Thanks guys , because of your great review I bought this JCW for my wife and she really likes it. We both find it peppy and fairly good handling with good brakes for a small SUV. If it only had a manual transmission it would be so much more fun. Quality of materials and fit and finish is typical BMW. The gas mileage has been excellent. It amazes me that 301 horsepower can be had from a 2 liter turbo and these numbers were unheard of only 10 years ago for a road car in Canada. Keep up the great work and wonderful reviews.
Just bought mine today!!! (Can't wait to pick it up Monday). Didn't plan to buy, but got a great deal and after the test drive I was instantly in love!!
One thing that I'd love to see that I think would be beneficial would be, when you list the horsepower and torque numbers for a given vehicle, to also provide the weight. Power numbers on their own don't tell the full story. The power-to-weight ratio paints a more complete picture of a vehicle's potential performance.
My wife is a foot shorter than me. Every time I drive her car, her electric seats take sooo long to slide far enough back for me to get in. Manual seats ftw.
For the wipers, you press the button at the end of the right control for auto (green light will light up). The +/- scroll changes how often it wipes in auto.
The wipers are kind of weird but I've got them in my '15 MCS. It makes some sense once you get used to it. The actual movements up and down for the stalk are set speeds for one wipe, intermittent, slow and fast. When you hit auto on the end of the stalk the dial on the stalk adjusts how sensitive it is to liquid on the windshield. The higher the more it'll try to wipe off, the lower it'll let rain pile up more before it activates. UPDATE: Just realized this morning when I had to use my wipers that there's in fact no intermittent setting on the stalk. There's only low, high, and once along with the auto setting. The auto functions as the intermittent I guess.

There's a button on the wipers stock, that you have to press to activate Automatic Wipers. And you adjust how fast it engages by regulating this rotating knob on the front. That's how it works in my Countryman :)
My 2012 S Countryman ALL4 also has the same lag from a stop, I believe from what I've read on forums is that it's the AWD system taking one extra second from a stop (not including launch control) to decide where to send power to get you moving, not to mention the added weight
There's a good aftermarket 3D-printed solution to make the key smaller. I did it with my 3 door JCW. The bulk of the circle is completely useless (not housing any microchips or anything)

In the days when these were made by Austin, they had another model, called the Maxi (my dad owned one, they were horrible). But given that's now associated with "hygiene products" I doubt they'd go for that these days.
What I like about the new clubman/countryman is, that you can use the full tachometer...in other cars you have 20/40 units left for RESERVE. Mini puts raceflags on the side and lets go! :D

I think they (Mini) stopped that in the LCI2 gen cars - I'd have to check to see if my wife's 2023 does that - though I know for a fact her 2018 Countryman does (what this 2020's does).

The iDrive controller confusion is so real. I had a '17 M3 and '16 JCW together for most of this year and I never got used to it. I ended up changing the coding for the Minis iDrive to be the BMW skin just so the controller would work in the same direction because it drove me insane. Also, the auto wiper function is the button at the end of the stalk.
The one thing that's completely unnecessary and you don't even do it right anymore, it's the Box Test. I mean, there was room for at least a couple more back there...other than that....GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS!

Intermittent wipers ? Press the button at the end of the stalk, it’s different to BMW being the first stage lift of the wiper stalk. Onto the direction of rotation of the iDrive wheel , you get used to it. Looking at the iDrive before you select helps, it took about 6 months ! Every morning I would jump out of my car and be in one of the BMW’s and I’d go the wrong way with the wheel. Then after all day of being in and out of cars and finally getting it correct I’d jump into my car and get it wrong. Annoying but at the same time cool and acceptable! Ones mini ones bmw and it helps differentiate the brands! Enjoyed the review content is amazing as always!
There is a wheel at the windowwipper stock, thats controling the auto speed mode, or the manual speed mode of the wippers. But the lowest settings is sometimes still not to low. And just a free rant, but the extra window blind at the driver side is an option, wich is driving me crazy because on my previews lease mini it was there. (Mini 5-door driver)
The intermittent wiper thing exists in my 09 mini clubman, you have to use the side button on the stalk without twisting the rear wiper setting. I mostly just click around until i get it haha.
I bought a 2019 because of your 2018 review. I tested the 2020 this year and fortunately, even with less power I prefer mine. Reason why is more crackle and pops, along with other reasons. Also, the intermitent wiper thing, it's actually an auto detect mode and the roller is to set the sensitivity.
Countryman back seats are huge. If you need AWD, a manual and the ability to fit rear-facing car seats, this is your only option outside of maybe the Wrangler. CM has a far nicer interior than X1/X2 and it's less expensive.
I have a 2019 jcw and a new iPhone 11.....CarPlay is almost unusable, constantly drops calls and clicks on audio. It’s so bad I’ve stopped using CarPlay and use Bluetooth only. I’m soooo glad you mentioned this. Thought it was just me !!!!!
No issues using the iDrive controller in the Countryman when switching from my BMW. The circular setup of the infotainment in the Mini makes it so they had to reverse it. It wouldn't work visually if they had kept it like the BMW iDrive setup.
Just a quick note about changing radio stations: you only have to click the ok button to select a channel if the car is equipped with a HUD, otherwise you just hit the up or down button and it will cycle through the channels as expected. Just a weird quirk of the brand.
You realize that the engine start stop is turned on. Thus it is sitting off and in ready mode when you were flooring it from a stop. For better response disable the engine start stop system.
Just update the écu .. tune it and solves the lag problem in comfort- and if put to sport you will see a enormous difference in response to throttle Stock wise you still feel differences in mode selection but after that simple mod, u be flyin
Others have probably mentioned, but the adjustment on the wiper is for the sensitivity of the water sensing auto wiper mode. Starting to look like the smaller models may never get a manual if they do get that sweet 300hp motor, which is a true shame. Still, the manual with the current JCW hardtop engine is more than enough to leave a smile on your face when you blast down some twisty roads with the exhaust flaps open. :)
Hey Boys! To start the Rain Sensor&Intervals just push the right knob on the Steering Columnstalk (i hope the word is correct xD) , a green LED lights up and you can adjust the speed of wiper intervals. Greetings, Sebastian from Germany (driving a 2020 Mini One D Countryman). :)
My household currently has a 2018 330i xdrive wagon and a plain old 2018 Countryman ALL4. The dial thing is pretty annoying and I doubt we'll ever adjust. Also, CarPlay in the Countryman seems a bit more stable for me after upgrading to iOS 13.2.3.
About the boxes test... you guys forgot to open the hidden HUGE compartment that is at the bottom of the trunk! One can easily fit a large luggage in that extra compartment that equals 2 extra boxes!
actually driving both is a nightmare for everyone else entering the car and trying to control the menu but I'm just used to it and don't even notice it
I think the delay is for pedal misappropriation prevention ? In case it was unintentional. I guess in most cases of normal driving people won’t floor it, so they’re preventing accidental floor-ations to avoid what could be a massive crash
The lag they were talking about is just BMW Lag it's with the way the pedals are tuned and it's something that has been happening since the e46 generation of non-M BMW.
Just a point of feedback - the audio change at 11:05 is rather jarring from a sound perspective. Not sure how to fix but "just a heads up" ;) Love your videos
I have a 2021 M8, 2022 x6 m50i, and a 2021 Countryman JCS...and my wife and I both, still mess up the knob turning. I don't think we'll ever get used to it haha
Idk why reviewers havent noticed this yet in 2019 but with bmw turn stocks you literally just click it back in the same direction to turn it off. I didn't even have to research that when I got my first BMW it just seemed like common sense.

