    Just bought one of these (used, with 20K miles)! Saved a bundle, even though I love new cars. So excited. BTW, if you put it in "sports" mode, it's much faster pick-up and shifting.

    My wife leased this exact model recently. I beat her drag race on my ram 1500 hemi. To give some references, her previous vehicle was a mini Cooper 5dr that has the same engine. That car was actually fun to drive.

    I'm driving Countryman2012 right now. I think it's quite loud in passenger room. How is the one you are driving? Is it still noisy comparing to X1? Nice review, by the way

    The ZF 8 speed is for longitudinal engines. This one has an Aisin unit

    I'm pretty sure the weight on MINI website is a misprint because 2017 weight around 3600 lbs and there's minor differences (transmission being main one). Just subtract 1000 lbs and that sounds about right. Car can not be 4600 lbs and have 150hp engine - would have garbage truck acceleration. Nice review otherwise.

    • @TheTestDrive

      Thanks - I really appreciate it! I originally thought the same thing but then it would be a misprint for every vehicle on Mini's website. The Mini hardtop 2-door base model is 3,627 lbs. Here are the links:
      Mini Cooper Countryman ALL4 www.miniusa.com/model/countryman/specs.html - 4,564 lbs curb weight
      Mini Hardtop 2-door www.miniusa.com/model/hardtop/specs.html - that one is 3,627 lbs
      Mini hardtop 2-door with the 1.5L does 0-60 in 7.5s, Countryman ALL4 does it in 9.5 which makes sense due to the 1,000 lbs of added weight!

    Not interested in a $34,000 gutless wonder! However, I'm looking forward to 2020 for innovation & exciting designs for us car enthusiast! On my radar; at the top of my list would have to be the Ford Explorer Platinum Edition with 385HP for around $54,000 is an awesome SUV. My next pick would be the Toyota Highlander. And last but not least would be a tie between the Audi Q3 which is the perfect vehicle for someone who is single with no kids & the VW Cross Trek which is a smaller version of the Atlas. I would appreciate if you could review these "Master Gems" on wheels for your YT fans when they become available! Thanks Rob for all great work you do for us car enthusiast!

      Agreed - there are a lot of awesome new vehicles on the market! I’m interested in all of those and will see what I can do to get my hands on them. Appreciate the support!!! 😎

      Here are the specs: www.miniusa.com/model/countryman/specs.html - 4,564 lbs curb weight
      For fun check out the Mini Hardtop 2-door: www.miniusa.com/model/hardtop/specs.html - that one is 3,627 lbs
      The reason the two cars with the same 1.5L engine have a difference of 2 full seconds in 0-60 time is WEIGHT!

    Mini sales not doing well, And keep going lower, and I think its all a market positioning mistake. BMW likes to market it as a competitor to a X1, but really should compete with a Kia Soul. Decontent and reduce price. Get rid of leather and panoramic sunroof. Get rid of complicated infotainment and run flat tires. Get rid of overcomplicated weak three cylinder and replace with base four non-turbo. Sell for 20-25k and see sales increase. Mini was never a premium brand, yet that is what BMW is trying to do with it.

    • @TheTestDrive
      @TheTestDrive  4 года назад +1

      That’s a great point. If they put even the small turbo-four from the old 320i (180hp) and AWD, no runflats, and make the interior more basic, they could charge mid 20s and compete with the regular hot hatches as opposed to being nearly double the price. I think those buyers would pay more for a Mini but not $10-15k more.

    This car weighs 4,600 pounds? That is absolutely insane for a vehicle of this size. A deal breaker for me. I won't be buying one!

    • @MarkLagunas
      @MarkLagunas 4 года назад

      Its 3600. He made a mistake with the weight lol. But still, performance is booboo but I think this is for people that want the most fuel efficiency and pay the least for most space in a mini. I’d go with the S just to get a little more kick without sacrificing comfort in like in the JCW

  • @STEVE33437

    IMHO this car is way overpriced for what offers. A slow 3 cyl engine, overweight and poor record for reliability make it a poor choice.
