I always wondered what the strange hill was when I used to drive past it regularly. I was always an ardent Time Team fan, so to manage to help as a digger was literally a dream come true. Everyone was just so approachable and 100% invested in the dig. It was such a relief to know that Time Team was genuine and not simply staged. Happy days.
@@YooZherName Yes I was so excited. I was involved in local archaeology and a friend phone me to ask if I was interested. Yes. When I lived in London I didn't get to travel out as much as planned. But when people ask me what I loved about it most, I say it's because literally everywhere you put your foot there is history. Layers upon layers of rich, meaningful, very human history.

YES - even more so here in Bulgaria where I now live. I found 2 Roman enamelled broaches in the garden, a couple of bits of Roman armour, a spear tip of some age, an ancient Greek penannular broach, and up the road on an ancient hill that a rubbish tip neolithic polished axe head, quern stones, and some worked antler - the parts they threw away not the bit they wanted.
Since stumbling upon and becoming a huge fan of T.T. years ago, I have become awestruck by Stewart, his patience, knowledge and observational abilities are, to me, superb. As someone who used maps extensively in his pursuits of climbing, walking and cycling, I can really appreciate his efforts.
I think I love John. For so many episodes he's mocked (as his role in the series) , and then in something like this you see the benefit of his oversight of the environment, his skill and perseverence, his fighting his science. Fascinating

People who are both excellent in their field and fun on camera, who are just so GOOD at making everything easy to understand. Half the fun is the chemistry between people. And I don't know how it was done, maybe its something everyone's learnt over the years, but everyone is so natural for being on camera. And Tony is just this really artful blend of standing in for us the viewers who need things explained, acting at a little bit of an antagonist almost? Not genuinely haha but as sometimes a force of doubt or impatience, he adds a kind of conflict that's still always friendly and good-natured and doing that is not easy, that could be annoying and obviously it'll be entirely subjective as to whether it succeeds but for me and I think a lot of people it really does, or he and the show wouldn't be so beloved and have continued so long. This stuff that can be difficult to consciously notice but that effects the entire experience of an episode. They really have broadened my horizons, so thank you so much for posting these ♥. I have wondered though when people find things on their property do they get to keep them or are they required to give them up to museums or something?
Basically, you have to report any finds to the UK government. If the find is of value, they will pay that value to the finder. If no institution wants it though, you get to keep it.
@@miketols5420 Thank you so much for your reply! That's good to know, now I no longer have to wonder every time something is found what happens to it. Thank you again.
@@miketols5420 Kind of. Only finds that are defined as treasure by the Treasure Act 1996 have to be reported by law - mainly coin hoards, certain prehistoric metal objects and other objects containing precious metals. Other finds can be voluntarily reported under the Portable Antiquities Scheme. The loopholes in the current system have allowed some extremely rare items to disappear forever into the hands of private collectors where they are often unavailable for academics to study, or for the general public to learn from and enjoy.

I always love the rivalry they get going between John, Stewart and Phil (and some of the other archeologists) and Mick sort of has to referee. I do kind of miss that about Time Team.
I think that Stewart gets a bit slagged off too often, he often has really good insight that guides the team in the right direction, I wonder if it's because he is not an "Archeologist"? but is trained as a surveyor, or maybe he is an archeologist, but not the dig in a ditch kind? I love these shows.
Love this show. Just my 2 cents though "sometimes the only thing you find when you dig a hole is the bottom of a hole" and for an archeologist that has go to be frustrating.

