I'm going to France in August or September, what size personal item bag do I need?
My husband and I always wanted to do a River Cruise, unfortunately, it didn't happen. My tip for couples is, don't put off things, time does run out.
So true Janice. Hugs.
❤❤❤
God bless you all. ❤
I agree, we wanted to go to Paris and Italy for our 40th. I purchased everything for 2 weeks in 2019. I told my husband....let's do it now we don't know what tomorrow will bring. We did go had a fabulous time then COVID hit...We have lost so many people we know these past 4 years including my in-laws. If you can Don't put it off...
@@florencelacy4190 I'm so glad you went!
In lieu of the soap sheets, use a vegetable peeler to shave a bar of soap & place the chips in a small, reusable, zippered plastic pouch. Just take out a small shaving when your hands are dry before washing to avoid getting the shavings wet. Easy to use, costs nothing, and no plastic container to go into a landfill.
I'm gonna do this thank you 😊
Wow, this is an amazing tip. TY 🥰
That’s such a smart idea!
❤❤❤❤❤
Great idea, and if you wanted to get super fancy, you could separate the soap shavings with small pieces of waxed paper, put in an Altoid tin. Cheapo First Class! ( ok, maybe 2nd class)
Love your videos! “This is not the time to impress people.” Why did it take me so long to learn that no one cares what I wear?
Same here!
Likewise! I would have given at least 10 thumbs up for your comment if possible!
I am on a Rhine River Cruise right now. Casual clothes are all that is required. Bring some short sleeve shirt and a light sweatshirt or jacket for the ship that fit under your jacket if you need another layer
Love it! Have such a beautiful, magical trip!
I have been on three European river cruises and going on fourth in a week. Travel from UK so international advise I cannot doubt the following suggestions might help.
Um
Cabins are a modest size so use a soft sided checkin suitcase to store under the bed. Rigid ones tend not to fit there.
Comfortable sensible trainers for off ship walks. Most European towns have cobbles. On board heeled shoes can be a disadvantage when using the stairs between decks .
Bring travel soap and quick drying travel clothes. This reduces quantity required!
Smart casual attire is normal. No shorts in the evening. Captains dinner usually leans to more smart but jacket or tie not required. Shirt not tee shirts. Ladies vary in levels of ‘ smart’ for this occasion.
If your cabin has a Varenna do not expect to use it when in dock as in busy ports the ships dock parallel to each other. We book a cabin with a juilliet balcony ( full height sliding window). This gives more space within the cabin .
Some ships have UK electric sockets others have European so check that out before.
A sun hat with a chin strap or tight fitting as blowy on deck when moving.
I did a Viking River Cruise in December for the Christmas markets. Our cruise was from Amsterdam to Basel Switzerland. Would say about half the ports we had to take a bus to get to the markets. They did I noticed separated us by age groups on the bus. We were one of the younger passengers. So, we usually got the bus the furtherest from the ship. And if you don't like your bus you can go on another bus. Nobody is taking roll call. At each port they started off with a short walking tour. I was surprised on how much we saw. but It was very fast pace. We did about 2 ports a day most days. Usually, one port in the morning then, back on for lunch and another port in the afternoon/evening. To be honest I was disappointed in the limited time we had in each town. There are towns I would love to visit again. Don't get me wrong I had a great trip. We did the post-cruise tour and I highly recommend. We spent 2 nights in Amsterdam before the cruise and 2 nights in Lucerne after the cruise. There is so much to see in Lucerne that we decided to do the Viking tour. Wow. We saw so much. There is no way I could have done that myself. The trip was great as we met a lot of nice people and became friends on facebook. The cheapest airfare for us was through Viking and we got premium economy. I did sign up for all the free tours. I think, next time I'll do more of the paid tours. The free tours are just walking tours which are great in the morning. But for the evening stop a paid tour would be nice. They have beer tasting, etc..
