  • Ek Mek is a creamy vanilla dessert, with a cake layer drenched in a tasty vanilla syrup, topped with a vanilla custard, and then finished off with a whipped cream, cinnamon and toasted almond for a garnish. Cool and creamy and delicious. One of my family's favourites.
    Ingredients:
    Cake:
    ¾ cup oil (176 ml)
    ¾ cup sugar (150 gm)
    ¾ cup flour (96 gm)
    4 eggs
1 tsp baking powder (5 ml)
1 Tbsp vanilla - use clear vanilla or vanilla or vanillin powder
    Syrup:
    1.5 cups sugar (300 gm)
    1.5 cups water (375 ml)
    1 tsp vanilla (5 ml)
    Custard:
4.5 cups of whole milk (1125 ml)
1 cup of sugar (200 gm)
6 tbsp of cornstarch (45 gm)
    a pinch of salt
    2 drops yellow food colouring
    2 envelopes of vanillin sugar

Hi Yelena! Thank you for the comment. Is that what they call Ek Mek in Greece, now? Trying to get away from the Turkish name, I’m guessing… haha…
This is a very good version of it, if I do say so myself. Our friend used to make it for our family but when she got older, she gave me the recipe and I shared it with her blessing… I hope you do try it! I’d love to hear what you think of it when you make it.
      Enjoy!!

@MomsGreekKitchen I named it the way I tried in Athens restaurant... I do still have a test of it. So, I am really happy you are sharing it. I will call it Ek mek moving forward.

@@yelenashaburova3196 haha... I don't mean you have to change the name... I just hadn't heard that name before... as long as you make it and like it, call it whatever you like. Ek mek means bread, in Turkish, from what I understand... but I am not 100% sure....
Anyway, thanks for the comment and I hope you love the recipe like my family does...
      Thank you again!! :)
