Thank you. Getting to watch the time lapse back on this camp was enjoyable for me too, watching the landscape change! Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting out with the tent and camera as soon as this weather becomes a bit better. ATB, James.
Fair play for disabling the social media stuff if it was polluting your enjoyment. The camping is just the same as it was before you started your accounts, so I hope you decide to head out again and get some chill time.
Seems like an area that is highly clicked nowadays, I heard a lot of people talking about the magical Dartmoor... And of course, seeing the "Narnia" setting, got my attention too. This is amazing though, I would love to camp here!
Dartmoor is the Mecca of wild camping in England because it is the only place where wild camping is fully legal. It is a big and interesting area, with lots of history and dramatic weather to offer. Highly recommended! Thanks for watching 😊 James.
Beautiful colours, especially in the morning. Pretty much perfect conditions with snow and a sunrise and clear views. Well done on hitting 1k subs, that was a very slickly edited video, liked the snowball tent takedown as well! Merry Christmas and see you in 2023.
Thanks Kev. They were really pleasant conditions - quite different to the 1 hour of light morning snow that was predicted! Merry Christmas to you too. 2023 here we come 👊
Beautiful scenery. Love it in the snow. Only got back into hiking a few months ago (scouts & reserve forces many years ago). As yet to do my first overnight trip. Managed to get to the protest rally on 11th. Great turn out an hike to kings tour.
Thanks Andy. It sounds like it's only a matter of time until you're camping again! It was great to see so many people turn out for the rally and group walk. I ran out of time on the day and live over 70 miles away, so wanted to give it a mention in my video at least, to spread some awareness. Thanks for watching 👍 James.
Enjoyed the video. I’ve camped on West Mill a few times but my only Tor snow camp was Yes Tor a couple of years ago. I was out the night this filmed when I hired out Nuns Cross Farm for the night. The snow made a beautiful back drop. New Sub! Look forward to future videos. ATB. Al.
Thanks Al! I bet Yes Tor gave some dreamy views in the snow. It was really tempting on the day I shot this video. Hiring out Nun's Cross Farm is an interesting idea...that must have been pretty weird! I see you have a channel yourself and I've just subbed you back. I'm going straight for that Nun's Cross vid! Welcome to my channel, and I'll see you around 👍 James.
@@joinmeoutdoors Thanks for the sub, James. As you’ll find out the Nuns Cross Farm video is something a bit different for me due to my love of horror movies and film making. All the best. Al.

A good ending to a great years worth of stunning videos and experiences! Something always magical about the sun, clear blue skies and fresh snowfall, no matter where you might be out walking. Looking forward to seeing what you bring us in 2023!
Good evening James 👋. Your timing was perfect, I was wondering what to watch then your notification came up 😅. Everywhere apart from where I live seems to of had snow, tbh you are a lot higher up in this video than where I live haha. A great coincidence you found a beer to chill with 😄 😁. I've gotta try one of them puddings, everyone seems to like them, but I'm not much of a dessert sweet tooth kinda guy. Great time lapse and pics, it looked cool, the views in the morning looked awesome too 👌. Great snow bomb 💣, it definitely helped with getting rid of your tent hehe 😜. Great vid as always buddy, see you on your next adventure 🤙🤟. As it's your last video before Christmas, have a merry Christmas 🎄 and a happy new year fella 😊
Hi de Hi, Rich! I ended up not eating the pudding in the end actually. They're good for topping up the calories, but as this walk was only 5 or 6 miles, I'm not sure I'd earned the pudding 😂 Thanks a lot for watching, and I hope you have a great Christmas 😊 James.
Oh that's a good idea, will have to try that (will have to buy some hand warmers first!). That must mean that the dry bags have some breathability to them, which I haven't really tested before.
I can see how that would work. Something I'm very aware of is that I have a hell of a lot of battery-powered items with me on my camps these days, so being able to heat a water bottle using gas is a handy way of getting energy without yet another battery! 😅
Terrific video, but even better photos of the wild ponies. Superb shots. Do they tolerate human proximity? You seemed to have gotten pretty close! Good tip with the cas cannister in the sleeping bag. Have you ever done any wild camping trips up in Scotland? Enjoy your break. Regards.
Thank you very much. The ponies were irresistible! They were very relaxed and not on edge at all. They looked so at home against that snowy background 😊 I've never camped in Scotland, but would absolutely love to. Perhaps next year! Thanks, same to you. James.
Nice camp and I had no idea that it was legal to camp on Dartmoor so thanks for that info. Please, if you know, keep us updated on the outcome of the protest. Happy Christmas
Yes, unlike Scotland, where the right to roam is abundant, here in England we're confined to (a large chunk of) Dartmoor. There is an official map that identifies where you can and cannot camp, but the permitted area is big. I'll try to include an update on the court case in due course. Thanks for watching 👍 James.
Another great video thanks, it's such a shame that it's always a small minority that f it up for the one that take responsibility when we go out out camping. No matter the outcome of this court case I will continue to wild camp on dartmoor an if I'm found ( good luck ) il accept the consequences not like I'm gona get a 20 year sentence is it
Thanks Aaron, and I agree - it's often the few who spoil it for the many. Dartmoor is a big, open place. It's easy to disappear into it without seeing another soul for hours, and even days! I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy plenty more wild camping there 👍 James.
Taking away the right to camp on Dartmoor. I mean, how can anyone own vast areas of the countryside for themselves, then at will bar everyone else to even walk there. Makes me wonder why I pay taxes at all, if everything is privatized, nothing is public owned. If the only reason we pay taxes is to fund government bodies wages and wars, and nothing back in return. Just make me wonder. If Dartmoor is privatized, or bans wildcamping, we need to raise the roof and start taking back all public land and for the public to say what can and cannot be done on that land. Anyways, good luck and good camp there.
Dartmoor is an odd one in that around 57% of it is private land (reference: Wikipedia), compared to the 37% of it which is common land. That said, I don't see how someone could buy any of that private land without knowing and accepting that it is subject to the bylaws that permit wild camping. It's a bit like moving to Spain and then commanding everyone to stop speaking in Spanish!
@@joinmeoutdoors Well I see that it’s now happened (not really that surprised, if I’m honest) and the verdict has been officially announced this morning! Please could you tell me just which Tors that we’re now NOT allowed to wild camp on!? I’m sure it will all disappear for us given time now, as this will cause a domino effect!.. I’m sure it won’t be long before the Lake District and Scotland will follow suite also with banning wild camping and having the right to be FREE… Deeply saddening times!
It is indeed a sad day. Dartmoor National Park (DNP) are still reacting to the news, so I think we'll need to wait a few weeks for the dust to settle before we find out if all Dartmoor landowners wish to end this valuable activity across the whole of Dartmoor. I'd like to think it's only the Darwalls, but it'll take time to see what the true aftermath is. If only these people saw the value in spending quality time outdoors, and how many thousands of hours of enrichment are enjoyed by peaceful people on Dartmoor each year.
Phew. They're an absolute must-have once it gets to winter. I think I'd need a separate rucksack to carry a synthetic bag big enough to cope with these temps! 😂
That is light for a -10 bag! My Rab Ascent 900 weighs over 1.5 kg. It's rated with a "Limit" temperature of -18°C, but I tend to sleep quite cold, so it does the job for me.