Same itinerary Tina, but I did a Scenic tour. I was a bit disappointed that we only visited one Christmas market at night, the others were during the day and therefore, no beautiful lights! Some markets we could only stay for an hour! It was a great introduction, but next year I'm going on my own schedule!
Last year I did a Christmas markets River cruise (7 days). My daughter and I have booked a 2-week Viking cruise in November from Budapest to Amsterdam. Any suggestions to keep packing for a 2-week winter cruise minimal would be welcome! First time on Viking so any helpful tips for that cruise line are also welcome!
We are going on this cruise as well. I’m not sure how warm it will be on the riverboats, etc. I know to wear layers, but would love to hear from people who went this time of year.
Our cruise was from Dec 2 to 9th. We arrived in Amsterdam the morning of Nov 30th then left Lucerne/Zurich Dec 11th. Nov 30th and Dec 1st were quiet warm. Meaning you could walk around with just a coat. I had to take it off a few times when we were standing in the sun. So layering was a must those 2 days. After that the weather was very chilly. We decided to walk to the port from our hotel sight seeing along the way and it was very windy cold. It was nice since we were staying in Viking hotel our luggage was transported for us. You needed a good coat. I wore mostly knee high boots. I brought my hiking shoes for snow days and rain days. I brought a pair of ballet flats got around the shop. It did not rain much or snow. We had snow in one German port. Then, it was very snowy in Lucerne. So I’m not sure if we lucked out with the weather. I thought it was pleasant. The ship itself was fine temperature wise. I never felt cold on the ship itself.
Going on river cruise in June. 3 nights Paris, 14 night Amsterdam to Budapest, River Danube. Finishing 3 nights in Prague. So looking forward to this holiday.😁😁
That sounds awesome! One suggestion is to pack in cubes in case of a boat swap. You should be ok in June but we went July 4 and ran into shallow water on the Danube necessitating a boat swap. I just threw my packing cubes into my suitcase and was done. Easy peasy.
For our 2 week Mediterranean cruise we bought our liquids in Rome before we go on the ship…shampoo, moisturizer, sunscreen…everything. We had carry on only and it worked out great.
That is such a space saving tip!
Pocketbook was what my grandmother always called it !
Same! And she never let it out of her sight even in our house lol!
Umbrellas are offered for River Boat passengers. The shampoo/shower soaps that are in the showers are harsh on colored hair as it stripped mine so something to consider. It might be o.k. now because I no longer color my hair. Wash cloths are available unlike some Hotels who do not offer them. I like a clean one A.M. and P.M. and they did not mind asking for two on River Cruises. Some frequent travelers have travel business cards made to exchange with new friends you meet. At Holiday time a little more dressy for the Captain's Dinner but generally casual these days. Just add some accessories and you will be dressed up enough. There are alternate food choices for all meals and a quick lunch buffet instead of sit down lunch so never confined to a menu. Special diets can be accommodated for ship meals but difficult in a restaurant serving a large group. One blanket tip divided at the end so no need to tip continuously during the cruise and included if bused to a site or tour in contract.
But yes, check to see what your cruise line offers.
Pictures of documents etc. on your phone won’t do much good if you are incapacitated and first responders cannot unlock your phone. Carry paper copies of essential documents as well.
We are taking our third Amawaterways river cruise in December. We sailed twice on the Danube and this cruise will be on the Rhine. We always book the pre-cruise days in our departure city to see the sights; you also have some time to adjust to any jet lag you may have PLUS you have an extra 2-3 days IF your flight is delayed/cancelled. You will also get to know the cruise director and some of your fellow passengers prior to the cruise; we were even invited to sit at the Captain's Table the first night on the ship by the CD.
