I’d cry like a little girl if I lost one of my rigs, watched your vid I’m using your knot to secure it. Boy prices have really gone up since your vid to now, but still better than loosing one. Thanx for the info
I've done some of this. I suggest tie a small loop knot piece on the rod itself, for the carbiner to attach to. This way it should also be fast to detach when you want during fish-on events.
I use one as a paddle leash on my kayak, one end tied to the paddle, the other to a carabiner. Also as a tow rope to pull kids on kayaks, float tubes, etc. Can be used as a tie off if you beach your kayak to make sure it doesn't drift away, and to attach an anchor to a cleat.
I made something like this a few years ago but more elaborate. Can actually hook it up to trees and stuff within 30 feet of the water. Saved me from having a few lost rods.
I use two strong zip ties to attach a key ring to the rod itself just ahead of the front grip. That's where I hook the leash carabiner. It can quickly be detached to fight a fish and doesn't interfere with reeling.
Hi JC, Glad you like the rod leash. I tie a loop in some cord and then tie the loop to my rod in a place where it won't interfere with the reel. The loop is a separate piece of cord, not on the rod leash. The loop stays on the rod and I hook the carabiner into the loop. Thanks, Mickey
I've been using something like this for years man. And I will say they do help a 33 " red took off with mine last summer and and if I did not have my leader on my rod I would have lost it.. It was on the 61st street pier. And I have been making them and selling them and fishing lures for a wile now.
I always have extra paracord and carabiners on the kayak. Like you said I can troll a bait bucket or even tow a buddy who doesn’t have a pedal kayak lol.
I used pvc pipe and Velcro tape at docks and piers, but that’s much more compact for travel. FYI that’s a half hitch and not a square knot on the tag end. Never can go wrong with rope and clips with ya. Keep it up 👍👍
Thanks for commenting. I'll have to look into the specifics on knots a little more. One of the video recording I did I think I called it a granny knot, but didn't use that particular clip. Thanks for watching.
Ever been on a bass boat that has a 200HP or larger motor? My friend has to wear a motorcycle helmet to keep his head and eyes from getting blown off. Those cords would be perfect for your tackle bag or box from getting blown off into the lake. I will secure the cord around the rear swivel seat's pedestal and my tackle bag's straps or handles. There's nothing more worse than that sinking feeling, OMG... where did my fishing stuff go? 😭
On a kayak you could put 3 or 4 extra clips in between the 2 end clips to hook on the handles of your tackle box, bait bucket ect. Incase the kayak turns over you won't loose all your stuff.
A few weeks ago I was fishing at a one of my local spots and a gentleman used bungee cord he leaned the rod up against the rail and then wrapped a bunch of quarter around it around one of the posts so that he wouldn't lose his rod
Another way to attach this carabiner to rod, would be to make a loop of paracord on your rod to attach the carabiner too. Mabe using the joint where the real attaches to the rod as an anchor point.
If u can learn a cats claw u can learn a cinch with a slip knot...no carabiners to deal with...faster to remove ,adjustable to anything and cheaper ...
Sir my rod is uglistick gx2 medium 7 feet medum action moderate power. Can i use this rod for mahsheer, sneakhead fishing with spoon or frog or pencil lure?
Wish you hadn't posted this video☺. Caught a St.Croix fishing rod off the pier a couple of weeks ago that someone lost by not having it tied down. Hoping to snag another one just that I just saw went over last week. By the way I will return it to the owner of I see him fishing again.
shit some of us up here in PA , just tie them to our bottom boot lace then kick back and take a nap.. lol how ever we also tie our rod holders to our boats as well. loved the video never heard of cats paw. thank you
Dollar tree, two carabiners for a dollar, 25 foot of nylon cord for a dollar. 2 bucks plus tax, out the door. Buy 3 more pair of carabiners and make four of them five bucks plus tax. I use these as leashes all over my kayak, for rods, my bait bucket, even to tow my yak when I'm wading.
Think the end going to the rodnreel I wouldn't even tie a Dring to it and just tie/fasten a D-loop or even that Cat Loop knot. That way if you have your rod leash attached and a fish hits you won't have that Dring/clasp dangling in the reels way if you decide to leave it attached when fighting a fish in. Most cases your not going to dis-attach your rod leash right away when a fish hits and be fumbling with it during the fight to detach it with more chances of it getting caught in your reel. Make sense?? Lol. Then again if you attach the business end of the leash with a Dloop your also not going to have time when a fish hits to fight it in and try to undo the Dloop, still with chances of the Para Cord getting wrapped up in your reel. Guess it's a give or take type of deal, lol.
I've heard of several people losing rods on that pier. I know there are some very aggressive dolphins that hit live bait there and also Goliath grouper below. How big was the rod and reel?
I gave a thumbs down because you didnt even use your fishing pole in the full demonstration. You literally just wrapped a cord around the wood. C'mon man.
Excellent solution to a problem I have been pondering. Thanks. Let's go FISHING!!!
I’d cry like a little girl if I lost one of my rigs, watched your vid I’m using your knot to secure it. Boy prices have really gone up since your vid to now, but still better than loosing one. Thanx for the info
Thank you! This is exactly what I need! Teaching my son how to fish he accidentally cast his fishing rod right into the lake!
clip on stringers work really well. been using them for 25+ yrs already
I've done some of this. I suggest tie a small loop knot piece on the rod itself, for the carbiner to attach to. This way it should also be fast to detach when you want during fish-on events.
Easy to assemble and sturdy enough to hold my poles

Excellent idea. I have several. I use them in my boat as well as wade fishing and pulling gear up into my treestand
Thanks for sharing Matt. Yeah, I was thinking that there some applications for hunting too! Thanks for watching.
Good idea. I just lost a rod and reel a couple weeks ago in the river. I'm going to try a couple of these today. Thanks for sharing.
I use mine all the time. Thanks for watching.