That was you!
Hey Yuri and Jakub, keep reminding everyone to put winter tires on I hope you break a record for this year!
No issues using the iDrive controller in the Countryman when switching from my BMW. The circular setup of the infotainment in the Mini makes it so they had to reverse it. It wouldn't work visually if they had kept it like the BMW iDrive setup.
Press the button on the side of the stock for auto wipers (?) that’s how it worked in a f30 2015 but idk if they have changed it
Windshield wiper: press AUTO, and then adjust the wheel (+ or -)
I would give up anything to have your job! Love you keep it up!!!
Just get cars and wagons. Yes Yuri. Preach it.
Just update the écu .. tune it and solves the lag problem in comfort- and if put to sport you will see a enormous difference in response to throttle
Stock wise you still feel differences in mode selection but after that simple mod, u be flyin
Clubman next!!! that thing is the best
if its bmw's rain sensor system then its not an intermittent wiper it's a rain sensitivity level
Thank you for giving my favorite car some love ♥️ R53 Owner
Others have probably mentioned, but the adjustment on the wiper is for the sensitivity of the water sensing auto wiper mode.
Starting to look like the smaller models may never get a manual if they do get that sweet 300hp motor, which is a true shame. Still, the manual with the current JCW hardtop engine is more than enough to leave a smile on your face when you blast down some twisty roads with the exhaust flaps open. :)
It’s a MINI, so it’s a mini-SUV. They made an SUV but it’s still mini in size relative
If Yuri's video editing was a Star Trek series, he be The Next Generation. Cuz he blows everything else out of the water!
Having the 2 tone color scheme helps hide the dimensions, but it needs blacked out wheels to really make it a looker.
Props to Mini for the latest Countryman, but the GLC 63s was the star of this video. That thing is just one is the best all-rounders 🙏🏾
I saw a countrymen last week it was being chauffer driven. Mini has come a long way
About the boxes test... you guys forgot to open the hidden HUGE compartment that is at the bottom of the trunk!
One can easily fit a large luggage in that extra compartment that equals 2 extra boxes!
i had a first gen countryman and ICBC classifies them as suvs on insurance lol
actually driving both is a nightmare for everyone else entering the car and trying to control the menu but I'm just used to it and don't even notice it
Huge Mini. Basically a X2 M35i with a Mini badge.
Not basically, it is
I think the delay is for pedal misappropriation prevention ? In case it was unintentional. I guess in most cases of normal driving people won’t floor it, so they’re preventing accidental floor-ations to avoid what could be a massive crash
I got both in my household..... it definitely takes a bit to get a feeling for
The lag they were talking about is just BMW Lag it's with the way the pedals are tuned and it's something that has been happening since the e46 generation of non-M BMW.
press on the button on the tip of the right turn handle to get it in auto mode
How do y'all not have 1 million subs by now?!
You can get a different case for the key fob which makes it about half the size.
Just a point of feedback - the audio change at 11:05 is rather jarring from a sound perspective. Not sure how to fix but "just a heads up" ;)
Love your videos
Man it’s hard to put out 2 videos a week. We’ll try harder tho!
That is a huge MINI!
I had no idea about the power bump.. Sold!
late to the video, but do have a G30 540 and a F60 Countryman S for my wife. We mainly use the scroller in the BMW and the touch screen in the Mini. the reach for the screen in the 540 too far to tap anything without looking.