DO use the laundry on board (pack lighter!), it is very affordable but we do hand-wash our ExOfficio undies as well as my bras on the laundry line that can be found in most showers. I take Bronner’s Castile liquid soap in a mini bottle for any washing and as a stain remover. Taking interchangeable tops/bottoms and a couple scarves, as you suggest, works perfectly. Typically, you will be out walking/touring/wine tasting all day, so I keep it comfortable but not gym/lounge level. However, I do take 2 ‘nicer’ tops to wear to dinner on the first and last nights on the ship.
Pre/post hotels and the ships typically have robes and slippers in our rooms along with a blowdryer. But I bring my own very flat slippers, two pairs of shoes for excursions, and I break my travel rule and bring one nice pair of flats for dinners. I always spray my tennis shoes with waterproofing spray for those days it rains/snows to keep my feet dry.
You DO need an extension cord for a CPAP on some ships that were built prior to around 2015. The ship we are sailing in December DOES NOT have any outlets next to the bed. My husband keeps a 10’ extension cord (125-250v) in his CPAP bag when we travel internationally. Our first ship, built in 2019, not only had outlets next to the bed but it also had a US outlet in the room. The second ship only had the standard C outlets in the room but NONE next to the bed. I was told that Amawaterways typically keep some extension cords available for CPAP users and we were able to borrow one of those.
Most river cruise companies use an audio system that is bluetooth friendly allowing you to pair your own earbuds, or in my husband’s case - hearing aides. So keep that in mind. I also have a flat with snaps leather ‘tray’ that I drop my room card, loose change, and jewelry into at the end of the day…easy pickup to go the next morning.
You may also want to pack one workout set as, on Ama, there is a small gym, a running track, and oftentimes yoga classes, available. A swimsuit for the pool and, yes - even in the winter, the hot tub. We then use the clothesline in the bath to hand suits to dry or after we wash our workout wear. We LOVE seeing these river cities in a floating hotel!
Thank you so much for these details! Love a floating hotel-only unpack once!
I completely agree! I've done 2 with AmaWaterways and 3 with Uniworld and love love love river cruises. Except for underwear, I take only 3 of each item (cashmere turtlenecks, V-necks and long sleeved crew necks plus 3 pairs dark pants) in neutral colors plus colorful silk scarves, but we always go in late autumn so layering sweaters is usually necessary. Another pair of black "evening pants" is enough with a few silk/satin shirts - the bottom half of you at night is usually under the table. I love the fact that river cruising is not as formal at night as some big-ship cruise lines, and I a going to seriously consider booking the pre-cruise extension for the reasons given!
Great information. We do the pre-cruise as well for the same reason..this one will be in Prague! Doing the post in Budapest! I was so proud that we did carry on only as Laurie suggests for our first cruise. Thanks everyone!
@@user-qr3bk2of6m It's the American way-since you're over there, see it all! Have fun and way to go.
W O W. That is a lot of VERY helpful information, thanks so much as a lot of this pertains to my hubby😅
I always travel with some sort of gloves. I often find very nice lined leather gloves at open air markets. When I found cadhmere lined leather gloves in Florence for less than 20 euros, I bought some as gifts, too.
The Viking riverboats often have a retractable cord/line in the shower for hanging your hand washed items, but I still bring a couple inflatable hangars if I need to hand wash a shirt or top. They won’t dry on a regular hangers because the front and back stick together. For several items, I have the ships laundry do them.
With the detergent leaves, I also pack a jumbo ziploc as a wash bag. The ship sinks are very small. I use hook clips as well. I take 2 plastic hangers with notches to hang a bra to dry
Great tip!
That is a great idea !!
Thank you, Laurie. You are exceptionally helpful and relatable. Lead on.
So glad!
I love paying for the laundry on a cruise. It is SO worth it.
My grandma used to say pocketbook and we are not even Southern so I enjoyed that!
Haha can't let it leave your side!
