    ad - Today I was looking at the TUI website and found a discount that brings this same cruise next October down to £1098 per person. Given how much everything has gone up in the last couple of years and how much that includes, I think that's a fantastic price. 😇👏🏼
    There are other dates available of course, but the one mentioned above is the 20th of October. 👀😊

      @@kevinwylde4737 - of the three companies we travelled with Amawaterways was definitely the pick. There are no absolute guarantees in life but we just found them to be better organised, a real sense of friendliness and extremely good cruise directors each time. Their ships have a better feel - not too much “shiny finishes and metal edges” while at the same time being modern and comfortable. We have been on both ocean cruises to NZ and in Europe and river cruises on the Rhine and Danube. The river cruises are more expensive per day but all excursions are included and it is a very different feel to an ocean cruise.

      Cilantro is the Spanish word for coriander, it became the common term in American English for coriander leaves, due to its extensive use as an herb in Mexican recipes. But as the previous poster noted, “coriander” is used in American English as well referring to the seeds when used as a spice.

    I've never had any interest in an ocean cruise -- it's basically a big floating resort, and I'd much rather go to an actual resort at that point -- but river cruising has always been tempting. So many European cities and towns grew up around rivers, so you dock in the heart of the city and explore on foot, without having to struggle to the train station every time you travel to a new town. Quick fix for glass bathroom walls: Buy a newspaper, borrow scotch tape, and cover exterior glass walls up to neck height with paper. I did this on my bedroom windows at the house I was temporarily living in -- but used bleached packing paper that I got from GSO office at the Oslo U.S. Embassy. You still got in filtered light, but no one could see in. It was perfect, and almost zero cost or time to accomplish. Plus, it looked very nice from outside.

    Emma, enjoyed the review of your Danube river cruise. We did it from Passau to Budapest and back last September with a swiss company (we live in Switzerland) and everything you talked about brought back so many fun memories. I love river cruising as the passenger numbers are so low and you do „get to know“ all the others - maybe just a smile and a Hi, but still. We also saw tons of Viking ships - everywhere! However they are VERY expensive. My biggest negative about this particular route was that we did all the available excursions and so missed out on alot of the actual „cruising“ - or - the ship did the cruising in the night. We did, with the same swiss company, the Duoro river in Portual in 2020 (HIGHLY recommend!!!) and there they only offered one half-day excursion each day and then the other half was spent cruising to the next stop - loved that! And the scenery on the Duoro is STUNNING!!!! I would like to do a Basel, Switzerland-Amersterdam and back for my next one.

    • @EmmaCruises
      @EmmaCruises  2 года назад +3

      The Douro is my dream 😍

    • @DavidWood2
      @DavidWood2 2 года назад

      The emphasis on river cruising is always on the port stops. This means that much of the cruising is at night though, as you note, it does depend on the river. Douro cruising is often daytime, and the Moselle, which is also very picturesque, often has a fair bit of day cruising. Other exceptions are especially picturesque sections of the Danube (the Wachau Valley that Emma cruised through on this cruise) and the Middle Rhine between Koblenz and Rudesheim am Rhein. Departure from Budapest is often at night, so you can enjoy the lights of the city. On the Viking cruise, I have just returned from, we had an after-dinner cruise of the Port of Rotterdam.
      As you also say, it is common for the ship to cruise onwards whilst you are on an excursion.
      I tend to look at river cruises as rather like a bus tour where you stay in a mobile hotel rather than changing accommodation each night.
      I doubt you would go from Basel to Amsterdam and back in a single cruise - usually you go one way, which takes around a week. Even TUI, which mostly offers round trip river cruises, does Basel to Amsterdam as a one-way itinerary (Rhine Explorer 2). I have done Amsterdam to Basel with Viking (Rhine Getaway) and the Koblenz to Basel section of the Rhine again with Viking on a different itinerary (Paris to the Swiss Alps). Most of the cruising on the Rhine, other than the section from Koblenz to Rudesheim, is likely to be at night, as there are large distances to be covered between each stop and they want to give you the maximum time at each port stop.

    Just before Covid my wife and I booked a river cruise with TUI. The cruise obviously was cancelled and then cancelled again and for a third time. Tui upgraded us to the top package as we just kept agreeing to roll it over to that far off day when it would actually go ahead. Even a drinks package - wasted on us as neither of us is what can be considered a drinker! I think our cruise must have been a couple after yours (or maybe even the same one). Same ship, same itinerary - we loved it. One of my enduring memories was getting up before just about anyone else, pouring a coffee, grabbing a couple of those biscuits and taking a book up top to welcome the sun coming up. The pilot gave me a great run down of handinling the ship as it was about five in the morning and nobody else around - I'm guessing he was bored! There was one particular morning where the clouds were hangling low in the valley and the shipe was clearing its way through the mist/clouds with the birds on the river flying alongiside us - not a sound and the sun just about to say hello. It was breathtakingly beautiful the photos are good but of course cannot do it justice.
    One night we hit a real rainstorm, coming in horizontally. Upstairs was cleared for safety reasons though there was only about half a dozen of us stupid enough to be out of the bar area. we sat at the front, freezing water drenching us and there's half a dozen strangers all laughing like a bunch of schoolkids - talk about bracing.
    We also had a Viking cruise berth alongside which had to come through. We found ourselves at a cafe with a couple of these passenger who had taken a detour to take a look at Skyla - their quote was there's no way there was a thousand pounds difference between what we were enjoying compared to their overpriced surroundings. We teamed up with an American couple (my wife is American though for long been a UK citizen).
    Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and for sure will be going on another TUI river cruise - probably the Rhine in the not too distant future. Enjoyed watching your offering here - thank you.

I tell folks that if they like scenery and want to explore the stops, then river cruising is the way to go. If they just want a floating resort where they can sit by the pool all day, then ocean cruising is the way to go. It just all depends on the type of person and what they want to get out of the experience.

There was no separate area with the toilet, so anyone using that was in full view. I don't care if you're on your honeymoon, I agree that no one wants to see that. And if you're with someone not your significant other? You definitely need to make the other person leave the room each time you use it.

    My daughter and I were on one of the viking cruise line boats on a very similar route. Our only problem is we were always facing the other riverboat except when in Budapest and Passau. All of the other ports we were facing the other ship - which was a big bummer after paying for a french balcony and having only a balcony from the other ship to view. Ugh! We saw your riverboat and noticed that you were usually the only boat at the dock. Everything else was fantastic!! Thanks for your review of this cruise.

      @@antoinettecastle4739 And it was at he start of the season - probably March and not so many people want to cruise in that kind of weather. I certainly wouldn't !

    I have a very simple and cheap solution for the bathroom door/wall problem: the person not using the bathroom looks elsewhere.. great video! Thank you for sharing your experience

    This is great information. I have not wanted to take an ocean cruise because Idon't want to be on a ship with 3000 other people. But I could enjoy this boat with only 150 or less people. However, I am in the US so to add airfare would make the trip too expensive. I would love the scenery of passing villages and taking foot tours at docking. I may have to save up for this!

      I always leave them open. With a boat alongside, I was a brief sideshow.

    The glass bathroom doors could be decent for a couple but beyond that very very strange choice. I would be pretty uncomfortable even with family.

    I took 2 mini-cruises, one from Ayutthaya to Bangkok and the other in Bohol, Philippines. I really enjoyed both. I really want to do one of these multi-day European river cruises!
