Help for Small Finger Numbness: Cubital Tunnel Relief
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- Do you have numbness and tingling of your small finger and half of your ring finger? If so, follow along as I demonstrate two nerve flossing exercises that can help relieve your numbness and tingling caused by cubital tunnel syndrome.
Cubital tunnel syndrome is a condition that occurs when the ulnar nerve, which runs from your neck to your hand, is compressed at the elbow. This can cause numbness, tingling, and weakness in your pinky and ring fingers.
These exercises are the best way to relieve cubital tunnel symptoms because they safely floss, or glide, your ulnar nerve. Other exercises focus on range of motion and strength, which causes you to over stretch your nerve.
In this first ulnar nerve flossing exercise you will learn how to slack the nerve at the joints above and below the elbow. This allows the nerve to begin comfortably sliding through all the small ligaments, muscles, and fascia in the arm.
In the second exercise, you will learn how to glide the nerve slow and symptom free by incorporating your shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.

As a guitar player, I was getting numbness in my pinky and ring finger. This has been helping a lot. Thank you so much..
On strumming/picking hand?
@@dmitrizaslavski8480 my fretting hand. It's about 65% now.
Does this work? I am a multi instrumentalist i play guitar drums piano and because of this numbness my life has became miserable i haven't been able to go on gigs for quite a long time now
@@rakeshchitra487 I am still 3 months later battling the numbness in my pinky and half the ring finger. I say, I am about 75% better on most days but it's still there. Looking at surgery. Haven't gotten the shots yet which many say help but I don't want to mask a problem. I want to fix it.
@@rakeshchitra487 I have gotten used to playing with the numbness a lot better now.
I'm a fiddle player and I was really worried I was finished. Did this ONCE and I notice a real difference. Thank you.
The healing continues. The stretching is easy to do anywhere. I had a gig last night and didn't even notice the numbness. The real problem was a weakness in my pinky (essential to hit high notes). 3 hour performance and again, no symptoms. Just a slight tingle today but it's different. Feels strong.
far too long and detailed reply, apologies if it isn’t helpful, though I hope the info can be useful to someone…
Keep up the work, it’ll help, see a physiotherapist or PT (or whatever they’re called where you live) if symptoms persist as there’s other areas that could be causing issues; check for shoulder posture, tightness in the elbow and forearm muscles. After a gig, if it doesn’t make it worse, ice your hand or elbow (google for proper application of cold therapy). Also get your neck checked out, suggest upper trap/upper trap reverse origin stretches, delts, and especially lats, they can all impinge on that nerve.
Also, breathe from the diaphragm, don’t over recruit accessory breathing muscles (sternocleidomastoid and scalenes, though the latter is apparently now considered a primary breathing muscle).
It all accrues, and the nerve pathway can easily be affected, especially if it’s already inflamed or sensitized.
Look to over the counter NSAID (anti inflammatory) medications like ibuprofen and voltaren.
Or better still ask your GP if it’s appropriate (doesn’t contraindicate with anything you already take or with any existing health conditions) to prescribe a Cox2 anti inflammatory like meloxicam (Mobic and celecoxib are the brand names I know) to help with inflammation aspects.
I’m a guitarist of 30+ years, with a bad shoulder (from a rotator cuff tear about a decade back), a dodgy back (chronic long term), having already suffered carpal tunnel syndrome in my 20’s and had successful relief surgery for that… also likely minor RSI from using hand and power tools since I was a kid.
Over the years the nerve symptoms have come back in a minor way, sometimes worse than others, sometimes not at all, but typically it’s occasional numbness or pins and needles carpal tunnel side (usually caused by my shoulder dropping through fatigue, compressing the nerve pathway), occasional numbness ring and pinky finger, occasional more severe nerve symptoms like stabbing/shooting pain in my pinky and middle fingers, pins and needles and numbness pinky and ring finger…
I too could also immediately feel the symptoms ease while following the exercises in this video.