Hello Laurie! Yes, European (TSA equivalent) rules are much tighter than ours, especially liquids. My tip is to use washing (machine) sheets instead of Tide liquid packets. I have used WashEZE on 14 cruises and they are great. Cut one sheet into rectangles (about the size of your hand soap sheets in the plastic case) for sink hand washing. Double-check the rules of the river cruise line for what is not allowed on their boats. (Wife of a DFW retired pilot)
Yes to WashEZE but the non fragrant kind! Yes so much to research without the stress of planning everything.
Get some Euros before trip - get them at your bank a week or two before your trip.
Most banks don’t carry euros!
You order them a couple weeks before your trip. Bank orders from reserves and lets you know when they come in. I do it for every trip. You get the best exchange rate, too.
You can order Euros or a wide variety of currencies at AAA.
Also found in some Eastern European countries, even though part of the EU, local merchants still prefer local currency.
@@billhoward3398 they have to be ordered. I ordered Euros from my bank last year - no problem at all.
Thanks for the wonderful tips! I've never been on a cruise, but I understand the space constraints for any kind of travel. I pack my prescription meds in individual tiny ziplocs (the kind made for crafts/jewelry). I put the official label on each one so that the TSA folks what they are. I've never had a problem at the security checks. Also, our tour company recommends the plastic packing cubes (various sizes to keep clothing categories separate (shirts, underwear, etc.). Our ship won't have drawers, but the bags will fit in the cubbies in the rooms.
Those are great tips. Have a beautiful trip!
Christmas Markets river cruise was one of my favorites! But it was COLD. Dress accordingly.
8:01 "Hello over 50!" 🤣❤👵🏻
Loved this. It was like the moment I turned 51 I stopped doing anything to appease others. It is so gratifying.
Eye drops, picture of bar code in back of passport, download movies, compression socks, echo sneakers, good things I didn’t know or thought about.
I am so glad to help! Have a wonderful vacation!
I always pack my blue light readers AND my backup Rx lenses. Those will be from Zenni and I buy Two sets of the clip on sunglasses that go with the Rx lenses. Game changer.
In my carryon, I carry a crush proof glass case for my Rx sunglasses while wearing the Rx lenses that change indoor/outdoor for travel day.
That is helpful I bet.
For cruises, if you do check a bag or have the ship load your luggage, make sure anything you'll need straight away on the ship is with you in your personal item you carry on board. Often, bags aren't delivered to your stateroom until later.
I have found a better compression sock.. Wellow Socks are wonderful. I wore them on the plane to Hawaii and was very impressed. They are made from bamboo fabric and don't compress the toes or heels. I plan to wear them as my every day socks next cool trip.
Frances, I have heard from so many people who like them too!
I take a long black tank dress on cruises. Then with a large scarf/shawl or dressy necklace it is perfect for formal occasions.
That sounds beautiful for a cruise casual or formal outfit.
Perfect! I have two from Chicos. One is knee length, sleeveless and the other is just below the knees with 3/4 sleeve.
@@barbarajensen9430 That sounds great!
This tip may seem trivial but… fill out all Custom forms in black or blue ink only. Customs does not wait or hold line queues for you to complete a new form.
These are such great ideas and tips for every trip!!!! 💖 CLOTHES PACKING LIST IDEAS ARE 💯. Saving this video!! Laurie your knowledge, experience and caring are so appreciated! But it is your positivity that makes me watch a video on river cruises that are not in my plans at all!! ❤ A true fan.
Oh yay, have a fun time packing for your river cruise!
Good tips! We always stuff any shoes with socks, saves lotsa space.
We just did a Danube River Cruise with Uniworld. The ship that we were on has a laundry facility and the detergents are free. Just ask the receptionist for however many you need.
Oh Heidi, this is great to know! Thanks for your tip.
