every single video game that exists since they all pretty much force you through a tutorial. Also fallout 2 doesn't even have a tutorial so what are you talking about?
commandrock37 You can reason with him and not fight, ya know.
You can't if you're dumb or if your speech is low. You can also steal a key from him and open the exit door.
Dude the sheer power of a maxed out unarmed character is absolutely insane
A scene that defined the game for me was when I was walking towards DEN and came across the enclave with big power armors killing poor innocent people.
Travos k /this happened to me yesterday. poor people.
Don't worry one day, you're gonna beat their asses
What do you think about Killap’s Restoration Patch?
Coming from Fallout New Vegas and the other games like 3 and 4. This classic is so TEDIOUS. Sure I used to play an old game like this like ride of nations but argh this game is tough.
Thank you for making this. Perfect video for friends you want to show these games to.
:D
glad it helped dude
Thanks, I always needed a guiding hand for FO1/2
Westy Hope it helped dude
Hey man. Thanks *so much* for making this!! I was a console guy when I was younger, so I never played many isometric RPG's- especially those with D&D based systems (which I understand this to have). Having played games almost daily for over 25 years made the fact that I bought this on steam yesterday and still couldn't figure out how the hell the game works after an hour of playing very, very frustrating!
I was completely missing the fact that *everything* costs _action points_ (which I assumed were only applicable to combat). I still don't really understand how they work since it seems in the video like if you have 9, then use 5 to move and 4 to hit (leaving you with zero), you just all of a sudden just have 9 again without having done anything to earn them. But I guess I don't really need to understand that.
If you ended up making a player-creation video like you mentioned at the beginning of this one, I'm going to go watch that one now. But, even if you didn't, this video was *so* helpful! Making, editing, and posting a video on how to play a 20 year-old game is time consuming and not a money-maker, so hopefully you at least understand how appreciated it is by people.
Your action points are refilled once all other characters/enemies take their turn. On the character screen, you can see your Sequence stat that will determine your 'place in line' as all characters are taking their turn.
Glad it helped!
little late lmao but just started the older one's and i remember about a year ago i tried and got so pissed off couldn't do it but come back a year later and am hooked even tactics which i thought i was never gonna be able to play is great.... idk what it is about the og games even like daggerfall and arena in the elderscrolls universe has me pulled in and i cannot stop playing em haha. thanks for the video
THANK YOU, You saved my experience I now understand the mechanics of this game so I can enjoy a franchise I love more.
👍👍
Thanks for your efforts and this good tutorial 🙂👍🏻
this is such a well-viewed tutorial that i was genuinely shocked when he said the word shit
Still waiting for that character creation video 4 years later
damn! maybe i will when i get some free time....think it would be fun to do :)
@@coolnamesTV Lolz thank you i really have been waiting 4 years lolz
Thanks. This helped me. I've wanted to play Fallout 2 for years, and can never figure it out. I always die early, and then give up.
right on dude, Enjoy!
playing this on Feb 6, 2024 and this video helps a lot
if you end your turn (by pressing the turn option above the combat option) during combat, your remaining ability points get added to your armor class. or whatever the AC stands for
this was of little help to me (trying to decide if I should restart), but I will direct people on the edge about this game to this video
Thanks for the info. I was stuck on how to fight.
💪💪💪
Thanks this is a really detailed tutorial, now I'm gonna try to play 2
Renousim have fun man, hope it helps
how tf do you even get past the first door
You right click
Thanks for the video! helped alot. I was wondering are you going to make a part 2?
+Carlos the Mexican Glad it helped dude. If you need help on creating a custom character, check out some of the guides on gamefaqs
what do you think on the restoration project or whatever the mod was called.
some people say it's a must have and recomended to play with it. other say you best play first without it...
but how to adjust controls because i need right mouse button to open doors and talk to people but my right mouse button is broke so how to change the controls
Great Tutorial man !!
Thank you for making this, I found it very helpful

