This particular dresser build for this woodworking dresser is simple yet at the same deceptively challenging, hence the quotes in the title. It does have some DIY elements, but is not necessarily a pure DIY dresser build. For a wood dresser build, there's a little joinery woodworking for beginners, such as the half blind lock joint. The half blind lock joint is a pretty basic joint that can be done with or without a dado stack and helps give this modern dresser build a clean industrial look. The india ink on the base offsets the white dresser carcass and helps elevate this to one of many unique modern dresser designs. This could be a great bedroom dresser but could also, practically speaking, be a chest of drawers build for any room in your home. The half lap and bridle joint hybrid for the base is a unique joinery woodworking project that can test even the most seasoned craftsmen, but in my opinion is accessible to all. The dresser drawers themselves are highlighted by the continuous grain fronts and once again the black pulls pop against the paint dresser. Hope you guys like the video and I'm looking forward to see your attempts at the modern bedroom dresser and interpretations of the build.

Okeyyyy.....👍👍👍

Thank you
Great work. I don't think that painting oak black is a sin, but hiding those joints may be.
Ha! Thanks. Maybe I’ll do them again on a different project.
Them soft close drawers tho....Amazing work. I can’t get over how good the ombré wood looks- and perfect pulls! Can’t believe those are Ikea! Love!
6 bucks for a two pack!
Good techniques!
Glad you like them!
Turned out fantastic, Chris! I really like how you angled the corners of the base.
Thanks brudaddy ❤️
That thumbnail would’ve earned my subscription if I hadnt already
Honestly for you I should have showed a little more skin.
Looks awesome. Nice improvising with that dado stack!
Thanks tamar! I wouldn’t have even thought about that joint until I saw you do it. I will say that from a structural/weight bearing perspective it was perfect to support a butt load of clothes.
Cow Dog Craft Works haha! Good to know! I’m excited to use it for something. Just gotta figure out what. Ha
Nice build! Good choice with the buffalo trace too! Cheers!
Haha thank you. Lot of work but a good time nonetheless.
beautiful!!
Thank you! It was such a fun build.
amazing
Thanks! But honestly if you think this is cool... check out my later videos. I’ve lapped that video in terms of skill and coolness.
That looks awesome!
Thank you! It’s got a nice home in my bedroom. The mrs. loves it too. Could have probably even used a couple more drawers if I was a sadist.
Nicely done Chris and great video edit too
Thanks Johnny! It was a grind and a hell of a long video but worth it.
Hey Chris, really beautiful modern dresser! Well done!
Thanks jolien! It was a fun one.
5 second gold-fish rule, ha! That got me to subscribe.
Glad to have you on board! Honestly even if it was ten seconds... I still would have ate it.
@@CowDogCraftWorks me too
Excellent craftsmanship, design and style!
Much appreciated.
Awesome project and video Chris! I had a feeling the bandy clamps would make an appearance on this one!
Whatcha think? Bandy clamp vid or nah?
Definitely - or at least a segment within a video
It's always exciting when your twin brother shows up to give you a hard time 🤔🤓
He’s a real dick
Great work buddy 👍🏻 Can’t believe she doesn’t know if she likes wood 😉💪🏻
That’s one of my favorite episodes of that show. Ha. “Do you respect wood?”
Been waiting for this video. I love that joint ever since I saw it from Tamar. You both made it look pretty easy. Can't wait to try it on a project one day
The best thing I can say is that it’s “kinda” easy. Ha. It’s a great structural joint though. Strong as hell and tons of surface area for glue.
Dude your shots and editing are getting good af.

-Sir, how much overspray do you like on your truck?
-Yes
Great build ;)
Yeah my truck is a victim of all kinds of overspray. The mrs. knows not to park her car too close to the shop. 🤣
Nice video bro keep it up
Thanks, will do!
Hey Chris what model is that Wagner electric spray gun
I think it’s for the flexio 2500 but honestly i can’t remember off hand.
found you on instructables great job you should think about making everything including table saw mobile i did this years ago due to space problems an wotn go back to static mounted tools hopes this helps look forword to seeing more from you
Yeah man I’ve been thinking about throwing the mobile base onto the table saw! Most everything else I’ve got is mobile. I should have a new workbench with video by summer too. It’ll be traditional but have those knockdown casters so I can slide her around.
@@CowDogCraftWorks I just bought some cheap harbor freight locking casters for my base I am all for getting the best money can buy but when money is short you learn to make things work my saw is a heavy old craftsman contractor saw 3hp that had a leg base i threw it away an built it so the dust goes below the saw as i didn't have a collector at the time the drawer slides out and i dump it when full would take pics and share but shop is packed up right now so living through guys like you till i get it unpacked
Haha glad to help. The jet is super solid. I got it, along with most of my tools, on offer up for a crazy deal.
@@CowDogCraftWorks yea well i am have tool lust for your festool joiner an saw and jet is is no slacker either I use mostly really old stuff 30 plus years old an some newer Grizzly tools
Fun story: I got that jet table saw, 3 hp 220v with a dust collector for $900 on offer up. They domino is the only tool I bought new. I factored the price into a huge commercial job I did with a friend last year.
What's the average cost for materials?
Really depends on what you use. For me the cost of materials was about $300
Tim looks different.
I hope that dance off was worth the time spent masking it.
It was much harder to kill off my clone and hide the body than I thought it was going to be.
What are the overall dimensions for this project?
Hey! overall height was 36”. Depth was 28” and the base was 6” high. The entire build was 60” wide. I essentially wanted the surface of the dresser to be at “pub height”.
@@CowDogCraftWorks What do you suggest as an alternative to using a domino?? My boyfriend and I are wanting to build some furniture for our apartments and I am in love with this dresser!! We can't afford some of these tools so we are trying to figure out what we can use instead!
A pocket hole jig with strategically placed pocket holes would work wonders. Also a biscuit joiner. I mitered the corners and that wasn’t necessary either... but joints would work fine. If you’re going to paint it you could do butt joints and counter bore a screw, basically inset a screw and then plug it over the top with a dowel. It’ll be plenty rigid. Reinforce everything with glue in your joints.
@@CowDogCraftWorks Where can I find the plans for this build?
How much was the total project?
Oh gosh I can’t remember. Sheet of plywood from the cabinet supply place was about 35 bucks... drawer slides were 15 a pop... the white oak was probably the most expensive... I want to say that was about $200. I think all out it was about $400 to $500... but also I’m trash at math. So there’s that.
@@CowDogCraftWorks do you think its possible to make a good looking dresser for about 100 to 150 dollars?
I’m sure it’s possible. However, I’ve found that using more inexpensive materials for the most part equals an exponential amount of work to prep and bring those materials to a level of quality to be usable. I end up doing a lot of cost benefit analysis on my own labor with things. Anyway: one of the easiest ways to drop cost on this project would be to use standard bottom mount roller drawer slides which are very cheap. And to perhaps replace the fronts with pine or plywood. It won’t look as pretty. JT that would drop the most expensive parts.
How much would it cost to pay someone to build this for me?
To pay someone else? Haven’t the slightest idea. I don’t really do commission work but I probably wouldn’t charge any less than $2000. And I frankly feel that’s a bit... generous.
You can go to woodprix if you would like to make it yourself guys.
I’ve heard woodprix is the latest ted’s woodworking scam. So I highly encourage folks to NOT waste their time and money on stolen plans.
@@CowDogCraftWorks do you have available plans for this build?
