In this episode I'm building a Mid Century Modern Dresser. This is the most thought that I've ever put into a woodworking project. Probably because it is the first set of woodworking plans that I have ever produced, so I wanted to make sure that every little detail was considered before settling on a final design. In the end, I am very proud of the piece, and equally thrilled with how many woodworking concepts and techniques we were able to cover with this build.

Love the dresser and the channel in general! I also love this addition of plans/courses and your focus on teaching general skills in the plans.
I'm thinking about making this piece but was wondering how long you think it would take someone to make it? I'm sure the real answer is "it depends", but I'd appreciate if you could give a range or ballpark estimate.
If it matters, I have a small space, most of the right tools but entry level (e.g. a small countertop table saw), and most importantly, I'd be a solid "beginner" to "advanced beginner" at best.
Also: could I start with pre-milled lumber? I don't have a jointer or planer.
Hey Andrew...you're absolutely right about the real answer being "it depends" I would say the range would be 25 hours to 100 hours. That being an expert craftsman who is simply duplicating this build, to somebody more like you that will probably watch the videos multiple times, be learning new concepts along the way, and just generally taking a bit longer on each step.
As for pre-milled....yes you can. Or even plywood for all, or certain parts.
Many different designs for each type of project are also included. For example, there are hundreds of designs ruclips.net/user/postUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu for outdoor buildings, from small sheds all the way up to a complete stable. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.
For me, the detail of the door and drawer fronts sitting back from the main case is brilliant! I would not have done that by choice but after seeing it , it adds a great dimensionality to the face of the piece. Great work and best of luck with the plans.
Ahh. Classic foureyes music choice, classic foureyes style. Fantastic. 😍
Glad you like it!
I once heard Denzel Washington say "Do what you have to do, so you can do what you want to do." I'll watch you guys make anything.
Denzel gives good advice. That’s why I hate the notion that you can either pursue your dream... or work a 9-5. You can do both. You’ll have no other time likely. But it can be done.
I feel like the shop layout is different every time :D
haha...it kind of is. We've been going through a transitional period for the past 3 months or so. It's pretty settled now :)
This is gorgeous! I am really into woodworking and working through pieces like this help me to be a better one. I actually just bought 100 board feet of walnut so maybe I'll have some leftover to make this!
Nice! That's enough to get this build done...most likely :)
@@Foureyes.Furniture I recently got into online wood shopping and so far Bell Forest has been amazingly fast so I'll probably order more!
Ich liebe diese Art von Möbeln :)

Awesome! Excited to see the rocking chair videos next! Do you know the board feet for that project? Trying to budget out the project and look at lumber.
Hey James, on the Rocking chair page we put "* Roughly 25-30 BF (specifics are covered in the plans)" - it's always hard to answer that questions succinctly, but we figure that is good enough for budgeting's sake.
But is it in metric.....
@@hughbeanland9684 All of the dimensional drawings are in Metric and Imperial. The "Rough Board Foot" estimation on the website is in...actually, what do other parts of the world use instead of BF? Seems like BF is antiquated beyond even the imperial system, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's universal
@@Foureyes.Furniture in the Netherlands prices are in cubic (?) meters (m3)
This style of dresser, detailed plans and instruction videos is EXACTLY what I've been looking for.
Congratulations guys! I'm SO happy you're able to realize this part of your dream! While I'm not the biggest fan of mid-century modern furniture, that just shows how much I enjoy your content. You've really inspired me to go down a similar path in the Arts & Crafts genre. Looking forward to future projects from both of you and will start building up my t-shirt collection.
Thanks so much! It's been a long time coming. But it feels good to finally be putting in the work, and now having people get to partake in it.
This felt like a sentimental walk down the four eyes videos of old. It felt really nice.
Thanks man...I figured the beginning and end would be a bit nostalgic for the day one-ers :)
Hey Chris. I've been watching your videos since the beginning, when you had two or three videos up. I gotta say this is hands down my favorite project from you. I'm super stoked to pick up these plans.
Hey Arthur...really appreciate that! Thank you for sticking with me for such a long time. Hope you dig the plans man :)
I am really excited about this. I have seen enough woodshop setup and pocket hole furniture builds on RUclips to last a lifetime. This is exactly the kind of content I want to see more of. Thank you!
Thank you sir...appreciate that :)
Your advertisement is probably the first I've don't skip. The way you laid it out was awesome. Keep up the awesome work.
Walnut, acoustic guitar, fun storytelling, and beautiful furniture. All things that had me hooked on your channel from the first time I watched a couple of years ago.