Music is too loud. It overwhelms the narration by Tony.
Turn on closed captions. That'll solve it
@@MarceldeJong: Or, you know, just get someone to mix the audio properly in the first place.
@@MontyCantsin5 yes for the next videos that's a great idea.
But that can't be done after the fact.
So in this case, in order to better understand the voiceover work in this particular video turn on CC.
Didn’t notice the background Audio on the main TV with Sonos beam but was an issue on iPad, hey mute point against subject quality
What music???????, watching on iPad and not heard much music during the narration at all, perhaps I am just tone deaf. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴
To John Handley, what a great story and I am SOOO jealous. I would love to be in on a dig or clean finds or field walk. If we can ever get past Covid I would travel to England to volunteer on a site
😲 WOW it's amazing what these people find I love this show
I love Time Team videos, and living in the US I've never been too interested in British history before but I find your videos so fun and fascinating.
@@AngelinaJoy1 My pleasure
@@miketols5420 Kind of. Only finds that are defined as treasure by the Treasure Act 1996 have to be reported by law - mainly coin hoards, certain prehistoric metal objects and other objects containing precious metals. Other finds can be voluntarily reported under the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
The loopholes in the current system have allowed some extremely rare items to disappear forever into the hands of private collectors where they are often unavailable for academics to study, or for the general public to learn from and enjoy.
Note to live stream viewers:
During the last live stream. We ended up with some trolls..
As the steams grow. Sadly the chances of trolls will grow also.
When you see a troll. Use the 3 vertical dots at the end of the name you highlight. Click and then click on "block"
Please do not engage them. It changes the dynamics of the chat... Just block and move on..
Enjoy the stream.
ahh good man, will do :)
Wait, you are saying people are trolling your "amusing" drinking game? Aw, my heart is broken.
Who the hell are you? The troll police?
It will always be trolls. People are bored and this is apperently the best they can do 🤦♂️ dont sink to their level.
@@karlkarlos3545 Actually no.. They are coming on and saying low IQ things like. It's all fake...
Sorry to upset you. -_-
When ever I hear about discarded trinkets I always think of the giving during the pentecost maypole ceremony to get good luck for the coming season.
New one on me is this! TFS, GB :)
Whoever was in charge of music for this series was brilliant!
Always great to see more episodes, but think this would fit better as 'time team inconclusive' rather than a classic per se
good to see Mitch.
I would love to touch that wood and feel the history. How amazing 🥰
Stewart: An intrepid Yorkshireman!
That's just normal British banter played up a bit for the cameras. Don't think too much into it.
Love this show. Just my 2 cents though "sometimes the only thing you find when you dig a hole is the bottom of a hole" and for an archeologist that has go to be frustrating.
My 18th times Great Grandfather was Richard Earl of Cambridge. And my eldest daughter Amber and me we are all watching from all the way down under from Mount Gambier in the State Of Great Wild South Australian.

Nearly everyone is related to some kind of royalty..
I love how they wind up John all the time. What a good sport!
i do think also John is such a good sport, and never tire of seeing him say that the site 'Is a nightmare for us', greeted by raised eyebrows from the rest of the team.
The very first background music played (Not the theme music) is so beautiful! I found it on SoundCloud or something like that. It's called Green Island. What I would like to know is... Is there a longer version of this music and if so, where can I find it??? I absolutely love this one!!! There's a few others I like, but this one is my favorite!!!!
The creator of all the music had full versions of most of the music on their website some time ago. Perhaps try Wayback Machine?
@@gsf5882 Thank you. I will look for that.
How the hell did you find that if you didn't know the title of the music or who composed it?? Is it in the rolling credits???
@@ORDEROFTHEKNIGHTSTEMPLAR13 I think I just searched for background music for the show. It was in SoundCloud. That's where I found the name of it.
a wooden medieval windmill still preserved seems sort of impressive to me, but then just breezed right past that :/
@ newwavepop Did we miss something ?? I was waiting for that too. Squared oak trunks, iron bolts ?? Nothing.
Because they are not that rare, in fact a few still stand.
Very poor audio mixing. The background music was louder than Tony's voice. Hard to make out everything said.
Turn subtitles on, they are quite hilarious.
@@katerinakemp5701 You are right! Very funny!

I also do that just to see the robot and its alternative versions of wrong words....:)
You guys should take this show on the international road wheee as most other countries just ain’t doin this lol
That drawing of the Palace reminded me of Thai timber architecture, especially existing temples. I wonder if that type of timber architecture was at some stage spread over northern hemisphere?
@@UncommonSense-wm5fd I mean, I'm speculating whether prior to masonry whether similar architecture was much more wide -spread. Since similar examples exist in SE Asia.
