I've been looking at this for my wife as she really likes it's features and after hearing your pros and cons she has decided this is at the top of her list. Good honest review sir.
I have the S / naked version, has a few little differences and a bit cheaper. I'm absolutely in love with it! When I get a bigger bike next year I may just keep her.
In the 80´s / 90´s we had the proper 125cc´s machines. I owned several and they go side by side with the "big" 600´s thumpers - those where the days. However this GSXR125 is a good choice for a young rider or frequent daily runs (home-work-home). As usual, a very good review.
Your videos made me pull the trigger on the gsxr125 ended up with a white 17 plate model and im loving every second of it had it almost a year now and I have to say what a great way to enter the world of motorbikes, thanks TMF
I’ve had this bike since late April this year, and I’ve got to say, I’ve not experienced the first two issues you pointed out, although I do have my own issues. Namely, sometimes it can be a bit stiff to shift up as the gear pedal sometimes seems to have more resistance than perhaps it should. This only happens every so often however. As well as that, an issue I have personally is that I can’t actually turn the bars to a full lock, since the end of the bar will hit my knee unless my foot is particularly far back on the peg. Even if that wasn’t the case, though, there’s still the issue of having no room for my hand if I go full lock, as even with the dimple there’s very little space. Despite these issues though, the bike is great. It’s sturdy and quick for what it is, and I’m glad it’s the one I chose to buy. I’m pretty light, but it’s also worth noting that I’ve managed to take it to an indicated 89 mph.
If they carry over the main design elements to the super sport 750/600 range I’d reckon they would be selling loads of them. Best looking Suzuki so far this year
Looking at buying this bike next year its a great looking bike, you pointed out the yoke being cheap looking which it was theyve sense changed it to a silver yoke and it looks so much better in my opinion
That review was of great help, thank you so much. Sold Suzuki! I’ll be on a 2nd hand blue one with the sports pack by the weekend. £3000 6,250 miles 1 mature owner dream come true. Oh and I couldn’t approve more of the way you ordered the pros for this bike. The black is growing on me, I rather like the white and red too. I’m buzzing, can’t wait, thanks again. PS New tires for an early Christmas present And a Tail tidy asap!
A really fair and interesting review TMF. I like the way you judge the bike on its own merits rather than constantly comparing it with the larger more powerful bikes we all like to ride. Interesting summary - if you carry on like this you’ll have the bike equivalent of Jay Leno’s garage!!
TheMissendenFlyer, Thanks for the detailed review (I love your reviews). I currently own a HD motorcycle and was thinking of getting the GSXR125 as a second bike to commute to work. It looks like a very economical, sporty commuter. It looks like it might be fun in the twisties as well.
GOOD AND FAIR REVIEW I CURRENTLY OWN THIS BIKE. Came up as a private video initially, glad you fixed that ! Good follow-up review, in the blue colour it's a great looking bike, wish they'd make one with the SV650 engine :-)
Great reviews TMF! I've just been doing that thing of looking up reviews of the bike I already bought lol. I bought the S version for commuting in Australia. For me (6'5") I was just too tall for the R version, and for commuting it seemed like overkill really. I still look like an ape on the S version, but it's comfortable, fun (it's the same bike without the fairing and raised bars), and insanely cheap. I get a realistic 3l/100km on my commute, which gives it a range of a bit over 300km, meaning I only have to fill up once per week, which is an underrated bonus on a commuter bike. I will say the S verion is f-ing ugly though. I'm currently looking into the possibility of swapping out that hideous alien headlight, which looks fine on the R version, but yeah, ugly stick time on the S, but mods are a taking a while for these bikes lol. The fastest roads on my commute are 60mph, so this bike is perfect really, and compared to my main bike (Tiger 800), it's just so much cheaper. The on the road price was $3800, which I believe is about 2070 british pounds.. so not really sure what's going on with the UK pricing, or if that's good/bad there? Only other negative I'd add in is that the exhaust system is a single unit to save weight, so you have no option but to go full system exhaust if you want to mod that, and it is very quiet as you say in another vid. I know full system are in style nowadays, but there may still be some people hoping to use a slip on to improve the sound whilst not removing the cat, so just good to know I guess. Definitely agree on the seat though - already added an aftermarket to mine lol
Thanks for posting. Love the looks and color scheme of the bike. I must agree with you in regards of the keyless start. Got it in my GS, and if I had to do it over, I would prefer using the key. Same with cars.