Hey man...thanks! Glad you've stuck with me through the years. Doing these plans now is going to mean a lot more of these really high quality builds :)
The way in which you include your adverts and sponsors is perfect. They elevate the video and don’t detract from the interesting yet soothing feel your videos have. Bloody good.
Thanks man...appreciate it :)
Great video Chris, you had me hooked from the intro! Congrats on the plans.
Thanks man....glad you liked it :)
The cabinet is absolutely stunning, it’s so beautiful. I wish my hubby was into woodwork, or at least I wasn’t terrified of tools, I would have a try myself. But alas, we have next to no tools. If we need furniture we have to pay for it, like nearly everyone else. But I do envy your wives who get to say “My husband made that” 👏👏👏👏👏👏
haha...thank you for the kind words. I can promise you though, my wife would tell you that the reality of the situation is very different. Perhaps if I were a hobbyist. That's probably the sweet spot :)
Man that's a lovely woodpecker set you got!
Awesome video and project as well, it's really something to come up with something new, and get to the point of organising everything, planning, etc.... and building it, to have the patience to get to the end of the project. Thanks a lot for sharing! This one was wholesome.
Thanks man...appreciate it. And definitely not taking anything I have for granted :)
Chris your work is always most precise and clean. Then your using natural grain material with no need of stains or synthetic laminates. The influence of your region is highly fab. Thank you for another great video.
“Wasn’t even a quarter… I’m sorry.” I don’t lol very often, but that made me snort. 😆
Best part about these is even though I do not have the shop or the tools to support a build like this, someday, when I do, I will be back to buy them and follow along. A timeless treasure to the community. Thanks guys.
That's awesome...we'll be here...hopefully with. more to offer by then too :)
Congrats on the new build plans guys! Super excited to try one out soon!
Thanks! We're excited for people to see them. Can't wait to hear the feedback. We think they are really good already, but definitely want to keep improving :)
Full transparency, I like that. Beautiful piece, I do love the leg design that you used for this piece; but then again, I am a difficult and complicated woman.
I'm digging the Lyle!
whatever path you're planning to Go Chris, I will follow that path and will keep on watching your vids, as always awesome work ;)
Thanks man...appreciate it :)
Chris, you were the first maker YT maker channel I found, that really resonated with my own personality and style of visual presentation. I’ve been following you and the boys for a while now, and I think it’s awesome you’re finally settling into the groove that you’ve been striving for, for a while. Your enthusiasm and excitement is pretty obvious on the podcast, and it definitely breeds motivation. Keep up the dope work dude.
Hey Dan...really appreciate that. I've wanted to do this for such a long time. And this was the main reason (not only) that Shaun and I started working together. Neither of us could seem to find the time on our own. So happy to finally have kicked it off. It took too long
All the hard work has paid off Chris. This channel continues to build on a platform of excellence. Please continue to do what you do - it's a huge inspiration!
Thanks man...appreciate it :)
New to channel and I'm new to wood working. I work out of a single car garage. I have a DeWalt table saw and a Lowes miter saw. I made my own cross cut sled too. I almost finished built in cabinets and box shelves for my very first project. You are inspiring.
Damn, this is some good woodworking.
Man I’m not a woodworker but I wish I was or at least had the money to buy the equipment to make this. I am in love with this design, so elegant!!
Would love to see a bedside table of the same design
I absolutely love this dresser. But even more than that, I appreciate the philosophy of these in-depth, educational plans & videos. I applaud you sirs.
The message at the end regarding the tendency or at least what I thought was an inevitable change in content in your channel was great. It's a relief because I truly enjoy your content as it is and it has always inspired me to create pieces or parts of my own build to be more stylish. You mind reader.
I think your builds look awesome. I can’t wait to get started. The two of you are truly inspiring.
Very happy with. Worked as well as i expected
Did you buy the template??? Plan?
Please tell how was your experience using it
Beautiful and excellently made. It's perfect.
I absolutely love this dresser. I NEED to build this.
This might just be my favorite piece to date.
Thank you...appreciate that :)
that glasses segment was pure class, so smooth I never even saw it coming.
is that a pun????
:) :)
Maybe you need glasses...
Agreed, this is one of the best executed RUclips endorsement placements I've seen. Warby PM must be proud
Simply, beautiful.
I really like how you guys include links in the comments and graphics of the tools as you're using them in the videos. Very smart.
Thanks :)
It's such a beautiful design (as usual) and a great example of design and aesthetic taste adding to the value of a project.
Chris, this was lovely. As someone who has never woodworked in their life, and has no real plans to, it's nice to know where I can go if I wanted to. The video was as beautiful as ever, and it was still a joy to watch.