This type of glide exercise typically helps with a number of peripheral nerve pathway symptoms in a number of locations on the body… just look to the specifics of a nerve glide for the affected peripheral nerve pathway. I do nerve glides in my calf and hip, and targeted stretches (specifically for the hip flexors; ileacus and PSOAS which is the single biggest muscle to directly attach to the spine, hence it puts a lot of pressure right on the area of my spine the dodgy disc is located) to help with sciatic nerve related leg pain.
*disclaimer - if the nerve symptoms are indicative of a centrally sensitized nervous system… spinal chord and relevant nerve root branches, then rest and professional treatment by a qualified physio/PT is likely going to be the best way forwards.
To figure this out, see diagrams showing referral patterns (likely called something like “peripheral and segmental skin innervation”), which will help identify where referred nerve pain originates. My physio had diagnosed my L4/5 extrusion herniation (as a likely herniation) via symptoms like exactly where the numbness/sensation changes were on my foot, lower leg and upper leg, weeks before the MRI scan confirmed the extent of the injury.
Sufficient resting of the effected area and treatment (eg appropriate use of anti inflammatories like ibuprofen and basic pain relief from paracetamol/acetaminophen) is also going to be very important for any forward progress with nerve symptoms, especially if the origin is referred not localized. But that’s best being guided by a qualified doctor and then a good physiotherapist/PT. My physio has a masters degree, not just a basic physiotherapy degree.
I believe that this kind of nerve stretching/gliding should be taught to beginner musicians, stringed instruments especially.
I’m currently rehabbing a lower back herniation, so am very familiar with nerve symptoms.
we do for the sciatic nerve pain, it was very easy for me to understand this video, but I feel like anyone could follow this video, and assuming it’s correctly identified/diagnosed (even through personal research) can gain relief.
Good luck with your Fiddle mate.
@@NJB183 it went away. :)
WHAT THE HECK?!! i'VE BEEN SUFFERING THIS FOR DAYS, AND THE FRIST EXCERCISE GAVE ME AN IMMEDIATE RELIEF
You literally just saved my life I feel 500% better already. I have an elbow that I damaged a nerve a long time ago and now its came back with a vengeance. Thanks so much for your video, you are amazing.
You are Making. Doing this whole routine from 1st exercise to the last just once has releaved my pain considerably. Thanks a lot
Omg! Not only did this help with my numbness but, the area around my elbow feels significantly better as well.
Yay!!That's great!
Life saving
@@VirtualHandCarewhat about my left middle finger tip is knumb, and it just came on,,do you think it got nerve damage or a pinched nerve?when.my nail was cracked, when a nail technician put on acrylic nails?its really weird because it is only in my middle left fingertip only, the same finger that my nail was cracked?I don't understand ,because it came on suddenly?
How long it took you to get better
had to say this, was feeling numbness for over a week and considering to consult a doctor, but doing your exercise for sometime really gave me some relief. Will continue doing this for some more time. Thanks a lot
Had tingling and some numbness for the past 2 and a half hours (first time that long, previously it was lasting a couple of minutes max). Did the first ecercise a few times and it's almost back to normal!
Thank you! That did help quite a bit. The numbness came on very quickly…..now it’s much better, not quite gone.
Just did 5 minutes of these exercises and feel relief! I’ll be doing this more often. Thanks!!
Wonderful! Doing them daily really helps!
Thank you random nerve healing lady I was scared for a minute and the first few reps of the second I found relief
Omg thanks for this just this twice i felt immediate relief, i bump my elbow on my dinner table and felt tingling in my fingers for days
WOW!!!! I have no numbness after working through the steps a few times until I could get to the point with no numbness. Thank you so much for this video.
This numbness is getting on my nerves
Thanks for the vid
I have this problem in both of my arms & its veey painful & dehabilting. Finally a safe exersize I can do to help strenghten & heal my arms! Thank you so much!!
You're welcome! I hope it helps you!