125’s have certainly come on a bit over the years. I bought a Yamaha TZR 125 in 1987, my first brand new bike, which if memory serves cost me £1300 pounds. Exhaust doesn't look great, the keyless feature is brilliant, think about it key scratches, fiddling ect. You're right about the tyres I'd want wider ones, do you think it should have a bubble shield put on?
Nice review, I personally dislike the ""skinny" look just like the Honda CBR imo. I'm currently looking at the Hyosung gt125R, any thoughts about that?
Something which has come up in conversation among my peers. We would love to have TMF T shirts but is it wise for men of our age to wear T shirts with "hey kids" emblazoned on them? Just a thought, may be misconstrued ! Comments please.....
The “hey kids” one is a one-off special to annoy the hey kids haters - most of the shirts in my T Spring shop don’t say that....so you can spare your embarrassment....
Commenting on some of the bad points you mention with my own experiences of owning a white 2018 model: 1) First and second gears on my GSXR I usually start revving to 3-4k and upshifting to 3rd which seems to me to be perfectly fine, the bike will easily do 15MPH-25MPH at that range. I've yet to ride a bigger bike so maybe I'm just not used to pure power in the low gears haha! 2) On my bike, the gearbox occassionally throws me into N from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st even when really going for it as you mentioned, very strange! 3) A lot of reviewers have said they've cheaped out on lots of parts, not sure, for me it's my first bike and I'm happy with how everything is as standard but maybe. A beautiful bike in my eyes but could certainly use some OEM parts to really help improve the look, such as the indicators for sure haha! 4) The Dunlop tyres are very good in wet weather in my experience, only once have I ever felt the back start to slide and that was on a roundabout with some grit/dirt laying down, easy enough to correct and haven't had any problems personally. 5) I'm 5'11 and the bike is very small when compared to bigger bikes and even the YZF-R125, one of the only downsides to the bike in my opinion. Even when fully tucked, you'd struggle to get yourself low enough unless you're a smaller rider, the extension to the windshield doesn't really help either. On your good points: 1) I have personally easily reached 72MPH at 9,000RPM, there's more in there but not willing to speed to try. Don't have a private track! ;) 2) I refuel every 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on how far I ride, the stated 122MPG isn't far off, personally my record is 117MPG from full tank to reserve! Definitely very economical, you're looking at weekly £7-8 in petrol at £1.19p/L here in the North West and about £13 for a full 11L fillup! 3) Keyless ignition is supposedly quite a bit more secure to theft but the bike has a glaring issue, if you leave the keyless in the standard "Up" position at 12 o'clock. Even if you're not within 1.5m, the bike can actually be started and there goes your bike. Something to remember for sure! I love the feature and it's something I want when I move up to a bigger bike! 4) The brakes work very well as you mentioned, even a single wavy disc although it looks like it won't do much for stopping power and people have scoffed at, is enough to stop you from 50-0 within a reasonable distance. 5) At 3499, the special discount price I bought the bike for, I believe it is definitely the best 125cc sports bike on the market. The YZF is an amazing machine from what I've seen but way too expensive. Even at full price, 4099 vs 5000 is quite a difference, enough to pay for my yearly insurance! Thank you for the review and love your channel TSF! Looking forward to more content!