We’re going on Viking in April- can’t wait! We always bring clothes pins which have so many uses. Also, ziplock plastic bags for the return trip. Don’t forget that staterooms are very small w/narrow closets; they can only fit so much. I’ve traveled carry-on for the past 20 yrs; less is more for sure. Great channel. 👍🙏🏻✈️
Love your channel Laurie and keep the great tips coming. I travel with a Running Buddy XXL pouch with the Velcro top (zipper top one is too small for a passport). It’s been to numerous countries and serves as a place for my passport, money, credit cards, hotel keys and lipstick. I tuck one side in my leggings and the over side folds over and attaches with magnets. I pull my shirt over it and no one every knows it there. Since I am a solo traveler, I also use it on the plane when I’m sleeping and I don’t have to worry about theft.
Yes it does help in the plane when you want to not worry about theft.
Sturdy comfortable shoes for all the walking on cobble stones is a must!🥾 We went on a land & river cruise with Avalon Waterways from Prague to Budapest. Best time ever!
Ooh it sounds beautiful! Any excursions you recommend?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Prague is beautiful. Mountains of Austria. Danube vineyards. Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. Tour of Budapest. If you are fit, bicycling along the Danube.
❤ your tips. For winter travel I always take my ski jacket with attachrf hood. They must have a zip out fleece vest or lightweight jacket. I stay warm and dry for hours of walking old city streets.
Thanks for sharing!! Good one!
We always get $100 at the airport for small bills.
We scheduled two nights prior to boarding to help with jet lag. We found that we cannot get sleep on a 7 hour long haul. It saved our May 15 day river cruise.
The 17hr long haul we DO get sleep.
RHANKS TO YOUR mom. Her clothing method works. However, the weather changed after we checked it. We were glad to have long sleeves and layers. We bought Avalon jackets. They were comfortable, made well and affordable. ✌️
Oh how lovely! I bet it will be a great trip. You may want to exchange money somewhere else b/c airports are notorious for a high exchange rate.
We went. Our first river cruise on Viking last year and I made my hubby and I go with only a carryon and a backpack each. Packed a small folded duffel and tote for souvenirs. Did the capsule wardrobe with black and white with scarves as my pop of color. Looked very French and love it.
When you find travel outfits that are helpful, it’s wonderful!
Laurie I pack two pens with caps. Caps contain any leakage. 2 in case I lose one. I make my own cases out of bubble wrap and tape for my pens eyeglasses jewelry. Very cushioning and no added weight.
We brought converters and didn"t have a problem charging anything. Definitely bring good walking shoes. You will do a lot of walking.
Just packed 23.6 kilos in luggage amd 8.3 in cabin bag. For 30 days in Asia Isra
S and Egypt. I’m happy. 3 glasses of French champagne and nice sleep and 1.5:lites Perrier
Sockwell compression socks are also awesome - they have so many colors, patterns, styles (including some wide calf styles), and compression strengths, from solid neutral to loud patterns and colors.
And if you take any medications or supplements, check the laws for whatever country/ies you're going to because some require you to keep your meds in their original or prescription bottles, and some countries ban certain medications, even ones that are considered OTC in the U.S. (don't know which ban which, just know some ban some), and those might potentially require more documentation than just the prescription in order to bring them legally into the country.
Great tips! We went on our first river cruise last year, Budapest to Amsterdam. The rooms comes with binoculars. Also, check the forbidden list first; I don’t believe personal hairdryers are allowed. My two additional tips are to bring smaller bills, dollar and fives, to tip your excursion guides (crew tips will be added to your room charge if you didn’t pay in advance) and to bring chapstick. The rooms are dry and the chapstick and your suggested eye drops will be needed.
Thanks for the tips! Yes, I forgot cash for a tip on a food tour!
Also ear plugs , our room was near the back and engines were loud overnight.
Great tips Laurie!!! Not just for a river cruise but all cruises
@@mmorden9938 Thanks! I hope they help on any cruise trip.
Amen to bringing small bills. We were constantly trying to find somewhere to get change for large bills. Need a lot of 5 and 10 pound notes for tour guides and drivers.
a tip from a wet climate dweller: if it's warm and wet, wet rated sandals are a great alternative to waterproof shoes. sandals dry out much faster than if you accidentally overtop your shoes.
my wife has a dry sunscreen, that will help reduce the liquids.