I had to come back and say thanks. This was bothering me for months before I looked it up. Two days of your flossing, and I only do it now for prevention when I think about how it's not numb anymore. 🎉
Thankyou!!! Massive improvement almost straight away. Great video, straight to the point and very clear.
That's great news! May need to keep it up for continued improvement.
love your vibe. your beautiful onscreen energy. and of course your exercises. love you gave a very gentle one. helped me a lot as every other youtube channel only show extreme ones.
I am confused. Several times you say "Be sure you are symptom-free" before going to the next exercise......."Make sure you are not getting numbness and tingling" from the exercise.... I DO have numbness and tingling which is why I am trying the exercises.
Absolutely...
Don't force it too much. That's it
The symptoms flare up more the more you progress in the exercise if yours are that bad you shouldn't progress and you should do the first version of the exercise only, also go to a doctor too because when i first got this condition my nerve was inflamed and needed medication first.
Don’t exacerbate it
She means, if the exercise makes it worse, don't go further ..
Thank you I have been looking now for 2 months and then I found this video big help num and tingling continuity I will be on exercise 1 for a while thanks 😊
Very pleased with this video as it's easy to follow, and it has also given me awareness that my muscles are too tight, which is actually what's causing the nerve issue.
Definitely felt more numbness during the exercise but was feeling relief during certain stages so I'm thankful for finding your video. I'll be doing more of these as i just recently noticed the numbness in the outside fingers of my hand this morning.
These exercises look great - I've had a pinched nerve for a bout a week now, and I will try to do these exercises every day for a bit before Ispend any money on doctors ...
Did this helped you?
I played so much beat saber that I ended up learning about how fragile my ulnar nerve is lol This helped a lot!
❤Thanks this has been very helpful to me in highlighting and pinpointing my problems. I am sure with your exercises my numbness would reduce. I had a very bad fall last year. My thigh bone is recovering but my small fingers are still tingling a lot.
Which time taken to your thigh bone recovery Actually I have similar situation
Same! Just knowing that there are specifics that divide the possible cause of my problem to "one thing or the other" was 1000x useful information.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you for the helpful information. I was getting worried.
thanks miss. my country is sri lanka.numbness came on very quickly i think my father feeling better.
AMAZING!!! Just tried this and experienced some immediate relief! Thank you❤
Lifesaver literally worked for me going to start incorporating this daily especially at work after welding.
This actually helped right away, been dealing with this for like 2 weeks. thanks
Thank you so much. Had Carpal Tunnel right hand and right thumb surgery. Good. Need of the hour in my pains. 🙏

Amazing - worked straight away. Thank you.
Awesome vid! Knowing specifically what my problem is was very useful information. +1.
. . . Now if I could only stop sleeping on my arm and pushing my workouts, that would be great!
Thanks. Big help
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much. 🙏🏾
Best advice ever
Thanks Doctor for all the info.

Thankyou soo much❤
From india 🇮🇳
I’m impressed. That helped
Very helpful than you so much my hand has been hurting for 2 days
This is so helpful
Thank you so much you are amazing!!❤❤
thank you for this
You say not to move to step 2 until I don’t have symptoms or not to flex the wrist too much if I have symptoms but I have numbness in my pinky 24/7 . Will doing the 1st step still help?
Thanks a lot
Thanks, had some numbness now much better.
It's very helpful. Thank you so much Ms.
I have both pain and tingling sometimes Thumb area and sometimes last 2 fingers.. I also have oposite end of my elbow inner part is in very bad pain.. I thought that was causing my hands to go numb but its always either side of my hands not at the same time.. Thank you for making this video for us...
I just do as the video and wow it was amazing!
instant relief. thank you!
You are amazing
What if I experience tingling after the first exercise itself?
Fixed thanks
It is going to be my every day exercise.
This helped immediately ❤
Wooooooow really great exercise I subscribed to your informative channel , Thank u
Thanks for this. Is it also usual to have lost strength in the affected hand?