Fantastic review of this bike. Fair and honest. I own one. A Blue GP Race colour edition My question is.. I now like the New Kawasaki ninja 125 and the New Yamaha YZF R125 All which where not available when I bought the Suzuki GSX R would you please do a comparison on them three bikes as this would reassure my purchase of the Suzuki Thanks in advance
I know this is an old video but i take it, it was brand new with 0 miles when you got it? Been breaking mine in steady as said in owners book and its boring the shit out of me, noticed your giving it some.. will i be ok to give mine a bit more hammer? Obviously you have been riding a long time whats your experiences with break in methods? Cheers
@@Peakwanderer just what the bike was telling me. Probably not as epic as the bike was claiming admittedly. Only getting about 50 on my MT09 so I do miss that.
Don't understand keyless ignitions - you still need the key on your person, right? Also, I was told (at an advanced defensive/evasive driving course) that all ABS is Bosch....no?
Thinking about picking this model up as my first bike, i m 38 and 189cm, will it be fine or would i look strange on it? if yes what other 125 would you recommend?
Nice looking bike, especially in blue. I miss my YS125 as it was great for commuting and dirt cheap to run. I would be tempted to go for the Ninja 400 though for a little more extra power. I sat on the bike at Excel in Jan and I thought it was lovely. Would be great if you could review the ninja at some point. 👍
Maybe - depends what age/licence class you’re on I guess - a new 30 year old rider may quickly wish to trade up, a new 18 year old rider may not have the choice....
Hey Mr Flyer! Nothing to do with this review, i was wondering where to post a question on things you may know about. I am looking at purchasing a motorcycle mover dolly and wanted to know if you have any experience of them.
Hello TMF. I have no reason to doubt what you say on your bike reviews. @6:51 you mentioned you'd be "quite tempted". Now this I do doubt. Knowing what bikes you own and what you use them for, I can't for the life of me think where a new 125cc would fit into the stable or cover a gap in function that your other bikes don't do. I am lost on your view that you need a 125cc pretend sports bike. Come to think of it, unless you need a 125cc for certain track classes, who does need such a bike?
Hi mate just wanted to know if I should have gotten a owners manual with my new one of these it's an s not the r model I'm in Australia thanks for anything you can tell me
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks also it won't go into neutral if it's running at an intersection but goes in fine if I stop and turn it off and on again is that normal like a safety so I don't get neutral by accident?sorry to bother U but bike shop closed for the weekend thanks again
Great shame it's not comfortable, I did long days on my 125 'cruiser' but eventually got bored with it's 8.5 hp. Maybe one day we will have the magic 15 ish hp on one to give it a year more subjective life or so, but I doubt it.
I do wonder if the people making up the licence restrictions realised 11kw on a manufacturers spec sheet is at the crank not the wheel, a 110kg bike with that at the wheel would be plenty for most people for the road (UK at least).
Mate please you've gotta help me, I'm about to get my A1 licence and I'm stuck between this, the yzf r125 and the ninja 125 and I don't know what to get
I wish you'd stop calling it a budget bike. £4k is a lot of money to the target audience of the bike. It's only a budget bike when you compare it to bigger bikes. You don't call a fiesta 1.0 a budget car, it's just less expensive than a mondeo 2.0. Cos its a different tool to do a different job
Payed £700 for ybr custom(black), yh it had been dropped but not badly speedo isnt true but use my phone. Originally i wanted a suzuki van van an swap front tyre for a fat one add panniers, lower exhaust but too expensive, standard ybr i could get for £1000-1500, for a bigger bike 650cc £1500 upwards.
In asian countries where this bike manufactured, the keyless is meant to prevent theft, most of regular key is very easy to break, and thieves here are not very sophisticated to steal this keyless bike.
lol i actully dont understand why UK as Massive number plates on both cars and motorcycle, maybe you can protest to have fewer characters on motorcycles. In Australia motorcycle are only like 5 characters long and soo its about 18(L)x10cm, and our cars standard number plate only have 6 characters lol.(if you have alot of money and lucky you can probably can find a single digit number plate xD)
I don't understand it ! Get a 250 street and trail and learn to ride . Then keep your trail bike and get something a bit more exciting unless you are completely in love with dirt bikes by this time . In which case get more serious about a CRF 450L or a KTM 350,500 OR EVEN 690 .