Ooh thanks for sharing!
I ship my clothes and things when I travel to hotels to make sure they get there and I'm not waiting for luggage. And as my family makes me carry my stuff I find I am more pickier about the weight. My tip is if you are going on a trip you have to carry stuff practice carrying the backpack or purse in your daily life that way there you know if the straps slip or the zipper doesn't work properly. Find an escalator and bring your backpack to see how it feels. Your luggage too sometimes it's to wide for the stairs or escalator. I also agree to use the laundry where you are traveling that way there the clothes are clean when you bring them home.
Thanks for these tips!
On our recent Viking River cruise I sent five items to the laundry, in spite of the horrific prices listed on the info sheet. Evidently the prices on the list are for washing AND ironing garments. Ours were all knits or permanent press, so I wrote a note to that effect. They charged only about half of the quoted price.
Starting watching your videos months ago when we booked a trip to Portugal. Lots of great information. We are leaving in 10 days. Watched this video last night before falling asleep. Had a dream that I ran into you at HEB! lol (Something only a Texas would know.😉) Love your channel!❤

Thank You Laurie..Great tips
Thank you Laurie!
We love the compression bag thin down jacket and if you wear a ball cap under your cinch rain coat it keeps the rain off your face.
Ooh thanks!
Do you have a brand name for that jacket?
Great tips! Thanks Laurie 💖
Great tips as ever Laurie ❤ you give us so much information x
Thanks Laurie!
Hello! Recent follower and impressed with your advice! I’ve ordered several products; affordable and perfect for me (makeup brush holder, mesh makeup bags, compression packing cubes). For jewelry, key, phone on nightstand I keep my great aunt’s kitschy Hawaiian handkerchief - no way to miss it when checking out, takes no room in bag and I love having her adventurous spirit with me! Thanks!
I can't drink much straight water before it starts causing hyponatremia for me because my system won't absorb it plain, which means that just about the only things I ever drink these days are electrolyte mixes (either prepackaged or homemade) and other things with the proper sugar-to-sodium ratio (like whole milk), so some additional good electrolyte options I would throw out there are Nunn Instant, Nuun Sport, SOS (Nuun and SOS were gotten on Amazon), and Banana Bag (literally tastes exactly like what the ingredient list says - I prefer the sweet orange flavor, which I find a bit more palatable than the lemon lime, but that's just me; they do do trial packs if you want to taste before committing to a larger quantity, and the owner is honest and down to earth, he's great (I ran into some issues from 4 years ago and he was happy to help me resolve them even though it had been 4 years)) - those have been my go-to's for the last 4 years, and they have all worked amazingly well (Banana Bag worked the best for me, though). Liquid IV is okay if you can stand the extreme sugary sweetness because it has a really, really high sugar-to-sodium ratio (twice the amount of sugar that it should for the amount of sodium in it).
👀 learning so much in the comments section. Must learn what river cruises is, never been interested in the big cruises
I'm a sunscreen fanatic and am always concerned that I'll run out on a trip...so, I make a first stop at the pharmacy in any arrival city. That way I only take a small amount with me knowing that it's the first thing I'll get when I arrive. Saves space in my liquids bag.
I think that’s a great idea or spend the extra money to buy on board a ship.
You are so cute….
“I said pocketbook…”
Love it❣️❣️A 10 day Rhine River cruise on our bucket list… it will make up for all the traveling we have NOT gotten to do over the past 3 years.
Thanks for the tips!!
Cheers!
I’ve never thought about buying binoculars. I want a pair just because. What a great idea.
Some of those castles on a river cruise are clearer with binoculars I would think too. Let's find some cute travel size ones.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I’m on it
We have a couple pairs of travel size Bushnell ones: mine look just like the really big ones my parents have, just miniature, and I think they're adorable.
