- Hello Foodies!
Another fried snack for you all! Sesame Balls. Sesame balls are a popular dessert/snack/appetizer all over Southeast Asia, China, Japan, etc. Today, I'll show you how to make the mung bean filling version commonly eaten in Vietnam. It's light, crispy, chewy, and nutty. Sesame balls can be filled with anything such as sweetened red bean, sweet potato, taro, and any other savory fillings. It's a great snack or dessert for a potluck. A lot of Hmong people loves to make sesame balls for special occasions. So I hope this recipe allows you to make a bunch of delicious sesame balls for what ever occasion it is. Happy cooking.
Please be kind, stay safe, practice good health hygiene, and help one another during this hard time.
Much love -Cindy

Ingredients --Mung bean filling--
1 cup split peeled mung beans soaked (200g)
1 to 1 1/2 cup water to cook the mung beans (375ml)
1/2 cup sugar (100g)
1/2 cup fresh shredded coconut (or unsweetened dried) (50g)
1/4 tsp salt (1g)
--Dough--
1/2 cup mash potato flakes (27g)
½ cup hot water (for the potato flakes) (125ml)
2 cup warm water (500ml)
3/4 cup sugar (150g)
16 oz bag glutinous rice flour (476g)
1 cup rice flour (136g)
1 tbsp baking powder (12g)
1 tsp salt (6g)
--COATING--
1 cup raw sesame seeds (not roasted) (142g)
NOTE: Make sure the oil is at medium low to allow the sesame ball to slowly cook fully from the inside out. If your oil is too hot, your sesame balls will explode while frying! Super hot oil will react fast to the baking powder and the glutinous is rice flour which causes it to explode. Please be careful and mindful! Cook on medium low heat for best & safer results! Хобби
I used this video to make sesame balls today and they came out perfect! I also used your kophiek video the other day to make the noodles and they came out really good! I'm Hmong and I am so happy I've found someone that can make the dishes the way I like them, how my parents, uncles and aunts made them. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I made many attempts but unsuccessful. Your is the only one of many that I’ve successfully made it. Again, thanks for sharing your recipes with us!

Thank you . I finaly made it even with most indonesian fav filling (mungbean + coconat milk +sugar + pandan leaf) Your dough recipe is perfect 👍👍
I’ve been trying a lot of recipes because my dough never comes out right. Made your recipe today for a family gathering. Finally, success! Nice and hollow in the middle with the dough crispy outside and chewy inside. Not one left. Super easy too! Thank you.
I always thought the mung bean was a egg yolk 😂🤣🤣🤣
Glad I’m not the only one.

Might be thinking of another dessert type, I forget the name...

Omg I love essence balls. I want some
I'm really looking forward to trying out your recipe! I love the tips you gave us, super helpful. And if the rice flour we use isn't glutenous, does that affect the expansion/hollowness of the ball? I have non-glutenous sweet rice flour and baking powder, but I'm not sure which ingredient makes it expand more, or is it both?
Thank you for your recipe, I made according your recipe successfully
I tried your recipe and it turned out delicious!
I personally prefer the mung bean over the red bean, thank you for the recipe.

Ok definitely going to try, is there a way to make the dough and filling together in the ball a day ahead? Then fry the day of?
These are best to make the day of. They will dry out and crack if you make a day ahead.
Will this be a good recipe for sesame balls with no filling? I’m excited to try this recipe!

Hi beautiful CHerCreations!
Thank you for sharing your video with us.
I’ve followed your cooking . How do you fries/cooks this balls without popping?!
I tried several times and it popped in me.😢
I want to freeze half of the dough. How would you recommend freezing it? After frying or before frying?
I would recommend frying them first and then freezing them.
1 of my old bf was cambodian. He would bring me these. I just thought of them & i want them soooo bad! Ima make them!
Are there such things as lemon filled sesame balls ??!! Those would be so good 😋
