External SSD only required for 60FPS, which I would only use if I was planning on doing slo-mo or filming sports...you can film internally with ProRes Log using native app. But also, I think the main reason why you might want to use an external SSD is that if you are filming in Log you should be guaranteeing you are transferring the footage to your computer or ipad, because it's not meant to be shared without having been graded. So...I could transfer lot's of files using airplay or a cable, or I could unplug a drive and plug it in to the computer. Looks like this solves terrible tonemapping and sharpening but noise reduction still wipes all fine details. Temporal noise reduction in davinci resolve would produce much better results if they allowed recording noisy footage, even noisy footage can look better than this smeared mess at least in daylight but apple is being apple, they will probably allow it on iphone 18 pro max extreme ultra edition.
I have an Android phone now (though I'll probably switch to iPhone for log), and I know you can turn off NR using an app like Filmic Pro. Do you know if you can do that on iPhone as well? Perhaps even in the Blackmagic app?

I was really wandering when your video about Apple LOG will show up. :) Two years ago, I reviewed Honor Magic 3 Pro+, and I was amazed how good the LOG footage was: ruclips.net/video/JmlI9qjSupg/видео.html Since then, I was waiting for Apple to catch up and give us a proper LOG format, unsharpened and without tone mapping. Keep up the good work!
I think iPhone surpassed it, because they actually published their log profile, so its built into Davinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. It is pretty cool that the Honor Magic 3 Pro+ had a log profile, but if its not published, it seems kind of like DLog-M or D-Cinelike or a profile like that (which is a huge pet peeve of mine using DJI drones). I, personally, think the best thing about having a Log profile with published encoding and decoding functions is that you can mathematically get from Apple Log, SLog etc all into something like Davinci Wide Gamut or ACEScct, and then apply a uniform look over all the footage in the same color profile. Camera matching is one of the biggest features for using Apple Log I think. Basically, this is the first time a phone has enabled color managed workflows (that I know of). I am more surprised that Sony hasn't made SLog3 available for the Xperia...they literally already make cameras.
How did you like the Apple LOG footage?

@@NOlimitsON Yes that remains a possibility but you can't film in 4K 60 in H264, it's 30 FPS maximum.
I am only seeing Pro res 422 HQ as my highest codec but I see you have 4444. How do I access that?
With 1.1 update of the app Blackmagic removed ProRes 4444 option… in 1.0 version 4444 was available
😅😅maybe) at least it already looks a ton better than before
I have an Android phone now (though I'll probably switch to iPhone for log), and I know you can turn off NR using an app like Filmic Pro. Do you know if you can do that on iPhone as well? Perhaps even in the Blackmagic app?
How can I enable ProRes 4444 in the blackmagic camera app?
It’s not available anymore… they removed it after the first version of the firmware
hello, I cant download the luts, the web says "download limit exceeded" can you please upload them in other page?
Download them separately (one by one). Or try another browser
what storage variant are you guys using?
Internal 512gb or external 2tb Samsung t7
Hi, thanks for this great video! Very helpful. Is it possible to get the LUT files without downloading the sample videos? Free accounts on Yandex are limited to 5Gb and your folder is exceeding that limit. I can't find a way to download only the LUT files. Thanks for your help
sure, you can download a file individually - just pick it up with a right click of your mouse and download it
@@NOlimitsON I finally managed to download the LUT file on the Apple Developper website. Thanks
@@NOlimitsON Unfortunately that's not the case. As soon as folder is opened, you can see a message that the limit of downloads was reached and it's not possible to download any file. Yandex wants me to create a personal account as far as I can understand. Could you please place the files on google drive for example. Thanks
great review!!! oh god!!
Glad you liked it!
Here is my test grade for the sample footage at 1:40. I cropped and darkened the laptop screen to improve the composition: ruclips.net/video/4pajqQTecqA/видео.html
Can I use dehancer with Davinci resolve on iPad
I think you'd better ask Dehancer support team... I guess yes, but I'm not sure
@@NOlimitsON thank you! If someone doesn’t want to color grade on just iPhone itself maybe LumaFusion also do you have any videos. for both platforms how to edit Apple log on them and do you feel they can still make image look more cinematic
Just wow
Thanks!!!