@@TheMissendenFlyer I forgot to say I wachtched only videos in german language (Germany, Swizerland and Austria), sorry. I do not know wy this was not a subject in german bike tests. In earlier times I had the Honda CBR 125 R. And the first two gears were there bad too. I think I have to try the GSX 125 by myself. In my opinion a perfect gearbox should be standard today. Nice weekend, Manfred, Germany.
I think it's a stupid choice for a new rider. As a new rider you will fall off. It's all part of learning. On a naked bike hardly any damage will be done.On a bike with a fairing it will mark very badly or crack. Then an expensive repair.I have a young friend who bought Honda's version of this bike.he dropped it on a slow corner and it cracked the fairing.
The only question I wanted answered is....is this made in Japan?....because india was putting out some trash Yamahas and Suzukis and Hondas that have horrible quality and looked like rip offs of the bigger bikes...😒...if it's made in Thailand or Japan..I'd go for it...if its India ik their build quality is horrible
@@TheMissendenFlyer than you sir for your quick reply...well if it's Japan it says on the engine cover I guess..and the fact that it's reached the western side of the world I highly doubt it's India...either Japan or Thailand ....thanks ones again love your review!
The problem is these bikes are just too expensive, learners are likely to trade up within a couple of years and would be better off buying a second hand 125. Of course if everyone takes this approach then the market will collapse and Suzuki et al will stop making 125s..
Id get a 125 brand new if i wanted to keep it as a fun little sporty bike for daily use because of the economy and for fun eides with twisties and such...
Pretty little puppy? that bike? does it not make you puke with all those mish mash lines and using hard cheap plastic for the fairings? :P where is my puke bag blrblrlblrlblrblrlbr :P Now I am gonna heal my eyes buy looking at oldschool 125-250-2504t-400 bikes and to think that those low end bikes looked cheap before when they look like proper racebikes compared to the new breed of low capacity "budget" bikes.
U've got a Panigale in the garage and is tempted by a Suzuki 125cc. Really? Isn't that like being married to a supermodel and fancying an afair with a goat?

On your good points:
1) I have personally easily reached 72MPH at 9,000RPM, there's more in there but not willing to speed to try. Don't have a private track! ;)
2) I refuel every 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on how far I ride, the stated 122MPG isn't far off, personally my record is 117MPG from full tank to reserve!
Thanks for all the real world feedback AleraKira - appreciate you taking the time to write that lot down....all the best - TMF
The best thing about this bike is that it's light enough to lift up some stairs if you live in a flat.
Crikey - Wouldn’t fancy that!
You didn't mention the engine sound it produces -- Better than 95 percent of the bikes in this league.
Fantastic review of this bike.
Fair and honest.
I own one.
A Blue GP Race colour edition
My question is..
I now like the New Kawasaki ninja 125 and the New Yamaha YZF R125
All which where not available when I bought the Suzuki GSX R
would you please do a comparison on them three bikes as this would reassure my purchase of the Suzuki
Thanks in advance
Don’t buy Kawasaki it’s ass ! Looks good but bad top speed.
Yamaha my/yzf are too overpriced and not worth the extra cash
I know this is an old video but i take it, it was brand new with 0 miles when you got it? Been breaking mine in steady as said in owners book and its boring the shit out of me, noticed your giving it some.. will i be ok to give mine a bit more hammer? Obviously you have been riding a long time whats your experiences with break in methods? Cheers
Keyless ignition might help prevent theft.
I think not...insurance companies hate them!
TheMissendenFlyer don’t you need a fob to go with it? I’ve had to weld a couple of keyed scooter ignitions that where broken off.