Photocopy your passport and leave a copy at home. Our daughter had luggage stolen from a rented car and it is easy for the embassy to provide temporary passport, if you provide them a copy of original.
Great tip-thank you!
Hello 👋🏽 I've been enjoying your videos. Thank you 😊
So helpful as usual ❤
Happy to help!
You are a treasure. This is soooooooooooooo helpful.
I've been watching your tips for the last several months - ever since I booked my first 8 day River cruise on Avalon Waterways from Amsterdam thru Belgium and back to Amsterdam in May. The highlight will be going to Keukenhoff tulip farm! Cant wait to taste the Belgian Waffles, Belgian chocolate and go to the Lace Museum. I highly recommend Avalon because of their Panorama suites where your bed looks directly onto the water and there is a large sliding glass door to take advantage of the view!
Good to hear! Yes and Belgian Fries!
Looking forward to your updates about the experience (waffles and chocolate perked my ears) ❤ .
Enjoy!
Thanks for all the tips 🙏🏻
Hi you’re welcome! Which river are you cruising?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I’m going to do The Rhine & Moselle rivers. Can’t wait but this will be my first so eager to get all the help I can.
Love your videos ❤❤
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for mentioning The 5 Kilo Traveller, Laurie. You're an absolute gem!
You are so welcome!
I just returned from my first River Cruise with Grand Circle from Amsterdam to Vienna. I’ve watched all your videos since December. I am so happy I did because it made traveling so easy. Carry on, compression bags and backpack so traveling was easy with no heavy lifting. I found on my cruise I did not need any other shoes but my Tevas and my feet were so comfortable as it was very hot in Europe. I did find I over packed even though I thought I was packing light. Thanks for for wonderful packing advise.
Experience is the best lesson. I've heard it has been hot.
Amazing river cruise tips!
Thanks so much friend! Whew!
Great info!
Hope it gives you some ideas of those cruise essentials.
The paper soap is a great idea. Never thought of that in my previous Danube River cruise trips but I’m looking to get them on Amazon. I also love the double sided eyeglass holder as I plan to bring both my sunglass prescription and regular eyeglasses. Thank you as always for your great travel tips.
You do an awesome job! Thank you.
Hope the tips help. Are you cruising on a river in 2024?
Great tips, thank you, sister!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello, I found this channel a few weeks ago at the beginning of this apparently new travel/packing special interest of mine. The videos are really helpful and have eased some of my anxiety getting back into airport travelling after 5 or so years ad a diagnosis. Thank you Laurie ☺️.
Great tips. I’m going to get some of those soap sheets
Yay and they’re not for the River cruise boat; they’re for when you are touring.
You will so enjoy Christmas markets in Europe I went 2022 to Scotland,London and Paris. All were great😊
+1 for super thin raincoat. Also the kind that bunch up into their own little pouch.
Also the packed version easily clips to a crossbody bag.
Nice!!
Love your posts. You have any topics with useful information. Thanks!
My pleasure!
I went to Kauai for 9 days...it rained everyday. Before I left I sprayed my light weight Columbia jacket with 3M water repellent. Work excellent
Oh I’m so sorry! It was cold enough for a fleece for us on our 20th there last year.
Nice video
This was fantastic! So many great tips. Sooo helpful!
Glad you think so! I hope you have a great ride!
Even though I've never been on a river cruise, the toiletry bag from Tripped that you recommended was a game changer for me. It's lightweight, has pockets and multiple access points. I used it to hold my medication bottles. I was able to find my floss without digging because of the small pockets. It also has the detachable liquids pouch. It worked well in small hotel bathrooms in Asia, so I'm sure that it would be great on a river cruise.
I always have the soap sheets with me. It takes a bit of work to get them to dissolve completely but they are so nice to have when you need them.
These do as soon as the water hit, but mine are not the Coleman brand like the picture I used.
We are going on a Viking cruise in May to Budapest. Your information as always is so helpful and I’m so happy I found you. Thank you so much.
