🔸🔹 WHAT IS THE MARIOTHON YOU ASK? 🔹🔸
The Mariothon is the ultimate Mario challenge for any gamer! It was created by DGR_Dave and he is currently on a quest to finish the first ever official Mariothon!
So...what's the challenge, you ask? The goal of the Mariothon is to beat every single Super Mario video game ever made. This includes all first party games and licensed games in which Mario is a playable character. Mariothon also includes other video games in which Mario has a prominent supporting role. That's over 150 titles, across 15 gaming systems (and counting)!
Once completed, you can say that you've been there for every quest Mario has ever taken since his humble beginnings in 1983.
What counts as “beating” a game is subjective and will vary drastically depending on the format. Many games can be crossed off the list by completing an any%-style playthrough, but some others will require more creative definitions of completion.

Thousand Year Door is still my favorite, but Super is criminally underrated. Just a really solid action RPG with a fun and engaging story

Super Paper Mario is my favorite in the series. The story is phenomenal and the dialogue is so well written. Hilarious and heart warming with a little darkness/sadness in there too. I think it's great for all ages, and should be looked at more fondly than it is by most Nintendo players. Glad to hear you love it too, Dave!

@@toadragethe5th ehh, not really. The first one isn't so bad and my brother came up with a strat for the fight with her in world 6. Drink a mighty tonic as bowser, open the chest to trigger the fight and just torch her. The battle is over in like, 3 seconds

This is one of my favourite mario games of all time,and i am very happy to see you play it.
I have had the same exact expirience with it,it was my first paper mario game,and even if it's really different from what many were expecting,and so it let many down,but i still think it's an amazing and underrated game.
This was also my first Paper Mario game and I really enjoyed it. It’s definitely not the turning point of the series and I say this because I played Color Splash recently, and while I don’t hate the modern trilogy of games as much as other people do, it’s hard not to notice how different they are.
This was actually the first game I ever played on the Wii. I have so many fond memories of this game! Definitely a game I recommend to anyone who hasn’t played it😁

The first time I played this game, I thought for sure Mr. L was going to be a robot or a clone or something. I thought since it was so obvious it was Luigi, it wouldn't actually be Luigi, but alas, it was Luigi.

SPM is my favorite game of all time. In fact I hope that wallpaper, which uses mostly original custom graphics I made myself (with a couple characters using their Smash 4 trophies instead) is a testament to how much I love this game. The story and characters are fantastic, the callbacks to previous Paper Mario games is always a wonderful things, it brings back a ton of beloved enemies from the earlier PM games while making so many funky new ones. In terms of art direction, character design, tone, stakes, and emotion, this game embodies so many things I want out of a Paper Mario game, and I love the gameplay too, although I do prefer that of the first two games. But for the majority of the pillars that define my love of the Paper Mario series, SPM delivers with full swing. It's the last one I feel this way about too, hopefully one day the series can capture that magic again but it NEEDS to unrestrict its characters again before that's possible.
I finally got to see this after two weeks, because I am often busy. Yeah, this was the last one on my Watch Later List and I am watching it in the evening. It always feels good to clear my WLL. Yeah, this game is quite interesting, I love the mechanic of flipping paper and the interesting dimention. I remember that Mimi vase breaking shenanigan (kind of like Zelda). Yeah, also the fact that all these pure hearts equal a chaos heart, I mean 0 multiplied by 7 doesn't equal 29,411 lol. I loved how you kept it consistent and showed bits of gameplay to avoid spoilers. I love also, that anticlimactic giant 8-bit koopa fight, where the koopa runs and actually gets the powerup himself, I love too that when they get bigger, they become 8-bit, usually being bigger means more graphics. And I loved the mechanic of the hostile villagers, like the villagers still tried to attack you, but you needed to save and avoid attacking them, there are same other games like that, like some enemies that you actually lose points for defeating, I wonder why they were hostile, it's kinda like how you save the chain chomp that tries to kill you in Super Mario 64. Also I can't believe that that game actually includes a character saying 'hot babe'.
Super Paper Mario is one of my favourite games, despite the fact that it turned Mimi into my sleep paralysis demon.
If one wants difficulty in SPM, they just have to try out the Flopside Pit of 100 trials, lol
The love put into all the supposedly insignificant NPCs put this game in line with the spirit the first two Paper Mario games. I will die on this hill.