“You’ll dangle right there kid until I remember to check on ya” 😆👍🏻!!!

Awesome ideas Mickey. Thanks for the loop idea. I'll have to make a slight modification to the design.
I have a tent stake and a length of trot line I use to secure my rod when shore fishing . Fits right in my tackle box .
amazing idea , thanks a ton for sharing 🎣😊👍👍👍

Ha ha...I saw someone towing a friend in a video once, was that you? Thanks for commenting.
Looks great. The yellow color is perfect for night fishing. Maybe add salt water resistant carabiners if you have to deal with rain and sea water.
I use carabiner, para cord, home Depot cable leash.
I used pvc pipe and Velcro tape at docks and piers, but that’s much more compact for travel. FYI that’s a half hitch and not a square knot on the tag end. Never can go wrong with rope and clips with ya. Keep it up 👍👍

made one works great use it on my boat great idea keep them coming JC
back in the good old days, we'd just tie the rod to the object with some string

Thats good idea. Thank you for it. Greatings from Turkey.
Waving from southern California 👍
Kayaking you could use it as a tow rope if you have to wade anywhere. You could use it to assist with standing up in the kayak.
Up in Canada when we ice fish we use the rope trick too tie the rod too your shelter so we don't lose it down the hole when the fish hits your bait
On a kayak you could put 3 or 4 extra clips in between the 2 end clips to hook on the handles of your tackle box, bait bucket ect. Incase the kayak turns over you won't loose all your stuff.
Thanks for watching and commenting Steve. Those are excellent ideas. When I get a kayak I'm sure I'll need to make something like you've suggested!

Sure
why not just use a bungee cord......we us them on piers and boat rails all the time...
There's a great idea. How do you use the bungees?
Just hook one end to your belt loop and the other to the bridge railing, and do some bungee jumping while you're waiting for a bite.
Yes go with small binge and bungee off to railing
To complicating, I'll go with your 💡idea.
Been using a bungee for a long time after I recovered a lost rod
Wrap it around your reel seat a few times, and attach the clips to fighting harness, easy

best knot ever a noose
sounds like a great way for wading, keep your bait bucket close
Excellent idea there Levi. I'll be using it for that when the red tide gets out of here and the fishing gets back to being good around the flats.
jc keep them videos coming brother tight lines great mind think a like
Thanks Raspy Olivers. I'm try to publish one no less than every three days.
Hey you just reinvented the wheel
shit some of us up here in
PA , just tie them to our bottom boot lace then kick back and take a nap.. lol how ever we also tie our rod holders to our boats as well. loved the video never heard of cats paw. thank you

Awesome tips RGI, thanks! I'll check into those items at the Dollar Tree.
Exactly how I secure my bait bucket at The Skyway.
Yeah, I'm going to be using this idea for other things too. I really like the bait bucket idea! Thanks for watching and commenting.
...... great advice dad.
Dad? Who is this?
A shark pulled in one of my rods plus the rod holder off my dock the other day.
yo im so glad i found this on youtube. now i can use this as a anchor.
Thats a good-looking knot !
shelter main beam... HA!!!! mechle Jackson your kid( classic) FLIP LINE ! WHITE WATER USE OR EVEN FLIP LINE ON LAKE FOR CANNOE OR SMAL RAFT>>>
Great tips on using the leash. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion about the loop. I'll have to make a modification to how I attach it. Great idea.
Oh, don't change your setup as long as it works for you! Just my 2 cents worth/thoughts.
Just take a piece of the paracord and tie the rod to the dock.
I went fishing in that spot because I live right next to there and got some nice snook and a giant gar would like to be able to send you some pictures
send them to radreelingfishing@gmail.com
Nice
Thanks for commenting Klae. I'll be making a slight modification to the design in response to some people suggestions in the comments.
I lot one in the SA river, around Rio Vista sa
I used to just tie mine on after l lost a couple of rigs.
Why,put your rod in a rid holder or leave your bail open ?
brawo
Attach it to stringer while wade fishing
cool
Thanks for commenting. It was a fun project and made a decent video!
It was a medium heavy rod more videos like all of them how bout a catch and cook crab thanks
Yeah, If I could find some that would be great. I think I'll have to go to the seafood market to make that video suggestion happen.
skyway pier ? dude ! i live in palmetto ! lets fish sometime !
Tackle box
Attach your oars if your in a kayak or canoe
Ha ha...oh yeah, those oars are vitally important. Good idea Kenny!
Are use a heavy fish stringers use a Heavy fish stringer
Just use a bungee cord
Lol thx JC
You are welcome Evie.
Seven and a half minutes to tie a string on a rod.
First
Are you sure you made the first comment?
Rad Reeling Fishing yessir
I lost my rod on the skyway bout 3 years ago

That’s a half hitch, not a square not :)
Oh, watched the video again. Is it an overhand knot too?
Could use it to if your bucket handle brakes
2nd jc
Ha ha...thanks for commenting Dan.
Kar'a'been'a