Have you got a video of you riding it?
Yep - checkout my first ride review....
I averaged 144mpg on my 2017 YZF R125. I gave it the beans every day as well.
do you weigh 6 stone ?
@@Peakwanderer I weigh 11st. And I'm not lying. The average mpg reading in my bike over the 4 months I had it was 144...
astounding mpg, I've always seen 110 mpg as a best figure, is that figure from you calculating it when you fill up?
@@Peakwanderer just what the bike was telling me. Probably not as epic as the bike was claiming admittedly. Only getting about 50 on my MT09 so I do miss that.
Dear Mr. Your speech very impressive )
Thank you!
Such a nice bike...70 mph ..125 motor. It must be the gearing ....groms only do 55 tops. I'd prefer the Suzuki any day.
Randy's Rides my Grom would do 65 mph easy and would pull away from the lights quicker than most 125’s also the Grom costs a fraction of one of these
65, huh ? That's pretty good. Yes, I was thinking that $ thing too..the grom's are pretty reasonably priced. Just a bit small for my taste.
Yeah Groms aren’t great for taller people but on that point I can’t think of any tall people 125’s
I had 74 on mine going downhill
QuietDaz yeah think I touched 75 on a long steep downhill, a 200-250cc Grom would be amazing
Don't understand keyless ignitions - you still need the key on your person, right? Also, I was told (at an advanced defensive/evasive driving course) that all ABS is Bosch....no?
Well you need the key fob on your person yes, and I don’t think all ABS is Bosch (and some is more advanced than others)....
Great Review 👍🏻
Thanks
Hello Mr Flyer. Can you please advise on what tires would you recommend to swap these with?
I’m not sure I’m in a position to advise....
@@TheMissendenFlyer no worries. Will search through the internet. Appreciate your reply
Thinking about picking this model up as my first bike, i m 38 and 189cm, will it be fine or would i look strange on it? if yes what other 125 would you recommend?
This one is a corker!
Kawasakis are quite difficult for me to come by alas - but will see what I can do...
Very helpful 👌
It s a good looking and stylish bike for a learner but a very limited market these days and don`t you think they will soon grow out of it?
Maybe - depends what age/licence class you’re on I guess - a new 30 year old rider may quickly wish to trade up, a new 18 year old rider may not have the choice....
Agreed. Anyone in their right mind learning to ride or drive doesn't buy a new car/bike. Unless money is no object.
Hey Mr Flyer! Nothing to do with this review, i was wondering where to post a question on things you may know about. I am looking at purchasing a motorcycle mover dolly and wanted to know if you have any experience of them.
No I haven’t used one....
I know this is a old video but how did you find the keyless ignition, this is the only factor taking me away from getting this bike.
It’s fine - unnecessary but works fine!
Hope you get to review Suzuki cruisers?
Yes I must ask them about that!
Factory stock exhaust look sucks big time , i usually change the exhaust muffler on my first mod , i am fan of Suzuki 😅
Can any help how to use the answer back function? Thanks
can i ask .... how can miss second gear not mad just wanna know
you should do the MT-125!
Would love too!
I just love small light bikes that you can thrash the pants off without doing silly speeds...
I guess the comment about the first two gears has to be more about just 15 hp getting over 200 kgs moving rather than anything to do with the gearing.
Yes you’re possibly right....
Lord above just look at the size of the bit of plastic 6:30 holding the number plate.ahah nearly dragging along the ground!
Yes, tail tidy needed me thinks....
Cant u do review on mt125 abs m8
Hi mate just wanted to know if I should have gotten a owners manual with my new one of these it's an s not the r model I'm in Australia thanks for anything you can tell me
Yes!
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks also it won't go into neutral if it's running at an intersection but goes in fine if I stop and turn it off and on again is that normal like a safety so I don't get neutral by accident?sorry to bother U but bike shop closed for the weekend thanks again
No that doesn't sound right either - usually easiest to go into neutral just before you stop at a junction....