Honestly, this one's a pretty good game. Maybe not as good as the first two, but it still holds up well, at least in my opinion.
This is probably one of if not my favourite Mario game and my second favourite game of all time.

I kind of love/hate that Dave makes Luigi sound just like Mario.
Despite having played and enjoyed TTYD first, I absolutely love SPM too and completely disagree that SPM was where the Paper Mario games went downhill, however I would say Sticker Star... That's the undeniable BIG YIKES of Paper Mario imo
I personally think PMTTYD is one of the greatest games ever made, but SPM was super enjoyable and a great entry to the series that maintained the charm of the previous games while completely experimenting with the gameplay which most game series just can’t pull off.
While I'm not a huge fan of the action RPG combat of SPM, I'd be lying if I said I didn't love the game. Some of the moments, from the paying off your debt to the dating sim, are so weird yet brilliant at the same time, when the music is good it's great (memories, Flipside and Mr. L's theme are the standouts) and the story is the best I've seen in the Paper Mario series. This and Celeste are the only games to make me cry, so that's a testament to the quality of Super!

Being one of the few people who really enjoy Sticker Star, I don't think Super Paper Mario is the turning point when the Paper Mario series went downhill - because I don't think the series did go downhill, to begin with.
And Super Paper Mario is just lots of fun (which has some lengths to it in some parts, as Dave pointed out).
Agreed, while I haven't played Sticker Star I really enjoyed what the modern Paper Mario games offered (Colour Splash in particular was a hoot in the comedy and music department). Super does have some weak moments (the Crags and heaven/hell chapters in particular are the weakest for me), but the phenomenal story makes it worthwhile
I’m with you, sticker star was my first paper Mario as well as my first 3ds game, so I have fond memories of that game and my old 3ds in general

As a person who has studied math, Merlon's declaration of "Flipside is in no dimension at all" bothers me. Any quanta of space that is not in a defined subset of space, is itself a subset of space. Saying Flipside is between dimensions means there are at least three dimensions: Mario's dimension, Flipside's dimension, and whatever is bookending the two. Otherwise it shares no properties of either dimensions that apparently sandwich it so Mario would not be able to exist in it the same way he exists in his dimension. I know this is the game's clumsy way of explaining the 2D-3D flipping mechanic, but it's not explained well and I disapprove.
It would of been scary if Count Bleck did die when he was defeated. What would have happened then?

You didn't need to leave out the fact that the world is ending because bowser finally married princess peach. You left out what happened immediately after, which is good, but I feel bad that I don't see your reaction to that.
This game was my childhood
Fact the first copies of Super Paper Mario, all have bugs in them, that causes the whole game to crash, and causes the Wii, to keep buzzing, it's to do with speaking to Mimi, when she tries to trick you into going into rooms, and wants Mario and Peach to get crushed.
Super Paper Mario was my paper mario start too although sticker star was the first one i beat i went back and finished this game in 2020

I enjoyed Super Paper Mario until I reached Chapter 7. At that point, I was going up through some clouds, and could not AT ALL find any way to progress!

Well, considering Super Paper Mario as the Beginning of the Downfall is a bit speculative, because yeah, gameplay is different but the story was still good, then in Sticker Stars they returned to the RPG Battle somehow but they made Enemies irrelevant because you don't get Experience Points to level up your stats.
While Super Paper Mario may be a downhill, Sticker Stars is a complete Fall into a cliff

I never got this paper Mario. I felt it ruined what paper had going for it by throwing in the 2d aspect. It also lost unique partners as well.Also losing the turned based combat was a big no to me.The original paper Mario is one of my all time favorite games.

Super paper mario was underrated because the graphics were such a downgrade to the more stylish previous entry. The humor was good, but the 3D mode looked so empty. It was also too easy except for the repetitive side quests

This was my first Paper Mario game too, and currently the only one I've played - I have fond memories looking at the Nintendo Player's game guide to help me out in Chapter 8-4. Totally agree with everything you said - I really like and possibly even prefer the action-RPG gameplay style that makes it similar to a standard 2D Mario game, just adding tons of items and HP to turn it into an RPG. And the music is so memorable too, I had fun playing some of it myself last year! I'll have to watch the full VOD sometime for sure :-)
