    My wife and I did a Viking Christmas cruise in December 2022 and we can attest that Viking will take care of dietary restrictions, They were great. Also the heated bathroom floor is fantastic.

      Yes, the attention to clients with dietary restriction was fantastic! One of the benefits of river cruising and having so few guests to take care of. I was so impressed that a lot of the staff knew names by day 2! Did you also sail on the Danube?

    Hello from Unionville, ON! After doing 40+ ocean cruises, mainly on Princess, I decided to try something different and booked a Christmas Markets 1 week river cruise last December with my daughter. It was mainly on the Main River in Germany. A company called Gate 1 was recommended to us and did not disappoint. Everything you said about River cruising is so true. We were the only Canadians on board but we quickly made friends with all the Americans! This company seems to have a loyal following as most were multiple repeat customers. A lot told us they have cruised on a lot of the other river cruise lines but after trying Gate 1, they kept coming back. We have booked a 2-week Viking River cruise for mid November from Budapest and ending in Amsterdam and we are staying an additional 2 nights at the end (booked on our own as much cheaper to do so than through Viking!). I am hoping that some of the Christmas Markets will again be open as they are so beautiful and so much fun! We sampled Glühwein at every one and my daughter collected a lot of the mugs for souvenirs! The sausages, different at every market, were delicious too! The guides and included tours were amazing. I wanted a longer cruise this time (which Gate 1 does not offer 😢) so we decided to try Viking. It should be interesting to compare the 2 companies. There are a few repeat ports on this itinerary put a lot of new ports so we are really looking forward to it. We have free airfare included but after booking, we decided to deviate and stay an extra 2 days at the end as we wouldn’t really get to see Amsterdam otherwise. There was a $100 pp surcharge for the flight deviation but that was fine. Can you advise if the Euro is the currency onboard Viking and what the daily tipping guidelines are. I want to purchase Euros again before leaving as the Canadian credit cards charge terrible exchange rates plus often a fee 😡. Any additional Viking tips/suggestions would be welcome so we have a smooth sailing!

      @TheRiverCruiseQueen  Год назад +1

      Amazing. You have booked the Grand European Tour! YAY! If I were you, I would prepay the gratuities through your MyVikingJourney portal and then you can tip additional to the staff who you feel went above and beyond at the end of the sailing. Onboard they will happily accept Euros. If you like to have some extra beverages, Viking Silver Spirit package is very affordable and can be prepurchased as well.
      It sounds like you may catch some markets at the end of your sailing. Many open around Nov 22nd onward.
      Have the BEST time ever!

    Hello! We have been on several Caribbean cruises and always get a balcony! With the Viking XMas River Cruise being in the winter- I am guessing we would not use a balcony. Are the cabins with the French doors worth it? I am a bit claustrophobic.

    • @melissalacey1
      @melissalacey1 10 месяцев назад

      French doors would totally be fine. They are large like a patio door and your room would be bright and open. 100% do not get the standard room if you may be claustrophobic. The windows are small and located high up. Let me know if you want help planning!

    I’m taking this cruise in December so really enjoyed watching this. My neighbor just got back from the same cruise-nonChristmas-and insists they take euros in Budapest, but everything I read says they use a different currency. Which is it? Thanks.

      @TheRiverCruiseQueen  9 месяцев назад +1

      Amazing! You will have the best time. Hungary does have their own currency but they will readily accept Euros. Just be careful, if you pay in Euros your change will be in Forint, so try to avoid ending up with too much of their currency. ❤

    What weeks are the Christmas markets?

    • @TheRiverCruiseQueen
      @TheRiverCruiseQueen  Год назад

      Most are open by mid to late November. But, this is a good point to be careful about when booking a cruise. As the market opening dates vary year by year, sometimes a "Christmas Market" cruise may miss a market by a day or two. When we landed in Munich it was the opening day for their market (Nov 23) and when we departed from Passau with Viking it was the opening day for their market as well (Nov 24).

    Can anyone comment, how long you can stay at each port? How many hours at each Christmas market ? Thank you.

    • @TheRiverCruiseQueen
      @TheRiverCruiseQueen  Год назад

      Stops can be as short as a few hours for smaller towns or an entire day from 8am-11pm for larger cities like Vienna. In this trip we also overnighted in Budapest!

      I look every week on the documents page because I’m going on a cruise with my sister in November and I have not been vaccinated so I keep praying they will drop it. All the countries have dropped it it’s only Viking that have insisted on passengers getting it. In my experience, I was less sick than my friends who got the vaccine and who also had Covid. But if I have to get it, I will get it a 6 weeks before we leave.

      @@jilllovesbeegees70 My daughter and I are doing a 2-week Viking cruise starting in mid-November. We are both Canadians but she lives in the US. Both of us have had multiple Covid vaccines (she is a travel nurse) with absolutely no reactions. I know others have not been so lucky. My husband and another daughter, both multi-vaccinated, also got Covid but didn’t even know it until they tested positive! Everyone is affected differently! So either way, we are set if Viking requires the vaccines. I was notified by our public health that I am due for my 6th shot and my GP a has recommended I get it. No big deal for me. You have to go with what is right for you (or required)! Good luck!