Have a relaxing trip!
Laurie, not a fan of cruising but attend multiple formal events a year. My travel cheat is, I have a Rip Skirt in the longest length in black and several dressy tops that pack well. Love my Rip Skirts for just general wear and for travel. I use a special purple shampoo for my white hair, so I use the hotel shampoo for laundry.
I have not heard of Rip Skirts so looked them up…look comfy! Do they stay closed pretty well…have not done a wrap skirt since the 70’s!!
@ripskirthawaii are amazing and they wrap but go almost all the way around so if one flap opens from wind, you are still covered! And they're velcro!
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie thank you!
I used the shampoo to wash clothes also on our river cruise. Clothes smelled nice.
This was helpful as I'm going to an ocean cruise soon hopefully..so a lil different but still relevant and helpful for sure! I loved your channel for my first international trip last year so I'm back revisiting and refreshing on what I need to know thanks to you! Haha thank you again Laurie, your hard work and tips don't go unnoticed. God bless you and family!
Glad it was helpful! Have a great cruise!

Hello from Kingwood and thank you, Laurie.
Hello there!
Very helpful. Many things I had not thought about.
We are going on a river cruise soon so hopefully I can help with more tips.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie We leave Tuesday for our down the Rhine!
@@cathylawdanski5687 EEEK! Beautiful!
Hi Laurie! My trip is over and I'm still watching your videos. I used many of your tips to help me pack smarter and get thru the tsa line more smoothly. I even bought a Lovevook backpack which i absolutely love. I wanted to share with you that during my recent flight i saw some passengers placing their neck pillows on their table trays and using them as support for their tablets
Ooh, travel hack! Thank you.
One thing I brought with me on a cruise was clothes pins and a makeshift clothes line. If something gets wet or when I use the pool or spa I can dry my clothes easily. Sometimes I can use the hair dryer in a pinch but I dont really want to spend precious vaca time drying wet clothes.
That is a great tip for a cruise trip. Did you pack rope?
We travel quite a bit and your tips are so helpful. And you are so sweet, I love your accent. (I’m Canadian)
Yay! Thank you!
Laurie, I LOVE your videos. If I were to know I would never travel again, I would STILL watch them. I love your personality and so enjoy all your tips. You do so much for us. So very helpful. We appreciate all you do!!!!!
Yay! Thank you!
As always, thanks for the useful info. Love the shirt that you're wearing!
I didn't know about England making you repack your liquids into another bag????
Love your videos!
Yes, they make you repack the liquids in their own ziplock bags. They make you take them out at each gate even though you’ve already been through the initial checkin in and scan.
Hi Lisa. Thanks-the shirt is listed haha.
I’m in Australia and all our flights o/s are long haul and over water and no plane has ever lost the entertainment system. I’ve had flights to Canada that are completely over water and it’s been 100% reliable and I’ve flown to Europe and the UK an Asia, and it’s worked every time all the time. I’ve never flown a US airline though so they might be different. Qantas, BA, Emirates etc, all have uninterrupted wifi and Entertainment
Sounds lovely!
Getting ready to do our fifth Viking River Cruise this October . Passages to Eastern Europe .
Ooh, that should be another beautiful river cruise trip.
Thanks Laurie. We do ocean cruising but one day we might do a river cruise. In any case many of your tips apply to all cruising/packing.
Glad it was helpful! I cannot wait to pack for a river cruise.
I work for Viking ❤ glad you got to experience!
So cool!
Hello Laurie! Love watching your channel. So many great tips and tricks! Going to Antarctica in January ‘24. That will complete my 7 continent travel. But more trips to go on after that. If you have gone through the drake passage would love to see tips and tricks for that!
Oh how amazing! Have a beautiful and wonderful trip!
Perfect timing! We are leaving for an 11 day river cruise in France in 8 days. Tres bon!
Sounds great! Oh how amazing!