I love you 💘💘 ma'am 💕💕 you explain so clearly with beautiful 😍😍 smile.🌹🙏🌹
any clue why I would only get this when doing pullups? Is this an issue of stretching that nerve further than it is used to or something?
IT WORK TYSM!!!!!!!
fr
whoaaaa i felt almost instant relief. thank you so much for this!!! will definitely do these exercises as the days progresses
what happens if the numbness last for months
I found I started having grip strength issues and weakness doing dumbbells. then noticed about 2 weeks later numbness in pinky and ring finger. Went to chiropractor and had adjustments. That helped a lot. Still some weakness. Is this due to just a slow progression not having all muscles firing right in arm?
Trying this now, but I am curious what if my forearm does not allow to supinate all the way? Does this stop the nerve from laxing?
Well, they bring instant relief
I've been getting Cubital Tunnel from laying in bed doing homework on my laptop, which is probably the reason I've been avoiding it.
it's really affecting my left hand stride and ragtime piano playing
I get numbness in both hands pinky and ring finger while I'm asleep. Is this exercise suitable for that as well?
If my entire hand tingles should I be doing ulnar, medial and radial nerve glides?
Wow THANK YOU 🙏🏻
How would you reccomended this stretching for us with hypermobility?
It would be the same. The purpose is to move in phases and to not overstretch the nerve, which can be helpful even with hypermobility.
@VirtualHandCare thank you so much. It's so hard to understand what will be helpful for hypermobility. Because I've found some stretching needs to actually be felt which is hard to achieve.
@@GythiaTorvay Nerves are a different story! Nerve stretching is NOT the same as muscle stretching and should not be stretched until you feel something. I also do not agree that even muscle stretching should be felt for someone with hypermobility. Stability and balance of the joints are more important.
@VirtualHandCare I greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond to me. It's so hard to find anyone in my area that has actual knowledge for hypermobility. I can't even find someone to give us (myself and daughter) a true diagnosis beyond 'benign joint hypermobility syndrome'. We just keep getting thrown between specialists, meds and pt (that didn't help).
i has been 2 weeks now since the inflamation on the fingers came the video help me a loot i am not goonna lie. But it doesn't go away should i go to a doctor?
thanks mam it is showing changes
this helped a lot tysm
Hello :)
Can I train in the gym if I'm getting numbness of my ulnar nerve?
How many times
Hi, I have trigger fingers and thumb, my thumb gets stuck across my palm i have hypermobility EDS so i don't know if it is sublux of thumb at the base of it. Thanks.
I do alot of gaming on my pc. Do you think what caused this was pressure on the elbow while leaning on my desk?
Hi I really love ur content I had 4pins on my 4 metacarpal and 5 I had them off for like 10 days how long should I go to the gym to be more clear I had the surgery 3months now
Great exercises. Does exercise 1 also help with trigger finger in the ring finger? Thanks.
What if there is tingling present during the first exercise?
Will tennis elbow cause this from bench pressing?
i have this in both the hands, what should i do now
Thank you my pinky had been numb for weeks and this made it almost go away instantly I will do this every day I thought some more serious was happening to me seriously thank you for making this video.
Can ULNAR nerve entrapment also cause twitching in the pinky?
This is the first time I’ve experienced this so I don’t know if I’m anxious but when I try the first exercice my ears started ringing and I felt faint. Is that a problem?
Are these exercises good to do after having ulnar release surgery?
Hi.. when i do 2nd excercise and bend the neck i feel some muscle moving under the shoulderblade.. also in the arm near shoulder.. is this normal can i continue excercise.. thanks
Guys i fixed it, but i don't know how exactly. I don't wake up 5 times a night from numbness. I had this for like 5 months i've been exercising and everything, but i think that helped me was "thumb pulling", i believe that when i made pressure on thumb made difference, but i'm not sure!
What if my tingling and numbness do not come and go. What if it's a constant sensation? Can I still do the exercises?