Have fun playing dude
Thank you so much man. This was amazing help
right on dude, enjoy the game! 💪
Can you teach me to play Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura now?
I wonder why you didn;t choose the diplomatic option with the final challenger?
Thanks for making this cool video, I was really having trouble killing crap in this game, I think now i should at least have a head start!
+MontyPizzle
Sweet! Enjoy
I know this is old, but if you still answer questions, why is my game and mouse on 5 fps but yours is smooth with 60 fps?
edit: you also seem to have higher resolution. how is that?
so fun, I want it for tablet, it would be a perfect fit.
+Adam Crestani
Yeah it would be!
You can! Just look up ExaGear and follow the instructions.
The Resistance very cool, thanks
Are you using the config tool to get your game to look that clear. What are you doing to make it look it that good? I ran the config tool and could not get it to look like that unless I had crazy bars on the side and it looked tiny. How'd you do it?
Rapp tture Try setting the scaling up in the resolution settings screen. I believe I am using x2 scaling
coolnames TV did the x2 scaling and it reverts the screen to 640x480 will not change from that resolution. I put it in windowed mode, it let the mouse off the screen and I was able to basically fit it into 3/4 of the monitor at some strange resolution. It looks better but I know I'm doing it wrong. Thanks for the help.
Rapp tture Ya, I am pretty sure I was playing at 640x480 x2. Yep, so a 3:4 resoultion. With the Fallout image and my webcam on the side, the resolution of the video is 720p, so sounds right. And I was playing windowed as well. The newer support for large resolutions is cool, but I liked playing with the scaling on and windowed. Hope that helps
This was extremely helpful
How do you recommend to distribute skill points at level up? Dump them all in one skill or level them up evenly
first few levels, get your primary offensive skill to 100+ as quickly as possible (small guns, melee, etc) 😎
coolnames right on. Thank you so much dude
coolnames Hey, I another question if that’s okay? What’s a good way to get 10mm early in the game I’m in Klamath just doing the various side quests at the moment and need ammo.
@@matthew-dq8vk First, top right of Klamath main town is Vic's shop. Pipe rifle in there with ammo.
To get 10mm pistol in Klamath through normal questing, go down in the rat sewers. The entrance to the sewers should be on the Klamath map where there are 3 people around a campfire when you enter.
In the tunnels, there is a dead body killed by fallen rocks with one on it....from what I remember. Careful of the rat boss and the mole rats 😎
Over the years I've tried three times to finish FO2, never made it past 10hrs. It's just to difficult with a lot of nagging problems.
i have completed it over 9 times since it's release. you son, need to git gud.
>"git gud" in 2017
>* >* in current year.
GIRUGAMESH!
just beat it the second time this year, same with fallout 1.
How do you use vats for weapons?
Plz I have advanced power ado our and I still don't know how
You right click the weapon slot until there is a round target marker at the bottom of the slot.
sivoism but the gun I only see reload and burst
This isn't an isometric view. Isometric view is when the axes create 60/120 degree angle with each other in the projection.
I have one question how do I play the music soundtrack in this game I got the combat radio already great video
powerarmordivision Not sure what you mean dude. But, just search for the fallout2 soundtrack here on YT or on the net if you want to hear it outside of the game
I have not bought the game but I enjoyed the video! I'll get it eventually
Great tutorial. BTW can this knowledge carry for the original?
HeadShot0115 Hey thanks. Yes, most of the core gameplay discussed here is relevant both in Fallout 1 and in Fallout Tactics as well.
Thank you :)
good vid any advice on how fix the color problem on my game?
Well..... _that_ question means nothing to nobody.
Very nice tutorial, thank you
Glad it was helpful!

I loved the video it helped alot! perfect timing too i just bought it on steam, i was wondering if you knew HeXen or Hexen II and if you could do something like this with #2 with that one, def b worth watching just as this one is. i wouldn't know half this stuff in this one w/o this video . Great Job!

Nice! Glad it helped
Thanks you helped a lot
so I can get this game at gog games, but how do I get the newest best version? probably thru Steam. But does steam add on the new patches? but will Steam's version allow me to play with Windows 7? Gog games does all the work for me when I buy the game and modifies it to make it compatible with my newer computer. that is great. However, the gog game version probably doesn't have the patches or new updates.
No idea my man, I own an original disc and also bought on Steam. Pretty sure you can download the patches/addons for the original game if need be. Website that comes to mind is 'no mutants allowed', google em
Thanks so much, this is not like other RPGs I've played. Also unlike probably everyone who is watching this, I had this game on CD and found it in a CD book I had, I'm the last of a dying breed.
Very helpful thanks
Im a console player and love playing all the fallouts on ps3 and 76 and 4 on ps5. I just bought a laptop just to play the earlier series but i cannot figure it out 😂( almost never use a pc ) thank you for the tips

Top notch!