Oh, and I think the Weltys
Absolutely love it. I was at a friends house recently installing a HEPA air filter and noticed the beautiful cherry wood bedroom furniture is a matching MCM set. I asked about it and it's a 1950's original. I had to move the tall dresser a little and it weighed a ton. No idea of the maker but I'm definitely going to find out. The design is fairly similar structurally to yours here. The drawer pulls extend access the full length of the drawers in all 3 pieces. I already told them I'd they ever decide to update their furniture I definitely want to chance to get it from them.
Thank you for all your clean content that I can use and thank you for introducing me to Warby Parker. My new eyes show up this Thursday.
Thank you very much! You are reviving a passion for nice and quality work!
I really appreciate what you did to match the grain across the drawer fronts. Great look!
Thank you! Cheers!
Your ad inserts are great.
Awesome dresser Chris! 😍👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks! 😍👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Great, just great..! Everything is nice: the design, the build, the humor, even the music. Thank you guys...
Glad you like it!
Beautiful work!
wow this is beautiful
Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing!!💜
Also I love Welty on your face. It goes really well with your skin.
Just a stunning piece of furniture!!
Thanks :)
Looks stellar! I recently finished a solid walnut sit/stand desk inspired by your bad Larry desk, and I must say it’s a very eye catching design. Thanks for the inspiration, and the knowledge!
Beautiful
Nice build Chris. Thank you for making these videos.
Stay safe, stay healthy. 👍🏻
Man y’all are the best! I’ve learned tons watching y’all.
Fantastic! Well done.
Such great advice for some just getting into building furniture!👊Thank you for your honesty!
Stunning.
Thank you!
The top left set of glasses fit well 🤓
Perfect as usual. Thanks for share.
Simply, so nice
Thanks for make the effort of creating videos with the explanations and tips, I'm not quite new wood worker but is always good to watch so dedicated wood workers there are always new things to learn, thanks guys!
I love the piece and, as always, these videos are sooooo relaxing to watch.
Thanks Erik
Thank you for the inspirational quality you guys put into your projects. The passion you guys put into that piece is very apparent. Thanks.
Thanks man...appreciate that :)
Beautiful. All of it...the project, the presentation, the idea and as you said, the destination. Rock on my friend.
Thanks Jeff...appreciate it :)
beautiful design, good video
Amazing!!! Keep going... thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!
Actually superb quality and class of content, including color grading. I'm a big fan of yours, moden designs, simple, without excessive visual complications, nice finish and all around great style.
Well done!
I love watching your vids. So relaxing on all senses. Your precision and articulation is inspiring. Big thanks!
Thanks Andy
I like the look of the Oliver frame cause it matches all your woodpecker tools
Thanks for sharing all these lovely videos. I'm only on the begin of my woodworking journey and your videos have been inspiring me a lot.
Looking forward to seeing your next projects.
Best of luck!
So good Chris
Stunning
Beautiful!
Gorgeous
Loving the new content. Thank you both for the constant evolution of your channels. Please keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!
Another beautiful piece of furniture.
Thank you
Outstanding, very beautiful
I'm really happy that you two have accomplished what you set out for with your plans. I am pretty certain I will be purchasing the plans for this dresser and building it. It is exactly my style!
Thanks man...appreciate it! When you do, let us know what you think of the product :)
Definitely Becton. They look great on you.
Thanks man!
Es pura belleza, gracias por compartir!
Beautifully done.
Just beautiful 😍
This is one nice piece!
Lovely!
I purchased these plans and have zero regrets! I hope you guys get an overwhelmingly positive response to this passion project! ...I also hope to see a dining chair and dining table added to the library in the future 🙂🤞. Congrats!
Thanks Adam...appreciate the business and the support. We hope so too. So far it's been mostly positive. We know they aren't for everybody. But for the people who are in the market for this type of info/plan...we think we've made a really good product :)
Nice, as usual. I really appreciate furnitures and videos you both do. Don’t forget there is no pressure ;).
Absolutely Beautiful.
Thanks Rebecca :)
I've been craving for a while a classic four eyes, not that I don't like the more experimental projects, but sometimes you just want another nothing new but pretty perfect furniture build video. This is so much more than what I was hopping for. I had already heard you mentioning this on mm podcast but I was pretty blown away. Damn, now I'm even considering buying the plans some time in the future. On other notes: The piece is incredible well proportioned, I loved it, video was also really good. Classic Four Eyes is, in a way, doing something better than expected when one least expects.
Hey man...thank you so much for the kind words. This video style was definitely an old style video. I like to mix it up and go back and forth. Makes it fun from an editing perspective. But really glad people are digging the look :)
You guys are seriously so awesome.
CONGRATS (and thank you) great job!
Thanks man...appreciate it :)
That turned out really great.
