- This is the first trailer for my private free time animation "The Lord Inquisitor", based on Warhammer 40.000. I have done this almost alone over the last 1.5 years of hard work and was lucky to gain a cool community who support my animation. Scenario 2: "Oh look, an alien artifact... BURN IT!"
I believe guards or atleat everyone above know about them, its regular civillians that dont. Also the mechanicus have a very high priority of gaining new knowledge.
It isn't the inquisition, it's ordo malleus' dogs, the Grey Knights.

Well, the voice acting needs work, in my opinion, but aside from that the animation is fricking amazing! I mean, you did all of that in your free time? That's incredible, man! I want to see more of this.
This is incredible, and that it is being created by one man blows my mind. You are extremely talented. The only glaring problem with it right now is that the voice action and animation really isn't at the same level as the rest of the piece. I think it would do you a world of good and bring the whole production up to a new level of quality to at least higher 1 or two good voice actors and maybe an animator to just polish up those areas of short. Really great work though mate, love the warships and the scene where they are exiting warp.
Also someone who can do sound effects.

Looks solid. Even though I am American myself, the accents kind of throw me off. When I read anything 40k related or imagine the way characters in that universe talk, I always imagine they have more British sounding accents than American ones.
In reality, the accents would be very diverse and impossible to place.
I usually imagine the Space Wolves with a more Scandinavian accent, Vostroyan Firstborn and Valhallan Ice Warriors with Eastern European accents, Cadian shock troops with (stereotypical) Canadian/ B-Movie American accents, Catachan Jungle Fighters with American accents (think Vietnam War movies), Tallarn Desert Raiders with Middle Eastern and British accents, Salamanders with either African or British accents (depending on the time of day), Death Korps, Mordian Iron Guard, and Steel Legion with German accents (or sometimes Star Wars stormtrooper voices for the Death Korps), Elysian Drop Troops with German/British/French accents, and Chaos Space Marines sounding like British Megatrons (or Starscreams if they're Slaaneshi). Orks, Grots, and Gretchins sound like Cockney Football Thugs, Adepta Sororitas voices tended to vary from day-to-day, and Dark Eldar sound like Stewey Griffin and Stewey Griffin with a sex change.

The new trailer shows an amazing amount of progress in both writing and voice acting. I can't wait to see how the final project turns out barring any interference from GW's C&D lawyers.

One of the conditions that he was given to be able to legally make this is that he can't make any money off of it.
That however doesn't mean he can't create a Kickstarter campaign to help fund this. Just he would have to ensure all moneys received are accounted for. That being that would be a lot of work. Too bad GW is still sore over that Ultramarines movie, else they might consider funding this.
usernamunavailiable The legal contract, as far as I know, specifically stated no money in or out. He can't get money even from friends, nevermind kickstarter. In fact I believe (I might be wrong on this) that the original kickstarter was the reason for the legal drama.
Copyright law can certainly be confusing, especially when you are talking about crossing borders. I do know at least in the US you can make a fan movie under the satire clause, but you can not profit from it. However if he signed a contact, those terms would be the rule. Kinda sad though, because that doesn't make this seem very hopeful. Bad voice acting or not the trailer certainly piques interest.
He can't open a Kickstarter, can't collect donations. For fucks sake GW, you should be PAYING them to make this. GW's idiocy and greed never cease to amaze me when it comes to handling their IP.

The cool thing is that Black Library Writer Aaron-Dembski-Bowden (I'm sure I spelt that wrong) is now working on the project and the script has been REVISED, and also the guy who made the music for the Ultramarines movie is working on this
EvidensInsania The voice acting is also a touch stilted; statements don't flow, and there's a lot of short sentences with awkward pauses in-between.
A bit more production value on the technical side and some more rehearsal from the voice actors would probably be enough to fix it. But yeah, 40k feels like it needs the British accents, from the Orks (A cockney accent) to high-authority Imperials (upper-class "Queen's English" ala Peter Cushing) and so on.

Wow as a proof of concept this is the best realised 40k universe I have ever seen... With a little work on animation (character movement is a little stiff) this could be a real gem. Brilliant!

Why not? In the latest Apocalypse rules (several years old by now), superheavies aren't limited to 6" a turn. The only special movement rule they have is that they can't Jink; they can do cruising speed and flat out just fine.

Hmm don't know - to me British accent is what they need for the Imperium. And no I am neither British nor American. But USA accent just sounds cheesy...
Listen, the Imperium includes a large amount of ethnic groups and cultures that were found on Terra and spread through the stars. They all (mostly) speak universal low gothic, but each sector and world probably has its own accents within lore influences and the theming GW gave to their armies. Cadia is based on the British/Canadian army (besides the obvious Starship Troopers influence), so they usually have British to North American sounding accents accents. Valhalla is based on the Soviet Red Army in WW2, so they probably have Russian accents, and I would imagine Valhalla was once colonized by Rus settlers in the Dark Age of Technology or the age before it. Elysian Drop Troopers are based on American Paratroopers from WW2, so they would probably have American accents (even though there is barely any information about Elysia). Chogoris is based on Mongolia, so I would imagine Mongolian accents. The Imperium is not a monophonic place.
However, I think the real consternation people have is that the voice acting isn't very good, not that they're using American Accents. Dawn of War had American accents, from the gruff Catachans (based on Vietnamese Jungle Fighters and Rambo, obviously) to Vance "Motherfucking" Stubbs.
***** yeah I've been pondering myself what they could be. We don't get a lot of info on Elysia other than "They get attacked by pirates a lot so their pdf is trained regularly with these attacks." They're weapons look like bullpups though so maybe they're based on the French. Outside of official sources, I've always had it headcanoned that the Elysian aesthetic is parts permanent USA during WW2 and WW2 post-liberation France

How could the sounds be iconic when (minus a few video games, none of which use the same sounds) Warhammer exists entirely in mediums without audio (tabletop miniatures and books)?

