Thanks for the simple video, just recently got the Fallout classic collection through Steam for only $6 since it was on sale, been wanting to play the earlier games for awhile since I already beat 3 and NV. Most of the other tutorials on RUclips were much longer and barely covered anything and one even went into spoilers without any warning, so your video is still very helpful lol.
Been a massive fallout fan since i played 3 but I've only just now gotten 1 and 2 to try out and by god they are different lol. I was able to pick up a little on how to play by messing around with stuff but i was clunky with everything this video helped me understand the mechanics better. Can't wait to play them more it's kinda fun, i hope they remake these in the 1st/3rd person style at some point that'd be cool
PVT. Domthestar I highly suggest saving any time you are about to travel, either on a new save or over a current. That way if you get a really bad random encounter then you don't get screwed. Personally I save over my current save and then have a separate save for halfway through the travel.
PVT. Domthestar A lesson taught really early that you need to save before and after every conversation, travel, or battle lol. It really bites me in the ass whenever I forget, it's like the game knows you didn't save and you then encounter deathclaw

Just got fallout 1 and 2 because they were on sale, and I'm a huge fan of the other games. I was completely lost at first, but this really helped me out. Thanks so much :)

Hunter Lee you don’t get to decide who’s a fallout fan, if someone says they like fallout then there a fan. And just because you understand the mechanics of a video game doesn’t mean you’re smarter than someone who doesn’t. The fact that you think it does shows how incredibly idiotic you really are.
Mike but what kind of idiot does it take to not understand these simple mechanics. What I said might have come off as harsh but I’m assuming that he just started fallout 4 and thinks that’s fallout. If you have only played fallout 4 and think ur a fallout fan ur not because that really shouldn’t even be called fallout. I’m assuming he’s a fallout fan because I’ve noticed that most of the people that crap all over these games saying it’s mechanics don’t make sense or that the graphics suck therefore is a bad game, are usually fallout 4 fans
The original Fallouts are not action games. They are traditional rpg, so you need to have a mind set that combat are more like stats simulations than base on the players/gamers skills. For inspiration, watch videos about table top RPG where you just toss dice to determine whether your attacks are successful or not and you just have to imagine the entire action using your creativity. eg: You role a bad role and you failed the check, so you'll just have to imagine that somehow you fumbled up your stance ruin your timing and the enemy see through your attack and evaded it effectively. In game graphics you might wonder how could it missed on such a point blank range when the enemy is just there standing dead still? well thats when you have to imagine stuff to justify the miss. maybe you got distracted at the last moment, maybe your hand just slipped up, maybe the enemy moves to fast, etc Thats how traditional RPG games works. They are made to be turn-based because you'll to fill in using your creativity what happens during the game. If you realized that then you'll have that mind set that turn based system is in fact the best system for these kind of games.

Ac does not represent your damage resistance it determines how often you will dodge an enemy’s attack the higher the armor class (ac) the more likely you will dodge an enemy’s attacks
Armor class is something from the table top era where you would have to roll to hit and if it was greater than or equal the targets armor class it would hit otherwise it wouldn't hit
Hey, so I just but the classic collection that contains Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, do you think I should play tactics, from what I heard it is not cannon. I don't know weather its still worth playing.
+darkstar 1651 I've never actually gotten around to playing it, but a lot of hardcore Fallout fans consider it canon. Some of the games make references to it, but technically it isn't canon. If anything, it can give a temporary history to a part of the United States until a future game rewrites it.
yes i know an old comment but just in case anyone is having the same problem : right-click on your weapon until it says "reload" then left-click, this way it costs only 2 AP but you won't be able to choose which ammo to use (there is a difference between 5mm JMK and 5mm AP)
I hate to give the unhelpful answer but I prefer both for their own reasons. Both games are a 10/10 for me. I'll say why I like each: Fallout 1 is shorter and easier, with one of my favorite villains in a video game. There are fewer towns and fewer quests than in 2 but the game as a whole is very fresh and interesting the entire way through. It is excellent with writing. The game is simpler than the 2nd but still has plenty of content and fun, and is maybe my favorite of the two. Fallout 2 is clearly built upon what Fallout 1 established. There are bigger towns, more towns, more quest lines, more companions, the combat is a little more frustrating/difficult but also is a little more diverse, the writing is still excellent. Overall Fallout 2 is a better fleshed out game in terms of content and length. The beginning of the game kinda sucks though so either get a mod to skip the temple of trials or just power through it as best as you can. I definitely recommend both games though
@@JebusChrust Alright, thank you. I own both and tried to play them, but couldn't get into them from the beginning, but I'm eager to try again. This video helped me a lot, but do you have any idea where I could get such a mod for Fallout 2?

This may be a dumb question, but how do you have your UI and text so large on your screen; I have the version of the game from the Fallout Anthology, and any time I play, the text very small and very hard to read. Can you please give me some guidance on this issue; please and thank you. Might I also add that I am mainly talking about Fallout 1, since that is the one I am currently playing.
+erikmiller11 Not a dumb question at all! I play through Steam which upon starting up the game, asks whether I want to play in high definition or classic mode. High definition seems to make the UI really small so I use the classic mode. There is a patch that I found which can help you out: www.mediafire.com/download/i5m8zimscps6rmy/Fallout1_High_Resolution_Patch_4.1.8+with+Zoom+V1.0.zip The zip file is safe, and contains a ReadMe on how to install and operate the patch. It's pretty helpful and in detail, hope it can help you out!
First off, thank you for the very quick response, and thank you for the file, it actually does help; but it was actually cause of your file did I find a solution, I looked at the Res application that I'm pretty sure came with the HiRes patch, and found that the Scaling 2X option is the closest with your screen, only with black bars on the side and not being ale to change the resolution to get rid of the bars.
I may have missed it in this video, but I'm trying to play and scavenging it can be hard to see things. On a walk through I was watching it looked like the guy was able to scan the room and it would highlight usable objects and items you could interact with, but I can't see to figure out how to do that.