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks for your help mate really appreciate it cheers, paul
Great shame it's not comfortable, I did long days on my 125 'cruiser' but eventually got bored with it's 8.5 hp. Maybe one day we will have the magic 15 ish hp on one to give it a year more subjective life or so, but I doubt it.
I do wonder if the people making up the licence restrictions realised 11kw on a manufacturers spec sheet is at the crank not the wheel, a 110kg bike with that at the wheel would be plenty for most people for the road (UK at least).
Mate please you've gotta help me, I'm about to get my A1 licence and I'm stuck between this, the yzf r125 and the ninja 125 and I don't know what to get
They are all great bikes - get the one you like the look of the most….
Ok I think I'll go with the gsxr then thanks
Hey i am 2 meter tall (6,6) but can i fit on the bike u think?
Yes - but cramped…
I’d rather have a 2nd have YZFr125 at £1600 than pay £4000 for a brand nee Suzuki bike with keyless entry which is what i don’t like
It is a budget sportsbike, sportbikes are expensive that's just how it is
Would this bike he good for someone who is 183cm/6ft?
Might be a bit of a squeeze....
Cool vid matey, Mmmmm still too expensive for a L bike at just over 4K!
Looks better than the Butterface 1000.
I wonder if the keyless start is to help against bike theft?
I’m not it helps though (according to insurance companies keyless is a higher risk!)...
Well there we go! learn something new every day. Personally, never had an issue with a key!
me neither!
In asian countries where this bike manufactured, the keyless is meant to prevent theft, most of regular key is very easy to break, and thieves here are not very sophisticated to steal this keyless bike.

In our country 125/150s puppies are best sellers 😅
I've been browsing everywhere to know the tire sizes of the bike :(
I have one in my garage so I can tell :
Front : Dunlop D102FA 90 / 80 -17
Rear : Dunlop D102A 130 / 70 - 17
lol i actully dont understand why UK as Massive number plates on both cars and motorcycle, maybe you can protest to have fewer characters on motorcycles. In Australia motorcycle are only like 5 characters long and soo its about 18(L)x10cm, and our cars standard number plate only have 6 characters lol.(if you have alot of money and lucky you can probably can find a single digit number plate xD)
100mpg that is an astronomical figure
I don't understand it ! Get a 250 street and trail and learn to ride . Then keep your trail bike and get something a bit more exciting unless you are completely in love with dirt bikes by this time . In which case get more serious about a CRF 450L or a KTM 350,500 OR EVEN 690 .
Thanks for the advice Tim!
except you would have to pass your test BEFORE you learned to ride in UK.
@@TheMissendenFlyer or get a DRZ400
Im 6 6 now or 200 cm. I am considering getting one but i dont think ill FIT
You are the first rider (Video) who complains about the first two gears.
I'm sure I'm not the first ever.....
Sweep those leaves up! ;-)
I had! ....you should see it now...
I don't know where this particular bike is made - but build quality seemed fine to me!
@@TheMissendenFlyer than you sir for your quick reply...well if it's Japan it says on the engine cover I guess..and the fact that it's reached the western side of the world I highly doubt it's India...either Japan or Thailand ....thanks ones again love your review!
Depend on cc, for south east Asia we got 150cc and its made in indonesia. We dont have 125cc variant
That rear mudguard looks awful though...
They always do. A more restrained aftermarket tail tidy would definitely be in order.
This is a 125cc machine not a proper high-end sports bike.. So we don't expect a really good and smooth gearbox from this bike..
Wait ..your British ....and your using miles , gallon and pounds .... What happened to the metric system
We use a bizarre mix of metric and imperial in the U.K. - feet and inches are alive and kicking!
Nope - I think you’re missing the point - small bikes you can ride to their limit are great fun..
Lol what a dumb statement. It shows how fanatic you are with your toys. No matter the size of its CC