Because when the games came out,that was the thing that defined the whole combat,and space marines them selves,WH40kDoW defined the pace,feel and sound for Warhammer as it is known today,and i am sorry,but the tabletops,as good as they were,would of died out and nobody would of even known what Warhammer is,if not for the PC games,so the argument about them is a rather pointless effort to defend something that was not done properly,if a (heavy)bolter does not sound like a proper bolter,it's not Warhammer.

Animation is good, don't know about any of the voices, kind of annoying and American. No offence to Americans but Warhammer 40k is good because it isn't American in any way, Starcraft is what happens when Americans do Space Marines. Warhammer 40k needs European accents - German, French, British etc.
HEY. What's wrong with starcraft?
Nothing wrong with starcraft as a game, but the characters portrayed starcraft are very American; the marines act very gun ho in a sort of Hollywood "ora get some." Badass dudes; they almost have an element of comic relief about them.
Warhammer 40k is allot darker and grim, the marines and the Imprium in general are very serious and stoic, and I don't think the American accent lends itself quite as well to this as a German or British English accent does.
I don't have anything against Americans or starcraft, the marines in Starcraft are fun to listen to but they're not 40k. Even in cinematics where Jim Raynor is all depressed and drinking whisky its something out a western movie, very cool but doesn't have the medieval gothic feeling 40k requires. And this is partly down to his accent.

(The statement 'isn't American in any way' is incorrect. The model designs for the Catachan Jungle Fighters in the Imperial Guard are based off of the United States military during Vietnam, with some Rambo thrown in. They've got the personality typically associated with us to, kind of arrogant rough-and-tumble super-macho pricks who don't like authority coming in and trying to tell them what to do, and prefer to settle things with their fists than talk it out. And the Adeptus Arbites, are based off of Judge Dredd, and while that is a British comic it is a British comic SET in the United States, or at least the dystopian wasteland where it used to be.
I'll acknowledge that these are nitpicks, however I hate broad sweeping statements like that, especially when one of the things I love about the universe and especially the Imperial Guard is the immense variety and cultural inclusion you get from it. Every type of society is found in the Imperium, and exploring that world can be truly fascinating with a surprise around every corner.
And actually I'm not even going to argue on the voice... I just hate that completely dismissing a part of something, and of course I am American so I had a knee-jerk reaction of aggravation to back that up.)

ummm, what? I felt that one of the voices was badly done, and that was purely because the voice that actor was trying to achieve was probably too far out of his element to properly perform.

The voice acting is stiff in this, that's all. It's been five years; they've had lots of time to work on voice acting and could even have all the lines in the can by now if they were working on it concurrently with the CGI work.
Exatly it is stiff, and I think its meant to be an ultra stiff character so I don't see what's wrong.

GamesWorkshop is ridiculous sometimes.. they give their license to garbage like ultra marines and a bunch of cheap cash in games.. but good stuff like this? naahhh..

I'd prefer British voice acting myself, however, the Warhammer 40K universe is large enough to have different dialects of the common tongue, and the people who're making this are obviously American, so it's really a rather trivial complaint, namely when it's looking this good.

Typanoid I dont think it is trivial, when the fiction (games, audio books) are mostly British voiced. Everyone is american here, it doesn't exactly do it any favours. The same could be said if the whole of GoT was american accents, there is no way it would have been as good as it is now.

Every time i watch this i pick out something new. What a truly talented individual to have created this as a unofficial production off his own back. The attention to detail in every frame is remarkable. Eramus has totally captured the essence of this universe and i thoroughly applaud his work. His selection of three short videos completely pisses all over Games Workshops own attempt at digital story telling, I.E the very disappointing 'Ultramarines'' movie. (I will never forget, never forgive). Surely a petition to GW for some licencing and funding for this guy is something a lot of fans would get behind.
Well let me just say WELL DONE, that is an incredible piece of work and you should be very proud!
It's simple, one man passionate about the project, is worth more than a team merely paid to churn it out.
You should release some HD stills as wallpapers, the Grey Knight with the Heavy bolter etc.. lots of awesome stills in there! great work!

This as a stand alone project mate is incredible! I studied computer animation at uni and although not very good at it, I can appreciate the time and effort into building and rigging those characters. As others say, this is a whole lot better looking than Ultra Marines. You have created a far greater atmosphere and I believe capture the feel of Warhammer 40K really well. Please don't stop!

Wow man, I am not familiar with anything War Hammer related, but this is animation is so cool I would definitely pay to watch a movie like this. Good job :)

1:56 Really good job with the Grey Knight on the heavy bolter mount. The shells are actually ascending into the sky because his Thunderhawk is descending. Really good attention to detail there.

The way the guy said "is a lie" and the gun recoil ruined it, but its still a great video and trailer, i'm hoping that this will be a real game!
