    Just a heads up when it comes to determining these wrong planchette error coins! Go to your local scrap yard! The ray 🔫. 🤣 mentioned in this video is something that every single scrap yard has to have on hand by federal law! The one I use locally only charges me 3$ to run the composition (ray 🔫)! And they give me a print out also! Telling me and my buyers the exact composite of the coin. Thank You Blueridgesilverhound! This video put a giant smile on my face after a super crappy week! 💯🇺🇸✌️ PS the ray 🔫 is a (metal composition analyzer)!

    Thanks for this info. I've got a bunch of these old wartime nickles that I started setting aside since back in the early 1960s. I knew that there was silver in those special mint marked coins, so into my special container they went. Thanks to my grandmother, I gained an interest in coin collecting when the good stuff was still circulating. Now I've got one hell of a collection thanks to her. She always told me that the silver coins were going to disappear from circulation much in the same way that she experienced the gold being recalled. I've got a lot of good and valuable coins in my possession thanks to her and her forward thinking. Thanks Grannie, you helped me out a lot.

    A modern metal detector in the $200 range can tell the difference by the conductivity of the two metals used. I use my detector searching for transitional coppers and will now employ it to search for transitional wartime nickels too. Nice video, thanks!

    • @wildcatcreeksurvival2414
      @wildcatcreeksurvival2414 6 лет назад +1

      Hey Troy, I'll do a video demonstrating how this is done. You turn your metal detector discriminator slowly up while passing a normal nickel over the coil. Usually around the middle of the discrimination range the metal detector will cease to read the normal nickel. At this point the detector will still read a silver nickel because they are more conductive than regular nickels. So if you have your detector set up in this fashion then a wartime nickel that does not set off the machine should be made of nickel alloy rather than silver alloy.

    If you have a metal detector, most devices use screen indicators and each metal is assigned as specific target ID, which (when found) is displayed upon the screen to let you know what the metal composition is.

    • @adamweishaupt5489
      @adamweishaupt5489 6 лет назад +2

      Merri Lundin Is the "D" convex or concave? Is it punched in, or is it risen out like the rest of the coins features? I ask because I often find them with a punched in mint mark above Monticello building. I believe people may have used them as a placeholder in their collections until they come across the correct coin. I know I hate empty spots in my collection. Either that or they sold a large bag of silver nickels and figured they could get away with throwing in some regular nickels as long as they had a stamp on the back.

    • @adamweishaupt5489
      @adamweishaupt5489 6 лет назад +2

      Merri Lundin now if your coin has a raised up mint mark, and is not a silver war nickel, which as you stated it's 1940, than you really have something interesting and quite valuable I would think.

    I have a 1943 P that has delamination on the obverse from the top of jeffersons head down to his neck, following where his spinal column would be. It bleeds through into the Reverse side. My question is will a silver manganese delaminate more than, or equal to its zinc counterpart, or will it NOT delaminate? Would that be a way to determine the composition of my coin?

    I had a injury at work and back in March and I've been at home a lot.. started going through my coins and watching love these videos. Long story short I have a good metal detector, and even before I watched your video this coin stood out to me.. so did the test, with dimes, quarters and nickel. Including a buffalo nickel & my nickel from 1943-P and two other Nickel a bit later in that century.. they all come up as nickel on the metal detector -the dimes and quarters comes up as silver on the detector.. sure I need to get it tested little bit more but I think I have a 1943-P nickel.. I could use some advice. I have never got a coin graded or put one in a auction.

      I proof read that after I sent it " I think I have a 1943-P with Nickel in it" I think it's a very good possibility.. could use some advice on how to get that certified.. and if I sent it in to get it graded will they do that. To see if it has Nickel in it..

    I have a 1945 error Jefferson made in copper non silver. You can test it by dropping it or you can flip it and hear the difference or spin it on a wood table and hear the ringing sound when it starts to fall. Definitely sounds like a copper nickel over the silver nickels. I'm thinking of selling it I have it on ebay but might send it to pcgs so i can have it verified and get more for it.

      Why don't you just throw it in the air and hit it with a baseball bat or scrub on it with a wire brush or something too while you're at it. 🤭

    Blue Hound,
    I have several coins, all from pocket change, that I have listened to you talk about.
    They are valuable beyond belief, as follows:
    1926 f indian head buffalo nickel; 1943 p non-silver nickel; 1946 s, with the trumpet tail; a 1972 d nickel that I believe is either aluminum or steel.
    I am apprehensive about sending them to grading via the mails, but don't know of anything else to do.
    Please advise.

    Sir I have one of these. I have did the sound test like you said and compared it to other Nickels of the same year and this one sounds just like a normal nickel when dropped. I have taken it to a local coin shop and the coin dealer there was an old man who didn't seem to want to help me. He said he was tired of people bringing in coins to him that have errors and that I should stop watching RUclips videos about errors because it's bringing him a lot of unwanted customers that think that they have error coins. He also said that it's made of silver by just looking at it with the big P mint mark on the back. I tried to explain that it was a transitional error I just needed it tested to see if it had silver and he told me "no" and that he wasn't going to waste his time. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Should I just send it in to a grading company to see if they can determine if it's silver? I can tell that it's a normal nickel by just the look of it and the way it sounded on the drop test.

    Hello my name is Nick,
    Am i understanding this video correct on the 43 war nickel transitional error, on a drop test, the copper nickel coin on the 1943 would sound more like a 1940 or 1941 vs 1945 or later and that would be the one worth more ?
    If that is the case i may have one of the transitional errors and wondered if you may have any other suggestions on what my next step would be to confirm if it is or not, im pretty new to collecting and would greatly appreciate any honest input.
    Thank you
    Nick

    Would it be possible for this nickle to also be the nickle that has the 3 over the 2 I ask because initially my grandfather had it marked as the possible 3 over 2 error and I am almost positive I could see that error but the coin just looks very unique it stands out as far as it’s color compared to the rest of the nickels I have from the same years and I stumbled across this video doing research on my new gotten collection of coins I appreciate the information and help

    I found 3 in my coins. They've been in my jewelry box since the 80s. I don't hear a difference when I do the drop test. I guess I need to find a coin shop.
