Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) is a New York City subway dispatcher whose ordinary day is thrown into chaos by an audacious crime: the hijacking of a subway train. Ryder (John Travolta), the criminal mastermind behind the hijacking and leader of a highly-armed gang of four, threatens to execute the train's passengers unless a large ransom is paid within one hour. As the tension mounts beneath his feet, Garber employs his vast knowledge of the subway system in a battle to outwit Ryder and save the hostages. But there's one riddle Garber can't solve: even if the thieves get the money, how can they possibly escape?

I think it’s more like when you deal with a man like that, he will keep his word. No matter what happens if he said he’d bring home milk, he’ll do whatever it takes to fulfill that promise. No matter how small it is
Its amazing how the film was set in such little surrondings, yet still managed to grasp the viewers with its wonderful storyline- this film was epic! Trovalta and Washington never cease to amaze me!

Hey, small surroundings and simple stories tend to always be the better movies or tv shows than these over bloated and over complicated films and shows nobody but pompous critics like. Real skill in acting and direction come from one set\ one plot stories.
@@kendallrivers1119 I saw this 2009 version when I was a kid. Meh. I recently saw the original 1974 film and really liked it. More than the storyline, the performances were great. Walter Matthau is in it. And the movie didn't take itself too seriously. I thought the 1974 was so much better than this version. I came here to see the trailer because I forgotten what the 2009 version looked like. LOL. After seeing both, and seeing someone in the comment section liking the storyline more, I recommend them watching the original. It's so much better. The book is also great.

One of the few times a remake was actually really good. Casting Denzel and Travolta as Garber and Ryder was a stroke of genius. R.I.P. Tony Scott.

I love this movie so much. John Travolta did an amazing job here! His son died while filming this and still have such an amazing performance. I heard that in like one scene they altered his tattoo oh his neck to say 'For my son' instead of 'from my cold'

One of the best films I have ever seen, two of the best actors in one film, Legends Denzel Washington and John Travolta. Truly Amazing, soundtrack, storyline, characters, and action. An extremely underrated film, and what a great adaptation. One where you get a perspective of each character, and I literally can't describe the film without spoiling it but it's a must-watch. Brilliant. 7.05.2020

One of the best movies I've ever seen with both my favorite actors featured in - Denzel Washington & John Travolta. Although the ending could be better like what happens to Grabner? Does he get his job back? Does he get pardoned? Does the media call him a hero? Does the mayor re-run due to how inspired he was by Grabher? Other than that it was PERFECT. Especially the negotiator and the mayor actor as well as Ramos. All actors I know from other movies. Once again, it is the best movies I have ever seen. Would watch it over and over again.

I'm 16 now and didn't even know what The Sopranos was when this film came out, so didn't recognise James Gandolfini.
Now, having watched every Sopranos episode, it feels almost emotional to see Gandolfini in this!

The original had the Denzel role as a Transit Lieutenant Police Officer and the Travolta character was more isolated emotionally played brilliantly by Robert Shaw. If you haven't seen the original do yourselves an enormous favor and look at it.
They won’t, “it’s too old” they say. The original is a masterpiece compared to this.

Man this movie is so underrated! I don't get why people didn't like it as much as me. One of my personal favorites, if not my favorite. Absolutely great ending as well.

Up until today. I didn't know this was a remake.
Absolutely fantastic film. Directed by Tony Scott first of all and performed by Denzel and Travolta - two of the best actors ever. This film spat on the original film's grave and laughed and that in my opinion is a great thing. The original was boring and dreary. This was a Tony Scott action-packed thrill-ride. Well done Tony. Boom.
The first one is pretty damn good for it’s time, all things considered. Very easy to look at a movie that came out in 1974 and say it’s boring. The original had a great sense of humor and still managed to be suspenseful til the very end.
Prefer the 1974 version. Robert Shaw is so badass, the soundtrack is amazing and I just love the gritty look of New York in the 70s

Having seen both movies, the 2009 version doesn’t compare to the original 1974 movie. If you haven’t seen it please watch it. The storyline the opening music score and even the minor characters are spot on New Yorkers. I would also add the 6 train route is correct in the original movie. The 6 train does not go to Coney Island as shown in the 2009 film. No disrespect to the cast. The remake is ok, 5.5 out of 10. The original is a solid 9. Check it out. Thanks for reading. I enjoyed watching this movie. "I fed this city some breakfast!!" His rants were hilarious 🤣John Travolta was at his peak in this movie, the real NY gangster, blacker than any guy you can think of. John Travolta is the only white dude who can play a black character well.

I think John Travolta is a great actor! Why? Cause he's just as convincing in these badass villian roles as he is playing the nice guy. In my opinion, that's the mark of a great actor, credibility in every role.
And so funny/ironic to see how sweet and soft he is when he's on Oprah and to see him like this lol.