Welcome)
Is there any app for photos?
Sure, a lot)) Lightroom, Snapseed, Dehancer iOS
Hello i hope somebody can help me, i allready call for apple support and they did NOT give me a solution, my problem is when i plug in my SSD external hard drive in ProRes and following all the instructions and tutorials in you tube, when i try to reproduce my video on PC it shows the CODEC ERROR you can hear the audio, but the screen is black.
if some can help me with a solution i will be appreciate a lot.
IPHONE 15 pro max
this phone is insane! 🔥iPhone 15 Pro Max probably the best and the most powerful smartphone this year!
Apple always did a very good job. that pushed me and my friends switching from Android to iOS
When I record in 4K 60 Pro res onto my dongle SSD card, the video is choppy. After I download it to my phone, why is that?
I think there is not enough bandwidth (the SSD might be too slow for this amount of data)
It’s your cable, make sure you use the proper cable for the ssd. Has to be a high speed quality cable.
log cant be use with 120fps slo mo right ?
No… only in main video mode at up to 4K 60p (or 1080p 60p). The same in Blackmagic Cam - only up to 4K 60p (or 1080p 60p)
Can I shoot 4k 60 fps prores HQ with a v30 card?
Not sure… I only tried it with v60 sd
Most interesting info. Thank you. May I ask when filming with BM Camera App Log footage is it possible to select 25p and 50p recording internally and to external recorder? I'm in (Australia) PAL region👍
Yes, sure, you can shoot in 25p and 50p with Blackmagic cam
why tho? are you producing content or Television?
@@_konvolut_ Even if he's not producing content or television, 25 and 50p is very usefull to avoid flickering lights.
nice !
Thanks!
Can someone explain to me how to export with LUT on? I recorded a video with a LUT on to change the color. Then I view the video in Photos or Blackcloud magic app and it’s the washed out LOG version no LUT color…😂why is this?
There is no way to export with a LUT straight out if the Blackmagic cam app. You need to use a separate app to add a LUT
What app would you recommend? Thanks!
Apple ❤ i am really happy with my 15 pro max 1 Tb 👍
Just to be clear it's 422 you can't record 444 on the iPhone.
You could with the first version of Blackmagic cam. After the update they removed ProRes 4444 (you can google it if you don’t believe)
Georgia ❤
Wow ❤❤❤
You know what's the worst thing about all this?! This is just software solution that can be made available back to iPhone 7.
I doubt it 🙈
@@NOlimitsON My samsung S20 fe can record 4k 30p Raw video with motioncam pro. That phone is not faster than iPhone 7. I think at least iPhone 11 can have h265 Apple log without a problem.
My $250 Poco M2 Pro had 48MP camera that supported LOG recording at 4k30fps. Doesn’t mean the quality is comparable to iPhone 15 Pros.
No company would do this ha.
H265 and Apple LOG is a great small file combination. If shooting to an SD card or SSD drive, why not shoot in ProRez Apple Log? Thanks for this great tutorial! 👍🏻
Guess those sanctions are not working…😂
Well)) You guessed it right) But it's a lot more expensive in here
I was really wandering when your video about Apple LOG will show up. :)
Two years ago, I reviewed Honor Magic 3 Pro+, and I was amazed how good the LOG footage was: ruclips.net/video/JmlI9qjSupg/видео.html
Since then, I was waiting for Apple to catch up and give us a proper LOG format, unsharpened and without tone mapping.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Dan! Great to see you in the comments!
I am more surprised that Sony hasn't made SLog3 available for the Xperia...they literally already make cameras.
this oversharpening shit on all phone cameras except of sony is just disgusting
Blackmagic Camera App - ProRes 4444 is gone
Yes, unfortunately
This sounds like a robot 🤖
Bro, I’m Russian, that’s my best English, so don’t be mad at me 😉
Просто интересно, что творится на английском канале
Тут когда как)) иногда лучше заходят видео, чем на русском, а иногда наоборот)
Тут уже зависит от RUclips 👌
